G N’ R: Substitute Rock Reunion?

2/21/07, 6:06 pm EST

Hating life because the Van Halen dudes aren’t touring after all? Don’t slit your wrists just yet. You might have another nostalgic hair-metal reunion to lose your shit over (in a good way). According to reports, we may just have a Guns N’Roses confab to look forward to. Word is that original GN’R drummer Steven Adler had a long conversation with Axl recently and suggested getting the old crew back together. Axl didn’t explicitly agree — according to Adler, he merely giggled and grinned — but he also didn’t fly into a possessed rage. Adler also claims to have been in talks with Slash, Duff and Izzy, all of whom are allegedly ready to bury the guillotine — er, hatchet with Rose.

“We resolved a lot of sh-t,” Adler revealed. “I said, ‘You know the five of us have to get back together! That’s when it will really take off again! Nothing will be bigger.”

We know what Adler stands to gain from the reunion, but what about the guys who proclaimed Axl was their sworn enemy and filed the paperwork to prove it? Perhaps things with their current fearsome leader Scott Weiland aren’t all wine and roses after all? Better the devil you know folks…better the devil you know.

I want it to happen… But unlikely. :/

Joe | 2/21/2007, 6:34 pm EST

I would wait another 10 years for this one

Jeff | 2/21/2007, 6:35 pm EST

Um, no, Adler’s just insane and has no life. This won’t happen for at least another 4 years (Rock Hall eligability…)

Where is my Chinese Democracy news?

You guys didn’t even report that a studio quality version of ‘Better’ leaked yesterday. Shame on you.

rockandrollgirl | 2/21/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I don’t believe it either…

Jeff | 2/21/2007, 6:50 pm EST

For the record, I like Adler and I like new Guns…but this story is over a week old and its wishful thinking on Steve’s part for the time being.

C’mon RS, I need my album update…do some old fashioned detective work please and thank you!

ishy wit it | 2/21/2007, 7:09 pm EST

This reunion will never happen…who couldn’t help but humor Adler, who’s made little money off the G’N'R legacy and looks only slightly better today that CC Deville.

However! There is a new Guns song posted at:
http://hypem.com/list/200 8

Bewares…it is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard (coming from a fan, too…)

Evergreen_Layne | 2/21/2007, 7:46 pm EST

Let’s get some Chinese Dem updates! Has the album been turned into the label yet? Call their new manager. Do you even know who it is? It ain’t Merck no more that’s for sure.

TheDave | 2/21/2007, 8:32 pm EST

Chi-Dem yea or nea Mar.06 Someone puleeze tell us….

alfredo | 2/21/2007, 8:45 pm EST

just wanted to point out that neither band is hair-metal as it says on this article.

Yohoo ! | 2/22/2007, 2:08 am EST

Ok ok ok, so Adler talk to Rose about
getting back and bury the hachet. Huhummmm i dont know man,its a desperate move to make money again huh? what do you think ?

Sanchez | 2/22/2007, 8:11 am EST

Sweet news, not for GNR but for STP. Get that Army of Anyone away from each other…What a mess that is. The Deleo Brothers need to get on the phone with Weiland.

lik roper is a perv | 2/22/2007, 8:45 am EST

Yes, the original GnR is the shizz and would be awesome to see again, but, consider the source of this speculation: Steven Adler. He is a broken junkie trainwreck.

Oddjob | 2/22/2007, 9:23 am EST

Last I heard Steve Adler was a washed-up druggie, which was the reason they kicked his ass out in the first place?

Oddjob | 2/22/2007, 9:26 am EST

Good point below, neither band is hair metal. What, just cuz they play hard rock and have long hair?

Why is RS totally not even mentioning the fast-approaching March 6?

!uriegirl! | 2/22/2007, 10:21 am EST

very very unlikely.

theworldsforgottenboy | 2/22/2007, 11:16 am EST

The fact that this has garnered so few comments shows how much interest there actually is…. besides Axl looks like a feminine version of James Hetfield now..

Forget Chinese Democracy.. call the album ” Lose Your Delusion “

Bilo | 2/22/2007, 1:12 pm EST

i heard they are reforming without Axl and Steve Adler will be on vocals and Matt Sorum on drums

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 1:17 pm EST

Matt Sorum is a MUCH better player than Adler ever thought about being. I’ll take the “Illusion” line-up (with Izzy, of course), but nothing else. I fully expect the next Velvet Revolver record to piss all over this “Chinese Democracy” crap.

bodi | 2/22/2007, 1:18 pm EST

Nope, just a rumor. Like a week old. Adler and Axl hung out but that’s it. No reunion. BY THE WAY, THE RECORDING IS COMPLETE AND THE CD IS OFF TO THE LABEL FOR MIXING. check out official site: gunsnroses.com

Lobsters | 2/22/2007, 1:30 pm EST

Matt Sorum is certainly a great drummer but Steven Adler is no slouch. His drumming on “Appetite For Destruction” is one of about three hundred and eighty seven million things that make that album as great as it is. Adler may not be Jon Bonham but he sure beats Lars Ulrich, Bill Berry, Larry The Male Model In U2, The Courageous One Armed Dude In Def Leppard, etc.
But not Chris Mars.

evan | 2/22/2007, 1:35 pm EST

Lets not celebrate this. Its just more rock n roll dinosaurs unable to cope with the fact that time has moved on and their music, while it will be long remembered and enjoyed, is a thing of the past. Theres only a few reunion tours I can stomach and GnR aint one of em.

Joe | 2/22/2007, 1:36 pm EST

Actually,

It looks like both Rolling Stone and various other news sources are messing up the Van Halen reunion rumors. Rolling Stone needs to check the most reliable sources of all things Van Halen the Van Halen news desk. http://www.vhnd.net More than likely all they are going to do is move the dates back a bit so that the tour announcement can coincide with their hall of fame induction. I swear these news sources are creating panic and chaos where there doesn’t need to be. Check the van halen news desk rolling stone and also wait for an official statement from the band before you choose to wreak havoc on this story.

Dan | 2/22/2007, 1:41 pm EST

Adler is better than Lars Ulrich? You better check the milk because prejudice alone is not enough to cause someone to make a completely stupid statement like that. GnR was a garage band. And most people won’t want to hear it but Lars is a better drummer than John Bonham was too. I’m no Metallica fan but pick up some drumsticks and play their music, then tell me who’s better.

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 1:45 pm EST

Lobsters:
You have obviously never heard Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, or …and Justice for All.
I’ll admit, Adler had some groove, but that groove is NOT what made “Appetite…” so damn good.

Lobsters | 2/22/2007, 1:54 pm EST

I bet you guys don’t even know who Topper Headon is.

better drummers nirpumpkin | 2/22/2007, 1:55 pm EST

dave grholl and jimmy chambelin are the two best drummers ever fuck steven adler

Monkeesfan | 2/22/2007, 1:56 pm EST

rushfan? next thing you’ll tell me Neil had groove too….. idiot

Face | 2/22/2007, 1:56 pm EST

lobsters, bet you dont know who BA Barakus is

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 2:03 pm EST

Monkeesfan, your name says it all.

Lobsters | 2/22/2007, 2:04 pm EST

Let’s just agree to disagree. And ten years from now when I’m King you will all be in a detention camp.

Face | 2/22/2007, 2:04 pm EST

is that some double talking jive you’re throwing at me?

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 2:05 pm EST

If you want to talk about a drummer with a great feel, you should check out Phil Rudd from AC/DC (where is a lightning bolt key when you really need one?).
Or, if you are into something softer, check out Jeff Porcaro’s playing on “Rosanna” by Toto. NOBODY can groove like that.
…idiot…

Monkeesfan | 2/22/2007, 2:07 pm EST

predicktion – Wolfgang will be the next king of rock n roll

Bilo | 2/22/2007, 2:09 pm EST

i like Zakk Starsky

Bilo | 2/22/2007, 2:10 pm EST

but that doesnt mean you’re an idiot

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 2:13 pm EST

Prediction:
Monkeesfan will be the president of the Wolfgang Fan Club.
Steven Adler will be the vice-president.

Bill | 2/22/2007, 2:17 pm EST

I can’t believe anyone can sit there with a straight face and say Lars Ulrich is a good drummer. He is f*#&ing TERRIBLE!!!! I’d say he’s capable at best.

about g n r. who really cares?

BA Barakus | 2/22/2007, 2:17 pm EST

Rush are dog shit and i pitty da foo who disagree’s

Rushfan | 2/22/2007, 2:20 pm EST

rush are horse shit, i blow moose cock

Bilo | 2/22/2007, 2:21 pm EST

Gary Powell too, fuking brilliant drummer

coemgen | 2/22/2007, 2:23 pm EST

The only good thing that could come out of this is a STP reunion.

alfredo | 2/22/2007, 2:25 pm EST

Lobsters…does it make me cool if I say I do know who Topper Headon is??? Do I get to join the cool kids club with you?

Lobsters | 2/22/2007, 2:35 pm EST

Fuck yeah knowing who Topper Headon is makes you cool. But not as cool as actually being Topper Headon.

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 2:45 pm EST

Whoever posted as me…thanks…
I’ve been wanting to let everyone know how much I love moose cock.
…pretty childish…

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 2:49 pm EST

For those of you wanting a Chinese Democracy update…
According to bravewords.com (really good metal site out of Canada, ay), the album has been pulled from the schedule completely.

Jerry Nolan | 2/22/2007, 2:53 pm EST

I played good but now I’m dead.

Josh W. | 2/22/2007, 2:58 pm EST

The fact that anyone would actually admit that Lars Ulrich is a better drummer than John Bonaham is just blows my F-ing mind… Lars may be faster at some things but he is definitely not better than Bonzo. Think about how well rounded Jon was and then think about Lars the wino who drums fast and adds lots of bass to his toms in the studio and live to make him sound so big. Jon was and will always be the best rock drummer… So lets leave him out of the convo that includes much lesser drummers than he was… Thanks

Bob | 2/22/2007, 3:12 pm EST

Adler was a great drummer and perfect for G N’R. Still is.

Neil Peart rocks.

Lars was OK, but invented modern metal drumming.

Phil Rudd rules.

John Bonham kicks everyone’s ass from the grave.

RushFan | 2/22/2007, 3:16 pm EST

I never said Lars was better than Bonham…and I would NEVER say that. My whole point was that Steven Adler is not as good as Matt Sorum.

Hanibal | 2/22/2007, 3:18 pm EST

i love it when a plan comes together

Bilo | 2/22/2007, 3:22 pm EST

i agree with RushFan…. but not about Rush although Neil’s a great fuking drummer.

Michael | 2/22/2007, 3:28 pm EST

Axl rose is fucked. It doesn’t take this long to make a record. Period. I’m sorry, but the dude is a flake. He cancels tour dates constantly and he shows up late(3 hours) when he does play. On top of that he leaves the stage to do God only knows what every 5 fuckin minutes. I don’t think he even got through one song without leaving. He’s nutty as fuck. Chinese Democracy is doomed to fail because it will have to be the most amazing record of all time to even get a nanosecond of notoriety.

Beth | 2/22/2007, 3:29 pm EST

Pfft, I say this reunion tour goes turns out exactly like Van Halen’s did. They can all bite me.

john | 2/22/2007, 3:37 pm EST

Josh W…Lars might not be a better drummer than Bonham..but Metallica is definitely a better band than Led Zepplin….and lasted alot longer too

Weiland....... | 2/22/2007, 3:39 pm EST

Get my band STP back together and give the G-n-R goons back to Axl.

SW | 2/22/2007, 3:40 pm EST

get my band STP back together.

SATAN | 2/22/2007, 4:02 pm EST

john is a retard, zeppelin had more songs in a less amount of time, and guess what, they all don’t sound the same. metallica has 10 songs and a bunch of songs that sound the same. now bow to jimmy page and go to hell

lik roper | 2/22/2007, 4:54 pm EST

sounds like fun…

bodi | 2/22/2007, 5:05 pm EST

Slash and company need to stop carrying Weiland and kick him to the curb. Velvet Revolver is an improved STP but nowhere near the band Guns N’ Roses were. An STP reunion? I’m all for it if it brings a GNR reunion closer. Chinese Democracy will be legit by the way. Wait for the final product.

Rob C | 2/22/2007, 5:20 pm EST

When will Krokus tour? That’s what I wanna know

Mandela | 2/22/2007, 6:06 pm EST

Just when I thought buying tickets to see Axl couldn’t feel any less safe… tell you what, I’m not going to even consider it this time. It’s too late to win me back Axl, we’re through. My money is going into Sting’s, Copeland’s, and Summer’s pockets in New Orleans. Honestly the only thing that I want to really know about a long awaited album being released is whether the Police might actually record a new one. It’d certainly be more likely to be worth the wait. Sting hasn’t put a single album out in his entire solo career that I, an avid Police fan, but Sting solo hater can’t deny has at least one decent tune. I usually only contemplate how much better the album would’ve been if the Police had been there to restrain his ego. I give up on Chinese Democracy. Yeah I’ll buy it, and TWAT is an alright tune, but I’ll hold my breath for news of a Police release instead.

Mandela | 2/22/2007, 10:01 pm EST

Okay so you know who wants to sing in front of an awesome rock band this summer? David Lee Roth. You know who wants to rock the house behind an awesome frontman? Slash, Adler, Izzy, and Duff. New Band:ROCK. simple. I’d buy tickets.

miccc | 2/26/2007, 9:22 am EST

In reply to John: Led Zeppelin were arguably the greatest rock band that ever existed. They are without a doubt the greatest hard rock band. Nothing against Metallica, they are a very good hard rock band, but they are not in the same league as Led Zeppelin, nobody is.
