When will you figure out that all Fall Out Boy care about is manufacturing an image that teens like. There is not a single spec of sincerity in their music. It’s all just an aesthetic that people eat up because they think that this is the best that can be produced. America’s Hottest Band? No. Oh, by “hot” you REALLY mean “a band that stands for nothing but the hot air in their heads”. Okay. That makes sense then. I guess this can go for Panic at the disco too, but the hyperbole that Rollingstone spews out of its monstrous mouth for this average band discredits the magazine (even when it was really good).

Fall Out Boy is amazing. They deserve to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. They’ve worked hard, and haven’t forgotten the people who helped them get where they’re at. They’re awesome.

Panic got their cover first. Did RS feel bad for Fall Out Boy and decide to give them a cover too? This is two shite bands in less than 6 months. I agree that the Police would make a better cover, hell a better interview to be sure. I used to think RS would be better without the political stuff. All of a sudden Bobby Jr. and Matt Taibbi started making it more interesting, or at least entertaining (and scary). Now I dread their covers. I dread the bands that begin to hold sway over a once quality magazines material. The guitarist issue was almost a return to form (thank God for D. Fricke), why go and fuck it up now? Put the Police on, or do a Coachella/SXSW line up review, hell get Billy Corgan on the phone and talk to him about the Pumpkins reunion. Next thing you know Anna Nicole will be on the cover. C’mon guys. Jann, you’re better than this. There are so many more relevant bands out there, with a real talent, a real presence and a real relevancy. The TRL nation may be buying the few records getting sold, but your readers remember the days when you guys put real artists on the cover and gave a 4 page in-depth interview. Christ, you just interviewed Wentz for the one page Q and A. That wasnt enough???

How pretentious can one band be? “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race” sounds like it is supposed to mean something, but I don’t think it does. I’m not opposed to lyrics that don’t make sense–I like Beck and the Chili Peppers, but they also don’t put on the facade that their music is anything more than what it is.

And what really bothers me is when people think they know a band’s motives. Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’re not in the band and therefore don’t know what they’re setting out to do. Every band in this music industry is trying to create an aesthetic. It’s part of the job. To say there’s no sincerity in their muisc is ignorant. I love FOB, there lyrics are great, they changed my life. I hear my brother talk about Kurt Cobain, I this that Pete Wentz is like Kurt Kobain but for my generation. I heard a song called “Lithium” by Nirvana, but I could not relate to that, but “Dance Dance” that really spoke to be it was a very powerful song, such profound lyrics.
Its so great to have emo represented this year,people are always saying why dosent RS have Bob Dylan or My Morning Jacket ect. on the cover, that because they are not as good as Panic!, JT or FOB. Honestly, I dont really understand what people are getting so heated for. Does all this anger do anything for you? Rolling Stone features figures of popular music culture. Ummm…and it would seem that Fall Out Boy is pretty popular today, as emphasized by their recent record sales.

I understand if you do not like their music, if you dont think its great quality, if you think they are crap. Who cares? Everybody has different tastes in what they like to hear. What right does anybody have to hate on other people? I personally enjoy listening to Fall Out Boy. No, i’m not 14. I’m 23. And I have a VERY wide interest in music. I love bands like the Beatles, Pink Floyd, Led Zep…I also love Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, NIN. Yet, sometimes I enjoy listening to Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera and Justin Timberlake. I can appreciate all types of music. Fall Out Boy has interesting lyrics, they have good beats, the lead singer is very talented. The only thing that annoys me about the band is that Wentz gets too much attention while I feel Stump is the true talent of the group.

I mean, the end note is that people just need to chill. Let people enjoy Fall Out Boy. Its called respect.

i luv this band so much ive been going 2 every concert and buying EVERY cd i heart u my room is covered in fob!!

Honestly, for what they are, FOB are a good band. But in today’s internet-centred music industry, popular artists come and go with unhealthy rapidity. FOB and their counterparts Panic! likely will not last, not because they seriously blow (they don’t) but because everything is so polarized and volatile right now. It’s not their fault…you rabid fans- just don’t be too shocked when they go. it was inevitable, and no degree of hotness can stop that.

ok so im kinda a new fan–ive only been in love with fall out boy since december when i first heard “arms race” on mtv(loooove that song btw)–but i think most ppl will agree with me on this that joe and andy dont get enough credit. i mean yea, pete is hot and a great musician just like patrick(who has such a GREAT voice btw), but seriously! in all the pictures pete is always dead center in the front with his shirt off(not saying its a bad thing or anything lol. hot), then the rest of the band is dressed all nerdy(pat) and standing in the back. andy and joe are just as talented as pete and pat.

Okay, I love Fall Out Boy at least as much as, and probably more than, the rest of you, but do any of the other punk kids that heard of them well before they hit MTV feel a little robbed? I’m glad they’ve had a huge amount of sucess, but I don’t like sharing them (or Taking Back Sunday, or Yellowcard, or any of the other punk bands that used to be under the radar where their real fans are) with the mainstream MTV crowd. It’s like when your kid sister finds the cool coffeehouse with the cool kids that you’ve been hanging out with after school. All of a sudden, it’s just not as cool anymore. I just hope FOB stay true to their punk roots and don’t let their egos get too big.

i skimmed the thread, and i saw a plethora of sexual references, fob has no talent, fob kicks your ass, blah blah…
first off, if you only love them for the singles, shame on you.
second, not every fob fan is a fourteen year old girl after their bodies.
patrick stump is a very talented musician. you can hear this particularly on the new album, with so many different influences coming together. and his voice, no matter what they say about brendon urie being identical, is very distinguishable.
pete wentz has a billion other defenders, but:he’s only human and he writes great lyrics, if you actually bother to read them.
joe trohman is underrated, listen to his riffs of the month on friends or enemies or myspace. holy crap.
andy hurley is a killer drummer and very serious about music. with hardcore roots like his, do you honestly think he’d sell out to be in a pretty boy band?
i am a big fan of fob, not so much mtv…but i live in a small town with no radio stations so my options are pretty f-ing limited

To all the pubescent 14 year olds who are totally obsessed with Pete: Come on! On the real, with me being 15 years old, black, and a music nerd, Pete is really hot, but he’s a lot more than a cute face and great abs. He’s an amazing songwriter with a great ear for talent, so please try to see more than the bulge in his pants.
To all the FOB bashing kids: If you don’t like them, stop talking shit about them. No one’s making you listen to them, no one’s forcing them down your throat, so stop badmouthing them. Have you ever thought that you’re just a little jealous of all the attention they’re getting as opposed to the bands you like? FOB isn’t the greatest band in the world; even they’ll admit to that, but all your complaining about them will just get more FOB fans yelling at you. If you don’t like them, then just don’t listen to them and move on with your lives.
If you don’t like their music, you have to at least respect Pete’s skill with ‘verbal gymnastics’. He speaks from heart, and his lyrics are soul-bearing. Thank you Rolling Stone for putting Fall Out Boy on the cover (FINALLY!) they’re new album really lets all the “haters” know how much this band has truely brought to the poppunk scene.

But on the other hand, it’s sad that Andy never really gets to talk. He’s an intelligent man, I think we should give him more of a chance.

and Patrick? Yeah. He’s just such a genius and has one of the most amazing voices of modern day rock. I can’t get over the fact that he has such a low ocnfidence level though. It’s like… ahh. I just want to give him a hug.

I only recently rediscovered Fall Out Boy. I first heard them at the same time as most of the people from across the pond, when “Sugar, We’re Going Down” came out. I actually ended up liking most of their older music rather than the recent material. I didn’t know any of the members of the band, the term “Pete Wentz” was lost on me. Then came the “Sixteen Candles” video… It was only then that I realized a few things. A) The bassist was freaking hot. And B) I thought I was the only person who thought the above statement was true, seeing as how I live in England and rock music isn’t half as popular as Hip Hop or Drum ‘n’ Bass. I later learnt that I was wrong… Oh, so wrong, and that Mr. Wentz had a legion of fangirls. Cue me not listening to the band again for over a year. I went into a goth-metal phase, and Fall Out Boy, in my eyes, were sell outs. Then I got over that about a couple of months ago, when I started to listen to bands like Panic! at the Disco and My Chemical Romance. My friend eventually got me listening to Fall Out Boy again. And I admit, they’re good. And even though I’m not sure how the band would fully function without a healthy dose of Pete’s emo, they all have their individual characteristics that make the band such “International Superhits”, as coined by Green Day. And you know what? They deserve it…

Okay, first things first. Yes, Pete Wentz is an attractive person, but people seriously need to stop acting like they “Like OMFG LOVVVE!” Fall Out Boy just because of Pete. I’m not usually into stereotypes, but these “YaddyyaddyyahhEmoGurlx242’s” are just little posers. Please, to any of you that have said nothing but “Omg Pete is SOO HAWTT! I SO WANT TO FXXX YOU PETE!” I would really like you to name me at least 50 of Fall Out Boy’s songs. This band should be recognized for its talent over its looks. I myself am waaaaay more in love with the lyrics, and the actual music more than what the members look like. Take-This-To-Your-Grave: how can “u” say you have decent musical taste when you don’t even know how to spell? Pete Wentz is the most obnoxious “rock” star of this generation (along with Hinder, but that’s a whole other conversation..). All he cares about is having a hit single and getting a hot chick to drool on his “uber” hotness. And for the people who are saying they love FOB, Green Day, and RHCP, you are surely tone deaf. Green Day single-handedly (well, not neccesarily, Cobain’s death and the underground helped) brought back punk to the mainstream and allowed bands like Blink-182 (look where they ended up…), Good Charlotte, Simple Plan AND Fall Out Boy to wank MTV and have a hit single. Fall Out Boy played a couple of clubs in Chicago and BOOM big success. Green Day toured for 5-6 YEARS and lived in a basement with no stairs before they even got a taste of the big-time. FOB and Green Day aren’t even on the same planet, let alone worth mentioning in the same sentence. As for RHCP, they are in a different solar system…let’s put Joe and Patrick in a room for five minutes with John Frusciante, that will end up with some brains combusting on the floor… and while we’re at it, let’s put PETE in a room with FLEA…somebody help him before his brain implodes…My friend and I were in a record store one day messing around with a bass and she ended up playing the bass line for Dance Dance, and she hadn’t even heard the song…that’s how simple Pete’s bass lines are people…it takes a 14 year old kid in a record store 5 minutes of fucking around…she’s still trying to master ONE of Flea’s bass lines…I’m really sick of everybody bragging Fall Out Boy are “the future of rock.” If wanking off another band’s creation and creating bass lines an unaware 14 year old in a record store can play, I’m not sure I want to be around for the so-called “future…”

I have fallowed them since i came back to the states, since i was in England when they first came out, but i have all their CDs and their DVD and I can relate to their music and that’s y i listen to them. at first i thought that none of them were really good looking, but as i got older my taste in guys changed and yeah Pete is hot but not so hot that the only reason for a person to by their CD is for Pete. can’t you people see him for his work and not his body! it makes me sick just thinking that people buy the CDs just because they find a person from that group good looking and call themselves fans when they first heard of them from some teen magizine or something. You people all disgust me. How can you think musical talent comes from looking hot? I’m fuck ugly, but I can play guitar better than FoB’s guitarist. Hell, I can play any instrument better than any member of FoB, and all I play is guitar. Their music consists of playing piss easy power chords, along with repetitive drumming and, what appear to be bar chords on the bass. And that is it. Piss easy. Listen to their “guitar solos” if you can even call them that. It’s garbage.

And, before I get told that you all listen to music because it sounds good, not because it is talented, fair enough I guess. But the fact remains that this band don’t even sound good. At all. Honestly, listen to Stratovarius, Rhapsody of Fire, HammerFall, Dream Theater or Megadeth, and you’ll never want to listen to this garbage again. They manage to put all the parts of the song together amazingly well. And, ALL of their songs are in key. Unlike FoB, where only a few are even remotely in key. They also have great vocalists, unlike FoB, who’s vocalist has to use a voice editor. And it STILL sounds whiney and shit.

In conclusion. Stop listening to FoB because you think they look good. Just enjoy the nude pics of Pete Wentz you find on the internet, and listen to real music. It sounds good.

I am on this page because I came across it while looking at RS archives and wanted to see how many people would waste the time to post “Pete Wentz is SO HOTTT.” I don’t want to fight, and I’m not trying to judge people based only on their musical preference. I’m only saying that comparing Green Day (two words people, TWO words) to FOB is unfair based on the sheer musical history of each band. Putting the two on the same level is like putting say, oh, The Click Five on the same level as The Beatles, it’s just not right. If FOB are still around in 17 years and still making albums that have more than 2-3 singles, I will give them credit. But I personally think they are gonna turn out like Blink-182: bank on the Green Day-wave of the 90’s, have a couple hit albums, have a hit tour (possibly even with Green Day?), create a legion of fans, and then burn out and break up. It happens to countless bands and very few decent bands from the 80’s and early 90’s are still around. I respect that you stick up for a band you like, and that’s exactly what I did back. i think FOB is the best band. they are def my fave. i think pete is gorgeous, but that aint the only reason i love the band. patricks voice is amazing and hes so talented. andy has amazing drumming skills, and joe s great with his guitar. and pete is great on his bas and writiting lyrics and screamo. their lyrics really speak something. and they are amazing epopel and thank you for making this band becuase i love it so much

Fall Out Boy is one of my favorite bands (At leats, their earlier work), but Frusciante Fan put their entire career/future into perspective in about two comments. The man speaks the truth, and I applaud him.

Also, “accidentally” putting your penis up on the internet is NOT a valid reason for the bassist to be the frontman… He strums out a few unimaginative notes that half the time nobody can hear, but people think that he’s the lead singer half the time… Its Pat.
