Just saw them in Providence this week. Roth is fantastic and the band was great. Eddie is the best there ever was and will be. Please give us a new album and another tour.

Never seem Van Halen | 4/11/2008, 5:02 pm EST

I have never seen Van Halen Live and I have listened to them since the begining. I spent 24 years in the Navy and everytime they toured I was overseas. Just once I would love to see them live. I know they arn’t coming to Utah but I wish they would consider it. They are the best!!!

E.V. | 3/16/2008, 4:08 am EST

Thanks Guys see ya soon!!!

larry sparky | 1/25/2008, 11:57 am EST

Saw the boys last night in san antonio for the 6th time, what a joke, no michael=no background vocals/bass,come on dave give me a break =no vocals. Sammy completed this band, Eddie and Alex were great as usual, 6th and last show for me. Eddie needs Sammy and Mike a lot more than he will ever know or admit (does he even realize it?). Wolfgang looked overwelmed with what is being asked of a 16 year old kid, did the best he could. 6th and last VH show for me. Sorry guys have to call it like I see it. Good luck.

Pat | 11/16/2007, 10:24 pm EST

Well, Pat liked Van Halen in 1982 and Pat likes Van Halen now. Although Pat never really got to see them, Pat was there then and now in person via Pat‘s creator. Pat thinks that there is no Rock band like Van Halen with Diamond Dave, then, now, ever, PERIOD! Pat says that this band is the quintessential Kick-Ass Ass-Kickin, screaming tight licked, superior musicianship, under rated band ever! Pat says that Sammy Hagar although good still can’t shine Diamond Dave’s shoes when it comes to the Black, Brown-Eyed Soulful influence stuff. Pat thinks that Eddie VH is in the same category as Jimi Hendrix when it comes to being a Pioneer lick inventor. Pat wants to ask if a man over 50 should take the same multi-vitamin as a woman? Pat doesn’t think so… but Pat says “go to the vitamin store not the supermarket to buy vitamins”. Pat thinks that’s why Diamond Dave is still physically fit and can kick Axle Rose‘s boot clock clean. BTW, Pat also says that Eddie VH plays better drunk then Slash does sober… so there!!! Pat says that Eddie Van Halen is every 45 and older kids guitar hero.

Michael Anthony.. | 10/26/2007, 3:50 pm EST

Hey guy’s.Thanks for the support. Easy on them, lol….

John | 10/24/2007, 6:55 pm EST

It was refreshing to hear them crank out amazing songs like Little Guitars, Everybody Wants Some, On Fire, Jamies Cryin, and You Really Got Me/Ain’t Talkin Bout Love/Panama/Jump/Hot For Teacher the way they were meant. They were right on, amazing for songs they haven’t played in almost 25 yrs.

FEEDBACK SAYS SO | 10/24/2007, 3:52 pm EST

It rocked at the Joe in Detroit.
I’ve seen VH without Dave. And
must say it was nice to finally
see the lead singer back. I like
Michael, but didn’t even notice he
was gone. Best tune of that night
for me was ” I’ll Wait ” sounded
out of this world. Great job!

demoisedrawings | 10/22/2007, 6:49 pm EST

I’ve been a critic of VH, but through it all I’ve stayed a fan. So I’ve criticized them when I felt so, and given them credit as well. For all who want to nit pick beyond this, you don’t deserve to see this show. It was awesome! Dave sang well, and the band sounded great. Whatever era of Van Halen you like is ok, but if you didn’t like the Dave era, stay home. They didn’t try to look and act like 1984, they just played a hell of a show, sounding better then I’ve thought they have for a long time. So I give credit where credit is due. They announced a tour and have actually went through with it, which for VH means a lot. Sarcasim aside however, I repeat, they sounded great. Eddie got that brown sound that he initially became famous for, yet has been rarely heard since Roth, until now. That rich warm sound permeated the arena live. Wolfgang is truely a Van Halen, and proves that blood is thicker than water when it comes to replacing Michael Anthony. Mike was missed, but to tell the truth that didn’t bother me. I was more interested in seeing VH demonstrate what I don’t believe I’ve seen another rock band like VH do; the tradition of a musical family starting a new band, but playing vintage material.

If you liked Van Halen way back when… DON’T MISS THIS SHOW.

Though I have not seen them perform yet on this reunion tour I went to utube last night and saw a ton of clips from their show in Greensburo and the rehearcal gig and I can’t get over how amazing they still sound! Roth said at the press conference that they are going to stay together this time and make albums…I hope so!

T-Daddy | 10/1/2007, 8:52 am EST

Just got back from the Greensboro show Saturday night. My one and only complaint is why the hell it took them 23 years to make this happen.

I’ve seen VH on every tour since 1981. This was THE BEST show I have ever seen. The best concert EVER. Period.

All you “haters” out there who aren’t going to the show for whatever petty reason (you don’t like Dave, you miss Mike, you can’t afford a ticket, you’re too old to get your fat ass off the couch, etc.) - too bad for you. You missed out.

LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY VAN HALEN!!

Mr OU812 | 9/18/2007, 4:48 am EST

Been a huge VH fan since the very early 80’s. Loved them to bits both with Dave and Sammy.

However, i will not be hood winked into spending one more dime on these pricks. This is nothing short of a money grabbing sham. The VH website has ditched all albums from 5150 onwards like they never existed.

F–K you Ed&Al…..give up this sham you pair of has beens.

I won’t even bother stealing your music off the net, thats how much I loath you all now.

As for Diamond Fat Mouth Dave…what’s with the line….were moving into the future so forget about the pasture? This was obviously O.Ked by Ed & Co. so a big fuck you all. With no “pasture” there is no VH you nimrods..

To hell with ya…not a nickle out of me for ya anymore.

Learn some dignity, humility and respect for those who put dollars into your pockets..assholes!

I don’t know, I ‘d rather see Sammy and Michael. No offense, but if it’s not the original line up, I’m just not into it. I’ve seen Dave on tv lately and well, I wouldn’t pay to see him live. It’s never gonna be 1984 again. Sammy’s where it’s at guys. Get Wolfie a band together and let them open. You can’t replace MA. I want to see the JD bass solo!!

Hey Wolfgang, here’s some advice dude: run away from home.

Vincent Hanna | 3/9/2007, 11:24 pm EST

Eddie’s still a lousy drunk. I heard a few bootlegs of the 2004 tour. Cripes, I play better than that drunk! And that AP press photo going accompanying the press report of his going to rehab, I just have one word: Gollumn! Where’s my precious (bottle of bourbon)?

THANK GOD | 3/8/2007, 11:52 pm EST

Ed finally checked himself into rehab, maybe he decided he might want to stick around awhile longer. Our prayers are with you and your family.

Gary | 3/7/2007, 11:43 am EST

Back in the 1970’s, there was a book called “Paperback Writer” by Mark Schipper, who used to write for Phonograph Record magazine (now defunct). It was about a Beatles reformation. They release an album that is so bad that the promoters of the tour, who paid up the ass to have the Beatles on the road, bring in Peter Frampton to headline to boost the box office and reduce the size of the financial bath they take.

The more things change, the more they seem the same. Pathetic. Maybe they can get together with Steppenwolf and The Guess Who for a member mix and match (for those of you who don’t know, both of those bands have gone through a billion personnel changes).

The snark aside, all bands run out of ideas after a while. It is also true that musical chemistry is what makes bands function (note that they don’t have to get along personally; look at Deep Purple back in the 1970’s). When bands split up, that should be it. You cannot recapture lightning in a bottle. The Sammy Hagar era of Van Halen sucked. I thought that when Sammy, who can sing circles around Dave, joined, it would allow them to expand musically, but they became a faceless pop band.

Van Halen is dead and has been since 1985. Put it to rest you fucks. That anyone takes a new Van Halen tour seriously just goes to show the enorimity of the lameness of the general public.

Btw, I was into Van Halen before they even got signed, when they were still playing the Whisky and The Starwood. I just wish bands could be more realistic about when it is time to end what they created. This mess is what happens when they don’t (you listening Iron Maiden?).

Rolling Stone was finished as any kind of cultural force, too, when Jann Wenner turned it into little more than a big brother for his US Magazine roundabout 1981.

Black Bart | 3/6/2007, 3:14 pm EST

Meanwhile, Michael is jamming with the likes of Jeff Beck, Billy F. Gibbons and Jimmie Vaughn!! Michael and Sammy do more in 3 months than Eddie and Alex do in three years, and don’t piss and moan about it!

Go away Van Halen brothers!

VH Fan? | 3/6/2007, 1:49 pm EST

I have been a VH fan for close to 25 years now.. I have seen VH and Sammy in concert about 12 times now. I am a fan of VH, Sammy and DLR. I agree that the state of VH especially Ed and Alex is crazy. Eddie thinks the world revolves around him. DLR is out there but he’s always been out there so I don’t have a problem with Dave. Dave is Dave. Sammy has the next biggest ego but when it comes down to doing the right thing I think he will and does….. so I don’t really have a problem with Dave, Sammy or Mike. I think they all would perform with VH at the HOF if they could and I think they have always been open to jamming with VH.

Eddie and Alex I don’t understand. They should understand that being inducted into the HOF is a great honor. The fans have been waiting for 23 years for a DLR and VH reunion and I think we all at least thought we’d seem them perform one day at the HOF. If they can’t manage to do it for at least the fans then I think that’s a huge slap in the face to all the fans that have supported VH over the years.

When DLR left VH in 1985 you could understand why…. DLR and Eddie’s personalities didn’t give… with a band that is as hugely successful as VH was in the mid 80’s you usually can’t lose your lead singer and still be as successful. Led Zeppelin going on with our Robert Plant or the Rolling Stones without Mick Jagger…. but Eddie was LUCKY to get a successful rocker like Sammy to fill Dave’s shoes. At the time Sammy was the most successful solo rocker. The band kept rocking with Sammy. I think if they would have brought in anyone else the band wouldn’t have been as half as successful as they were with Sammy. I think by the mid 90’s Ed saw that VH was successful with Dave and Sammy. He could put anyone in as singer and they would still be successful. Wrong! What gets me every time I hear Eddie talk about Dave, Sammy or Mike after they have left the band he down plays their importance. Everyone knows Eddie is the man in VH BUT Dave, Sammy and Mike have all played an important role in the history of VH. I remember reading Eddie saying that they had to “tune down” with Dave after he left the band. He also said the same thing about Sammy??… and in recent years Eddie and Alex have been saying that they are the rhythm section of VH like Mike’s roll is not important…. Now Wolfie lays down the law that Mike couldn’t do? Shut the F___ up. If you want to say your son is good say it but why do you have to cut down the previous guy when ever a new guy comes into the band?? It’s kind like your saying to the fans the previous VH CD’s and concerts weren’t that good but now they will be that we have Wolfie. I guess we were all idiots for buying your CD’s and going to your concerts over the years??

Eddie says that Mike is out because he’s in a band with Sammy. That is B.S…. so what Mike has been jamming with Sammy the past few years. What do you want him to do Ed? sleep at your door step until you decide to get off your but? You jammed with Mike Jackson, on Sammy solo album and other projects over the years. Did you get kicked out of the band? Eddie is just a control freak. He thinks ALL of VH’s success is from him. I think if Eddie could he would do everything in the band guitars, drums, bass and sing…. but who would want to see that? The VH band was successful because it was a BAND that had multiple and talented individuals… as great as Eddie is it wasn’t all him.

Dave, Sammy and Mike have all been connecting with the fans one way or the other over the last 10 years. Eddie and Alex have had horrible public relations with the fans over the past 10 years. They can’t even pay a guy to keep their web site updated. It’s like your saying F___ you all. I’ll let you know when I want your money!

I have about had it…. I would love to see DLR in concert with VH because I never saw them together in the old days but I don’t know. If they F___ up the HOF and don’t do the right thing then I don’t know that I can support them anymore.

VH Sucks | 3/5/2007, 9:38 pm EST

This band has turned into a bunch of “has-beens”, led by the biggest of them Eddie. Alex is just Ed’s lap dog now and either tip-toes around Ed or is trying to bail Ed out when he gets in babble mode. The rest of them (Dave, Sammy, Mike) are whores that keep coming back for more abuse. I cannot believe the latest snubs related to their Hall of Fame induction. Real fan’s have continued to be tortured by these men that cannot grow up, and now they have the chance to correct many years of let-downs, but they choose not to.

They don’t deserve to be considered with the other legends regardless of the multi-platinum records, guitar wizardry, and ass kickin attitude. The reason: they don’t even remotely resemble that description anymore.

Let Extreme induct them…

sinned515too | 3/3/2007, 4:27 pm EST

Even though Ed’s gal is a publicist, it doesn’t mean that he can resurrect any semblence of old VH now, or even that of a new VH.

Ed’s credibility gets shot to hell more and more every day with his poor business decisions and egomanical control issues. Even Ed’s credibility musically is challenged anymore based upon his past performance on the 2004 tour where he was loaded more than not, and from 2004 through 2007, he only managed to squeak out 3 (or was it 2?) crappy, predictable songs for some a porn flick. Way to go, Ed!

He’s definitely pissed off many loyal fans (read almost any post in any VH forum, including this), to the point of the fans becoming hostile. Ed’s management of the band right now and how he’s managed to alienate them is the equivilant of Metallica’s pissing off of the fans in the “Napster” incident some years back.

And these days, without the established fan base backing Van Halen, their interest to the younger crowd is about that of any of the cookie-cutter bands that are out there today which are here today and gone tomorrow. With many younger fans, “Fall Out Boy” carries more weight than VH.

Right now VH should be looking to recoup their losses and just get a merchandise marketing deal with Target. This way they can sell merch to people who have no clue of who they are at all and buy the items because they look “retro”.

Van Halen may be indeed getting back to their roots like Ed said. If this keeps up, they’ll never fill an arena and no concert promoter would be stupid enough to back a tour where they couldn’t fill those places; and the delicate politics that exist between the members could blow up at any time. Van Halen may indeed be getting back to their roots soon because at this rate, they’ll be playing in their garage and won’t even sell that out.

Mr. Optimistic | 3/2/2007, 11:01 pm EST

This could one big publicity ploy. Think about it, Ed’s girlfriend is a publicist.

My prediction, they will play a the RRHOF induction (and it will rock) & the tour will be awesome.

the "NO MIKE" fools | 3/2/2007, 8:14 pm EST

People who shout “No Mike, No reunion” here are beyond asinine. you insult those who welcome the new VH positvely, actually believing you have the power to influence or shut down VH if they don’t bend to your demands. i believe that is what an ‘idiot’ is.

Black Bart | 3/2/2007, 6:50 pm EST

For all of you fed up with Eddie, this is what a sober guitarist sounds like!!
http://w ww.yo utube .com/ watch?v=1yGB6d_3n58

LovePowerFromTheMamaHead | 3/2/2007, 6:33 pm EST

Hmmm… Let’s see here…

1. Alleged “reunion” sans Mikey is already indefinitely postponed before actual dates were ever announced.

2. Now “Velvet Revolver” is slated to possibly play during the VH time at the RRHOF.

3. Rumors are that members of VH may not even show up at all now(?).

For anyone thinking that any tour will happen now, you’re hanging on by a thread.

There are some things worth waiting for and other’s that aren’t. This is one an “aren’t worth waiting for” now.

To Ed and Alex, aka “The Buffoon Brothers”, there is a saying that goes, “Any publicity is good publicity.” But now the negative publicity is so rampant, Ed, you’re really just looking like an ass-clown anymore.

Go to any VH forum and you’ll read the ridicule they write about you.

Your window of opportunity for this gig has closed.

Boy, is Royal an idiot.

The changing lineups add to what ?!?!? Mass confusion, more bad music.

Cool, then replace Eddie and see what you get. Just a dumbass like you happy.

I am personally sick of the merry-go-round attitude to players in VH.

No Mike, No reunion

This is Royal BS | 3/2/2007, 4:41 pm EST

This is Royale (WITH Cheese)

Dude, Please

This aint a Trekkie blog. Referencing Van Halen to Star Wars.

Get a Job, Move out of your parents basement,Go cut your mullet, get a Job, Brush your tooth, grab some smokes and a 40 ouncer, and drive their 1980 IROC Camaros into a brick wall.

Roth fans are just KISS fans in disguise. Dave is a singer in disguise.

THIS IS ROYAL | 3/1/2007, 5:03 pm EST

i really dont get all the whining about Anthony. you need to grasp the scope of this. the changing lineups only add to the rich history. this is great, this legendary group is down to its final three cards; the halloffame gathering, Roth and wolfgang. this new chapter of VH will be exciting, VH is a great saga BECAUSE of all the ups, downs, alliances conflicts, twists, subplots, which never sour the music. all the legendary ones had the same growing pains(beatles, etc) now we get to see the Toastmaster holding court, while The Maestro knights Amadeus? how can you not root for this? THIS IS ROYAL. this is star wars, old man vader being redeemed by his son..? get with the program ! and yeah, VH in the super bowl!! way overdue!!

Bobby Rose | 3/1/2007, 8:52 am EST

just wanted to mention one more thing.

i have no problem with ed jamming with wolfgang. i bet that kid is an amazing musician, i mean really, his dad is eddie van halen! how could he not be.

if mike was going to be replaced by anyone id rather it be wolfie. i have been reading some of this and it seems that a lot of you are bagging on the fact that he is now on the bass. that shouldnt be an issue. the big deal is that its not the original line up and it possibly can be if a few “im sorrys” are said.

i personally am looking forward to seeing how wolfgang turns out. when he gets his own band going that is. i just hope he is on guitar and keps the VH name around.

B.Rose

Bobby Rose | 3/1/2007, 8:29 am EST

i had the pleasure of seeing Van Halen in 1984 (dallas tx) when i was 11 years old. i still think about that show on a daily basis, it was amazing, and from then on VH was my favorite band. i went to see VH 13 more times with sammy as the singer and again with gary singing. and not ONCE did i witness a bad show. yes i thought the VH3 version was pretty good….im glad it didnt last but by no means hated it.

eddie and dimebag are the reason i picked up a guitar and i have now been playing for 23 years. so much of what they did/do is seriously melted into my style. you can tell who i am influenced by even on original material.

when i say that Van Halens music has been a part of my life, that is an understatement. and after ed got rid of the cancer i think that was the last i heard of VH up until the reunion tour a few years back that I attended……well, i made it to the parking lot and sold my ticket. after hearing horrible reviews and rumors of just horrific shows i could not stand to see my heroes like that. a buddy of mine who is about 10 years younger than me went to the show and said “i dont see what the big deal was, they sounded like shi*t and eddie looked loaded”

and now with the recent rumors of another reunion accept this time with dave and a possible tour, i couldnt be happier. BUT! hearing even more rumors of ed’s condition and knowing that mike anthony wont be there….i think i might have to sit this one out. and believe me when i say that I DO NOT WANT TO! but how can i go? i now live in las vegas and heard that they might kick the tour off here. i dont think i can do it….i dont want my last memory of VH to be with no mike and if the rumors are true about ed and his condition (playing and health) id rather take the old memories and live off of those.

if you are going to do a reunion with one of the biggest rock and roll bands in the history of the world, there are 2 things that must be in place….

#1. the original members
#2. all of the members MUST be in good enough shape and playing condition or else it will be a joke. If the stones can pull it off at like….80 years old or something, then van halen should be able to pull it off.

if those two things are not in order why go? my main reason for not going is b/c i cant see them in that condition, ill be more depressed than anything. AND another reason why i probably wont to go is b/c i dont want to pay an amazing amount of money for something that I WILL NOT get my moneys worth. if mike anthony was in the line up and ed’s physical condition and playing ability was in decent, shit just a decent EVH can still shred it apart like no other…i would pay thousands!!!!

if VH wants people to come to the show and possibly gain new ones and continue a legacy of greatness….get in the gym, dont play drunk and bring back mike. not only will every show sell out but they might have to move to outdoor stadiums. the potential for this tour is HUGE! but it sounds like an even bigger let down.

i hate it that i feel like this b/c VH was and is a huge part of my life. But going to this would just destroy the memories for me.

if you have any comments email me at bobbywilcoxrose@gmail.com

a true VH fan but very depressed,
B. Rose

This message is for Mr. Eddie Van Halen, if you would kindly pass it on.
Dear Mr. Van Halen,
I’ve only recently become interested in rock music after about 2 decades of listening to predominantly Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin and other artists of the 18th and 19th centuries. I am married to a wonderful man with varied tastes in music, ranging from Mozart and Bach to Yes. I’m also 44 and just starting to learn how to read music. Your skill and talent shine brightly; however, your life struggles are deeply disturbing, enough so that I dedicated the following poem to you. You may trash it or use it for whatever purpose you see fit. You have many great gifts and I can only hope you will recognize them and be grateful.

Sincerely,
Karen S
A concerned fan in Pittsburgh,PA

For Eddie

What are you thinking?
Are your mind and heart clouded
By an ego that’s sprouted
Excruciating pain.

What are you thinking?
Does the booze drown the pain?
This way you lose all your gains.
The soul is dead, just euthanized.
What’s left? Darkness and abject lies.

What are you thinking?
Will it take tragedy to realize
That money and power are not the prize
Worth having.
Man, now it’s time to get wise.

What are you thinking?
The habit will lead to your demise.
All your treasures will be compromised
By the monster in fair disguise.
Hopeless, lonely, you’re empty inside.

What are you thinking?
Make a change; take charge of your life.
Reconcile with friends and your wife.
Let go of anger, release the strife.
Find an oasis of peace and a whole new life.

Peace be with you.

Eddie has entered the delerium stages of alcoholism. He claims his bout with cancer was due to years oh holding metal picks in his mouth and not to years of smoking.

this is very cool news if true. it’s perfect. just promise me the opening song is “ME WISE MAGIC”!!!!!

It’s all about $$$$
VH is trying to get Roth to tour
for peanuts (hope he holds out)
-hope Hagar gave him the heads up after getting ripped off on merch & ticket sales in 2004. The 2004 tour was the WORST thing I’ve ever seen!!! EVH is a drunk, who doesn’t care about anyone -especially himself, keep smoking & drinking dude, your a guitar god -you can do anything. (great job screwing up your VH legacy) Glad Warner Brothers dropped them
no work ethic, -Roth said it best “Mr. fingers can’t get out of bed -probably too drunk.”

RATTL3R | 2/27/2007, 4:22 pm EST

I really hate to see such a thing happen .EVH was a hero to me and ripped the frets offa whatever he touched. Now what was the power house of rock music ,Van Halen. Is a goddamn joke. Partying havin fun touring , is one thing .BECOMING A DRUNKEN ASSHOLE IS ANOTHER EVH.Alex WTF are you doin while your brother self destructs? Got ya thumb up ya ass?
Ever thought ya damn brother could use a reality check aka a right hook?To be woke the fuck up? Mike “THE MAN” Anthony didnt deserve that shit. You sit around on your asses and wonder why he toured with Sammy?Ever thought the man enjoyed jammin? Instead of watchin the damn boob tube?
Hey EVH You owe me $20 for VH3, Wal mart told me they wouldn’t take it back even if it was never touched by human hands!

the world loves classic VH but the VH bros. call the shots because it’s their band. ive learned to accept this. you people need to stop hating and appreciate this new picture with ROTH, which is a miracle in itself. If EVH’s days are numbered on this earth, passing the chalice to his son would be an EPIC EVENT, especially in SUPER BOWL XLII. somebody call Don Mischer Productions and let’s do this.

Who are you talking to?

Chowda | 2/26/2007, 9:53 pm EST

Facts?? Oh wait here’s a fact.. Michael Anthony interview post 04 tour. “Eddie’s heavy drinking led to the abrupt end of the tour. It could have gone longer if it wasn’t for Eddie’s drinking. There’s your fact jack-ass. Besides what are facts in the music business? Its all gossip and BS.

LovePowerFromTheMamaHead | 2/26/2007, 9:08 pm EST

MJ in STL…

They’re full of sh*t.

The only terminal illness that Eddie has lately is being a terminal sh*t head for turning into one of the creepiest guys in rock and roll.

Chowda | 2/26/2007, 7:34 pm EST

What a load of SHIT…. Three dirty old men and a fucking teenager. I don’t care what your last name is Michael Anthony is the bass player in Van Halen. You Van Halen boys already ripped me off with that piece of shit tour you did in o4. Not gonna happen again. From what I hear Eddie will be gone soon from the D and A anyways. You have had so many chances to get it right and everytime Eddie and Alex find a way to FUCK it up.

Spence | 2/26/2007, 12:52 pm EST

Dont know if hes dying or not, but he sure has looked a whole hell of a lot better! there are some health issues apparently, but what they are aside from some alcohol/cigarette smoking is any ones guess till something is made “official” on the subject.

Anyway, get this tour shit straightened out and let’s see how good your boy Wolfie really is. I don’t doubt that he is good and full of energy…he’s fifteen he should have the energy of an atomic bomb. I’m in regardless just get the show on the road.

In regards to all the Dutch crap…Just remember “You ain’t much if you ain’t Dutch” Rock on ED!

A Tru Fan/CS | 2/25/2007, 9:12 pm EST

First of all…everybody give it a break. The best cure for EVH is his son. Playing w/your son is great.I’m no star, but I’m doing it now. He’s 17.It’s very hard to be in a band,w/all the attitudes. But when your kid is in the band, your own attitude changes for the good of band. Rock on VH, with Wolfie.I know he will be able to handle it.This will be great for all.Stay positive Eddie. My son and I Hope to see you this summer.

WE THE FANS, WANT - Eddie van Halen, Alex van Halen, David Lee Roth and Michael Anthony AND NOT a 15 year old kid on bass!!!! WE WANT THE ORGINAL VAN HALEN AND THAN THE TOUR WILL BE A BIG SUCCESS!!!!!

MJ St. Louis | 2/25/2007, 4:38 pm EST

Sad Sack __ Where and when was this announced. I can’t find anything on this.

Sad Sack | 2/25/2007, 4:02 pm EST

It has been announced the Ed has taken a turn for the worse.Apparently he is no longer in remission. They were trying to rush this short tour thinking he could make it through .He wanted to play with his son while he was still able.It returned fast and hard.Thats Why David Lee Roth commented about not knowing if the van halens were going to the RRHOF awards. The Man is dying, treat him the way you would want to be treated.

The Real Deal issues in Van Halen

Hmmm, Eddie is a prima donna, Eddie is a drunk, Eddie can’t play like he used to. Eddie has a big ego, Eddie rips off fans by selling guitars he paints in his garage, then plays those guitars on stage, then sells those guitars through his own ebay store, Eddie then hits up fans for tons of cash for outrageous ticket prices for the last reunion show.Puts out two greatest hits package, with a threat of the third one looming, oh, right, we the fans really NEED the Roth years compilation. Then, places his 15 year old kid in the band after treating Michael Anthony like crap for the last TEN YEARS. Then lie saying, “I want to play with my kid”. Looking at the track record, it’s more like, I want more income from my kid !Zeer Nederlandse Edward, kwetste ons wat meer

Only More rip offs to follow.

Your right, nobody knows the real deal issues with Van Halen.Idiot-gat in de ezel

F EVH n MJ | 2/25/2007, 7:36 am EST

Oh, so Eddie has a Ferrari and wants to give the keys to his 15 year old kid, no problem, but you have all your fans in the back seat, and maybe we are sick of paying for Van Halen crashes.

No Mike, no peace, no show. Call it fools, call it Drunky and his Monkees. Call it Late by Ten Years- Ten Years After is already taken- but please don’t call it Van Halen. You stuck us with Gary once.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice- and we won’t get fooled again.GB.

Dutch Thang | 2/25/2007, 7:26 am EST

Maybe it is a Dutch thing: Being a self centered bitch.

Please,Don’t call it Van Halen If Michael “The Mighty Mike” aint there. He means a lot to the fans.

That is all

Mike-USMarine | 2/25/2007, 5:08 am EST

Remember one thing Ed. Your fans are what made Van Halen what it’s today. We have stuck through all the BS that you have put us all through. The word Van Halen used to mean something and stand for something more than a soap opera. If you want to play with your kid, by all means go make an album just you and him and tour. But keep the integrity of Van Halen the way it was originated. Yeah Ed, times do change, there used to be a guitar god who made great albums, played great and was sober enough to remember what it was like to be the greatest band in the world. You have made Van Halen a joke and that is sad.

Long Live Ed | 2/25/2007, 2:00 am EST

ITS ALL HYPE IDIOTS!!!! Imagine ur Ed, or Dave. The one thing you would want to do is give this tour hype. Canceling it made the fuckin front page of the LA Times!!! Now everyone knows about this thing. Way to go to whoever had this brilliant idea. It also played perfectly into the misconceptual character of Eddie. Everyone would believe he cancelled it. It disturbes me how people think Ed is some kind of monster now. People just don’t change that easily. Because of the way he doesnt like to communicate with people or the press has caused people to make up rumors about him. Get a grip people. If I was Ed, I would kick out michael anthony too. He went on a tour with Sammy, naming their band…the other half, shoving it in the van halen’s faces. Fuck them, they’re gone….Long live Roth and the Van Halens.

MJ St. Louis | 2/24/2007, 11:56 pm EST

EVH — I couldn’t have said it better!!

EVH | 2/24/2007, 11:34 pm EST

if you people dont like whats happenening then dont come to the show. My son is an amazing musician and I want to expierience this with him before my time runs out. You speculate without knowing the real deal about the real issues in VH.Times change but obviously some of you ideots never will. Kiss my ass and lets call it a day. Cheers , EVH

LovePowerFromTheMamaHead | 2/24/2007, 8:19 pm EST

Oh what the hell, why don’t we just replace Eddie with Steve Vai and Wolfie with Billy Sheehan.

Keep Sheehan and Roth away from each other and let Alex bang away on the drums.

Then re-name the band “Vai Halen”. This way they can keep the logo!

OR we could get “Buckethead” to replace Eddie, but then that’d screw up the whole logo thing.

Keep it the way I first mentioned it.

ringostore | 2/24/2007, 4:14 pm EST

I loved the last time they did this, I got to hear 2 new songs on that black CD with Roth. Plus seeing them together at the Much Music Awards. My good friend was a “Beck” fan, and Beck presented the award to VH!! So cool.

Perhaps this is a great revival again. I just hope they make a few new songs together and slap them on CD.

Hey Eddie, I kinda do what you do, I design my own guitars too with the same sort perception. I play your style and thinking, but I am not an immitator. I haven’t even tried to learn any of your songs note for note. The guitar is just a piece of wood with strings.

For a dutch dude, your ok. My sister in law is dutch and she is self centered bitch.

Oh well, just repent you guys. The wages of sin is death.

Say No to Drugs | 2/24/2007, 2:43 pm EST

Mak’n no cents is right.

Whats wrong with drugs: must be on them. You know this guy can’t be a fan because he is so pro anything Eddie does. Probably is Eddies drug connection.

No Mike, No my Money. No Mo !

That noise in the background- the crickets chirping, must be the sound of VH reunion tour.

Oh, the band finally got together, after 8 more years they are finally playing, but the fans moved on……

Well if your SOOO into the family thing you Bell Head, you’d probably go if Valerie was singing, Buttwipe.

I can’t help if your mullett waited around living in your parents basementfor 20 plus years for both VH and Roth’s career to fall so low, that nothing else is a better career decision.

Face the facts. And why stick up for a 15 year old kid who Daddy is giving a job to. If you want the real reunion, you should scream for the return of Michael Anthony.

Be a real fan, not a lemming.

All Mike did was stay loyal for 3o years. The guy deserves Sainthood.

Edward Van Halen | 2/24/2007, 1:54 pm EST

I just called Matt Wales to let him know what a great job he is doing with www.VanHalen.org we also talked about him coming down to 5150 and doing some vocal traks for some of the music I have in the vault. Can’t waiit to get started, he f’n rocks!

www.VanHalen.org

Black Bart | 2/24/2007, 11:30 am EST

The brothers offered Mike an absurdly low, take it or leave it offer to tour after already screwing him for rent money at 5150. Like he wants to pay to watch Eddie drink all night??? If Alex had a hair on his ass he would help his brother sober up!

what now | 2/23/2007, 10:47 pm EST

Mak'nCents | 2/23/2007, 7:47 pm EST

Nobody is saying Eddie can’t do a project with his son.

Just

1)Don’t cherone it up by calling it Van Halen. Don’t force it on the fans. Mike for 30 years was the bass player. This is not just ONE persons opinion. Listen to everyone else.Any kid might be good at any age, but this seems kind of hokey to me. Everyone is saying it’s wrong.More important is the fact that VH as of the last ten years thinks it can interchange band members at will. When does it stop.

2) Get your priorities straight, let the kid be a kid, have him jam with kids his age, don’t toss the pressure of Being in a RnR Hall of fame caliber band on the back of a 15 year old kid.Listen , no matter how great (or, lets face it, most likely BAD)Wolfie and the reunion could be, a 15 year old kid could be wrecked for life.with Drugs, with alcohol, std’s, being spoiled, whatever. This is way too much pressure.

3) Don’t subject your kid to ridicule. He will allways be “the replacement” . My god, The great and mighty Sammy Hagar was seen as a “Replacement” for years to the God Awful stretched face goofiness of non singer David Weave Roth.Roth went nowhere after Van Halen, so you can’t say the guy is a talent.Nothing was sustained. He would be in the back of a paramedic truck trying to score a dimebag in Central Park if Ed and AL didn’t call him. What do you think they’ll say about Wolfie ? Daddy made you ? If it doesn’t work out, Your Cheroned as a joke for life.It really is a no win situation.

You must be the retard, drama of it all.

a fan | 2/23/2007, 11:29 am EST

ED YOU READIN’ ANY OF THIS?DUDE JUST DO LOCAL SHOWS,HELL MAN DO WHAT YOU WANT,LETS GO HANG AT “ON THE ROX” BRO!! IF YOU WANNA PLAY GO OUT AND PLAY,IF YOU WANT TO STAY HOME AND MAKE MUSIC DO THAT,YOU ARE OLD ENOUGH TO MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS.SEE YOU IN L.A.

The Drama ofII It All | 2/23/2007, 10:56 am EST

SO,having you father help You get started in music is wrong?Doing a project together as father and son is wrong?Oh yea, thats right I forgot,if you play music ,You CAN’T GO TO COLLEGE!WHAT A F-TARD !!If He wants to be a cross country runner like alex’s son thats great but it seems he has chosen music(yes you can still go to college and keep your grades up dcfs man)maybea full blown tour isn’t the right thing for a 15 year old,but music can only make his life better, especially if you get to do it with your father.

Done | 2/23/2007, 10:32 am EST

You know I don’t really know what the problem is in VH. I can only speculate on what I read in the different articles. But the fact of the matter is someone in the VH camp, the band members, management, lawyers whoever don’t give a rats ass about the fans. I’ve been a loyal fan since 78 and I’m tired of being jerked around from whoever. So my friends I’m jumping off this ship.

tommy-tommy | 2/23/2007, 4:04 am EST

Check out the L.A. Times article of Feb. 22 at www.latimes.com

How did the greatest American rock band ever come to this, three singers (only two of which mattered) and many great records later?

It’s over, it’s over, it’s over. Our favorite band is so over. My God, get some help, Ed, for the sake of your son.

I'm your DCFS man | 2/23/2007, 12:57 am EST

Yes, please, thats what every 15 year old needs.

An album made by your Daddy.

Has anybody ask Danny Bonnaducci or Dana Plato for some advice on what NOT to do with a 15 year old kid ? It seems people really want to mess this kid up.

I have an Idea, let Wolfie go through HIGH SCHOOL. Wow, what a NOVEL idea. How about concentrating on GRADES and BEING A KID.

Hey, well, he just MIGHT want to go to COLLEGE.

Oh, I’m sorry. Thats right. Eddie NEEDS him. Lets call him a , hmmm, genious. Just like Dad.You know guitar playing like hair color, eye color, is all hereditary, right ? Lets back WHO ? oh, right, Wolfie !

And in say, what, 10 years, if Val does the right thing, Wolfie can go pick out colleges with Mom , not rehabs.

CHECK THIS CHICA | 2/23/2007, 12:45 am EST

Now their reporting that Eddies girlfirend (Janie Liszewski/High Profile Media) is NOT their manager, but their publicist.Irving Azoff- the ( INSERT ADJECTIVE OF YOUR CHOICE)person that brought that highest of ridiculous ticket prices Eagle reunion back from frozen hell.

You know the Eagles, the band that just signed some type of exclusive deal with walmart to release their cd’s.Don (Mr America Walden) Henley sees nothing wrong with this deal, by the way.

Hold on to your wallets. There IS a hole in the world tonight.A pipeline from the heavens to your pocketbook. A “whole” lot of ripping off of the fans !

So, it seems that Janie Liszewski works/worked for High Profile Media and her clientele are all porn stars.

Ed recently made music for porn movies.

Kind of makes sense.Nothings going to compare with the f@cking we are getting as fans. That is, until they release ticket prices information. Bend over. Roth will be selling those pants with the buttcheeks cut out for this very purpose.

Soap Opera continues. It is so far a homage to the silent movie era.

And lets applaud Mr Sammy Hagar, a man who recently commented on the fact that may start doing free shows, because the Tequila is doing so well.

No matter what you think, about Roth or Hagar, Sammy will allways be a class act !

Dave, well, Daves Dave-the class clown.

BYEBYE | 2/22/2007, 11:41 pm EST

MJ St Louis.

Wolfies FAIR GAME. He is a made, albeit, made by Daddy, member now.

If you want to be mad at anyone, Look at the drunk he calls his Papa. He is the guy foisting him into an unwinable situation of stepping into the large shoes of a beloved and competant bass player.Mike may not be crazy technicle, but he fit well with Eddie. Put a Billy Sheehan (although he would never want to work with Roth ever again) in there and it would become a jumbled mess.

Also, what kind of father puts you into a situation at the age of 15 of receiving adulation (or utter shame) and being handed drugs, alcohol and groupies. That is not what a proper Dad should do.Maybe getting a singer his age, supporting that at this point. You don’t put a kid into a RnR hall of fame band.

But obviously, being an idiot serves you well.

You say you saw them in 1978. This aint your 1978 Van Halen your seeing, sister.

Where have you been ?

Mad About Turds | 2/22/2007, 11:29 pm EST

MJ St Louis:

You Must be drinking up there on -how did Dave put it- Howdy Doody Mountain with em.

To say something as stupid as “You guys are great with Dave or Sammy, Mike and Wolfgang.”

1) When have you heard Wolfgang ?!?!?!?!?

2) Dave is a mess as well. Maybe you liked his Talking in 78 (it certainly wasn’t singing)You’ll love it now. He is worse !

3) How can you, as a fan , support this irrational behaviour. Due to your remarks, I would have to say you are quite irrational as well as emotional. Why not hire everyone out in the band to other players, so you, the idiot ,can be satisfied with something you can call a reunion. Then your dumbass can pay a lot of money, get ripped off, and then be happy.I think your dumb

Be a fan, not a Lemming.

eddie knows | 2/22/2007, 10:31 pm EST

I still think they got a little worked up because of all this “RRHOF” stuff, and dlr coming into town and being seen at or around 5150 studios and a press photog grabbing a few pics to seal something with rolling stone magazine and all. about the only people making money out of all this before anything can really get out of the gate is the photographer who sold the pic(s) to rolling stone, and rs for selling a few hundred more million copies of there magazine.

L.A. Times entertainment section says everthing has been called off.there is a big write up on the “situation”,a quote or two from dave.from what I read,Wolfie was holding the whole thing together,to bad his old man couldn’t hold it together for his son.I know if the oppurtunity to do somrthing like that for my son I think i’d take the time and make the effort to make it happen.

MJ St. Louis | 2/22/2007, 9:58 pm EST

To all of you that are making degrading remarks regarding Ed and Al’s son’s - GROW UP - these are teenagers just kids. It doesn’t reflect on them. Only on you and how low your self-esteem must be for you to knock someone else down trying to make yourself feel better. And you call yourselves Adults?

To VanHalen: You guys are great with Dave or Sammy, Mike and Wolfgang. It would be great someday to see all of you touring together. That would be the mother of all reunions!!

To Ed: Your in my prayers. Alcoholism is a day to day struggle and it’s tough, but , you can do it. Look what you have made of yourself, through hardwork, determination and commitment. Alcoholism/addiction will end up 1 of 3 ways- jails, institutions and/or death. I have seen it all to often. I can’t believe that is what you want for yourself and your family.

I have seen you guys in concert once in St. Louis when you were opening for Black Sabbath. I have been hook ever since. I just could never afford to see you guys again, having a child with special needs takes all my time and money. But next time you come to St. Louis I plan on being there.

Good luck to you all of you!!

dont want to picture him with his pants down or anything kinda gross, “police had to cut thru the bathroom door due to one of eddies guitars jamming it shut from inside the bathroom, no further details as to why he had a guitar in there with him at the time of his collapse”

Van Halen’s road plans have taken a rocky turn
By Geoff Boucher, Times Staff Writer
February 23, 2007

On again, off again
click to enlargeFor Van Halen, the stars seemed aligned for a triumphant 2007. Next month, the group will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the plan was to follow that with a summer reunion tour that would feature David Lee Roth back at the mike for the first time since the Reagan years.

But, once again, the backstage soap opera of Van Halen is the story of the day.

The Van Halen tour has been “shut down,” according to a top official at Live Nation, the huge concert promoter that finally surrendered in the face of the chaos surrounding guitar hero Eddie Van Halen. Roth, meanwhile, says he is unsure whether the mercurial guitarist will even travel to New York for the Hall of Fame induction on March 12.

“We have fragile politics in Van Halen; please accept that as a partial answer,” Roth said. “But I don’t know if the Van Halens are going to go….I hope they do, but right now, I just don’t know. Hope springs eternal.”

Eddie Van Halen declined interviews through his publicist and girlfriend, Janie Liszewski. Conversations with the business team behind the tour paint a picture of a rock star who is somewhere between Axl Rose and Michael Jackson on the music industry scale of eccentric recluses. The result is that the Van Halen venture imploded before takeoff, even as the Police, the Eagles and Genesis have efficiently geared up for lucrative reunion tours.

“I cannot tell you how frustrating and completely nuts this has been,” one key business figure in the tour said while asking not to be identified on the outside chance that the reunion might be salvaged. “Right now, I have to say, I don’t see that happening.”

It’s a disheartening situation for the fans who pine for a Roth-led lineup of the iconic metal band. Among those devoted is Wolfgang Van Halen, the 15-year-old son of Eddie and, according to Roth, a key force behind the reunion.

Wolfgang, a precocious musician, was “the maestro” at the reconstituted band’s lone rehearsal, picking the set list and using his iPod to remind his father of the nuances of his solos on the old albums. Wolfgang was tapped by his father to play bass on the tour too, replacing founding member Michael Anthony, a jolting choice considering the child’s age and Anthony’s status as one of rock’s best backup singers and most relentlessly cheerful presences.

Eddie Van Halen remains, by all accounts, a gifted guitarist and rock auteur, but the decision to jettison Anthony in favor of a teenager may have been the first sign that the new enterprise was guided by creaky logic. Now all eyes will be on the Hall of Fame banquet to see who shows up, who performs and how Roth interacts with old rival Sammy Hagar, the man who replaced him as lead singer in 1985 and who will be inducted as an equal.

On Valentine’s Day, when the tour still looked viable, Roth was all smiles as he sat down for an interview in a bungalow at Chateau Marmont. The 52-year-old was wearing a snappy black suit and the short haircut that has recently replaced his old pro-wrestler cut. He still flashes a karate smile, but the singer seems calmer and more focused than in years past. The reason, he said, is that he’s fresh from working as an emergency medical technician in New York. It’s a longtime dream of his to be a paramedic, and the unglamorous gurney and rubber-glove duty humbled him, he said.

“I was working in neighborhoods that were almost exclusively black and Spanish-speaking, so only maybe twice out of 200 clients was I recognized…. I was joking about this in the truck on New Year’s Eve, which was my last shift — I was working in Brooklyn, down in Coney Island — I said that I’ve been in more project apartments than Jay-Z and Diddy combined.”

Roth was the rock frontman on top of the world when he went solo, but — as Mick Jagger and Robert Plant also learned — fans treasure him more when he was side-by-side with an equal on guitar. Roth seemed like a vainglorious sex panther in Van Halen, but on his own he often came off as a relentless jive salesman whose only product was his own past. Roth is still “on” all the time — he calls it his “incandescent personality” — but lately he comes off as the voice of reason, a pretty stunning change.

That, and the financial prospects, made him jump at the chance to work with Eddie Van Halen again. Of the old days, he says: “There was a lot of sparks and a lot of tension, like your favorite movies, especially those underground ones…. There was a lot of anxiety too, but it was about ambition, not ego.”

Roth was optimistic that the band would follow up the tour with new music; he also pointed to the cache of 1996 recordings that he did with Van Halen during an earlier reunion flirtation. Now it appears the entire output of this new reunion was a single rehearsal in January and a photo shoot with Roth and Eddie, Wolfgang and Alex Van Halen. Alex is Eddie’s older brother and the band’s drummer.

“Hearing it again, that’s an elixir…. What we sell is that we make all the guys feel young and invincible and all the girls feel young and desirable,” Roth said. “I watched it happen to everybody that was listening in the studio.”

Van Halen was a monster of rock and, for a time, arguably the biggest band in the world. According to the Recording Industry Assn. of America, Van Halen albums have shipped more than 56.5 million copies, which is more than the career totals of U2, Celine Dion, Shania Twain or Prince.

Roth said that he and Anthony will be in New York for the Hall of Fame, as will Hagar, the affable “red rocker.”

Last month, Hagar publicly chided Eddie Van Halen for taking his son on tour. He also added that “the guy is a genius, but he’s just out there and it’s hard for people around him.”

In 2004 and 2005, Van Halen toured with Hagar and, according to Pollstar, grossed $55 million playing arenas. But Hagar said that Eddie Van Halen was drinking heavily and, on some nights, it showed. In Chicago, Eddie stumbled throughout the set and, at one point, quit playing and sacked out, telling the crowd: “I done run outta gas.”

There were tender scenes too. With the tour winding down in Los Angeles, for instance, Wolfgang came on stage at the Staples Center to play. The body language of father and son made it clear that they reveled in the shared spotlight. Roth said that that affection led to the hopes for the Van Halen reunion.

“I’m going to put some words in Ed’s mouth,” Roth said. “Whatever explanation he may give about having his son in the band, I’m going to superimpose: He wants to play with his kid while he’s still at the top of his game and able to … and that’s also the same reason I’m in the band in its current configuration. No questions asked. He said, ‘Hey, c’mon up the hill and make some music.’ I said, ‘Great. I’d love to play with you while you’re still on the top of your game.’ ”

Roth smiled, but a moment later, when he was asked about what he feared most about the reunion, he didn’t hesitate with his answer: “The two worst words in the English lexicon are ‘band meeting.’ ”

Van Halen Bassist | 2/22/2007, 6:58 pm EST

As much as I have made fun of Michael Anthony over the years (mainly due to his stupid bass solos live in concert), he (and Alex) have developed into great musicians.

I used to go get beer at the concession when he played his solos in concert, but IT ISN’T A REUINION WITHOUT THE ORIGINAL MEMBERS…YOU FUCKING IDIOTS!

I am glad this fiasco came to an abrupt end! It was inevitable anyways!

Don’t buy into it people! Don’t pay for a compilation greatest hits CD!!!

Let Ed sink into a depression while he thinks of all of the time he had his true fans hanging on a leash!

Pick you ass good Ed! Keep on digging! Practice makes perfect!

Tour Cancellation | 2/22/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I so hope to God that the tour was cancelled because of at least some of the comments on this site.

You snooze, you lose and you all deserve nothing less than this backlash from your FANS!

Jeff | 2/22/2007, 1:14 pm EST

I talked to a friend of mine, and we plan to see the new Van Halen show if it comes to Jacksonville Fl. We are both guitarists and have somewhat idolized Eddie for years. However, in the last tour with Sammy, which we both went to, Sammy and Mike seemed to shine more than anyone else. They have plenty of energy, and seemed to really be enjoying what they were doing. Alex looked like he was going to fall asleep at the trap set, and Eddie just stunk up the place, especially during his solo. he sounded like a bad EVH impersonator, and was obviously drunk off his butt. I paid 70 bucks for the cheap seats to that show, and I hope that if I have to be raped for the same amount or more this time, That Eddie puts his best foot forward. If you’re reading this Ed, I love you man, but it’s time to grow up. Also, having your son in the band is kind of sweet, but your band is no longer VH without Mike and his Jack Daniels bass. Peace!

Don | 2/22/2007, 12:48 pm EST

I heard Eddie is fighting with Wolfie. Thats why they cancelled.

Is it back on?There’s been no movement at the Van Halen compound.Every once in awhile a wine bottle comes rolling down the drive.Got a great dsl signal here.

T. J. Nicholas | 2/22/2007, 11:36 am EST

M. Anthony is not a strong player, and Wolfie will handle the bass lines and the backing vocals, at least until his voice changes at puberty. I am in to see Ed with Dave and to hear the early VH tunes!! I am so in, this will blow the police away!!! Doo doo doo, daa daa daa…. whatever. “Look at all the people here tonight…”

AT GAS STATION ON VENTURA.... | 2/22/2007, 9:06 am EST

It’s true. Myself, Edward Van Halen went to the gas station down the rd from my house and studio, at the corner of coldwater canyon and ventura. I was tired - Had been up playing with Al. Wolfy left at around 11pm. Al and I jammed till 2am. We were drinking a little and having a good time. I was stuck on this tune - played till sunrise. Went to the house and woke up the girlfriend. She wanted to run some errands before going into the city. I said, “hey, I’ll hang out with you before I hit the sack.” I took a nap while she got ready which was like 10 minutes. Then I grabbed some clothes and went out. I probably looked like a fool, but I don’t care - who cares about that sh**. I’m not a big guy - clothes kind of hang off me. I’m in great shape for my age though - no fat. The girlfriend drove. The drive from the house to Coldwater is dirt - her car is filthy because of it - I tried to get her to wash it while we were out but she didn’t feel like waiting. I said “hey, stop here at the gas station so I can grap some cigarettes.” She pulled over. I went in. Was in line for like forever. I gave the cashier some cash - couldn’t understand what the fu** they were saying. I mumbled to them.. “learn how to freakin speak english.” It’s too early in the morning for this sh**! I went out to the car - I was like really tired and motioned this to the girlfriend as a sign of “you’re wearing me out.” The girlfriend was talking to Wolfie, who called on his way to school. He thought of a few musical lyrics - She passed the phone to me and I discussed with Wolfie until he had to go. Went back up the hill shortly after and hit the sack.

Over the past 30 years I’ve seen several tours, most of which were from 79′-84′ Van Halen was my lifes sound track growing up. Now if this tour would take me back to the first time I got laid, then I’m front row and center. Yet, I betting it will be more like a flashback to waking up next to a fat chick.

I paid my respects to Edward at the opening show in Greensboro, NC. back in 84′ It was worth the $100 bucks to say good bye to the man who taught me how to play a mean air guitar.

With that said, I’ll pay the 19.95 for the DVD.

Wheres Eddie? | 2/22/2007, 1:13 am EST

?????

Rhumgod | 2/22/2007, 12:29 am EST

They are lost……period.

Rush should be in the RRHOF. I’ve argued with them as much and their reply is always the same - not enough influence on R&R. Please! It’s rare for a band to actually play the songs thesedays let alone as well as any of the trio. No, they’re recognized by everyone but the RRHOF which is a complete joke. F them.

was_a_VH_fan | 2/21/2007, 11:24 pm EST

after getting a glimpse of Sammys book I think the VH brothers are Monsters!!! and I will never go to another concert again……ED/Alex you guys created your own problems be a man and do whats right !!!

Are you people fucking serious?

That douchebag EVH made a cool 7.5 milliion dollars off of that endeavor.

Good job supporting that!

Reuters | 2/21/2007, 6:39 pm EST

Reuters has announced that the tour has been indefinately delayed and that the greatest hits CD will feature NO new songs.

Good job guys! Throw in the towel man! It’s over before it even got started.

And keep ripping people off with another greatest hits CD.

We know what Eddie Van Heinekin’s pouring into. It’s a constantly empty - allways needing a refill booze glass.Douchebag.

Roths tired as hell too

Johnson City | 2/21/2007, 6:03 pm EST

Did that David Montgomery dork really say “If you spent your whole life pouring energy into making music and touring like he does you might be a little rough around the edges also”

They haven’t toured since 2004. Before that mid 90’s.Last real album release was VH3 with Gary Cherone. What planet are you on, dude. Eddies a Drunkie Junkie.

If your paying astronomical ticket prices, it better be a good show. They ripped me off on that last tour.

This montgomery guy can’t really be a fan.

No Mike=No show by the fans

Monkeyshines | 2/21/2007, 6:02 pm EST

A clip from Dave’s last solo tour give a clue as to what kinda of drunken debauchery we can expect on the Van halen tour if it ever happens. Hopefully Dave and Eddie both can put the bottle down to give us something worth a damn for a change…

href=”http://undergroundr ecord s.org/top100_8.html” target=”link”>Dave wasted live in 2006

Fall of Roth | 2/21/2007, 5:32 pm EST

David Montgomery, you are a fool

Jonas Salk is a genious, not David Weave Roth.

Its not the same seeing Van Halen with Roth. Do you think by propping up that goofball your getting the real Van Halen ?

On the last tour with Sammy, Eddie was so hammered, it was amazing that the rest of the band could figure out what the hell he was doing. It purely sucked. Sammy and Mike were the only ones that cared about the audience.

So, pay ridiculous prices to see substandard talent, because you like the old albums and the video.

I saw the last VH tour, I saw the Sam and Dave tour, where Roth embarassed himself.

I have loved VH all my life.

It’s over.

Time to put your book of dreams away.

David Montgomery | 2/21/2007, 4:43 pm EST

I really can`t believe the comments here. OK, it`s disappointing that Mike isn`t on the tour but hey, we`ve got something new here. It`s 2007 guys.

All the comments on Eddie looking worn out. If you spent your whole life pouring energy into making music and touring like he does you might be a little rough around the edges also. Who cares what he looks like. Its the music, the feel, the energy of Van Halen that matters. Ok, he drinks and smokes. So what, he’s a rock icon. He`s the real deal.

For Dave, he might not be the greatest singer live but I think his tone and energy on the albums is all class. It`s not about perfect performances during a concert but the atmosphere, the good time fun. And thats Dave. He`s eccentric, but thats what makes him a genius. There’s only one Dave, and he doesn`t care about what anyone thinks.

All the very best to the New Van Halen.

Andy Early | 2/21/2007, 3:28 pm EST

Wow what the hell is all this crap about —? I’m a musician myself and honestly I’m glad I stayed local! Eddie can only help himself and that’s the answer - Van Halen was history a long time ago, and Eddie’s still high! Money, wealth and ignorance kills alot of people everyday. I agree get him straight and use the money to fight cancer, even if it’s from metal guitar picks!

Edward Van Halen | 2/21/2007, 2:57 pm EST

What are You doing stalking Me at a gas station? And I had just finished eating a powdered donut!Thats why I had white powder on my nose!

Brent | 2/21/2007, 2:54 pm EST

This circus should be shut down for good. I’ve been a VH fan with Roth, with Hagar, but ever I recognized trouble when VH was in their prime and Roth was exiting. They had many great years with Sammy. But then he was given the shaft. It is simple. Eddie is impossible to work with unless you’re Alex. Anyone else is a stretch. There really isn’t a need to argue about this. We all can “read the writing on the wall”.

What I find hard to swallow is people being critical of RUSH or any other band when holding a candle to VH. RUSH has been great and continues to be great. Opinions certainly vary about any band.

My opinion is this, take me back to 1984 and 5150 timeframe, and VH was one of my favorite bands. RUSH is one of my favorite bands now. When I was younger I didn’t appreciate them. Took me learning guitar to appreciate them, check out all their material which is extensive, and now find them to be at the top my my music list. Times change. People change albeit slowly under normal circumstances.

lmao at the “LA weekly” article. eddie van halen at “9:00 a.m. in the valley” cracks me up, these guys were signed out of highschool. eddie didnt have to worry about anything “9:00 am” in his entire life after that point, for the better part of 30 years at least. what would anyone expect from this guy at 9 am either than just that (smelling like booze) people just dont realise what a spoiled little brat of a life eddie van halen has lead up to this point. i dont want this to sound like a jealous rant, but that kinda stuff (dirty laundry) is kinda interesting now and then to read about.

Not With Eddie

By TED E. GRAU
Wednesday, January 10, 2007 - 6:00 pm
On a recent morning, as I was driving my beloved to work in Century City from North Hollywood, we stopped at a gas station on the corner of Coldwater and Ventura to load up on supplies (coffee, smokes, Bratz press-on tattoos, etc.) before heading up the canyon to parts better known and vastly overpriced.

Tapping my toe to the hottest of Hindi hits lilting softly through the burnt-coffee-scented air, I noticed a small commotion at the front of the line. What I saw was a frail, hunched man, with longish, stringy hair and gnarled, shaky, “hard work” hands, wearing a loose-fitting long-john shirt, faded jeans and expensive track shoes. While the cashier waited, the man muttered to himself as he arranged six packs of smokes into a stack on the countertop — three packs of American Spirit heavies, three packs of Marlboro Light 100s (the chica smoke of choice). He was too well dressed to be a bum, but also too unkempt and “lived in” to be anything other than a burned-out roadie or an out-of-work roofer. He’d obviously seen too many late nights, but he also seemed like a scrappy sort who could mix it up, work with his hands, create… Hmmm… What’s this Hessian dude’s deal? And what’s with the smoke stacking, you goddamn smoke stacker?

As I watched him futz around with the cigs and thought to myself, “This is one chain-smoking mother fucker,” he turned his head to the side, giving me a brief glimpse of his profile. All at once, I realized that he looked very familiar, like an old friend who didn’t look the way I remembered but was still very recognizable based on a strong memory deeply rooted in the lizard brain of my youth. Then it hit me, like the first strains of “Runnin’ With the Devil,” the midpoint of “Eruption,” the last note of “Ice Cream Man.”

This was Eddie Van Halen.

Muttering to himself. Stuffing change into his wallet with shaky, gnarled, hard-work hands. Stacking six packs of smokes on a countertop. Two brands. Three a piece.

This was Eddie Van Halen, my first guitar hero, the blistering virtuoso with the striped guitar, the fuel behind the first great American arena-rock supergroup.

Eddie Van Halen, the musical whiz who was described as “coming from a planet where everyone plays guitar.” The guy who taught us about the “hammer on” move and the tremolo,
