Exclusive: Diamond Dave Spills His Guts About Van Halen Reunion

2/15/07, 5:46 pm EST

Van Halen recently announced that they’d be touring together with their original frontman David Lee Roth for the first time in twenty-three years. Roth spoke exclusively to our Brian Hiatt about burying the ax with Eddie, playing the old favorites with a different attitude and the possibility of a permanent VH reunion. He also dropped more metaphors than we ever thought humanly possible. Read highlights from the interview, which will appear in its fully-realized form in the next issue of Rolling Stone, which hits stands everywhere February 23rd:

  • On his first post-reunion jam with Eddie:
Eddie and I wrote the songs, every note, every syllable, as if we invented a language that only we can speak. It was an easy, natural thing…When you speak a language that you both created, it’s natural to go, “I know you.” So it was very easy. There wasn’t any stumble at all. I just showed up, and twenty minutes later, it was the usual, “How’s the wife, how’s the kids, let’s play.” When you’re born to do that language, you speak it naturally. I never forgot it.
  • On how rehearsals are going:
The chemistry is combustible. There’s an explosive sound there that is, I think, perhaps…unless you were there, which most folks weren’t, than you may have forgotten. This is really sophisticated, smart stuff. Everybody’s at the top of their game in terms of…it’s not just intangible things. My voice is arguably better than it was when I left the band back when. I love what I do, perhaps for some different reasons now than I did, more so than I did. It’s a privilege to do what I do for a living.
  • On whether or not the reunion will be permanent:
God willin’, and the creek don’t run dry, just like Grandma Roth used to say. Barring any act of God or Ferrari…yeah. I have hope and faith, and that’s more than just the name of a couple of strippers from Albuquerque.

Well, VH kept fans also fit like panthers! Only a few kids can dance upside down on their (breakable) heads today. Like Crazy…the kids are also all fat. I can not see how most of the dance bands today are worth their salt!
DAVID IS GOD.
MA was lightening and thunder and supported everything,(like TIGHT). The Van Halens from Holland are beyond Genius; and the love songs by Sammy were unforgetable. Wolf is a good second string, he is no original, but he has been getting a fantastic chance in show business. The others are like an extended family. I wish they would put it all together, mix and shake it up, and I see hope and light…

it does not have me very good music when im in the concert show

Gigantor64 | 10/17/2007, 7:23 pm EST

If you have the ability to get tickets…RUN, do not walk, to your nearest ticket seller/scalper and SEE THIS CONCERT!!! They played here in Indy on Sunday and I am still telling people about it. ABSOLUTELY MIND BLOWING!!! I have been going to concerts for almost 30 years now, and this was BY FAR the BEST show I have EVER seen. LONG LIVE VH AND DLR!!!

Rocker Girl | 10/15/2007, 12:04 am EST

Just saw VH in Cleveland on the tenth and was amazed by the energy in the coliseum. The sound is still true to it’s original roots and Alex and Eddie still perform solos so shockingly wild that people were on their tip-toes trying to watch every move. As for David Lee…oh David Lee…that voice is pure sex appeal and fits with the VH brothers like a hand to a glove. I was thankful to be the chick on the receiving end of his talk track in Panama about “leaning the seat back”..I watch him say this to me over and over on youtube…for one good reason…that boy is STILL sexy!!!

Diana P | 10/12/2007, 8:51 am EST

I just saw VAN HALEN for the 1st time since 1982, and they were SMOKING HOT !!! I can really appreciate them more now than years ago. They came out and knocked my socks off, I was in awe of them. EDDY is hands down the best guitarist in history, and DAVE is absolutely amazing !!! What he does with his mouth is just as amazing as what Eddy does with his hands. Sammmy was ok with the band, I saw him in the late 80’s. But he is NO comparison to DAVID LEE ROTH. DAVE will go in the history books as the best front man ever and best voice ever and Ed will be there right next to him. They are great together and great for each other. Michael Anthony was a great part of the band, no doubt, But they don’t need him, Wolfgang is doing a Great job, and can hang with the rest of them, If he was my son and could play I would take him too. Alex was phenominal on drums. Hats off to you DAVE, EDDIE, ALEX AND WOLFIE. I am in awe of your music!!!!! see you in Worcester on November 6th-I got front row center seats- Ya -hoo

Frontman and Drummer | 9/28/2007, 1:32 pm EST

Steve…I’m sorry. I’m a musician as well. Now, while I believe that they had some good stuff with Sammy, nothing compares. And relax on Wolf, he’s a kid, so chill. Dave is probably the greatest frontman of all time next to Robert Plant. I’m not against change at all…Zeppelin changed all the time. They didn’t start sucking until the last two albums…but they successfully changed all the time. Now, there’s a few bands that didn’t. Aerosmith is one of those bands. And sorry, most of the stuff with Sammy, wasn’t so hot. And Gary…c’mon…the songs just weren’t good. I’ve seen the videos…I think Wolf is doin a hell of a job. And Jason Bonham is a hell of a drummer at that. These guys are schollars, all of them…this is going to be a hell of a show at it’s worst. But then, I never had the chance to see VH. Had the chance to see Van Hagar…but not VH. And I never went to Van Hagar. So…instead of Bullshitting and thinking wel all know everything…why don’t we wait a bit and see how things go. It just might have a lasting impression once again.

I would rather go see Sammy and Mike@the North Pole than go see this (per)version of VH even if I was given front row seats — no Mike, no Sammy = NO SOUL !! — and I’ve been a VH fan right from the beginning — pissed off and through with these guys

Fair Warning | 8/23/2007, 7:58 am EST

I like DLR era and Sammy Hagar era, both are rocking!!! I hope my hero ed doesnt start drinking and smoking again on the tour, if he does hes a gonner. Dave Lee Roth, king of the one liner: “I’m surprised any of us are still vertical after 30 years”. HAHA, thats rock n’ roll for you.

steve, amen. i have waited 20years to actually imagine a person who thinks like you. Eddie is the reason i play guitar, i dont care if osama bin laden is singing for the band its still van halen. I wouldnt pay any more or any less for either singer. They all pull their own weight. I just hope they could quit the choir girl gossip and give us a tour once and for all. God bless steve, thank you.

F.U.C.K. | 3/3/2007, 11:45 am EST

I was really hoping that VH would play a few songs at the ceremony I mean my god can they not just get along for fuckin 1 hour at the most I mean all the fans have put up with these fuckin egos for so long.We all know that Sammy is more talented then Dave music wise but Dave has that fuckin great persona he could sell a blind man glasses for fucks sake. Both Van Halen eras are great and poor Gary Eddie fuckin ruined him,I mean if you listen to Extreme mainly the old stuff its great shit!I hope they invite Gary to go out after or say some nice words about him.Mike you are class to rise above what the brothers did to you and pay respect to the fans by going I want to thankyou!

Please someone show this on you tube!

Steve | 3/1/2007, 4:23 am EST

As a musician for the better part of the last 25 years….let me set a few of you idiots straight. First off, if you’re out of high school….drop the popularity contest! Roth-era…GOOD! Sammy-era…GOOD! Gary-era…GOOD! If you are a musician, or even a FAN of music, then you can not be biased one way or the other. Good stuff is good stuff! If you are so prejudiced that you cannot accept change then go lick your DLR poster on your wall! I’m sick of listening to this same old shit from people who DONT EVEN PLAY AN INSTRUMENT for the last 2 decades! BUT…………………….I have to also say, to all you numbskulls who think that VH with Wolf is gonna rock, that my friends is NOT a hereditary gift! that skill is NOT passed on thru DNA! That is a skill that is only aquired thru years of hard work and practice, as Eddie himself has said in numerous interviews.I think that you expect too much because of the name! How long did Jason Bonham last?! It is gonna be SEVERELY messed up to send this kid out on the road with “some” of the guys when he has not paid the dues, wasn’t around when the songs were even WRITTEN, and has to carry that MAD-FAN burdon as well! He is not Mike, VH is not VH without Mike, and I am ashamed that Ed and Al would even think to try to take this on the road to pull hard earned cash out of all your wallets to try and say ” WE ARE REUNITED!” Again, as a MUSICIAN……if you study, the next most popular thing to Ed’s guitar on ALL the recording’s thru-out the years has been the background vocal sound. A unique blend of Eddie and Mike’s voices….and SO IMPORTANT that MR.HIGHNESS GOD VAN HALEN decided that the records couldnt be released WITHOUT THEM! THAT’S WHY YOU HAVE ALL HEARD THEM!!!! Why are they now dispensible? Eddie is a god-damned wreck, and it saddens me as a fellow guitarist, but for the love of GOD, don’t condoen this reckless attempt sell-out reunion shit! It’s like the old K-tel records when I was a kid…..you bought it because it had 14 fave hits on it, then you play it to find out that the songs have all been edited to 1 minute long each! DON’T EDIT VAN HALEN! Minus Mike equals minus 1/4! wht’s next bro’s? Remaster all the oldies WITHOUT his vocals?! Save the kid from YEARS of therapy, ALL OF YOU show up and accept your induction based on your contribution to MUSIC, and don’t be jaded by personal feelings….because again, this ISN’T ABOUT YOU! It’s about what you ALL have contributed to music in the last 30 years…..it is NOT about who Eddie hates this week! Be a fuckin adult! You were my hero, and now I am soooo glad that I can play, but that I am NOT like you from a personal sense. I have friends and people who love me. Get over yourself and get back to the person who inspired me more than any other when I was younger! Your gift exceeds your quircks, and the rest of the Country see’s it! Can’t you? Play your God damned guitar….in every interview PRIOR to the last 10 years, you yourself said that is all you wanna do. So step up or SHUT up! Also, strange that you now hear that the Tour is off? Maybe all the negative press over Mikie has had some impact? Also really strange to hear that Roth has NOT had something to say about playing on stage next to someone who is a POSER….you know he has no hard feelings for Mike. So what gives? Drop all the “this guys better than this guy” shit, and realize that it is ALL why we are fans! But then again, ask yourself why this has taken 10 years, and why it’s not going so smooth as well? Problems, guys.

Matt. | 2/27/2007, 6:51 pm EST

Everyone lose the fuckin ego you all have enough money, make the fans happy you should have did the Best of Both Worlds tour with both Dave and Sammy or divided it up so the fans could pay to see the frontman they like best!

Nothing like Van Halen and pussy in the summer!!!!

Get it together for fucks sake!!
and Fuck Off with the Best Of Albums if I want that I will go see Kenny Rodgers get back to the good albums 1984 and 5150!!!!

NoRegrets | 2/26/2007, 9:19 pm EST

You would think that if Dave and Sammy can manage to do a tour together anyone could….. Get over your Ego’s and tour well your all still around and able. If the fans are willing to buy tickets why can’t you suit up and show up? We have done it for you all these years!! The ultimate show would be Van Halen I and Van Halen II with ALL THE ORIGINAL”S …. call it Double Feature.

Get wolfie a band to open with.

I would do anything for love…. But ….. I won’t do that.

Scott Blugrind | 2/26/2007, 9:33 am EST

I want the real deal. Mike, Dave, Eddie and Alex. They are all alive and still rocking.
Through industry people and living in LA, I have heard some weird Eddie stories. I love Van Halen so much I plugged my ears and said, “Lalalala, I can’t hear you!” Maybe I should have listened.
I will wear my gold “VH” necklace till this whole mess gets settled.
I have a feeling they will pull it together and make a tour announcement at the Hall of Fame party to get maximum coverage.
PS: I love Sammy too.
Rock on Rolling Stone, rock on.

This tour will happen there is plenty of money to split up.
summer tour starts in florida .
Roth is the best frontman for the job.And anyone who thinks different wasent there in the 70-80s
keeping in mind its 2007
Nothing is ever the same .
ed will stay sober ,al will stay sober ,dave will be close enough. and the tour will go on .
“remember my words Florida will be the first spot on the tour .

homey the clown | 2/22/2007, 10:08 pm EST

Ummm….Wolfie next to Roth. Nope.
A van halen concert is no place for a 14-15 year old. First girl to pull up her shirt and Eddie is dragging Wolfie off stage by his ears. Roth can’t be Roth with the kid next to him. Edward’s parental skills will cause fights with Roth…This tour will not happen.

gib_der | 2/22/2007, 9:22 pm EST

I forgot the fuckin word’s,,and i didn’t care (fair warning)standing on my seat as well as 10,000 others,,,roth smoked sammy,, most haggar fan’s never seen the greatest show man on earth, and from the sounds of it ,,,they never will!

gib_der | 2/22/2007, 9:00 pm EST

yes it’s true, were fucked once again!rollin stone say’s it’s postponed indefinetly, witch means,,,fuck you fan’s again in the ass!!!I don’t know who’s in charge over there in the van halen camp, but all of ya better get ur heads’s outa ya asses or your all gonna end up broke in the end,,the way you guy’s spend ur money..this is your last shot at doing this.Music is changing fast and fan’s are about done with your fucking egoes,,so i’d say it’s now or never boy’s.And eddie? sooner or later someone is going to smoke ur ass on guitar and it will be all over 4 u2..sorry if the truth hurt’s but we have had to deal with this shit 1 to many times now!i’m done as well as many more i’m sure!!!!!!!!!!

C# Minor | 2/21/2007, 11:04 pm EST

Dave’s contract should allow him to collect the entire band’s income for any gig at which Eddie is drunk and incoherent.

Vhunleashed | 2/21/2007, 11:03 pm EST

I think this is what most people have been waiting for ,for a long fuckin time espeacially me ,also i think that mike anthony is a good bass player and was good with the band but i think wolfgang will fill the shoes and if Eddie says hes got what it takes ,then listen cause when it comes to musicianship Ed knows what hes talking about, and i think alot of people know that ,so anyone who has shit to talk ,well i say,”shaaataaap”!!!Sit back and enjoy the show “This is history in the making”….

Matt Kerr (5150.) | 2/21/2007, 5:18 pm EST

First of all I need to say something,Don “Go Fuck Yourself”.

Just heard the tour is a bust for a while looks like you won’t see Roth putting on any more wigs and
his fuckin purple spandex pants anytime soon!”Right Now” Sammy is in the studio making some new shit and not trying to relive the fuckin 80’s.Roth can only do this quick Van Halen gig because its all he has left because he needs the money Sam does not!

I will give this tour 2 months before Eddie is kicking the shit out of Roth backstage and calling Sammy in Cabo to get his ass on the next plane to do some serious jamming.

One more thing play 5150 against 1984 and tell me who is the better singer!

Hagar Fuckin Rules!!!!
5150,5150,5150,5150 !

Yeah .. postponed till they get it right.

Dear Ed… saw the YouTube of your “amazing” demo at the Fender Show… please buddy .. go back to the woodshed… are you kidding??

This is how to get it right.

1. Wolfie OUT - Mike Anthony back in.

2. Release the long awaited boxset of demos - live - outtakes from the 1975 - 1984 period. It should be 6 discs - with 4 of rareties - one of VINTAGE DVD video - and one of the ” best of ” and containing no less than 4 new songs.

3. Don’t ever speak or do interviews. You are a screwed up man. Let DLR talk.

4. Get a stylist for the band fast.

5. Repeat in the mirror every morning. ” I am only 25% of the Van Halen that matters and the original Van Halen is far more than the sum of its individual parts.”

6. Suggest you get a tattoo of number 5.

NailzMan | 2/21/2007, 2:11 am EST

Roth and EVH back onstage again will be history in the making. Forget that cover band known as VanHagar and let Ronald McHagar sell his tequila to his followers.
I wish Michael Anthony was going to be on tour with them, but looks like we can’t have everything. This is as close we are going to get to CVH so we have no choice but to deal with it. Roth on!

big fatty | 2/20/2007, 11:00 pm EST

its about time, ain t no other live rock act comes close to the mighty classic DLR fronted VAN HALEN god bless you motherfuckers its time to rock. and they should open the tour up here in vancouver.we can caii it VANHALENCOUVER.THE police are starting their tour here as well as black sabbath with dio,

“indefinitely postponed?”
what gives? somebody i know heard the same thing this morning on the radio.
can anybody confirm this?

ss | 2/20/2007, 8:07 pm EST

1. This alleged tour is probably never going to actually happen.

2. If it somehow does happen, it probably won’t last the alleged 40 shows.

3. Any shows that do happen are going to be train wrecks. TRAIN WRECKS.

matt harper | 2/20/2007, 6:13 pm EST

i once had a chance to see van halen durung the 1984 tour , my cousin had tickets lines up and to meet a guy at the mall , which the guy didnt show up , so i never got to see the first round of van halen .. but listen to all of it! then 1986 came and van halen with hagar came in to our lives. now ive seen every concert from 86 and on. ( except for vh III raining like a bitch out side ) .same and dave tour was disappointing for me cause dave wasnt what i expected. his band was almost better than the rear deal . so some of you cant live without dave and or with out sammy . but what makes this bad is eddie. case closed if his heart is in it for the FANS!!! we will experienc the ALLMIGHTY VAN HALEN we all really want . but will we every really truly get what we want and deserve???? any fool can get up there and sing to us!!

Bookemdanno | 2/20/2007, 4:56 pm EST

Good to see some old regulars here.

Time has come!!!!

FORD | 2/20/2007, 1:59 pm EST

One of the SHEEP asked “Can Dave sing How Do I Know When It’s Love??”

Wrong question.

The point is that Dave would NEVER sing that godawful cheese ballad horseshit. And that’s why Van Hagar sucked. Third rate pop music appealing to the lowest common denominator.

The MIGHTY VAN HALEN is back to kick your ass. Hide the SHEEP!!

EJH | 2/20/2007, 12:52 pm EST

I am stoked about this reunion just because VH wasn’t all that magical after DLR. I never bought a VH album after Balance. And until we hear WVH sing let’s refrain from the “he’ll never replace MA” comments. Yes, they are big shoes to fill, but cmon, it’s WVH for crying out loud! I do hope there is focus this time around. Unfortunately VH did put on some pretty bad live shows but I never got to see the original lineup so I’m willing to give it a try. Oh yeah, this is 23 years in the making and something about the reunion will be announced on 2/23. Now go see the movie The Number 23 premiering on 2/23. VH 4EVER!

FlopJimmy | 2/20/2007, 10:04 am EST

Saw Hagar and Roth in concert. Roth was so bad we left early.
Saw the Van Hagar “reunion”. Eddie was not good, mostly just embarrassing.
Put Roth and Ed together now, take away MA, it’s going to be very
disappointing.
Thanks, but I’ll just hold out and catch the Eruption tribute band instead.

Dr.Paul Harrison | 2/20/2007, 10:00 am EST

This reunion will last as long as gasoline at a $1.99 a pop!You better fill up fast before these two call it quits.

iamprovidence | 2/20/2007, 1:54 am EST

Look I’m as happy to see Dave and Ed back on stage as anyone…but without Michael Anthony, it’s just not right. I will youtube, but not attend.

too bad. Ive been waiting for this for twenty years…

Ron Jeremy | 2/20/2007, 1:33 am EST

I saw the Sam and Dave show in ‘02(03?). Sammy puts on a great show but, his group was pretty much a bar band. Coulda been a tad more solid.

Roth sang better than any bootleg vid I’ve seen of VH from the past plus, his band was top notch. I’m exited about this reunion!!!

Maybe Edward can do a soundtrack to one of my films!

redarrow5150 | 2/19/2007, 11:36 pm EST

You guys are trying to relive your youth if you believe Roth back with Van Halen is a good thing. Michael Anthony is the backbone of great backup vocals which will be sorely missed. Secondly, the current lineup is providing nothing more than to milk ANOTHER greatest hits album and taking the cows to a stadium near you. Roth can’t sing, Eddie is psycho and Alex couldn’t give a shit about this bands legacy as long as the might dollar leads them to anywhere. Sammy belongs with Van Halen and let’s not forget the idiot know as DLR left the band for a “movie career.” I distinctly remember Eddie saying that having Roth back would be “going back” and he was interested in making new music. I love Van Halen but these last 10 years have been nothing more than making money and shitting on fans.

TESLAFIED | 2/19/2007, 10:57 pm EST

I’m not sure if any of you jackass’s seen the Dave and Sammy tour last year. Well as SAMMY got on stage he rocked the house and when Dave got on he was forgetting words (VH songs) and he was mummblin words, the drunk he is! Thats why Mike stayed with SAMMY…..

NATE | 2/19/2007, 9:39 pm EST

What would doctor phill say? God bless Wolfie. eddie I relize its to late now and I wouldn’t dissapoint my son after all the hard work he’s put in, but its not right! probably just because michael sidded with sammy or whatever should have been MICHAEL!!

redplexi | 2/19/2007, 9:25 pm EST

I am one of the Biggest’s Van Halen Fans, especially Eddie. I love both Lineups, with Roth and Hagar.

I just Have a Problem with Ed coming out of his Coma from over the Last 20 Years, and now wanting to build an Empire. Instead of Making Music. Maybe it was the 50% in the Divorce. We all know that Ed’s mind was not right over the last 5 Years, but Cutting Mike Off Dry was Not Cool. Playing with your Son is Cool, but you and Al could have called it a VH Related project.

on Saturday! Ray Luzier is fricken phenomenal!

Vince Albano | 2/19/2007, 7:47 pm EST

This is a long time coming. i am quite disappointed in the fact that Mike will not be on the tour. Someone else here said he was the weakest link which is far from true since Mike added the classic VH background sound. It will be interesting to see Wolfgang play as for the fact he is Eddies offspring but I still think that Mike should join the tour. I seen Dave play last year with his band at the Starland Ballroom and I hope he sheds a few pounds …lol …Still ove you to death Dave…but give me a break…..lol…Your still the best front man ever. Anyway for all us huge VH fans….cant wait!

Kendall Wayne | 2/19/2007, 7:38 pm EST

I’ve got to say that as a diehard VH fan I think that Mikey should definitly be involved with this tour. It would be great to see Wolfie come out for a few songs but you can bet your ass that Mikes background vocals are going to be greatly missed. Hell I truly believe with all my heart that Mike could cary the lead vocals with no problems. He really can hit higher notes than Sammy or Dave.

Gregory | 2/19/2007, 6:58 pm EST

In a perfect world, a VH reunion with DLR would have happened 10 years ago, but it looks like this is the best we’ll get before retirement sets in. Mikey was great but is the most expendable of the original four members. He had to know a reunion would eventually happen but chose to play with Sammy in the Other Half or their new power trio. Anyway, Wolfie’s addition adds something new this tour and I for one will be there to see it!

No mike no mike no mike | 2/19/2007, 5:51 pm EST

With his radio show last year (before the company took away his staff) DLR showed he still has it. He could be at the top of his game, even. On VH III, on the guitar, Edward was more inspired and rockin’ than he had been in almost 10 yrs. I have hope that that kind of inspiration will return tenfold with this new lineup, that this is not going to be the obligatory nostalgia band thing as with the 04 hagar tour supporting another greatest hits CD. Have faith, people! It’s not like we have anything to lose! Give ‘em a chance.

Robo | 2/19/2007, 9:20 am EST

Roth can’t sing.
This reunion is worthless.

Ramzi | 2/19/2007, 7:23 am EST

My 7 year old love VH and David Lee Roth he does a great inpersenation of the Diamond. You should hear him sing “aint talkin bout love” He wants to go and see the reunion to. Should I take him??

Ben | 2/19/2007, 7:04 am EST

I was really excited when I heard about the tour - a tour which I’ve been looking forward to for 23 years now. But since I’ve seen the Eddie-Fender video and heard about the new greatest hits album, I’m finally fed up.

BabaO'Really. | 2/18/2007, 10:57 pm EST

ok. Uncle Dave is gonna show Wolfgang the ropes. That is what is going on here kids.
I’m tired of know-it-all wankers whose only claim to fame is that they can still push PLAY on their freakin stereo.
Life has a funny way of being crazy. And rock n roll quads that by 4.
Time may prove, like all these posts here prove, that VanHalen is as important an American Rock Band as there ever has been.
Hot for Teacher? “Have you heard Junior’s Bass?????”
BRING IT.

BabaO'Really. | 2/18/2007, 10:49 pm EST

the number of posts here proves that VanHalen (and there’s a little VanHalen in ALL of us)is one of the most loved and important American Rock Bands of all time.
Life has a funny way of turning out messy. More power to these guys for surfing the unpredictable tide and keeping the rock alive.
I am so sick of know-it-all purists whose big claim to fame is that they can still push the PLAY button on their stereo, so they know the REAL DEAL.
Bullshit. it’s 2007 meth-breath, and stuff changes…in case you hadn’t noticed.
Some people wouldn’t be happy if you handed them a 100 dollar bill and a pre-greased dildo, so they could go fuck themselves.
Bring it on Uncle Dave..Wolfgang needs the experience. WooHoo!!!

an original Chi-town VH fan | 2/18/2007, 9:33 pm EST

Ladies and Gentlemen…Van Halen is coming to a city near you. I, too, am concerned that Mike is not going to be on stage. I would have been great to see the original VH4 on stage together. I saw VanHagar a couple times and am looking forward to seeing VH with Dave. I will miss Mike’s vocal and k.a. bass solo during the show. Although it won’t be totally the same, I am looking forward to the new tour. Eddie, have a heart for the fans. Is it possible to have two bassists? I don’t think Mike would mind Wolfie standing next to him. And what the heck…bring Sammy out for a few songs too.

G Reeker | 2/18/2007, 6:26 pm EST

I can’t wait to hear songs like
Little Guitars
Romeo Delight
DOA
On Fire
Atomic Punk

Stay Away Hagar

OU8ABAD12 | 2/18/2007, 6:13 pm EST

I am so glad the Mighty VH is back with Dave! I loved Sammy when he was by himself, especially during the VOA era, but he wasnt the backbone of what made VH great!

Metal Bob | 2/18/2007, 5:51 pm EST

This is going to be a great tour. While I would love to have Michael back, I think Wolfgang is going to pull his own. No way his dad would humiliate him like that if he couldn’t play. Most fans are afraid of Van Halen becoming a “nostalgia” act. Well, if Michael Anthony was on board, that’s exactly what we’d get. With Wolfgang on board, he’s adding a new fire and energy into the band that they haven’t had since about 1980. A band playing a concert is about CREATING music, not RE-CREATING music. We will have this with Wolfgang.

The real wild card here is Dave and Dave only. I’ve seen Dave many times over the last few years and his voice has declined rapidly over the last few years.

This is what I think we might get with Van Halen Mk.4:

1) Dave talks his way through songs like Frank Sinatra in his final days whle trying to keep his wig on straight after the few karate kicks he uses to cover up the fact that he can’t sing any more.

2) Instead of Dave singing (after blowing out his voice the third show into the tour), he just does martial arts moves for 90 minutes while the band levels the venue with their new found power due in part to the bass playing of Wolfgang Van Halen.

3) Van Halen will maintain each solo slot in the show as they did in the old days. Wolfgang Van Halen will go up to the microphone and say, “I’ll show you all you naysayers who said you wouldn’t come to this show because I’m playing bass! Well, you’re still here anyway! You’re a bunch of liars and a bunch of bullies!” Then he’ll tear into a bass solo that will make Jaco Pastorius and John Entwhistle rise from their graves. Wolfgang will also debut his new instrument - the Snapple Ice Tea bass!

4) Dave on the other hand, for his solo, will give CPR lessons on stage while the band tears into the most ferocious version of “Somebody Get Me A Doctor” they have ever played.

Sam | 2/18/2007, 4:54 pm EST

Michael Anthony is`nt in Van Halen because he quit and joined the other half of sappy ballless rock.

john | 2/18/2007, 4:52 pm EST

All you poser who say vh is not van halen without mike go out buy some hot sause and tequila and enjoy the other half, because we true fans all know van halen is`nt van halen without DAVID LEE ROTH !!! THE BIGROCK IS BACK !!!

www.gizzarelli.org | 2/18/2007, 1:47 pm EST

here is the bottom line:

van halen is not just the band that started it all. it’s a huge compilation of talent.

the tour should be a show of love and respect for all those involved.

i’ve never seen the original van halen, but how awesome it would be if they all could share in the reunion.

it would be a great show of character. Wolfie could play a little, Dave could sing a little, Sam could do a little, and Mike could thunder a little.

Sure, the cut would be a little thinner, but maybe the gross would be soo much bigger …

Best …

Ernie Welch | 2/18/2007, 1:41 pm EST

If Al wears that goofy white bandana and matching neck brace again, at least we can look forward to some unintentional comic relief. Do you think Dave will do the harp solo in The Full Bug? Playing 1984 from start to finish would be cool. Dedicate And the Cradle Will Rock to Wolfie. This could be fun… or not.

McWeevo | 2/18/2007, 11:27 am EST

It might have been ideal to have the original 4 classic VH lineup, but music is organic, and maybe something decent will grow out of this lineup. Give Wolfie a chance, before his daddy keels over. We need to hear more EVH, and this may be the last chance!

The Dude Of Life | 2/18/2007, 11:18 am EST

THERE IS ONLY ONE VAN HALEN:
EDDIE VAN HALEN
ALEX VAN HALEN
MICHAEL ANTHONY
DAVID LEE ROTH
PERIOD!!!!!!!!

THOSE BETTER NOT BE “BROWN M&MS…

pseudojoe | 2/18/2007, 11:02 am EST

i love vh, but i’m out. it’s not a true reunion without mike. not to mention that as unpopular as it was to have gary in the band, by not talking about it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen. he should be in the rock and roll hall of fame with the rest of the band.

Missing in Action | 2/18/2007, 10:27 am EST

The mighty Van Halen crashes and burns! — been a fan from the beginning — did the concert thing — stayed a fan throughout all the Dave to Sammy to Gary back to Dave (briefly) back to Sammy - and now back to Dave again thing — but now without Michael and with Wolfgang !!? — I’m done! — I’m just gonna put on my favourite VH tunes and forget this tour is happening — what a sad way to tarnish a great rock ‘n’ roll legacy - No Michael ? — no VH ! and no me!! — not this time.

vanallanrox | 2/18/2007, 8:27 am EST

No more hawaiian shirts at Van Halen concerts.

vanallanrox | 2/18/2007, 8:26 am EST

we want anthony | 2/18/2007, 7:47 am EST

boy i thought that mike just did not want to do it, now i have found the real ego maniac this whole time just wants to expose his son,he comes from great jeans dont get me wrong but ed help him with his own band if there is indeed a reunion its not one without mike drop the ego eddie dave is not sammy dave could not carry a tune even if he pretended it was a dime bag of weed, i love the old faction of vh but dave needs mikes killer backing vocals to cover up his vegas lounge act style of simging. so guys if you really want to give the fans what they want they want a full reunion. go it 100 percent or dont go at all. dont cheat the fans. not that you care eddie and dave we all no its about you, and it will fail you guys are too me driven to care about we fans. but good luck still respect alex though keep banging along you deseve better go start a band with mike and sam and put your son on guitar still will do better than this crap you guys are not ego driven.

MA will return. Yall know it.

Ken | 2/18/2007, 2:54 am EST

Hopefully, this will mark the resurgence of real rock-n-roll in the marketplace, on the radio, and on the video. An atom bomb to blow all the non-playing hacks that are crammed down our throats by Clear Channel Radio and Mtv. Maybe musicians who actually know how to play their instruments will be able to get record deals again; unlike all the rap and hip-hop garbage of the past 15-20 years. The music biz has crammed this stuff down the throats of the masses because it was cheap to make. All I can say is Viva Van Halen and support live music played by real musicians!

Roth IS Van Halen | 2/18/2007, 1:41 am EST

Sammy Hagar is a dork. Dorks should not be allowed to pretend they are rock stars.

David Lee Roth is Van Halen. End of story.

Matt Kerr.(5150). | 2/17/2007, 12:46 pm EST

You know I want to say that honestly I have been a Van Halen fan since I first heard “Why cant this be love”.I then went out and got all the albums and gear and have been to alot of Van Halen shows with Hagar and his solo stuff and with Cherone for”3″.I got to say that the fans deserve more from this band and if Roth makes them happy and they can actually write a new record then I think this reunion is great! and I will be there.I also want to say that Hagar is a great musician and he takes the time with fans and he can smoke Roth anytime of the year! If you want proof just give Roth a guitar and have him go toe to toe with Sammy and also Roth does not have the voice anymore all he has going for him is his showmanship on stage but so what? Hagar was more talented want more proof Listen to 1.”When its Love”(Can Roth sing this?)2.Dreams(Sammys voice is amazing on this track”3.”Don’t tell me what love can do”.That is all the proof you need and you need to remember that Hagar was taking on 2 brothers all the time a little unfair don’t you think? In defense to Michael Anthony I just want to say he is the nicest guy you will ever meet he took the time to talk to me and sign my jacket and I felt great that he was so sincere even Cherone was really sincere where the brothers were watching the clock.I will be a Van Halen fan for life and have ink on my arm to show it that will never come off but I have been let down like all of you!I wish this reunion well but honestly when will they stop releasing best of albums and make some great new stuff for the fans and least Sammy does this and thinks of the fans!!!!5150,Ou812,F.u.c.k,Bal ance(This is all you need to have to see who the real singer is!!!!!).

Peace Out!
(See you face down in Cabo).

**It’s like if The Who went out on the road in 1989 and in 2000, shutting out John Entwistle who was still alive at the time.**

Not by a long shot - Entwistle was a talented bassist who had his own sound. Not to mention he also wrote some of their songs.

RollingStone67 | 2/17/2007, 12:45 am EST

They are not that old. If they are in shape (which I believe they are) and have the fire to perform this could be great. Only time will tell. I’m looking forward to seeing them. I wish them well.

Hot Licks | 2/17/2007, 12:21 am EST

This reunion should have happened 10 years ago, but Eddie got in a snit at the Grammys, took his guitar and went home. This band could have been one of the biggest in history, but instead it’s a crash-and-burn story of runaway egos. And a 15-year-old on bass?? Who in the hell wants to see that? The kid wasn’t even born when all these songs were originally performed. I’ve loved VH from the start, but this tour is a farce. Pull out the old video footage if you want to relive the classic times when VH had no peer. Sad that it’s come to this…

VanHalenFanMan | 2/16/2007, 11:08 pm EST

Somebody needs to check the facts. The facts is this:
With Sammy every album they released hit #1.
With Dave, they never had a #1 album.
I’ll give ya that. BUT….
When you actually look at the numbers, available on the old VH website and at RIAA.com, you’ll see that David Lee Roth-era VH actually outsold the Sammy era by a 2-1 margin. VHI and 1984 each have sold over 10 million units. None of Sammy’s albums with the band come with 4 million of that total. That should tell you all you need to know about which incarnation is more popular.

real van halen | 2/16/2007, 10:46 pm EST

get real everyone knows this chemistry is good on the stage but off the stage they will piss each other off like usual and one year and this reunion will be gone. Don’t diss Sammy and Mike they are part of Van Halen history longer then Dave, good luck to this reunion, cause it’s gonna need it.

Tom | 2/16/2007, 7:13 pm EST

This is gonna be a great show! I’m 14 years old and i cant wait to see EVH on stage. I saw DLR in 2005 playin some of the old VH material with his back up band (kinda like new GNR) and dlr deff still had it. michael anthony was good and all, but it still will be good without him. sammy killed vh with all his love stuff, i like him as a solo artist and he is talented, but the only person fit to front Van Halen is David Lee Roth

Dan | 2/16/2007, 5:52 pm EST

…and long live new bassman Wolfie. Just remember where his talent for music is coming from…

Dan | 2/16/2007, 5:47 pm EST

Mike Anthony is a great musician no doubt. I just remember nearly every player out there making fun of his “lack of skill” before this reunion. Now all these complaints of his absense?

mike | 2/16/2007, 5:35 pm EST

i hope all 4 die on a tour bus accident. this is a lame excuse for them to make money. i wouldn’y pay 2 cents to see this garbage. i saw the real van halen in 1982 and 1984. it’s over.

ASM | 2/16/2007, 5:12 pm EST

Folks… If you had the misfortune of hearing Dave on his morning show engaging on a few singing tidbits, then you would know that this guy lost whatever little he had. Magazine articles that came out after the short-lived Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony fiasco included Eddie’s comments on how painful and tedious it was to get a single good take out of Mr. Roth. I am very negative about this “reunion” and I wish that aging rockers like Van Halen and Red Hot Chili Peppers to name a few would quit acting like they did 20 years ago. It looks tacky!

no sham | 2/16/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Van Hagar was a poor cover band of Van Halen. Van Halen minus ‘the bass player’ plus Wolfie is still better than that Sammie schlock.

wolfgang | 2/16/2007, 3:36 pm EST

background vocals? we don’t need no stinkin’ background vocals!

Scott | 2/16/2007, 3:24 pm EST

It’s great that Dave and Eddie are back together, but it’s not really Van Halen without Anthony on bass. Say what you will, but as long as the original band members are living, they ALL should be TOGETHER. That’s crap that they’ve shut out Michael. While not a great bassist by any stretch - he’s good and gets the job done - Michael has a great backup singing voice and is a great showman, from a visual standpoint. Plus, most importantly, Anthony was LOYAL all those years. The Van Halen brothers have played with Michael in VH since junior high school. It’s crap to shut him out now. It’s like if The Who went out on the road in 1989 and in 2000, shutting out John Entwistle who was still alive at the time. That’s wrong. If Anthony died, that’s one thing. But he’s still alive and more than capable of playing music. There’s no excuse to leave Anthony out of the reunion. That’s childish on the VH brothers’ part (and Dave, for not speaking up for Michael). I always thought Dave was hard to get along with, but you have to be honest - Van Halen goes through three singers? Maye Alex and Eddie aren’t as laid-back as some people thought. On a final note, I’m sure that Wolfgang has talent - he’s Eddie’s son - but c’mon. He’s 15 years old. How many 15 year olds can play like they’ve gone through so much of life’s experiences - youth, marriage, divorce, parents’ deaths, friends’ deaths? I’m sure Wolfgang is technically good, but you gotta have soul man. You gotta play from the heart, and most teens just don’t play like they’ve been around the block numerous times.

Peace.

Mullet Man | 2/16/2007, 2:58 pm EST

If you dont think the band was better with Dave, you are too young! GO back home junior! Dave is the MAN! DIVER DOWN kicks all the butt of mr lame arsed 3 lock box…

DT1235 | 2/16/2007, 2:08 pm EST

It is amazing how many people like to rip Sammy, but the facts are VH sold more records with Sammy then with Dave. I happen to like both versions of VH but Sammy is without a doubt a more talented musician than Dave. He has had a very successful solo career and continues to rock at nearly 60. I highly recommend if you dislike Sammy, you see him perform live. They guy gives it his all and loves his fans.

Keeper of the Tribal Knowledge | 2/16/2007, 2:01 pm EST

Diamond Dave is back baby! Chaos, Panic and Disorder will ensue and the work here has just begun. These danger loving visionaries are high speed, low drag. Prepare to feel the sting of the Dragon Master.

Some scenes may be too intense for younger viewers!

Dave was railroaded out of his radio gig because he crossed too many lines and told it the way it is. ‘Corporate Elites’ will not tolerate the truth being told.

You was robbed Dave - but, VH fans reap the benefits!

Get the ghetto chariot rolling and make it hurt!

JonWithnal | 2/16/2007, 1:58 pm EST

Those Van Halen boys can’t seem to get along with others. Cheesy shit-rock if you ask me. Retire already.

No matter how bad the VH Reunion proves to be, it will still be 10,000 times better than any of that EMO Shit we’re being force-fed these days. Thank doG for Van Halen & Roth. Even if Michael Anthony isn’t there……ps kick wolfgang to his own band and get michael. life is short ed!

theworldsforgottenboy | 2/16/2007, 12:58 pm EST

I predict Wolfie will be dead by 2008 of a drug overdose or a bad reaction to herpes medication.

Anyone who thinks Van Halen will fly without Anthony deserves the ticket price raping they are going to get …. Hey Van Ailin bros!!!! We know you are reading this so why don’t you post some untinkered audio and video of the tour rehearsals on your website and prove me wrong!!! I know you won’t because it’s all a pale imitation money machine. Hey .. call it the ” Take Your Kid to Work Tour”.

JohnnyDOA | 2/16/2007, 12:36 pm EST

I agree that it isn’t a “true” reunion without Mike but at least it’s something!! It’s a shame that all those years were wasted when they could have been making incredible music. I’m praying that these guys can just get along and do it for the fans who have been more than patient all these years. I must have been one of the other 4 that also listened to Dave’s radio show! I thought it was great! Anyway, quoting a line from one of the greatest VH tunes of all time…..Rock On!

Never wore a Michael Anthony t shirt or hung up a Michael Anthony poster? You are a SQUARE!!! Just ask Duff McKagen!

“Michael Anthony?!? Oh My God!! Is he here!?! Michael Anthony!?! OH MY GOD!!!”
Fuck Yeah!!!

NYC Nate | 2/16/2007, 10:51 am EST

I think that Michael Anthny is one of the most solid bassists there is - he locked into EVERY ONE of Alex’s kick hits - but to say that I won’t go see the show because he’s not there?!? YEAH, RIGHT!!! Diamond Dave and Eddie Van Halen on stage together again?!? I CAN’T WAIT! I was too young the first time around (although I’m 30 now)…

Anthony must be in tour fold!! | 2/16/2007, 10:08 am EST

Van Halen must tour with Anthony. He adds ALL OF THE BACKING VOCALs AND HARMONIZING! Listen to any Roth era Halen song and Anthony is responsible for the beautiful harmonies. Have you heard Crab ass halen sing (ouch). ED/Al don’t fool your self Michael is everybit as responsible for the sound as you are. Please patch it up and give us fans who have supported you since the late 70’s a reunion that is the TRUE VAN HALEN. No Anthony, No tour!!!

-FOR EVERY ALBUM SAMMY HAD 2 GOOD SONGS DAVE HAD LIKE 5
-EVERYONE THINKS SAMMY HAS A GOOD VOICE, HE JUST SCREAMS, THATS NOT CALLED REACHING HIGH NOTES
-DO YOU LIKE GUITAR OR PIANO? EDDIE SHOULD STICK WITH HIS GUITAR

E | 2/16/2007, 9:39 am EST

Dave does not want to sing Sammy’s songs because if people want to hear Journey songs, they’ll probley be on tour, with a scab singer like sammy…….

craigie | 2/16/2007, 9:30 am EST

what was m.a.supposed to do? sit around all those silent years waiting for eddie to come out of his drug alc. closet.why do they hold it against mike for playing music with sammy.eddie did side projects also. I think the vanhalens are hipocrits and need to grow up what they say and do makes no common sense.thats why val.left his ass she wanted a normal life and eddie became abnormal.this is not a reunion without mike.

big T | 2/16/2007, 9:22 am EST

I hope Daves voice is better. I hope they gel like never before. I hope it sounds GREAT! Theres a lot of hope there and no mention of Wolfgang. Ya know what? Mike didnt sell all those stadiums out…Dave and Eddie did. And for allt he Sam fans. Hey man, Sam had 21 years. Its Dave’s turn to turn out some songs and hits and make some coin. Who cares if Dave can sing “Dreams” or hit the high notes like Sam. dave is a performer not a singer. Sam should be proud of what he has done with his career and Dave should also be allowed to be just as proud without being shit on. Sam vs Dave is a long dead and buried discussion that quite frankly bores me. Mike is an important part, but not an equal. VH reunion will do just fine and yes, Mike will be missed. Not to the point where there wont be alot of good sold out shows though.

eddies son is just a boy that should be cutting lawns and dating. not up on stage right now. eddie just wants to bring his kid out on stage. this is not the proper way to do this after 22 years !! its a insult. michael anthony should be in not alittle boy. i dont care how good he can play. thats not the point. if you’re going to do this , do it right. eddie is just a drunken mess, anybody that saw him with sammy in 04 knows this. totally unprofessinal. this could have been the biggest tour selling out everywhere. i’m sure it will still sell well though. i’ve seen vh many times w/ dlr and sammy . but will not be going to this. wolfie hasent even went through puberty yet, he cant sing back up vocals. wait till you read the new interview w/ eddie in hit parader and you will agree

Why Roth doesn’t want to sing VH’s big hits with Sammy? Because Roth, not even in his DREAMS, can hit Sammy’s notes…

beamer | 2/16/2007, 6:46 am EST

anyone stupid enough to say that Mike Anthony is “average at best” and “won’t be missed” obviously knows nothing about music and could not play a kazoo if their lives depended on it.

WE WANT MIKE… WE NEED MIKE…. DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO GET HIM TO THE STAGE!!!!!!!!!!!! C’mon VH…give us ALL a break!!!!

~Zig~ | 2/16/2007, 5:55 am EST

I hope that Diamond Dave and the rest of Van Halen will keep the VH spirit alive when they hit the road.I read that even Sammy Hagar would buy a ticket.Micheal is gone people.Get over it.I do feel for Wolfie though-a 15 year old kid playing in thousands of people each night…that’s real pressure for him although not too many kids can say “I’m in Van Halen”.Kick ass guys. You rock!

King Richard | 2/16/2007, 4:48 am EST

All you “I won’t go unless Michael Anthony is there” people:
It won’t make that much difference.
Anthony seems like a nice guy but his playing is average at best and his backing vocals did add a lot but Van Halen will do fine without him. Dave,Eddie and Alex will be awesome and Wolfgang (if he has his dad’s flair for making music) will add a young man’s edge to a group of older and hopefully wiser men. I for one am glad they’re back.

tpmoore | 2/16/2007, 4:22 am EST

Well, unless you can bring about the coke fueled VH days, then don’t bring it back at all. At the time VH was the answer, the end of the disco, or at least the frontier of something new. VH gave us working class heroes something to work for, even if it was nothing to live for. The music got us through the day. But now, the days are filled with eyeliner, emotional issues and the questioning of, that’s not Rawk n Roll, that’s not being real. To have that “give it all” attitude is the thing of the past, now it’s considered rude, insulting and sue able. So now today, being Rock ‘n’Roll it’s now, be careful or I’ll Rock and Sue. peace

jaco | 2/16/2007, 4:18 am EST

i hope they keep themselves in good shape and just kick ass.
Just don’t expect VH circa. 1981.
These are old men now.
And without Mike, they’ll need some backup singers.
Let the young ones see and hear Rock and Roll.

Jero | 2/16/2007, 4:04 am EST

The best present ever!

Tunefreak | 2/16/2007, 3:54 am EST

Ummm, having seen both the Roth/Hagar incarnations of VH, I have to say that in concert they suck ROYAL ASS, period. Let’s see if Dave can stay away from the cliches he’s over used in the past. And of course, let’s see if Edward can actually be a role model for Wolfie instead of a poster boy for Washed-Up Drunk FORMER Guitar God’s… These guys gotta show me something before I’d walk across my living room to see them again…

Flamma | 2/16/2007, 2:11 am EST

I give the Roth Army all the credit for keeping the Van Halen Spirit alive and well.

Detroit Rock City | 2/16/2007, 1:05 am EST

Im glad Dave is back but why cant they get Mike on bass.I want to see the original line-up.I guess Ill settle with Wolfgang Jr.

Long Live Rock n Roll!

Steven Millan | 2/16/2007, 12:30 am EST

I hope that David Lee Roth’s current status in Van Halen really works out,for Dave needs Van Halen as much as Eddie needs Dave,Wolfie or no Wolfie on bass, since it’s time for “real” rock music to make a comeback and what better combo than Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth to help push rock to that much-needed comeback. And I can easily picture Dave singing such Van Hagar classics as “Good Enough”,”Summer Nights”,”Runaround”,”Humans Being”,”In And Out”,and “Judgment Day” when they’ll be on tour later this coming summer.

stringbender42@yahoo.com | 2/16/2007, 12:06 am EST

eddie dave alex mike the real van halen get ready everyone its the wolf gang fixin to blow up your town. sorry mike you will be missed bro.you will always be part of van halen.in everyones eyes. johnny machinegun jacobs

zmachine | 2/16/2007, 12:05 am EST

Yeah this is the present Wolfie and all but the ticket prices will be outrageous if you can even get them before the brokers snatch ‘em up!

doublek14369,kris | 2/16/2007, 12:02 am EST

thank the rock gods for seeing this tour to completion, dave has been gone too long, and for heaven’s sake, no gary schirone in the lineup, i only hope roth doesn’t crap out and say during a live performance,”I forgot the fucking words!” god bless VAN HALEN!!!!!!

spanish fly | 2/15/2007, 11:38 pm EST

I dont know.. but I have to admit am excited.

I saw some youtube davil lee roth solo gigs and let me tell you , he needs a vocals coach… he can’t sing anymore. I dont know why he is saying his voice is better than ever. I haven theard a good bootleg of him singing well anyway. He is good in the studio… so I hope we hear some new music…. but you have to admit he is fucking hell of an entertainer!!!

stringbender | 2/15/2007, 11:33 pm EST

cowboy you need to go to the country site this aint bull shit here this is van halen the group that made it possible for guys like you to get laid. so upinya

MR. ANDERSON | 2/15/2007, 11:32 pm EST

DIAMONDS are forever baby! It’s too bad we’ve had to settle for cubic zirconium for the last 23 years.

VIVA VAN HALEN!!!

Sammy Hagar | 2/15/2007, 11:29 pm EST

The real Van Halen is back. Van Halen with Roth are the best live band ever! You haven’t been to a concert till you’ve seen Diamond Dave with Eddie Van Halen. Sorry, Mikey, we put up with Sammy all these years, surely Wolfie is more talented then him. Hell, my plumber is more talented than Hagar. Long Live the mighty Van Halen!

Atomic Punk | 2/15/2007, 11:29 pm EST

I want a new album. Need I say more?!

psychomikey | 2/15/2007, 11:22 pm EST

there never should have been a van hagar..big mistake..the van halen brothers, diamond dave’s voice..that was van halen..different bass player, but hey, it’s eddie’s kid..he knows how to play as good as his dad, uncle and grandfather..it’s in his blood, he’s not gonna suck at it..i’m anxious to hear them and would like to hear them put out some new stuff..

Dewey Finn | 2/15/2007, 11:18 pm EST

The Godfathers of American Hard Rock are back!!!

Chuckster | 2/15/2007, 11:11 pm EST

Wow, in nearly every interview Eddie talks about not wanting to rip off the fans. Well, they are releasing ANOTHER Best of album, this 3rd Best of in 9 years. What a rip off.

Eddie is a money whore and an addict. Dave isn’t even a joke anymore, its just sad.

I dont know Wolfie, but God Bless him for having to put up with all this crap.

And Mikey, Michael Anthony the bass player is FULLY one half of Van Halen. Without his Bass guitar, without his vocals, his energy and his interaction with fans, this tour will SUCK. Oh, it will make lots of money, but it will be a rip off.

Eddie, thanks for the 30,000 dollar guitars, and YET ANOTHER Greatest Hits album, you whore.

MR.WHITE | 2/15/2007, 10:57 pm EST

DAVID LEE ROTH IS VAN HALEN…..

DAVE OR THE GRAVE BABY

Torgo | 2/15/2007, 10:46 pm EST

It’s not a true reunion without Mike.

What in the world in Eddie’s and Alex’s egotistical eyes could Mike have done to warrant him being kicked out for good but Dave of all people being invited back in?!

van halen in concet | 2/15/2007, 10:41 pm EST

While Van Halen in there Hey Day with Diamond Dave put out some great records, they were never good in concert anyway. I saw them 3 times in the 80’s and they soounded like a bad copy band.

Take My Money, please... | 2/15/2007, 10:24 pm EST

… just keep Eddie sober for the shows this time, so he won’t play as sloppy as he did at the end of the 2004 tour.

Oh, and will Wolfie be playing keyboard samples of Mike Anthony’s background vocals as well?

franksters | 2/15/2007, 9:53 pm EST

I can’t wait to live the experience once again of Dave And Edward on the same stage, I wish for a brand new album, that way you guys don’t become a nostalgia band, C’mon Dave let’s show all these critics and gaygar fans who gets the real singer of VAN HAlEN, and Ed, give some fuckin exciting licks, fuck the commercial stuff!
VIVA CVH

LIK ROPER | 2/15/2007, 9:47 pm EST

mike hardister | 2/15/2007, 9:43 pm EST

no brown M & M’s

Grandma | 2/15/2007, 9:41 pm EST

Michael Anthony is a major part of Van Halen. Look at who does most of the background vocals. That is a very large part of the sound besides eddie and dave. Something will be missing. Unless Wofie grabs his groin to hit those high notes!

paolo!!! | 2/15/2007, 9:35 pm EST

michael anthony…where are you? cabo wabo?

VH4lyf | 2/15/2007, 9:34 pm EST

Not sure if it’s true, but a local DJ here in New England annouced a tour date of May 30th!! I hope it’s true!! I can’t wait!!! CVH 4-EVER!!

CLASSIC VAN HALEN…Pasadena’s Pride!

Flamma | 2/15/2007, 8:06 pm EST

I think that Wolfgang’s presence can only help inspire Eddie and Roth to record and release new material.

cowboy | 2/15/2007, 8:05 pm EST

*chuckles*

why is that all these “reunion” tour photographs show pictures of bands in their younger, salad days, and not what they really look like?

I can guarantee if you see them on tour you’re gonna see four old men sining about being “Hot For Teacher.” No thanks.

Flamma | 2/15/2007, 8:04 pm EST

Roth n’ F-ing Roll

Bunnie | 2/15/2007, 8:03 pm EST

**Wolfie is the name of Eddie Munster’s doll .. not Van Halen’s bass player**

umm actually that IS the name of their bass player - like it or not. stop living in the past - this is 2007 - not 1984

swapmeetlouie | 2/15/2007, 7:02 pm EST

This will be PG-13 tour with teen wolf. No thanks. Should be the original four.

Ecuador | 2/15/2007, 6:59 pm EST

Yeah Van Halen is back!! Hope they post tour dates soon!!

Mark | 2/15/2007, 6:54 pm EST

This tour, with this setlist, is going to make the Sammy years look like a blip…

Pedro NYC | 2/15/2007, 6:51 pm EST

Diamond Dave lives!!! Dave & Eddie, together again! Should’ve been the greatest American rock band, had it not been for a premature breakup. Even still, they come damn close. Maybe only Aerosmith is bigger. But the VH legend dwarfs all. PARTY TIME!!!

jill hives | 2/15/2007, 6:26 pm EST

likable clown, him.
he can probably still do ninja kicks.
but any clip of him singing i’ve seen from the past few years is truly dreadful.
maybe he hired a voice coach, or he’s simply lying to generate interest in concert tickets.
probably the latter.

theworldsforgottenboy | 2/15/2007, 6:22 pm EST

No Mike Anthony no care…. Van Halen featuring “Wolfie the Wonder Offspring”??? Wolfie is the name of Eddie Munster’s doll .. not Van Halen’s bass player…. but…
I hear Wolfie is at least really trying to get into an authentic headspace by dating McKenzie Philips.

Scotty Checkbooks | 2/15/2007, 6:18 pm EST

Dave - I am pulling for you because I was one of 4 people that listened to your radio show… Please don’t let me see your narly face rescuing me in an ambulance either.. GET BACK TO WHAT YOU WERE BORN TO DO BABY!
Try not to piss the boys off again so we can see more than just a tour!

Warhand................. | 2/15/2007, 6:17 pm EST
