Bonnaroo Gets Better And Better, VH1 Classic Is Retired? Busta’s Rap Sheet Brings Disappointment To College Campus

2/14/07, 8:55 am EST

bonnaroo

  • Bonnaroo 2007 is shaping up to be the best festival event ever. In addition to a super-exciting previously announced performance by the Police, apparently Tool, the White Stripes, and Widespread Panic will also be appearing at the event. The confirmed lineup appears after the jump.
  • Whaaaat!? How will we properly remember our childhoods without VH1 Classic and its constant supply of old Debbie Gibson videos? Gawker is reporting that the entire VH1 Classic department has been fired in the latest rash of MTV axings.
  • Mauresha Spencer, Student Government President at University of Maryland Eastern Shore, is mad as hell and not going to take it anymore. Officials at Spencer’s university cancelled an upcoming student organized performance by Busta Rhymes and Jim Jones after viewing a Maryland state intelligence report on the rappers. “We pay an activity fee every year, and every year it becomes more and more that the administrators try and take from us,” Spencer said. “Now we’re tired of it, not gonna stand anymore. It’s our money and it’s our choice, we believe.”
  • The entire country of India is about to discover the rock. On March 17th, Iron Maiden will play the first gig on Indian soil by any major rock or metal band on the grounds of a palace in Bangalore.

That’s odd. I mean, I love me some My Morning Jacket, but the only time I saw their name mentioned in the article was to say that they were not playing. But apart from that kick-drum, I guess that picture is generic enough to be anybody.

Brian | 2/14/2007, 9:39 am EST

One of these things is not like the other…

Police
Bob Dylan
Tool
The White Stripes
Panic at the Disco

hmmmmm, enjoy all the little emo fucks at bonnaroo. I’d go just to see those little fuckers clash with the hippies

Skyline | 2/14/2007, 9:58 am EST

Rolling Stone just wanted to announce that Panic At The Disco will be there.

They want them to succeed soooooo bad.

OH, and great reporting as usual Goodman.

Howard K. Stern | 2/14/2007, 10:43 am EST

That’s totally My Morning Jacket in the picture. Notice the kickdrum with the Z album art? Don’t tease, RS.

Timroc | 2/14/2007, 10:44 am EST

How about this? Everyone recall Pink Floyd closing out Live 8 in London July of 2005, and Gilmore’s statement that they may look at other “one off” events in the future? Well…how about Bonaroo? There is always Cochella too. Just a thought.

Lobsters | 2/14/2007, 10:51 am EST

” . . . latest rash of MTV axings”
I’d hate to be in the shoes of the poor fool who agreed to do “I’m From Rolling Stone”. Whoa!

MMW | 2/14/2007, 11:29 am EST

and that is jim james’s fro.

Brian | 2/14/2007, 11:55 am EST

Bonnaroo? Best festival event ever? The coachella lineup is so much better.

Wolvaire | 2/14/2007, 11:56 am EST

Oh yeah, it’s plain to MMJ fans that the picture is indeed MMJ, but I think non-fans wouldn’t be able to identify them from a kick-drum and a ‘fro.

So not cool........... | 2/14/2007, 2:11 pm EST

BRIAN, LOLOLOL, BEST POST OF THE FUCKIN YEAR, THANKYOU. : )

St. Robinson | 2/14/2007, 2:17 pm EST

Um, Dylan is not playing at Bonnaroo, that was just a rumor. And as far as Panic at the Disco…are you idiots confusing them with WIDESPREAD PANIC just because they each have the word panic in their names?? Now I hate PATD as much as any other self-respecting music fan but come on, a bad band is no excuse to be stupid. Also, I like Tool, but I really don’t think they “fit” with The Police, Dylan, or The White Stripes….I think many Tool fans would agree.

And Pink Floyd at Bonnaroo would probably be the greatest thing ever. Like for real. Like if I saw it, I’d commit suicide afterwards, knowing it would never be better.

nick | 2/14/2007, 2:59 pm EST

To be fair MMJ played Bonnaroo last year and I guess that is stock photo from Bonnaroo that happens to be MMJ.

What isn’t fair is that RS deleted my earlier comment.

Dwayne Brownstein | 2/14/2007, 4:16 pm EST

Why weren’t Kuff and the Buttheads invited??

Ashleigh | 2/14/2007, 4:17 pm EST

Oh no. I love Vh1 Classics. Its the last video channel that showed good music.

vemrion | 2/14/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Maiden Rules!!

Up the Irons

radiochild | 2/14/2007, 5:06 pm EST

Dont ever confuse panic at the disco with Widespread panic. widespread panic are a billion times better than panic at the disco they fucking suck

everybody SHADDUP! | 2/14/2007, 5:50 pm EST

All hail the Flaming Lips!

everybody SHADDUP! | 2/14/2007, 5:51 pm EST

Sir Vivor | 2/14/2007, 7:03 pm EST

I work at VH1 and know that VH1 Classic is not going anywhere. Production was brought inside the VH1 mothership. The channel will continue to air.

Steve Holt! | 2/17/2007, 12:18 am EST

Please don’t ever confuse Widespread Panic with those hacks, Panic @ The Disco. It’s insulting to any music fans and people over 12 years old. I came here just to see the trainwreck that is Rolling Stone.

bizco17 | 3/2/2007, 6:49 pm EST

Floyd will NOT be at bonnaroo…Roger Waters website has him in Cali on the 13th, 15th and the 16th…so I really doubt it….but I’m hoping anyways!
