- Phil Spector’s upcoming murder trial may be televised. Larry Paul Fidler, the judge in charge of the trial (which starts March 7th in L.A.) apparently said earlier this week that he is in favor of televising the proceedings. “This is a trial of public interest. I always have a problem with commentators telling people what is going on rather than letting the public see the trial for themselves. I’m a firm believer in having the public see it.” Would you watch Spector’s trial on TV?
- Sharon Osbourne has commented further on the think behind her and Ozzy’s decision to make this year’s Ozzfest free. “They want $300,000 plus to do an hour’s work onstage,” Osbourne said of the band’s she’s routinely booked for Ozzfest. “I’m just not doing it. Last year nearly destroyed us, paying, paying, paying, and we just can’t do it again. There has to be another way to do it. If you get the sponsors that believe in you and you get new great cutting-edge bands that just want an audience, we’ll give them the audience and we’ll let everyone in free.” This whole plan is actually really innovative. Sharon = awesome.
- Ne-Yo owes some of his songwriting success to his mom and the 400 other female family members he grew up with, the R&B star explains. In addition to working on a new album of his own, Ne-Yo is busy writing songs for both Whitney Houston and Britney Spears and says that while he no one really understands women, he “may have a little more insight than the average guy.”
- Sirius will launch a radio station almost fully devoted to Frank Sinatra. Sinatra’s daughter, Nancy, will host a regular weekly show on the station and allow them access to more than 1,700 songs, radio interviews and live performances by her dad.
- While nothing has been confirmed re: Michael Jackson’s much-gossiped-about comeback, now the pop star, who has moved to Vegas, is reportedly working with Pop Idol mastermind Simon Fuller and Kenny Ortega, the High School Musical guy. That’s a lot of lowest-common-denominator loving marketing power. We’re worried.
