Exclusive Van Halen News: It’s Official

2/2/07, 5:49 pm EST

Van HalenWe just received an exclusive press release from the Van Halen camp with the headline VAN HALEN IS BACK. We take this as official confirmation of what we already suspected, that the classic Eddie/Alex/Roth lineup is indeed back and ready to play. According to the press release (the full text of which appears after the jump) this summer the band will play forty shows with David Lee Roth on vocals alongside Eddie and Alex Van Halen and new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen.

“I am having a blast playing songs we wrote with Dave and I can’t wait to get on stage and get it on with and for the fans!” Eddie enthused when asked about his feelings on the reunion tour.

Rock. On.

Sorry Ed – the “core” of what made Van Halen also included the background and harmony vocals of Michael Anthony.

This is no TRUE reunion, unless Anthony is included.

And for edward to still be pissed because Mike is still friends with Sammy is stupid and incredibly petty.

It’s a hell of a lota pressure to put on a 15 year old kid, to go out there and play in front of a VH crowd and expect him to be anything CLOSE to the pro that Michael Anthony was/is.

I wish them luck – but this “reunion” is a bit flat to me.

Isaac | 2/2/2007, 6:28 pm EST

Forget it. There’s no way these egomaniacs will even make it to summer. The only member of the band who didn’t seem to walk around with a massive chip on his shoulder just got thrown out for being friends with Sammy Hagar.

Hey, here’s a thought. The Other Half should counter by touring with a reunited Extreme. Now that I would pay to see.

jay | 2/2/2007, 6:39 pm EST

a 15 year old on bass? hope dave will get back into the blow.

Hands | 2/2/2007, 6:48 pm EST

I think Eddie is the all time greatest guitarist in rock. I liked the Dave years, loved the Sammy years, but someone ought to remind Eddie that time is not on his side. This early senility turned away two good, down to earth people in Sam and Mikey. Yeah, I look forward to the tour and maybe some new music, but what is it about 60’s and 70’s groups and ego?

Matt | 2/2/2007, 6:50 pm EST

While it’s true that this isn’t really the “true” Van Halen without Mikey, this is however extremely exciting. I have never seen Dave live on stage with Eddie and I’ve been a die-hard fan since I was 12. This will be unbelievable. And having Wolfie in the band now can do nothing but energize these guys. Give it a chance!. After what they have done for Rock and roll, don’t they deserve it? If you don’t like it, for God sakes don’t go then so I don’t have to hear your crap. But you better believe this will be a sold out tour. Van Halen 4.0 lives!

Mr. Me | 2/2/2007, 6:58 pm EST

This is a pass on it summer tour. W/O Mr. Jack Daniels on bass…it isn’t the same. I hope Eddie auditioned all the high school bass players in his area to get the best one.

Sean | 2/2/2007, 7:04 pm EST

Early Van Halen was great, but Sam made it better. since the last tour with Sam, did’nt make much money, I guess they thought with Dave singing, they would pack in the arenas. I get a sense that this all for monetary reasons. I am sure this tour will fail, because you can’t have oversized egos sharing the stage. I would rather spend my money seeing Sammy playing all the old hits by himself

lik roper | 2/2/2007, 7:05 pm EST

might as well jump…

DEADBEARS | 2/2/2007, 7:07 pm EST

I HAVE WAITED YEEEARS 4 THIS!VH RULES. ILL SPEND MY HARD EARNED MONEY 2 ROCK WITH THEM AGAIN. VAN HALEN RULES,VAN HAGAR DROOLS!!!

jill hives | 2/2/2007, 7:11 pm EST

screw van halen – when’s someone gonna kick down some genesis tour dates?

Dennis | 2/2/2007, 7:14 pm EST

Being a great guitar player does not excuse being a crappy person. Eddie’s dissing of Michael Anthony, by paying him less during their last tour with Sammy and now excluding him from this tour with Dave, is BS and only further proves Eddie ain’t that cool.

tanya kristine | 2/2/2007, 7:25 pm EST

a 15 year old going on tour? Where’s Valerie!

I’m afraid Eddie might not have what it takes anymore…he looks pretty frail. or is that drunk? i can’t tell anymore…

lik roper | 2/2/2007, 7:26 pm EST

boy! that jill hives is a mighty spicy gal!

lik roper | 2/2/2007, 7:27 pm EST

I cant drive 55 with Dave! | 2/2/2007, 7:32 pm EST

Whatever! I guess it is great if your are a die hard VH fan. But, it is 2007 and not 1984.
To even think about Dave wearing spandex and doing his splits in the air- oh that’s right if he breaks his hip he will know what to do! By the way if they suck, I don’t want to hear all the cry babies on how much they spent on tickets, serves you right!

Doug Cummings | 2/2/2007, 7:35 pm EST

Thanks to this press release, I now have the money to pay for my tickets to the Police Reunion Tour!!

Jeff | 2/2/2007, 7:37 pm EST

Let’s hope Eddie doesn’t get lung cancer between now and Summer…for his kid’s sake and all…

If you’re a father, survive tongue cancer and continue to chain smoke and booze every day, even if cigs didn’t cause the tongue cancer, you are a bad, selfish person. Even if you’re the best rock guitar player on the planet. Period.

ken vail jr. | 2/2/2007, 7:38 pm EST

it’ll still be a good time…it doesn’t mean eddie’s kid won’t be any good just cause he’s young…though aren’t van halen overdue for a new lp by now?

Dave Stewart | 2/2/2007, 7:38 pm EST

Dave is a sell-out and Alex is a Yes-Man.

I’ve always loved Van Halen since i was a little kid, and even with Eddie’s son Wolfgang on bass I dont think it will all to bad. Yes they all look like shit, but Dave’s voice isnt all to bad yet and Eddie should still be alive by then (i hope). They arent going to be what they used to, thats for sure, but imo it should still make for a fun show.

www.myspace.com/midstoflions | 2/2/2007, 7:48 pm EST

No Mike Anthony, no Van Halen.
Just shows how much of a jerk Eddie can be to have a beef with Michael Anthony. I wonder if Eddie hates Christmas as well. Bring back Mike, then you’ll have my attention.

Heatmiser | 2/2/2007, 7:54 pm EST

Truely a cash and grab tour. I don’t get how you can call it the core when Mike is not playing on bass…. Dave must be broke and desperate for him to share a stage w/ a 15 yr old kid. Maybe that having Wolfgang in the band will give Ed more will to or should I say stomach to play with Dave everynight? ROCK ON THE OTHER HALF OR CHICKENFOOT!!!! ROCK ON!!!!!

mimi | 2/2/2007, 7:54 pm EST

glad to see some negative comments so there will be enough tickets for true fans..sorry you all will miss this

“No Mike Anthony, no Van Halen.”

Sorry, but he really contributed nothing to VH and wasnt that great of a player – so good riddance.

RIPPER | 2/2/2007, 8:29 pm EST

This is what we’ve all waited for; and Wolfgang makes it a true Roth/VH collaboration. I think we can all look forward to hear father, son, and uncle, led by the greatest frontman in rock history.

Ok,I don’t if many comprehend what it means to place Wolfgang on bass.It gives VH youngblood and teenage meanstreet attitude back in the band. The new songs that they had released with Hagar was so dated. With Wolfie it will be in the NOW…Sorry but Micheal is like a tramp goes back and forth show it shall be,and so it is written…Everybody get ready to Vanhalenized…Wolfgang will but you na sayer on your ASSES….
ROCK ON
Welcome back Diamond Dave

How do you spell Relief?

Mike is a BAdASS bass player, just listen to ANY F’ing VH record. His rock-solid grooves made it possible for Ed to do his thing and now, he gets the shaft on the reunion tour. Totally pisses me off!!!

pogo | 2/2/2007, 10:01 pm EST

Mike was a fair bass player He did have a great voice

Rod | 2/2/2007, 10:08 pm EST

“The classic Eddie/Alex/Roth lineup.”

Freaking PLEASE. Mike Anthony was part of the classic lineup, and his harmonies and solid bass were a signature of the Van Halen sound.

Besides, I give these guys about four gigs before Eddie throws a hissy fit over something and cancels the tour.

Mark | 2/2/2007, 10:10 pm EST

I think this so called vh reunion is not a reuion because Michael Anthony is not included. Dave better know all the words to all the vh songs because mike will not be there to help him out when he misses a line in the song.
Mike is the harmony and background vocals for vh and no one else can come close to what he can do. Eddies son wolfgang might be a fairly good bass palyer ? Who knows? We will have to wait and see. I ‘m sure the group is going to sound different with ed and wolfgang on background vocals. Sammy is the better singer between Sammy and Dave. I think this tour will only last maybe 15-20 shows before there is some ego problems between ed and dave. Give it time something will happen . Ed is hard person to Please.

Mandela | 2/2/2007, 10:25 pm EST

okay bummed that micahel isnt going to be on stage because his vocals MADE the harmonies, but honestly,1what place has good enough acoustics to make this point matter 2 who fucking cares, its been nearly a quarter century and fucking David Lee Roth is finally on stage w/ Eddy again. Now where are the tour dates?

Paul | 2/2/2007, 10:30 pm EST

Made my day…I graduated when they split up. My wife said, “they are old.” But so are we!!!! Going make it a weekend away. And remember if it is to loud your to old!!!!!

Get real he was so sorry that Eddie went into the studio with his brother and laid all the tracks down for 1984 except for the vocals, Michael was nothing more than a session player

DedicatedHalenFan | 2/2/2007, 10:48 pm EST

I have been a Seriously dedicated Van Halen fan since the days of my decadent youth. Hoping and dreaming of what I would call the most beyond, over due tour in our lifetime also I have had the pleasure of seeing them on tour since the 1980 invasion of Cobo Hall here in Detroit,MI. This has got to be one of the most selfish take it or leave it situations one could ever witness, Dave Lee Roth, Michael Anthony, Edward and Alex Van Halen are Van Halen Period. This Reunion makes me sick. Millions of People had been loyally awaiting the news of an “Original Van Halen Reunion”, not some sad, re incarceration, back out Dave and hold out for Mikey, E Gads man grow a set, what happened to the flamboyant front man the everyone wanted to be. BOTTOM LINE NO – MIKEY- NO TOUR, don’t be sellout guys as you owe it to your FANS who made you what you are a chance to see the real Mammoth, rat salad, gods who became Van Halen on stage. Nothing personal to Wolfgang, but Dammit man this is Van Halen not some cheese wiz band just looking to make a buck, hmmn, or is it, I guess we shall see this summer. HOW SAD. Matt in Michigan. L.h.s.

Mike27 | 2/2/2007, 10:49 pm EST

Sammy might be a technically better singer, but Roth is def better for the band.

ATOMIC PUNK | 2/2/2007, 10:54 pm EST

It is what it is, the only thing is none of us really know what it is yet.If they pull it off and it’s a success everyone will say I told you so and if it fails miserably everyone will say I told you so. Then regardless everyone will be right and life as we know it can continue uninterrupted.I’m pretty sure Ed would not sacrifice his only son if he thought Wolfie couldn’t handle it.

fair warning | 2/2/2007, 11:03 pm EST

There are obvious facts here. Fact 1: Dave is broke. Fact 2: Ed has known for sometime that Dave is broke. Fact3: Ed has finally decided that Dave has humiliated himself enough to his satisfaction with the fact that he cannot legally stop Dave’s disgracing his band’s name, has allowed him to come groveling back for this. Fact 4: This is ed’s redemption for fact 1,2, & 3. Fact 5: Ed can finally complete his wish that he and his brother now own dave. And finaly Fact 6: In 23 years Mikey Anthony will not have to beg for Wolfy’s forgivness on behalf of his decrepid and dismantled father.

Tammy | 2/2/2007, 11:07 pm EST

lame without micheal. A 15 year old is not Van Halen. Sorry.

I Loved The Old Van Halen | 2/2/2007, 11:18 pm EST

All of you that have positive comments regarding the recent addition of Roth to Van Halen are either stoned or retarded. Van Halen was good with Roth in the beginning, ok with Hagar, and now are obviously going to suck going back to Roth. Why? All of this is just a ploy for Eddie to make more money and Roth to quit is job as janitor at an elementary school.

ATOMIC PUNK | 2/2/2007, 11:20 pm EST

I do miss Mikey, but the 15 year old is Van Halen, Wolfgang to be exact.Sorry HE HE couldn’t help it just fun’in with it.I hope the kid can offer us up something like his old man did back in the day.Maybe his voice hasn’t changed yet and he can hit the notes that Mike hit.I’m trying to look on the bright side.Ticket prices may make my glass half empty however.

rush rocks! | 2/2/2007, 11:22 pm EST

Although it’s always good to see a band reunite, there is no way that Wolfgang is going to be able to play all 40 shows. Maybe when Wolfgang breaks down in the middle of the tour, they can give Michael Anthony a call.

in a simple rhyme | 2/3/2007, 12:00 am EST

What we won’t see is is Wolfie playing the Jack Daniel’s bass, nor chugging a bottle down before his solo, although it is VH with Dave so ya never know! I haven’t heard Nickelodeon being a sponsor for the tour thus far. THIS WILL BE A TRAIN WRECK!

ATOMIC PUNK | 2/3/2007, 12:08 am EST

As far as who breaks down I’ll put my money on a 15 year old before I would a 50 something and who knows Eds dad may have actually been the one who showed Ed how to get rid of those butterflies before a show, I do believe I read that once.

ATOMIC PUNK | 2/3/2007, 12:10 am EST

You cared enough to let us know.

loss a control loss a control | 2/3/2007, 12:16 am EST

Anthony’s harmony will be dubbed! Ed may think his bass can be replaced, but his voice? The dominoes continue to fall.

SlipKid | 2/3/2007, 12:22 am EST

I am a huge VH fan and think Mike is essential to the music. Classic Vh is best. Sammy has a better voice but he brought cheesy lyrics to songs. He fits better in a club in Mexico rehashing Van hagar. Plus, the news with Michael is he chose to be in a band with Sammy. The Vh tour in 2004 was good and I thought Eddie was in good form…Lets give a toast for a great rock band and the ass they are going to kick!!!!

indifferent | 2/3/2007, 12:23 am EST

after listening to eddie’s other-worldly rant on the howard stern show a few months ago, i’m not so sure that dave was the only one to blame for the years of animosity. the man is an egocentric whacko, and he actually thinks he has a cure for cancer. anyhoo, stern kept pestering him about a possible reunion, and eddie alluded to the fact that his son would be involved, but laid a pretty thick barrage of insults michael anthony, essentially saying he had less against dave or sammy. the drama isn’t worth my money this time around. i’d rather hold out for a smiths reunion.

Could This Be Magic? | 2/3/2007, 12:35 am EST

Ed’s issue(s) with Dave could perhaps now be at a significant turning point. The burn Ed has with Sam is still festering and based on Ed’s history, being the resentfull little fella he is, he has perhaps built that bridge with Dave – finally. In 20 some odd years, he could potentialy strike it rich again with Sam.

I was watching some old video last night when ed & alex were on mtv & ed was talking about sam’s work ethic…ed said… “his work ethic sucks”… what a crock…i’m a big fan of van halen but i think he is full of crap & he has indeed gone crazy… he has apparently become such a control freek it is unbefuckinglievable… how much music has ed produced since he got rid of sam… & by the way… did anyone see any of the 2004 reunion tour… he was so drunk, or whatever he was on, he couldn’t play… give me a break… he sucked… & this is coming from a huge fan… i just think he needs 2 get his head out of his ass & lay off the sauce… & as far as mike goes… he has been there since the beginning… what a bunch of shit from the vh brothers 2 have no more respect for him than what they do… which seems 2 be none… if ed can’t get along with sam, then fine… i love sammy… but… mikey deserves better than what ed has given…

-K- | 2/3/2007, 3:18 am EST

I think it’s great to see David and Eddie bury the hatchet and get Van Halen back together.Yeah-Micheal Anthony will be missed but he’s playing with Sammy Hagar so it’s not like he’s not doing anything.I don’t care if David or Sammy is singing with them-as long as they don’t get Gary Charone. That was the worst mistake Van Halen ever had.

“Who care. This WOULD have matter 10 years ago.

You’re not serious, right?

You actually think that disposable schlock is anywhere near the level of Van Halen?

Wow… that’s… that’s some serious delusion. That’s like comparing a child’s finger painting to the Sistine Chapel.

No.Seriously. | 2/3/2007, 4:11 am EST

Without Anthony’s harmonies, it’s gonna sound like shit. At hte last concert, when Eddie did his solo, his fat, zitty kid could barley play barre chords, so I don’t see how he’s gonna “shred”. But I will be there.

D.O.A. | 2/3/2007, 8:15 am EST

Why would Dave back out for Mikey? Dave never did like him on bass, to begin with..

loudei | 2/3/2007, 8:59 am EST

I guess Wolfie told his daddy the Vna HAgar years sucked and that the fans want to see the real deal and hear the songs… And i guess Daddy wants to play with his kid and shoot his musical career in in the arm. Who are we to critize that? Its their band, and I don’t think Alex, Eddie or even David would walk onstage if the kid didnt have the chops… the rehearsals went awesome, the magic is there…so we can all just piss off. Background vocals? They are plenty of hot chicks out there that would make a great addition onstage that can things… tall leggy singers , with big tits.

Mike was always sucking Sams pecker, he should remember which hand feed him. simple as that. Mike anthony is one rich mother fucker, getting songwriter credits for everything Eddie wrote… now thats good treatment.

Becca | 2/3/2007, 9:16 am EST

If you love Eddie Van Halen, you’ll go to this show. You can be upset for whatever reasons but if you love Ed’s playing you’ll go. If you’re into Van Halen because Eddie Van Halen’s work makes you happy, then go. You can’t expect anything from him, you can’t be mad over the past or the lack of new material. Just submit to the process and hope there he’ll be healthy and playing well.

Dennis | 2/3/2007, 9:55 am EST

It’s great that Van Halen is going back on Tour with Dave. But there is still a missing piece to the line-up. And that’s Mark. I hope Wolfgang can pick up the slack or perhaps be better. Nothing beats the actual thing. I’ll be rooting for you Wolfgang!

THIS FROM 1996 interview with Mike Anthony

I might as well do the Introduction for this Interview in English too, because there was not very much Dutch in the conversation I had with Mike on August 6, either. As usual he was very kind and helpful So he made things clear about the current situation especially for us, the fans who can’t believe what happened…

Michel: What’s happening over there?

Mike: Oh, there’s so much happening, you wouldn’t believe. You know, Sammy’s not in the band…

Michel: How come?

Mike: What it came down to is that he doesn’t want to work. We were working on the music for the Twister-movie and he was in Hawaii at that time and he wanted us to do the music and then send him the tape. We said “No, we should all be in the studio together because we’re a band”. And that’s how we always did it, so…. (Then Mike had to take care for his daughter for a few seconds). We finally got him to get back to work on the songs. He only came in for two days. So we had to try to get all the lyrics and vocals done in two days. Which was kind of hard. And he flew home. (Sammy lives on Hawaii – VH5150). Simply: he didn’t want to work. He finally admitted to Ed that he was frustrated and he wanted to do his own thing. When he quit the band he was in Hawaii and he came back to work on some new material. I think he was looking for a new recording contract, because when he left our band, Warner Brothers Records dropped him from the label. He was telling everybody that we were talking to David Lee Roth behind his back, which we weren’t…. He started to attack the band. He is basically lying. He wants everybody to have sympathy for him. Thinking we kicked him out. And that’s not the case at all.

Michel: It’s a strange situation and hard to choose. I feel sympathy for Sam as well.

Mike: I’m sad about it, too. Unfortunately, it’s the same thing when David Lee Roth quit. We got a feeling that Sammy was going to want to retire, I guess you could say. Plain and simple: he just didn’t want to work. Put the time in. Halfway through the project for the Twister-movie he said that he didn’t want to do it. Eddie said: “Well, if you didn’t want to do it, you should have just told us.” Then maybe we just had done some music.

Michel: Later I read that Sammy was looking forward to record a new Van Halen album. And now this, that’s very strange.

Mike: I think it’s funny too, because we were going to do the first of a Best Of album. We probably will put out some more, too. But he didn’t wanna do that. He has told everybody that when a band puts out a Best Of-album, their career is ending. If you look at it, Sammy has put some Best Of-albums himself I don’t understand why he doesn’t wanna do it with Van Halen. I think he was a little intimidated, being on the same album with songs with Roth. I think he was always a little intimidated by that. People always want us to do a lot of the older material. And he didn’t wanna do it.

Michel: That’s right. But why do you work with Dave again? That’s weird!

Mike: It is. Actually, when all this was going on with Sammy, David called Ed because he just wanted to know what songs we were going to release.

Michel: He didn’t know about Sammy…

Mike: Right. He didn’t know that we had problems with Sammy. He just called because he wanted to know what songs we were using of the old Van Halen on this Best Of-album. And then when everything happened with Sammy, he wanted to meet the band. Actually Eddie suggested… he said “Wouldn’t it be something if we worked up a song or two, new ones with Dave’? That will surprise all the Van Halen fans” We got together. We had a meeting with Dave. It’s funny because he was very humble. He hasn’t got a record contract now. He admitted that he has made big mistakes and that he did the wrong thing. He admitted that he has a very big ego. Hopefully he’s better now. But he realized that after leaving Van Halen he couldn’t do anything else. That it always got compared to Van Halen. So actually yesterday (August 5) we just finished recording two new songs with him. All I can tell you right now is that people are going to be very surprised by what they hear.

Michel: I’m sure.

Mike: Because the songs turned out great.

Michel: How do you feel about this situation personally? In the press the band always hated David Lee Roth. And now all of a sudden you’re working with the guy!

Mike: Yeah, I know. A lot of people were surprised by that. Actually I was the last person in the band to accept the fact that this would happen. Eddie was the one that wanted to do it. He met with Dave two or three times. And that last time, I called over there and I talked to Dave. It was the first time I talked to him in eleven years.

Michel: You didn’t, in all those years?

Mike: Oh no… I told them I didn’t want to work with Dave and I wouldn’t wanna tour with him. But I’m in Van Halen and Eddie and Alex are my brothers. And if they wanted to do it I would do it, too…. It was kind of hard at first because musically we’re pretty much evolved a lot more than Dave did. But we have a producer by the name of Glen Ballard and he worked on new songs with us. And all I got- to say is that this guy is the best producer we’ve ever worked with. He’s the most normal person. He doesn’t have an ego like a lot of producers do. And when we’re going to do our next studio record, he probably will produce it for us.

Michel: He also did the Alanis Morissette-album, right?

Mike: Yes. And he did the latest Aerosmith, but I don’t even know if that will ever come out. Glen wasn’t going to be able to do this with us because he was mixing Aerosmith. But they got some problems, so he quit their project to do us. Which was great because we wanted to work with him. I think these two songs turned out great. We’re taking this a small step at a time. Now everybody wants the reunion tour.

EDDIE IS A DICK!! | 2/3/2007, 10:24 am EST

Give me a break! Eddie is a head-case! I dont want to see his son play bas, and it is insulting to all the VH fan’s who have been waiting for year’s for a reunion. Michael Anthony WE MISS YA!! I hope Eddie fall’s on his wrist at the first show, hitting his first note! IRON MAIDEN RULES!!!!!!

EDDIE IS A DICK!! | 2/3/2007, 10:26 am EST

….will dave have to glue his hairpiece on when he does his jumps, and kicks?

EDDIE IS A DICK!! | 2/3/2007, 10:37 am EST

Instead of a hip replacement, maybe they should of replaced Edwards brain.

Conrad | 2/3/2007, 10:58 am EST

I am so psyched about this. Sure if michael was on bass it would be the ultimate. But if he likes sammy hagar he needs to get HIS head examined. Sammy Hagar sucks and anyone who likes him more than Roth is Foolish. Van Halen stopped rocking after Roth left, and started doing synth-pop!

Jake Burns | 2/3/2007, 11:19 am EST

WHO CARES ABOUT THIS CRAP?

lik roper | 2/3/2007, 11:46 am EST

eddie is just making michael pay for his recent lack of loyalty, as part of the reason VH is so good is because they keep it all within house by saving their creative energies for the band instead of diluting them over 50 side projects…

but! something must be said for his many years of VH loyalty; in the end i believe that will work in his favor…

and besides; you can’t blame michael for getting a wandering ear, ’cause VH has been sort of sputtering lately…i saw VH at the SJ shark tank, oh i’de say about a year or so ago – and i sensed eddie was going through the motions, as they were not as rock-solid air-tight as the 5150 or F.U.C.K. tours, for instance…

i predict michael will be back in there sooner or later, but for now wolfgang will get the thrill of his young life, and likely more poontang than he can shake his stick at…

Lori | 2/3/2007, 12:10 pm EST

Eddie is still Eddie and to hear him play live is a good thing. If you knew Edward Van Halen and Alex Van Halen were coming to your town to play would you not go just because Michael Anthony wasn’t there?

They will not sound good. Dave is far cry from his former self and Michael Anthony’s voice was a major part of the Van Halen sound. What will all those background vocal parts sound like without him?

schockyourself | 2/3/2007, 2:53 pm EST

Ah now summertime’s here babe, need somethin’ to keep you cool
Better look out now though, Dave’s got somethin’ for you

Matthew | 2/3/2007, 3:49 pm EST

I always felt Michael Anthony was hardly even needed in Van Halen. He is mediocre at best. Often drowned out by Eddie. Having said that, its not really Van Halen without him. And David Lee Roth isn’t really David Lee Roth anymore. Van Halen on ice maybe.

Anonymous | 2/3/2007, 3:49 pm EST

Why are so many people being so negative about the VH reunion? I’m only 17 and I never got to see them play, so for me this is huge news. So what if Michael Anthony isn’t there. He’s doing his own thing. I’m going to see them play (although I only really want to see Eddie), and if they suck, then they suck, but if not, it will be something that I will never forget. Give them a shot before shooting them down.

I’ve been a vh fan for a long time. Not sure if this thing is gonna work. Dave is not that good of a singer anymore. Eddie is a miserable son of a bitch. Wolfgang in the band? Give me a frigin break. Mike did a great job as bassist and background singer. I honestly don’t think they will finish the 40 tour dates. It really does not add up…vh time has past.

mr. levi | 2/3/2007, 6:32 pm EST

I just spend the whole day listening to the bass on all VH records including Van Hagar and shit… No wonder Wolfie is in the band. You can really hear the bass LOL Eddie is too loud.

Just get a couple of chiks to sing behind them, a couple of black chicks with big booties …

KLiffee | 2/3/2007, 9:07 pm EST

God, I’m sick of you bastards saying VHs time has passed. Has BB King’s time passed? Has Bruce Springsteen’s time passed? I don’t think so. But I am sickened that they aren’t including Michael Anthony. Let Wolfgang start his own band and not ruin a legacy.

RICHARD LOSIER OF MIRAMICHI | 2/3/2007, 9:17 pm EST

CJDavidson | 2/3/2007, 11:03 pm EST

I heard Wolfie play guitar on the 2004 tour, and he was not bad. He sounded good and never missed a note. Not one. Now, two years later, I bet he kicks the ass of any bar-band bassist, and probably those of many professionals.

I do not for a second believe he can yet fit Michael Anthony’s shoes, but I bet he can convincingly bring it.

I do not expect to attend this tour. I am stubborn Anthony Fan, but for all those who do, I hope it’s an awesome party!

Ecuador | 2/4/2007, 12:09 am EST

Yes!! They´re back!! Again, wait & see Wolfie!! Is gonna be amazing!!!

Slipkid | 2/4/2007, 12:17 am EST

Some of you need to get a life. This reunion is big! Especially given the suck-ass state of rock right now. Many of us werent old enough to attend the “original VH” back when they dominated rock. No need to right off this kind of talent because of age. I dont see anyone knockin Ozzy Osbourne, The Rolling Stones, Rob Halford, Cream, or The Who just to new a few artists who are touring and have at least 12 to 15 years on Dave and the boys. Eddie can smoke any guitarist today and I wouldnt bet against Dave since his voice has improved and he hasnt lost any of his athletic bravado. Michael Anthony not being involved is a bummer but come on he and Sammy are brothers…enough said. If The Who and the Stones can still rock….VH will bring the thunder….2004 was good but Sammy’s songs slow things down and get sappy…dont expect that this time around and some youthful energy…

So This is Love | 2/4/2007, 12:54 am EST

Bill Wyman quit the Stones and they continued on. He was also an essencial part of the rythm section. God I miss Bill….

Dr. Ralph | 2/4/2007, 11:52 am EST

I’ve probably seen Van Halen twenty or so times starting at the University of Cincinnati and the last time at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville when the Poundcake album came out and it sounded like Eddie was playing a drill! I have never been impressed with the bass performances of Mikey, but he is the most likable one in the group. Maybe Eddie and David Lee will get along now that Valerie is out of the picture. She really drove a wedge in the band. How can you party and tour if you’re married? And how is touring with your son going to work out? I guess we’ll wait and see.

fuckslut | 2/4/2007, 12:19 pm EST

i was excited at first because van halen kind of looks like robbie robertson, and RS referred to them as ‘The Band’, either way you are getting an overpriced ticket for a band that is gonna sound like a rusting woodchipper. Quit the Hagar bashing- he makes a mean tequiza.

rockin | 2/4/2007, 1:48 pm EST

you all should take a history lesson in rock if you think this is a bad tour. Motley Crue who inherited the rock kings title from Van Halen in the early 80’s has already had a return tour that rocked, and so have many other bands. I saw VH on the 1984 tour at Freedom Hall in Louisville, KY and it was righteous. I met Diamond Dave on tour in Germany a few years later after he did a gig for the troops returning from the first Gulf War. He is a patriot for being one of the few acts not to pull out of touring then. I will give them their due since I grew up on their music. Hell I saw the Who in 1982 which was a reunion tour, and with John Entwistle and Keith Moon now dead is their current tour any less the Who? Maybe it is a bit less, but still is good music and like VH will be a great party.

Martin | 2/4/2007, 2:01 pm EST

The Case For Aging Musicians.

RUSH formed in ‘68. Lee, Lifeson and Peart are about the same age as the VH “boys” (mid-50’s) but are fitter; technically better musicians and are as tight and dynamic a unit as ever. They still play to packed houses and continue to produce albums every few years.

Their secret ? They didn’t let booze, drugs and egos ruin their lives; they continue to grow and expand their abilities and remain good mates to this day (not bitter and twisted back-stabbing bastards). The band even survived Peart’s heartbreaking dual family tragedies in ‘97-98.

Pretty simple formula for longetity really !

A message from Brazil... | 2/4/2007, 2:03 pm EST

Eddie and Dave together…I can’t believe! I must to go to US to see the concert!

New Hampshire's VH-FAN | 2/4/2007, 2:44 pm EST

i’ve seen VH only twice; both w/hagar. longetity? eddie’s trainer has him fit as a 20 year old. booze, drugs, egos make rock and roll. symphonies are technically better, and technically not rock. how many rockers rush to them? crue inherited what rock title? how many crue albumns have gone diamond? the who without moon became the what. touring with wolfgang van halen worked out fine last time. this time it’s gonna be great. edward van halen, history’s greatest rock and roll guitarist, on tour again? non-believers.. free up those seats for the faithful.

From Brazil | 2/4/2007, 3:36 pm EST

Eddie and Dave must be come to Brazil !!!

Sammy | 2/4/2007, 3:40 pm EST

Wolfgang is probably a better bassist than Anthony, who was always weak. Though the most likeable guy from the band easily. Doesn’t it seem after 3 lead singers and all this back and forth that it was Eddie who needed to work on his social skills?

I loved this band up until Sammy left the first time. Now they just seem more and more pathetic. For the younger people it might not matter. I saw Pink Floyd without Roger Waters and you could not have convinced me it would have been that much better with him. But for me, who grew up with these guys when they were in their prime, I just wish they could call it a career. But to each his own. Be interesting to see how it turns out. I just hope Dave doesn’t need hip replacement surgery once its over.

CAPO | 2/4/2007, 4:05 pm EST

I SEEN THESE GUYS PLAY IN MONTREAL IN 1984 AND THEY AWESOME ,THEN THEY SPLIT AND IN 1985, IN COMES SAMMY AND I WAS A LITTLE SKEPTICAL BUT HE WAS GREAT, I LOOK FORWARD TO RELIVING THAT GREAT FEELING I GOT FROM HEARING THEM PLAY LIVE AND AS I EXPECT, I BET MOST OF YOU GUYS FEEL THE SAME, GOD BLESS “ROCK AND ROLL”

That just goes to show ya how lousy some of the new acts are. I thought I’d never see this happen, especially after the MTV abortion. Curious to see them at the R&R Hall of Fame.

VAN HALEN FANS SUCK IT BIG TIME

Dan | 2/5/2007, 1:52 am EST

This is a joke. You expect a 15 year old kid with no experience, who is just learning the bass, and doesn’t sing, to just roll on in and replace Michael Anthony? Do you know how many times Mike saved Dave and Sammy when their voices were shot. Many. I have tapes. Van Halen is the original 4. This is a slap to Mike’s face after 30 years. And do people know that he took a pay scale cut to do that 04 tour? And he was a trooper and did it anyway. Also, ED better sober up. He looks and sounds like a burn out. Did you see him at NAMM? Looked like a shell of himself. If this goes off well, it’ll be a miracle. Ed’s playing on that 04 tour was very sub par for him ( Sloshed ). I always thought one of the strongest parts to VH was their unique harmony vocals that were so strong with Mike. Some bands can last forever. Some can’t. And to the guy that said Anthony’s bass playing is weak? He can play both finger/pick style. Listen to some of the earlier records. He uses a lot of notes up and down the neck. They say this is a reunion. Yet, Ed and Al would slag Dave constantly behind his back. Say he could never sing. Now they bring him on board again? This is NOT for the fans. It’s a money making thing. Ed…pull your head out. They still have to get together for the Hall Of Fame. If I was Wolfie, I’d give it back to Mike because it’s only right. They need to get their act together anyway. That 04 show was the worst I had seen all that year.

D. Simpson | 2/5/2007, 2:05 am EST

Edward has been unfairly attacked in recent interviews. I am affiliated with the Pathology Laboratory that Edward help create (McClain Labs LLC). We are a state of the art laboratory that specializes in Dermatopathology (The study of the causes and nature of skin diseases) He has lent his knowledge of technology to assist in the practices of medicine (bar coding, digital imaging, etc). Edward is not only an asset to the musical landscape but a great humanitarian that has not used his generosity to aid his celebrity. We wish Edward and the band great success on the upcoming tour as well as the induction ceremony. He deserves all the best.

Top Gringo | 2/5/2007, 2:37 am EST

What Dan said…..

Naw. 04 was about the money tour–The It’s About Ed’s Alimony Tour!

(Damn! I miss those two together–their divorce tore a jagged slash through the fabric of my favorite teenage rock-n-pop memories.)

If anybody’s seen/heard Roth sing in the last few years you gotta be scared.
Ed’s got some real issues folks, chemical type.
I want this tour to be everything a fan has wished, just don’t expect 1984 Van Halen…this could get ugly.

I wish Van Halen all the luck they deserve. They are super talented and I’m sure can still rock like crazy because they are so dedicated. Wolfgang will be great! I am sure he has practiced his little heart out,
being taught by his dad. By the way, alot of bands replace band members- Change is good. Have faith in Van Halen because they
obviously have alot of faith in themselves.

joe | 2/5/2007, 11:16 am EST

I love train wrecks :)

Chris McKay | 2/5/2007, 11:19 am EST

Forget Michael Anthony’s bass playing (even though it was always perfect for the song). It’s not a reunion without Michael Anthony’s HARMONY and BACKUP vocals. Think of ANY of those classic choruses. Every one of them were MADE by Michael’s voice.

That being said, I’ll be there.

I just may have my arms crossed the whole time.

Granted, Eddie was a pioneer…but he is still not the greatest guitarist on the planet. He WAS. He is washed up.

Without Michael anthony, this tour is just a retarded ploy to make money. Who can blame them? Everyone points the finger about cash grabs, but everyone in their right mind would go after the cash.

I just think artists should have a little pride in their sound. Suck it up and bring back Michael Anthony…then go grab your cash.

Mike Anthony could possibly be one of the worst bassists ever, fans only liked him because he was a fat, colorful boozer.

Scott | 2/5/2007, 6:15 pm EST

To “VH Fan from New Hampshire,” How can you compare The Who to Van Halen? You say “The Who without Keith Moon became The What.” Yet, you are praising this Van Halen reunion WITHOUT Michael Anthony. Uh, Moon and John Entwistle died. That is why they’re no longer in The Who. Plain and simple, end of story. No argument there. So don’t you see a VH reunion without Anthony, a living, breathing, more than capable bassist and back-up singer, a contradiction there, partner?

New Hampshire's VH-FAN | 2/5/2007, 10:12 pm EST

No I do not see a contradiction.

I still believe in the Dreams of Eddie Van Halen.

Dr. Ralph | 2/6/2007, 7:33 pm EST

Edward Van Halen is the greatest guitar player bar none. His hammer on technique redefined the instrument. He and David Lee wrote the greatest songs of my generation and gave half their money away. Did John and Paul share with Ringo and George? Hell no! When I first heard “Beat It” on the radio I turned it all the way up and wondered why I was listening to crap J5. The biggest single on the biggest selling album ever and Ed got a dance lesson for his efforts! For that matter Michael J ripped millions off McCartney too, and then gave it up so he could fuck little boys in the ass. I hope Dave and Eddie charge a fortune and millions will pay! They’re damn sure better than U2, Neil Diamond, the Eagles, Rolling Stones, Barbara Streisand, Elton John, or any of the other geriatrics raking it in in wheelbarrows, and younger too! Take your little boy, your brother, and Diamond Dave around the world and show us all that nobody does it better than Van Halen!

Mikee Moose | 2/7/2007, 8:22 pm EST

What do you wanna bet Sammy Hagar pays his performores a hell of a lot more generously than Eddie. I would not be at all surprised to discover that Michael Anthony actually chose to skip this tour. We may never know for sure…

I will be going to this show.Eddie van halen made me buy an electric guitar when i was 14 years old and i have,nt stopped playing it since! I saw the sam and dave tour, both were good, but dave is the one that does it for me.Mike anthony’s background vocals will be missed.I hope ed’s boy toughs it out’what a gig for a fiffteen year old,but he does have van halen in his DNA so i have faith.I hope ed stays away from the drink and cuts it back to about half a pack a day. This could be one of the best concerts this summer,so long as the band gets along, remains professional, and stay’s completely commited to the most important factor,THE MUSIC !!!

CD | 2/10/2007, 7:13 am EST

This is unbelievable news! I saw Diamond Dave a couple of years ago at a little Festival in my hometown, closed my eyes during the show, and was instantly beamed back to 1984… Dave might have little hair as I do 20 years later, but he still has been able to assemble great talent around him during his abscence with VH and now he makes his triumphant return to the band that I think has several of the Top 10 rock songs ever made in my opinion. Just pop in “Runnin with the Devil” and experience brilliance that can at least be partially recaptured.

You know, sometimes it just takes a couple of dozen years for people to realize what they left behind and I can’t wait to see the show!!

Leave ‘em on… Yeah, that’s it a little more to the right OWWWWWWWW!!!! We all want some Dave and Ed! Keep runnin’ with the devil and Rock on…. everybody Rock on…. welcome to the club Wolfie, hope you can hang with the Atomic Punks.

Anonymous | 2/12/2007, 12:55 am EST

Yes, a Van Halen “reunion” without Michael Anthony’s vocal harmonies is NOT Van Halen… Has no one listened to the old albums recently?? And, yes, a 15 year old on bass (no matter what his bloodline) is ridiculous.. Of course, all of this might be acceptable if tickets weren’t going to be your typical 2007 prices (what, $200 each for Gold Circle, etc).. More power to everyone excited about this one… I’m glad I saw VH back in The Day.

Speed | 2/12/2007, 1:25 am EST

Coy, you are an idiot. Eddie is the man. Apparently, you never picked up a guitar!

El | 2/12/2007, 1:43 am EST

I’m willing them all for their best shot at it. But – have You seen Junior’s waistline? Dave or Alex could do with getting Wolfie into some sort of training regime. I can’t see the youngster having the necessary stamina, fitness, endurance, etc. for a tour, without getting into better shape. I’d question whether he could last half an hour – let alone weeks of it. I’ve not got a problem with the idea behind it all, rather the practicalities involved. Dave – send Junior up the side of a mountain! Give him the Jack Osbourne treatment!

Spool | 2/12/2007, 1:55 am EST

They could of OWNED the summer and 2007 if they had brought back Michael Anthony and made it the real classic Van Halen :(

Yet another totally blundered PR move made by the once mighty and proud Van Halen.

someguy | 2/12/2007, 12:12 pm EST

So michael anthonys “it” now eh? allways a price to pay. i know somebody like that myself, nothing is ever really easy with a guy like that. hes not a “team player” so to speak, either its his way (or he will have some crazy demands) or its not happening. have fun with half filled venues guys..

Dr. Ralph | 2/12/2007, 1:22 pm EST

Why is everybody on this save Mikey kick? Hell, I can play the bass better than he. If Wolfie inherited half his fathers musical abilities he’ll kick fucking ass and rule the world by the end of the tour. Oh, and don’t worry about his weight, as soon as daddy gets him on the road the boy will be so cranked up he won’t eat or sleep or blink for days! Long live Rock n Roll! Ted Nugent was opening for major concerts in Detroit when he was 14. Don’t underestimate you average fifteen year old, and Wolfie is anything but average judging from his parentage.

Tom | 2/12/2007, 2:23 pm EST

Wait I’m confused when will a schedule with dates and cities be released?

Top Gringo | 2/12/2007, 5:19 pm EST

Tour dates will be released exactly two days AFTER tickets go on sale. That way the scalpers can get the best seats instead of the fans who actually buy the records.

Shizzy | 2/12/2007, 8:15 pm EST

It’ll cost about $70 to $100 bucks to see these guys, and $300 for the first 15 rows! lol..

BONEDOG | 2/13/2007, 4:08 am EST

No Shit? Ed’s 16 year old son is replacing Mike on bass? Hope he knows tons of cool moves and has a red hot solo. I expect a lot of action on stage for my money!

Too bad Sting didn’t fuck up the Police Reunion and instead audition for the recently vacated VH bassist slot. (bet he could have given Wolfie a run for our money. maybe it’s not too late to swap Wolfie for Sting?)

Hey! Just realized. Maybe some of Wolfie’s high school buddies will form a band and also go on tour with them as the opening act! It could be fucking great!

I want to see Diamond Dave, but I might just sit this thing out.

:(

optomistic | 2/13/2007, 12:58 pm EST

can DLR still sing? who is going to hit those backup M.Ant high notes? If they dont pull off these supposed Vegas shows, its over!

Dr. Ralph | 2/13/2007, 1:00 pm EST

Shit Bonedog, I’m sure Wolfie can get a Jack Daniels bass and drop it off a stack of Marshall amps and jump up and down on it! If you’re far enough away from the stage and ripped on acid, Jack, caine, or (insert your favorite poison) you might even think the short fat dude IS Michael! Same as it ever was. Eddie will play faster than any man on earth and Dave will make fun of you and fuck your old lady. Buy the ticket, take the ride…

Top Gringo | 2/13/2007, 6:41 pm EST

Isn’t it about time somebody at RollingStone.com ‘Shops this article’s VH pic and replaces Mike’s face with Wolfie’s? (Hell. They already PC-cropped out Mikey’s “cigarette.”)

That pic is false advertising, and we surely do not want any of that associated with this “Reunion” tour, now do we?

GeddyLeeRules | 2/14/2007, 7:51 pm EST

Look, I am excited about this. Though again, it’s false advertising. Without Mikey, it’s just not Van Halen. He’s an underrated musician and he deserves much more credit as a crucial member to the band. Though i’m excited to see Wolfgang try to keep up with his dad and uncle (which will be quite the challenge), without mikey it’s not a Van Halen “reunion”.

eatme | 2/15/2007, 1:24 am EST

Eddie Van Halen is still the king, but he’s not the guitar god he once was. Could be if he wanted, but isn’t. The 2004 tour was proof of this. Let’s face it, the glory days are long gone.

2112ryche | 2/15/2007, 1:26 am EST

Mikey’s vocals are an integral part of the VH sound. Didn’t know VH had a bass player though.

Collins77 | 2/15/2007, 2:48 am EST

I have dreamed about a DLR – VH reunion my entire life, but without Michael Anthony it just isn’t Van Halen. I mean, Ed changed my life, and DLR is one of the best frontmen ever, but M.A. and Alex are just as important. His backing vocals are an important part of their signature sound. And a 15 year old kid? Man I hope this isn’t a train wreck.

Atomic Punk | 2/15/2007, 3:31 am EST

Finally, Diamond Dave is back. Now how about giving the Van Halen faithful what they truly deserve; a new STUDIO album!!! I’m tired of best-of albums with 2 new tracks. It seems like every time I hear Ed give an interview he says he’s got like 10 albums worth of material. Can I hear some of it PLEASE!!! I’ve been waiting since 1984 for this!!! No live bullshit, no compilation albums, only a real studio album will do, and I know EVERYONE will agree with me on this one!

New Hampshire's VH-FAN | 2/15/2007, 6:28 pm EST

New material would be great; I so far like all of Ed’s stuff.
However, lest we forget, when VH3 was released, many so-called fans CRAPPED ALL OVER EDDIE!
While his tastes have matured over the years, so many of us seem to expect him to crank out one spanking-hot Diamond Dave album after another.
(VH3 had little of that.) On the other hand, I for one can’t get enough of Up For Breakfast!
SO, I agree! Hey! Ed! How about making this an album promotion tour? Wadda Ya Say?!

Mike | 2/15/2007, 6:35 pm EST

With no Michael Anthony, it’s not a reunion. That simple. It’ll be a train wreck if Dave pisses Eddie off, but also the very first time VH fans boo Wolfgang.

optomistic | 2/16/2007, 8:20 pm EST

post some tour dates already VH ,I think this is going to be the biggest joke of the year. I feel bad for all the die hard VH fans.

LONG LIVE R@R | 2/17/2007, 4:50 am EST

It’s great to have ROTH back in the line up.We all know this is what weve been waiting for so as fans of VH lets wish them the best
and rock on !!

vh fan w/ a warning | 2/17/2007, 6:04 pm EST

it looks good on paper but fans beware-I saw DLR last summer and he is only a shell of himself, google some pics of EVH and youll agree he looks awful and reports have his health in question. I predict that they will not be able to complete the whole tour.

Dude | 2/18/2007, 12:48 am EST

Mick can no longer Rooster.
Neil can no longer Peart.
Dave can no longer Diamond.

Can my Heros still Make the Notes…

jon | 2/18/2007, 1:03 am EST

eddie who?

Ramzi | 2/18/2007, 4:55 am EST

I am very happy about the reunion, extatic. Last time I saw them was US 83 a three day concert in San Bernardino California. I was two rows form the boys with 300,000 behind me. They sizzled. I am sorry about Anthony but I can live without him. Having a kid on the set may bring in a more younger crowd maybe, I really do not care. I want to see Dave and Eddie togethrer again they started the magic.

optomistic | 2/18/2007, 10:01 am EST

If they were serious, dont you think the web site would be updated,to get everyone exited?give me a break!Oh yeah and neil peart is still a great drummer.

Brent | 2/18/2007, 11:20 am EST

Interesting to say the least, lets see what happens with it.

Dude | 2/18/2007, 11:25 am EST

neil peart is still a great drummer

(you got it)

..and Mikey is still a great–Great–bassist. and Van Halen is no longer a great band (without him).

jacofan | 2/18/2007, 7:37 pm EST

your all half baked sheep..if I could tell eddie anything, it would be to get rid of DLR and Sam and anyone else who subcribes to the school of cool. Let the fucking guy play music with his family as he choses. Dave left that band and through clever propaganda, he has convinced you retards that it was Eddie who fired him. everyone of you dumbed down peasants would suck Ed’s dick first chance you got…fact…I’ve witnessed the ass kissing from my “cool” friends who hated eddie for “firing” DLR. LOSERS. Ill be there ed.

Sell Out !! | 2/19/2007, 9:52 am EST

I predict they will sell out EVERY venue. I was in THE PIT in Philly when VH reunited with Sammy again. THe most amazing musical experience I’ve had EVER. Put your ego asside and go see the best rock and roll band that exists. NO ONE plays like Eddie or Alex. Wolfie? Hell, Neal Schon guitarist for Journey was a prodigy playing for Santa when he was only 16. This is going to be magical. Those of you who boycott, I laugh at. This just in, they’ve always been A-HOLES!! But they’re VAN FRIGGIN HALEN!!!!! WHEEEEEEEEEW!!!

DP Ken | 2/19/2007, 4:35 pm EST

Pip the Loon thinks you guys are tools! Eddie gave you what you wanted…Dave’s back! Buncha tools! Pip the Loon…he loved the sodomy. It’s what he learned from Tobey.

Tobey | 2/19/2007, 4:45 pm EST

I gave Pippi what he wanted. So should Eddie.

Dr. Ralph | 2/20/2007, 9:02 am EST

Wow, I knew Neil was asked by Eric Clapton and Carlos Santana to join their bands when he was fifteen, but I had no idea he played with Santa. Did he have to wear one of those stupid elf suits?

Capt BringDown | 2/20/2007, 11:53 am EST

Its not a Van Halen reunion unless Michael Anthony is there.Eddie is so childish he holds a grudge because M.A. is friendly with S.H. He is a little girl. I saw Roth this past summer in AC and its more of a sideshow than a rock show. Almost like a Vegas thing where he cant remember the lyrics to his own songs. I walked out after 4 songs.Ill go for the Jerry Springer value though.

optomistic | 2/21/2007, 5:05 pm EST

TRUST ME THE TOUR WILL GO ON.

EVH | 3/10/2007, 6:20 pm EST

get your facts straight. Go to official websight! Eds in rehab working on personal issues. TOUR IS OFF for now

EVH | 3/10/2007, 6:25 pm EST

OPEN YOUR EYES AND READ PEOPLE!We just received this compelling text from Eddie Van Halen’s representatives. We’re all pulling for you, Eddie …

I would like Van Halen fans to know how much I truly appreciate each and every one of you. Without you there is no Van Halen.

I have always and will always feel a responsibility to give you my best. At the moment I do not feel that I can give you my best. That’s why I have decided to enter a rehabilitation facility to work on myself, so that in the future I can deliver the 110% that I feel I owe you and want to give you.

Some of the issues surrounding the 2007 Van Halen tour are within my ability to change and some are not. As far as my rehab is concerned, it is within my ability to change and change for the better. I want you to know that is exactly what I’m doing, so that I may continue to give you the very best I am capable of.

I look forward to seeing you in the future better than ever and I thank you with all my heart.

Love,

Ed

New Hampshire's VH-FAN | 3/11/2007, 1:20 pm EST

This great news, and I could not be more proud of one Edward Van Halen. (This should pretty much STFU all of the EVH haters who can’t help flaming out their little hearts and small minds where it does no good and is really not appreciated.)

frankies crying | 3/12/2007, 9:51 pm EST

neil peart was not liked by Alex lifeson at first but they became friends all you fools who could play better step up on stage so dont knock VAN halen sure there idots but there music was great in highschool.

VME | 3/14/2007, 5:05 pm EST

Has anyone seen DLR’s voice? Someone please help him find it.

RUSS HUTCHINS | 3/17/2007, 1:14 pm EST

I THINK IT IS AWSOME THAT WOLFIE HAS JOINED THE BAND. IT GIVE ME GOOSE BUMPS THINKING I WILL GET TO SEE THEM ON TOUR. DAVID LEE ROTH WILL ROCK AS ALWAYS TO IM SURE. I JUST WISH I COULD FIND A CLIP OF WOLIE PLAYING SOMEWHERE????

dbvhfan | 3/17/2007, 3:09 pm EST

I wonder when eddie will fire wolfgang?

squeakywarrior | 3/17/2007, 10:48 pm EST

News flash – Eddie just fired his left hand for not knowing what his right was doing.

Oh and for all of you who support Eddie blindly adn were jumping up and down about the tour I hope you weren’t holding your breath. If so you are all way purple and dead by now!

BONEDOG | 3/17/2007, 11:26 pm EST

dont ya mean how long until wolfie fires ed and al, and replaces them with his buddies?

then they can all join in and wheel a 90-year-old diamond dave out onto stage for another “reunion” tour.

jump | 3/18/2007, 2:35 pm EST

So where did ed and family celeberate wolfies birthday?

New Hampshire's VH-FAN | 3/27/2007, 5:59 pm EST

jump: What did Wolfie’s parents give him for his birthday? Val’s giving him an autographed NIN photo; and Ed’s giving him back his father. How very, very cool.

Eddie Van Halen Rules!!!!!!!!!!

thundercat: pantera | 6/7/2007, 10:40 am EST

yada, yada, yada…..whatever…i just want to hear some new guitar shredding from eddie….(10yrs+ since VHIII…their last full studio album.) EDDIE RULES!!!

howdy doody | 6/12/2007, 11:24 pm EST

Ed cant shred anymore, he never really was a shredder in the same sense of the word to begin with.

He was too artistic about it and used that tapping, hammer ons/pull offs ects.. to emphasize speed but also make it a very vocal attribute to the chords within the music.

You could say hes a great prentender but it worked. he added a lot of color to his music and used a lot of bends/tapping as fills.

I wish them well | 7/5/2007, 7:17 pm EST

Of course I grew up listening to VH, and dreaded the whole DLR is out and Sammy is in back in the 80’s. I listened to Sammy’s solo stuff at the time and liked it, but just couldn’t see anyone else but DLR as the front man of VH. Then they went on to kick the world’s ass…. including mine. The Red Rocker is still rockin… and Michael Anthony is in his corner. I love VH, but betting on DLR and booting Red Rocker and Michael Anthony out is a piss poor move by the VH brothers. Do I like the DLR era….hell yea I do. Can he still do it….Doubtful….Look how long that solo career lasted with another kick ass master of guitar Steve Vai….not long! Put Sammy and Mike back in the band and they’ll fight like bitches….but every yaer I miss the new album with Sammy’s voice, Mikes back up vocals and hard base lines, Eddie’s masterful guitar playin, and Alex beatin the hell out my ears on those drums. It all just meshed for some of the best tunes of the last 23 yrs or so.

I wish them well | 7/5/2007, 7:24 pm EST

DLR was good in his time, and I dreaded the switch to Sammy, but VH will never be as good as whe they had the Red Rocker. Michael Anthony is apperently the only other member of VH who knew this. Dont get me wrong …like I said Eddie is the man and nobody beats out some percussion like Alex. No Sammy and Mike…..no Van Halen worth spending $70 a ticket on for this fan.

Nice to see Diamond Dave back in the
band. Wolfie should add a youthful,
energetic element to VH. Good to know
that song like “Little Guitars”, “Drop Dead

live again. Can’t wait!! Come back and
rock it hard boys!!!

Look, I wont get into the debate David/Sammy; Sammy was clearly better. But w/ Mikey Anthony, maybe you can replace his bass guitar, but you can’t replace those backup vocals.

I’m not touching this with David lee Roth’s member. It’s seems to me that Ed is as much an ahole as Roth. Michaels bass and back up singing are now history because of Ed. He shafted him last tour essentially making him a second class guy in his own band. Cheers to you Michael Anthony for leaving this piece of garbage. No offense to Woofie.

Vetteguy | 8/7/2007, 10:01 pm EST

Has been David Lee Roth,The new and improved Eddy, and a 15 year old bass player, just a bunch of over the hill rockers trying to makesome bucks(hey DLR needs pot money) NO THANKS!

Flapp-Jack | 8/14/2007, 11:03 am EST

I wouldn’t waste any $$ on this side show. Mike A. was the heart and sole of this band. Eddie and Alex have become old/nasty/grumpy over the years. They came out in the public (a couple yrs.ago) back disclamor about David Lees(Hall of Fame?) claim that they would reunite. Those two babies blasted Roth, because he got more press. Eddie will fire Wolffie if he doesn’t get his “WoW Stroke” from the media. If you want to follow a true vintage band try Aerosmith. Those guys like one another and care about each others welfare ( Tom Hamilton’s cancer). The results are they still continue kick-butt at their shows. They got threw their tough years. ( I was at the show in Springfield, MA when Tyler fell off the stage during “toys in the attic”. They sound better today. Pay your $$$ Areosmith live, because they still/never lost it. Save your $$$ and skip two grumpy old men show.

Downsy | 8/14/2007, 1:35 pm EST

VH is back and I for one, am very excited about the latest headlines.
Too many people have been so caught up in the he said/ she said shit, that it seems that everyone is too concerned with the “alleged” fueds and who is in the right, within the band. There is ALWAYS two sides to every story, and furthermore, who really gives a rat’s ass. It has always been about the music to me. Rather than remain caught up in the little school girl bitch gossip, open your ears and listen to the magic that will always be Van Halen, no matter who has the mic or the bass. There has always been an element of chemistry, no matter who or what. I loved the Dave years, the Sammy years, and even liked the Cherone tracks(although I sometimes had to pretend it wasn’t Van Halen that I was listening to. I don’t think the band has ever been about what “WE” think or want. I believe that Ed, Alex, Mike, Dave, Sam, Gary, and now Wolfie have gone about THEIR business, which is THEIR business, exactly the way they have wanted. They are all artists in their own respects. They are not our entertainment puppets or sounding boards for positivity, acceptance, or the legions of negaholics.(Go check yourselves into rehab for that!) With an open mind, I am very anxious to hear the new kid wonder and old Diamond Dave back in the line up. It isn’t what we were familiar with several decades ago, or even five years ago, but the band will always remain under one name: VAN HALEN!!
