Sherman Pore Becomes America’s Temporary Idol, Courtney Love And The Pet Shop Boys Break Our Hearts, And More

2/1/07, 9:01 am EST

cowell

  • Okay, American Idol contestant Sherman Pore is like The Notebook come to life or something. This 64-year-old dude collected signatures to petition American Idol to allow him to audition. He started the project while his “lady love” was dying in the hospital, to keep her distracted from the stark reality of her situation. Even Simon was humbled by this guy.
  • Shocker: Courtney Love is so not joining the judging panel on American Idol. Too bad, we were into the idea.
  • It’s not that the Strokes are breaking up, says guitarist Albert Hammond Jr., it’s just that they are all taking “a big amount of time off.”
  • Norah Jones has invited M Ward to tour with her. Indie rock’s favorite subtle prodigy will join Jones for a string of North American dates in April.
  • Today is the day all rumors we’d like to be true disappoint. Not only is Courtney not joining Idol, but the Pet Shop Boys have posted a message on their Web site declaring that they will not be working with Britney Spears on her new album, as was reported yesterday. Fine then. [via Entertainmentwise]

What a beautiful moment in the AI auditions when Sherman was allowed to sing one last song for his wife.

As I was, I’m sure every woman watching was reaching for Kleenex.

Bravo, Sherman.

Yeah…my wife was craying when Sherman sang as well. I am currently making a website for him ,and I am going to have my publicist try to find him for me so I can give him this site. He is an American Idol already!!

I thought the song from Sherman was so touching. Maybe you could do a senior version of Idol. Might be interesting to hear Boomers sing! I have enjoyed Idol so much! I look forward to it each week even though I am a “Boomer”. I am also happy Elliott is releasing a CD!

Too bad about the strokes, their first album is amazing and I think itd be hard for anyone to follow up a great album like that with all the hype surrounding it. Their newest one really seemed like they were starting to branch out, but maybe its for the best that they break up now instead of being absolute has-beens ten years from now.

John | 2/1/2007, 11:09 am EST

after reading the article, it doesnt seem like theyre really breaking up, i guess i should have read that before posting…

Larry | 2/1/2007, 11:13 am EST

The Strokes have staying power! Nice journalism. “The Strokes are pretty much breaking up.” If you read the whole story, Albert says they are going to get together in some form later this year. How is that breaking up?

ljtho5112 | 2/1/2007, 11:22 am EST

Sherman Pore has already won the AI contest for this year. ANy producer in his right mind will be trying to contact him for more of his talent to be released.

Michael | 2/1/2007, 11:25 am EST

Thank God!
I didn’t think PSB would stoop so low.

crock rock | 2/1/2007, 11:40 am EST

It was nice to see American Idol take a break from the 3 ring circus bigtop of embarrassment that the try out shows are and let 64 year old Sherman dedicate a touching performance to his Lady Love. His auditon will rank as one of the most memorable and heartfelt ever shown. American Idol and Simon for once behaved with class and it was a breath of fresh air.

Anonymous | 2/1/2007, 11:46 am EST

I thought the Sherman Pore thing was manipulative. How come he didn’t get a Golden Ticket?

Canadian | 2/1/2007, 12:06 pm EST

Where can you hear him singing?

Thanks,

Buster C | 2/1/2007, 12:14 pm EST

As much as the Strokes are loved in New York, the rest of the country has only heard Last Night, if their so great wheres the rest of the good stuff.

jungleland | 2/1/2007, 12:29 pm EST

I have to say I want to like The Strokes. I bought the 1st CD, I saw them twice (Outdoor Festival Music Midtown and then opening for Tom Petty last summer) and I just don’t get it. The still come off like an ok local band, cool clothes, cool guitars, cool heroes, no songs… The Raconteurs,White Stripes, Wolfmother, Cold War Kids, The Killers, etc kick their ass

Dave | 2/1/2007, 12:38 pm EST

The Britney/Pet Shop Boys rumor was always that — just a rumor. She mentioned that she liked a couple of remixes they did for Madonna and that she’d like to work with them some day. Suddenly, it becomes news all over the web. Enough already. For slightly more accurate and interesting music news check out:

I think The Pet Shop Boys should produce The Strokes.

Brock Landers | 2/1/2007, 1:42 pm EST

If Courtney Love joined American Idol, I would have actually started to watch it. What an amazing idea that has been shot down!

David Star | 2/1/2007, 3:03 pm EST

American Idol, for one brief shinning moment, showed their class, and also that of a humbled Simon.

Allowing Mr. Pore to sing for his “Lady Love” will live forever in our hearts.

If Mr. Pore never sings anywhere again, he will have transcended what else any American Idol can do with their singing!

Bringing living spirit to those of us, who thought it didn’t exist.

Congratulations Mr. Pore, you are the Winner!

TruthTeller | 2/1/2007, 6:49 pm EST

Oh Christ. Get over it. She’s dead. When the old bag turns 40, you trade her in for a pair of 20s anyway. All you losers who “Cry” over crap you see on TV are pathetic. And no doubt, lonely women who’ve been dejected and shunned by a man probably b/c you got too old or too fat.

Flowbee | 2/1/2007, 8:57 pm EST

Gee, TruthTeller. You seem a bit cynical and bitter with expressions of love and loss…

Unhappy childhood?

Sherman is a fake! I bet there wasn’t even a real woman, and if so, why didn’t he ever marry her in 20 years?

AlmondEyes | 2/2/2007, 8:13 pm EST

She must be proud of having a man like you..

Marissa | 2/5/2007, 3:19 pm EST

Sherman deserves a comeback. He should definitely be invited to sing at the season finale.

flowbee | 2/6/2007, 2:35 am EST

I HAVE AN ORIGINAL/FORMAL PETITION that I started right after the episode aired to have Sherman on the finale show but it wont allow me to put the link on this site. If you go to Google and type in the search engine…Bring Back Sherman Pore…(no dots) and it will have a link that goes to the petition. Please sign it and tell others if you would. I am trying to get all the signatures I can. Thank you for your support

angelsisty | 2/7/2007, 5:27 pm EST

For all of you that had nasty remarks about Sherman, I happen to know this man, he’s a good friend of mine, and I’m quite offended by what you had to say. He’s as real as they come, and has a heart of gold. He sings to make people happy and he sang to his love right up until the end. How dare you make comments that are so mean about someone you really don’t know!

flowbee | 2/8/2007, 1:35 pm EST

UPDATE ON THE SHERMAN PORE PETITION!!!!

The link has been removed from Google. But you can still find it by going to the Yahoo search engine.Type in Sherman Pore Petition and it can be found there under the link Back Sherman Pore on the American Idol Season 6 Finale Show Petition..Thanks for your support!!!!

I also agree with Angelsisty how dare people come on here and make rude comments. It is very hard to lose someone you love that is close to you. Obviously the people that have made those comments have not lost someone or are just cold and heartless and have nothing better to do with their time.

Mamma se Mamma sa mamma ku sa | 2/9/2007, 2:00 am EST

All you need is love.

angelsisty | 5/30/2007, 7:47 pm EST

Thanks for agreeing with me, and I just wanted to come back and make another posting about Sherman. His newly released CD “For My Lady Love” is available at walmart and on itunes… it is absolutely fabulous. Sherman is the most wonderful friend, and he is truly a humble and caring soul. His CD is not to try and make money for himself. this CD is a promise kept to his Lady Love, Melissa, that he would continue his music career. She had so much faith in him and if you go to the walmart site and search for it, you can hear samples. I ask that you all get this Cd, it’s wonderful, and get one for a gift also. He is donating 10 percent of every cd sale to the City of Hope Cancer Research Center..Melissa passed away from Cancer. How can anyone ever say anything rude about this man, that they don’t even know. I’m trying to email all of the talk shows he has been on for a return appearance, as well as ones that haven’t had him on yet. Please help him get the well deserved exposure and publicity of his CD for all of us…as you never know when that horrible disease will strike… and everyone probably knows someone, if not already dealing with it, that has it. Sherman’s voice and battling cancer all for 10 dollars? Who could spend 10 dollars for anything better!

Patrick Richmond | 11/30/2008, 1:56 pm EST

I saw the audition of Sherman Pore on Fox2 News in St. Louis and on YouTube, and why in the name of thunder would American Idol set such a stupid age limit at 28 in the first place? There are several petitons out there to get rid of the age limit. Senior citizens have such a grand voice! And you get history that comes with it. When Sherman was a kid, rap music hasn’t been invented yet.
