Shins Score Seriously High Debut, Pete Doherty Acts Like Pete Doherty, Fall Out Boy Imitate Hova

1/31/07, 3:07 pm EST

The Shins

  • Sub Pop superheroes the Shins have a lot to celebrate — their new album Wincing the Night Away debuted at Number Two on the charts, selling 117,991 copies in its first week. Would it have sold more if it had not leaked last fall? Who knows. This is a huge score for an indie band, and we are happy for them.
  • Watching this video of Pete Doherty shooting up is woefully anticlimactic. Doherty was reportedly in Thailand with Kate Moss to receive a Buddhist blessing of their love. He split to score and a fan, apparently recognizing him, invited him into the room she was sharing with friends, put on some Gorillaz and shot this footage. Gross. Sad. Gross and sad.
  • Fall Out Boy continue to fight “one of the biggest leaks there is” by promoting the shit out of themselves. On February 6th, when the band’s new album Infinity on High comes out, they will play three shows in three different cities to celebrate. Jay-Z did it better last year.
  • On Monday NIN will reportedly begin shooting the video for a new track “Survivalism.” We’re guessing this song will be the first single off the new NIN album Year Zero, set to come out in April (a.k.a. not soon enough).
  • We all know Ozzy Osbourne is a consummate family man. He apparently misses his daughter Kelly so much he’s considering picking up and moving the whole family (dogs and all) back to the U.K. where Kelly now lives. Awww.

Nice Pete Doherty footage…has anyone actually heard his music? All I read about is his drug taking.

I love Babyshambles but Pete is quite annoying.

lik roper | 1/31/2007, 3:55 pm EST

looks like fall out boy has a ‘going’ problem with that excessive leak and all…

Grawp | 1/31/2007, 4:47 pm EST

Nice of you to promote footage celebrating Doherty’s drug usage, Goodman. Your right…it, and you, are “gross and sad”. Thank God someone’s around to bring this filth to the masses…

Maybe, just maybe, The Shins’ album sold sooo well because it did leak and…wait for it…its good, too! Oh wait…that’s not a maybe, as numerous studies have shown that downloading doesn’t effect record sales…crap records do.

No one’s promoting drug use here, you douche. Your grammar is about as keen as your news judgment.

Thanks for the NIN link. Three more months!

Grawp | 1/31/2007, 6:25 pm EST

Yeah…RS running stories about Doherty’s drug habit all day long (and never about his music) isn’t promoting drug use…just Mr. Doherty’s habit (and generally glamorizing the “tortured/drug-addled artist” mystique). Plus, Doherty just signed a new record contract for million$…which, of course, has everything to do with the free press he gets from RS and NME. If that’s not promotion, I don’t know what is.

And my grammar’s just fine, grandma, thanks for your concern, tho. Your taste in music’s just as keen as your knowledge of the ever-elastic english language. Oh, and Fat Trent asked me to pass along thanks–for buying into his tired gimmicks and supporting his twinkie habit.

The Shins debut at number two on the charts, but RS puts on its cover Panic! at the Disco, whose music is like a number two in the toilet.

PeteRock | 1/31/2007, 9:02 pm EST

Nope. Nobody has heard his music. But I bet he is damn good at it because he does drugs. I tried pot a few times and I’m wicked good

Video store clerk | 2/1/2007, 5:17 am EST

Please promote his music and not his bad habits.

I love how RS tears the Republicans a new one every time they smear a Democrat in public.

Yet in the past few years, Rolling Stone Magazine has become the number one information source on Pete’s drug problem.

THey are not only dwelling on it but also poking fun of him.

One Day pete will die and RS will have a big cover on “how the media is to blame” I just know it.

PS – If you’re British musician and not in the 1960-1985 music culture, you’re a peice of crap.

OMG! The Shins at #2. Come on. This just shows you how fucked up the music industry is. I mean the album sales were weak. Weak. Let’s face it…the Shins suck big hairy dick.

Brian | 2/1/2007, 10:49 am EST

Well, there are two ways to look at the Doherty thing. Yes, it can be said RS is promoting and poking fun at his ridiculous, drug-hazed behavior. But, it also can be said they’re making a true asshole look like one on a daily basis to show just what a drug-riddled man with a world of talent who shits it away looks like. When I see him every day on RS’s web site, it just reminds me that I’m glad I was never dumb enough to do this to myself and that I never, ever will.

Sure...... | 2/1/2007, 9:09 pm EST

Fuckin Pete Doherty, what a loser. Just an absolute piece of shit.

bilo | 2/2/2007, 1:37 pm EST

i think brian is a bigger loser the doherty, i wish you’d OD
