Van Halen Plot Reunion: David Lee Roth Plans to Join Eddie and Alex for Major Summer Tour

1/24/07, 5:30 pm EST

Van HalenThe reunion that Van Halen fans have been awaiting for twenty-two years began in December, when David Lee Roth walked into Eddie Van Halen’s Hollywood home studio. There he rejoined the band for a rehearsal, singing fourteen Van Halen classics. “They totally got along on a personal level,” a source close to the reunion says. “And it sounded great.” At press time, Roth and the band were negotiating a deal for a major summer tour, which would be Van Halen’s first Roth-fronted tour since 1984. Along with a possible Police reunion, it would likely be among the year’s biggest box-office draws.

“Everything is up in the air,” Eddie Van Halen tells Rolling Stone. “We don’t want to say anything prematurely.” He suggested that the band is waiting on Roth: “People know where we are and that we’re making music. Whoever wants to come up can join us — they’re welcome.” But the famously contentious group may already be having communication problems. The source replies, “Dave is ready. He’s been ready.”

Meanwhile, Van Halen will be inducted on March 12th into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame — and it could prove to be an awkward night. Both Roth and his successor, Sammy Hagar, will be inducted, as will founding bassist Michael Anthony, who was recently replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie’s fifteen-year-old son. “It’s a privilege and an honor,” Eddie says. “And outside of that, we don’t know what the hell is going on. . . . Hey, Sammy might not show up on time — because he can’t drive fifty-five. Sorry, bad joke.”

For his part, Hagar — who split with the band in 1996 and clashed with Eddie on a 2004 reunion tour — says he will be there. “Everyone wants to see a good train wreck, but I’d rather see a beautiful flight,” he says. “I’d have no problem sharing a stage with David.”

The last decade has been tumultuous for Eddie Van Halen and the band. After Hagar’s exit, a brief reunion with Roth flamed out, and they ended up releasing 1998’s Van Halen III with a third singer, Gary Cherone, formerly of Extreme. The album flopped, as did an accompanying tour. In 2002, Eddie got divorced, and he was later diagnosed with tongue cancer. He told Howard Stern in 2006 that he beat cancer “in a way that’s not exactly legal in this country.” In the fall, Eddie released two solo songs for the soundtrack of a porn movie called Sacred Sin.

Eddie, Wolfgang and drummer Alex Van Halen have been regularly rehearsing without Roth, and they’re working up songs for a new album. Eddie says that Michael Anthony is no longer in the group because of his decision to tour with Hagar as the Other Half. “Anthony and Hagar started their own band,” says Eddie. “You can’t be in two bands.”

The Van Halen brothers say they’ve been inspired by Wolfgang’s youth and energy — and that he’s changed the sound of the band. “Wait until you hear this kid play,” says Eddie. “I pick him up from school every day and we jam. We’ve got a shredding bass player now that’s laying down the law for Alex, so I get to weave in and out.” Alex says the situation reminds him of the days when he and Eddie would jam with their dad, a jazz musician, when they were kids. “Our father would look at us and say, ‘As long as you guys can hold your own, there is no age difference,’ ” says Alex.

Eddie says that the band is determined to tour this summer, whether Roth is on board or not. “There’s not just one person on this planet that can sing,” he says. “We’re not waiting on nothing.”

Adds Alex, “Whoever the singer is, they’ll be surrounded by Van Halens.”

At this point, who cares about van halen. Sure they were great but no one even talks about this band anymore.

Mr. Obvious | 1/24/2007, 5:47 pm EST

You just did.

Jeff | 1/24/2007, 5:54 pm EST

Good luck to Wolfie, except I’m going to miss Mike Anthony’s background vocals terribly.

I hope Eddie doesn’t die in the meantime…those who get tongue cancer, recover and continue to chainsmoke and booze everyday obviously don’t have a vested interest in living.

Oddjob | 1/24/2007, 5:54 pm EST

Good point. The reunion is cool but no one REALLY cares anymore. All they have left is drama

Lobsters | 1/24/2007, 6:03 pm EST

It’s cool that Roth is back but dumping Anthony for Eddie’s kid is pretty shabby. But the Van Halen brothers are a pretty shabby couple of guys.

Von Maur | 1/24/2007, 6:04 pm EST

Um, Ed had cancer before his divorce.

Swingline Stapler | 1/24/2007, 6:17 pm EST

Michael Anthony was an unspoken presence in the band and seemed like pretty much the only one who never had to waive any kind of drama flag.
Who wouldn’t rather be sipping tequila with Sammy in Cabo instead of climbing aboard a hellbound train with a bunch of he-divas?

ken vail jr. | 1/24/2007, 6:22 pm EST

i am in heaven…the police and van halen? wow…hey i am a child of the 80’s and i never got to see these bands in my youth…i have seen sting, david lee roth and sammy hagar solo, but…wow…yeah it’s a weird drama show with these guys, but i am sure it’ll be great entertainment…i do agree that michael anthony should be there…but it still ought to be fun.

Marc | 1/24/2007, 6:25 pm EST

Oh, and to Mr. Obvious, I never read the article…So no, I really dont care..

tim | 1/24/2007, 6:28 pm EST

van halen and david lee roth reunite

axl rose releases chinese democracy

velvet revolvers new record kicks ass

Bob | 1/24/2007, 6:32 pm EST

Michael is an excellent bass player…he was an integral part to VH.

Wolfgang is 15, and it’s totally lame for his dad to put all that pressure on his son like that.

Keep the kid in school and put MA back in the band.

I Am The Walrus | 1/24/2007, 6:39 pm EST

Van Halen is a great band, but come on! If the Edmeister looks like he might keel over and die at any point while on stage, how many people will want to see the shows? But, hell, Keith Richards still does it, so this may get pretty interesting. Rock on, my Dutch friend!

Annoyed | 1/24/2007, 6:40 pm EST

This is not a “reunion” without Michael Anthony. Count me out.

Tommy | 1/24/2007, 6:46 pm EST

Just like the Van Halens to dump on a band member. You can’t be in 2 bands. Why not when one was dormant. Good excuse Ed. Its not a reunion without Mike.

Funluvincriminal | 1/24/2007, 6:48 pm EST

Well as an 80’s kid myself it would be pretty cool if they do tour with Roth it will give us 30somthings a chance to relive an all to brief moment in our lives.

jill hives | 1/24/2007, 6:48 pm EST

maybe they could play that porno movie on the big video screen to distract the audience from how shit they all look & sound.

Graham | 1/24/2007, 6:51 pm EST

It seems pretty obvious that Michael Anthony was Van Halen’s glue, rock, anchor, and every other cliched metaphor for stability. Three Van Halen’s and DLR on the same stage? Nilla please. It won’t last, and from the looks of it, neither will dusty old bones’s health.

straight pope | 1/24/2007, 6:52 pm EST

If they really were confident about their abilities, they would have made records under a different name instead of waiting on Roth /Hagar/Anthony. After all its about the music… right!

Santa Deus | 1/24/2007, 6:54 pm EST

ON THIS TOUR
—————–
In addition to Jack Daniels and Guitars there will be replacement hips on standby just in case…

Rolling Stone Sucks | 1/24/2007, 6:57 pm EST

Uh, sorry Ed, but without Michael Anthony, its not a reunion. It’s hardly even Van Halen without him. To stick your 15 year old kid on stage in his place is odd to say the least and to dump on Mike by saying “we’ve got a shredding bass player now” is about as low as you can get. You cannot tell me that a 15 year old kid is a better player than a guy who’s been in the business for more than 30 years. I’ve been a fan of this band since I was 10 years old, but I will not pay good money to see this badly written soap opera live. Try again Ed.

El Magnifico | 1/24/2007, 7:05 pm EST

If this show happens Im going to get wicked wasted and check it out. I like stories like this one — they give me something to look forward to. (I work in a factory and it is difficult.)

Mark | 1/24/2007, 7:18 pm EST

Mike will not be missed I don’t think… I saw VH once with Dave and you could barely even hear Mike over the roar of Eddie…

Rock on Van Halens!!!
Welcome Wolf!!

charliemapleton | 1/24/2007, 7:34 pm EST

Diamond Dave and Eddie are-without a doubt-the uber singer/guitarist duo.No one else(besides Lennon/McCartney,Durst/Bo rland ,among others)carries that bigger flame but them. All I know is,i’m waiting for the letters VH to light up when I hit the front row.

I Threw a Brick | 1/24/2007, 7:45 pm EST

“You can’t be in two bands.”?

What the fuck is up with that?

So many musicians successfully juggle their time between solo careers, supergroups and side projects that I’d be here all day listing them.

Eddie and Dave are still a couple of whining, crying teenage divas in a world of men. They still can’t get their shit together while their original fans in the 70’s and 80’s have grown up, had kids, bought houses and gotten ahead in their careers and their lives.

It’s just sad that Eddie and Dave are a still a circus sideshow like Jerry Springer while Sammy and Mike actually seem to know how lucky they are and aren’t taking it for granted. Eddie seems to want to punish them for that. That’s why I won’t be going to the Dave VH reunion concert.

Eddie is over-rating Wolfgang because he’s his son. No fifteen-year-old can have the sleazy attitude and life experience with women to play Van Halen’s catalog. He might be technically interesting (technically interesting bassists are a dime a dozen), but the personality won’t be there. It’s heresy to call it Van Halen when Mike is clearly available but it’s Eddie’s personal mental issues that are preventing him from joining a full reunion of the 1978 line-up.

Ecuador | 1/24/2007, 7:48 pm EST

Van Halen 2007!! Yes!! Welcome Wolfie!! For the doubters, check Wolfie… just wait!!

Graham | 1/24/2007, 7:59 pm EST

hahahahahaha, did charliemapleton just mention Wes Borland and Fred Durst in the same breath as John Lennon and Paul McCartney and Eddie Van Halen and David Lee Roth?!?! Give me a fucking break!

the dude | 1/24/2007, 8:53 pm EST

yeah …it will be good to see van halen on the road again …but to even mention fred durst and wes borland in the same breathe as lennon and mccartny is retarded

Muffinman14 | 1/24/2007, 9:23 pm EST

I have been waiting as long as I have been listening to music for the classic Van Halen reunion and the idiot brothers have two screw the fans again by net letting Anthony in the band, when they know thats what all the fans who’ve been waiting want? Screw these clowns, and Roth included for agreeing to do it!

baconballs | 1/24/2007, 9:26 pm EST

I dunno – I have a feeling this new VH will seriously kick ass..

Skullfreak | 1/24/2007, 9:44 pm EST

charliemapleton….you’re a retard, and a loser.

Skullfreak | 1/24/2007, 9:50 pm EST

Look…..we all love Van Halen…(and a LOT of you love Van Hagar but won’t admit it), but seriously…you’re gonna spend a hundred bucks to see a ‘band’ that’s a shadow of it’s once self? To call this band Van Halen is the equivalent (sorry Dude) of calling Wings the Beatles. Listen to Eddie – ‘We’ll tour with our without Roth’ There’s bickering before the 1st show!!! Bottom line – the fact that Michael Anthony is not included is a sin. What’s next Eddie? Get in a fight with Alex, and replace him too? Maybe Wolfie’s classmate can sit in on drums. Pathetic. And most of you guys are too.

Robbie | 1/24/2007, 9:51 pm EST

Greatest guitarist in the world!!!

Anonymous | 1/24/2007, 10:20 pm EST

The real reason Van Halen split (or a least part of the problem) was Mrs.Van Halen, that right,Ol Val.Roth was in love with her and so was Eddie.Dont believe me?”I’ll wail till your love comes down.I’m running stright to your heart”(1984).If they want to $ in on the “Fame” tour…cool!

Rick | 1/24/2007, 10:26 pm EST

I was a huge VH fan, but enough is enough! Not sure why Ed has to attack Mike in the media when he has never uttered a bad word about the brothers! He really has become a strange guy!

bryan burchfield | 1/24/2007, 10:27 pm EST

I dont see why Roth is in such need of Eddie. You dont see Sammy crying over him do you? Dave’s good enough by himself. He had a good solo career.”Hotdog and a shake” sucked but so did “Atomic punk”.Good luck to you Diamond Dave!

DT1235 | 1/24/2007, 10:30 pm EST

Look I love both versions of VH but to kick Michael out of the band was a just wrong. What Ed is jealous of his relationship with Sammy? What is he a 13 year old girl? I saw the 2004 tour and Ed was drunk off his ass. Some example to set for his kid when he was touring with him. DLR is an egomaniac who has done nothing since 1984. Count me out. If you want to see a real show, go to Cabo and see Sammy perform live.

apathetic | 1/24/2007, 10:32 pm EST

screw ed and alex. yes, at one time they kicked ass. decades ago. yes, at one time he was one of the best guitar players in america. decades ago. no mike, no tiny shred of dignity left. go away.

wes | 1/24/2007, 10:42 pm EST

The best guitarist indeed…no one more original. the last true guitar god.

Aaron D. | 1/24/2007, 10:58 pm EST

Let’s see…..what’s happened since 1984? Eddie has pretty much gone nuts. Michael Anthony is gone. Roth looks and sounds like hell, yet still posesses delusions of grandeur. Last time I checked (that would be in ‘98 with Van Halen III), nobody in Van Halen knew how to write half-decent songs anymore. Hell, Cherone was the only good part of the album.

Gee….I can see why everyone is looking forward to this.

Toro Toro! | 1/24/2007, 11:12 pm EST

No Question the original VH rocked.
Why does Eddie have to be such a dick? He is an egomaniac!

James Daniels | 1/24/2007, 11:17 pm EST

Misty Hymen | 1/25/2007, 1:43 am EST

I love Sammy and Dave – but no Michael? Screw you Eddie. You all about money, and you were so drunk last tour you didn’t even give us our money’s worth. You’re a has been. Go away.

skyking | 1/25/2007, 2:02 am EST

What you are not hearing about is the FACT that Chris Cornell has also been seen at 5150 a few times since October 06. Roth is a 50% go – at best!! Stay tuned….

Tabasco Butt | 1/25/2007, 2:15 am EST

No Mike? Teenager playing the bass? Then Dave needs to watch his dirty mouth on stage… I hope that Eddie starts to practice and quits smoking and drinking. Other option is to quit and retire.

BART | 1/25/2007, 2:45 am EST

The band’s lineup with out mike anthony will not have the true feeling and soul of the songs on this tour.Nothing against Wolfgang playing, but it’s not a complete reunion without mike.

JERRYLAVA | 1/25/2007, 3:00 am EST

ROGAINE TOUR!!!! ED NEEDS A SHRINK NOT A SUMMER TOUR!!! CHILD LABOUR LAWS LOOKEM UP !!!

arty rivers | 1/25/2007, 3:20 am EST

isn’t it obvious……in the end the only one who’ll still be able to say anything of importance will be the guy they said had no voice: bob dylan……..eddie, got good fingers, but he ain’t got no brain…and david lee roth needs to be happy he can score any bucks at all

tommy-tommy | 1/25/2007, 3:29 am EST

No Mike, No VH. His singing was the vocal anchor of the band. Lord knows he’s been the only consistent vocal presence in the band for 30-odd years.

Martin | 1/25/2007, 3:31 am EST

“Eddie says that Michael Anthony is no longer in the group because of his decision to tour with Hagar as the Other Half. “Anthony and Hagar started their own band,” says Eddie. “You can’t be in two bands.”

Two words: Dave Grohl. Grow up Eddie.

rudeness | 1/25/2007, 3:53 am EST

these guys just need to show up sober and play and after that stay as far away from each other as possibile till the next gig….oh yeah please tell me how someone can compare roth and van halen to lennon/mcartney..are you insane!!!!!

Goofyfoot | 1/25/2007, 4:27 am EST

Rumor is that DLR won’t do the tour without Michael Anthony.

Laurens from Indonesia | 1/25/2007, 4:48 am EST

When is Eddie going to acknowledge that he is part Indonesian?

Tabasco Butt | 1/25/2007, 4:56 am EST

I also heard that that is the reason why Dave hasn’t agreed yet: he wants Mike to the crew as well! Stick to that!

S. H. Michael | 1/25/2007, 7:15 am EST

Guys Guys don’t be fooled by such stunts. They are getting together only because they were proposed fro the Hall Of Fame and for that they need to appear at the ceremony together. It’s only for money and fame folks!!!

Chuck Nolan | 1/25/2007, 7:24 am EST

Why all this bellyaching over Roth doing the tour without Michael Anthony? It’s not like Mike quit when Hagar joined, it’s not like Mike sat in with Roth on the 2002 Hagar/Roth tour. If VH invest in some background singers – I’m all for it. I’ve been waiting years for this, Mike is a fair trade for the return of Roth.

baba o riley | 1/25/2007, 7:32 am EST

there’s a van halen “reunion” every few years. and then it ends badly. this is news?

Patrick Cotter | 1/25/2007, 7:41 am EST

As an example of a CD thou shouldst buy; Solesides Greatest Bumps, it’s a compilation of DJ Shadow’s Quannum crew’s finest moments from the 90s. Otstanding and totally worth buying

Kliffee | 1/25/2007, 8:26 am EST

I worship Eddie but he’s totally wrong the way he’s treating Michael Anthony. What, he’s supposed to sit around waiting for Eddie to get sober enough record and tour or else? They aren’t dating, for the love of god.
Send Wolfgang back to school and bring Anthony back or it’s not a true van halen reunion, bro.

dan | 1/25/2007, 8:32 am EST

how bout everyone just stops complaining and accept the fact that they are doing a tour ! I think it is a mistake if they do this without roth, and mike should be there, but its not going to stop me from seeing it.

(providing they come to CANADA)

Mr. Hopeful | 1/25/2007, 9:02 am EST

I have mixed feelings about this. I badly want Roth to fit in, put the ego to the side and give a great show. Yet, seeing some 15 year-old kid replacing Mikey is an insult to all VH fans. Maybe the kid will get homesick and Mikey will be back. I’ll wait….no pun intended

lasgames | 1/25/2007, 9:10 am EST

these van halens guys still dont get it, but theres a reason for all this, money,i guess those cancer treatments are expensive, cuz its not for the fans,22 years now, come on,this boat has sailed a long time ago!!

Ex-Bass Player | 1/25/2007, 9:27 am EST

Will Wolfie have a Mountain Dew Bass, and will Dave ejaculate Dr. Pepper onto the front row?

jungleland | 1/25/2007, 9:29 am EST

Mike, Sammy & Chad Smith (Chilli Peppers) will make a much better CD than the new VH, but admit it, you will go to this VH tour to hear the classics.

Mike is the HEART of Van Halen (Dave is the crotch, Ed is the hands and Al it the foot)so a VH without Mike kinda sucks. Plus he was the STAR of the VH3 tour.

VH1 can do a 24 hour behind the music on these guys(and I’d watch the whole damn thing)

Ps – $50 says that Dave insults Wolfie on stage by the 3rd show, Eddie freaks out,and this all goes kaput

WLee | 1/25/2007, 9:32 am EST

I’m up in the air about all this. But being a fan of the music, I’ll give it a chance and see where it all ends up. Hopefully not in the shitter.
If all else fails, take the advice left by another – go to Cabo and check out Sammy with Michael Anthony. Sun, sand, beautiful girls, Tequila and hard driving rock. What else do we really need?

Leo | 1/25/2007, 9:49 am EST

Anthony contibutions vocally can’t be understated. He’s the one hitting all of the high harmonies that set off their vocals.

Eddie is a loser. And that comes from someone who still thinks their 1st 3 albums are as good as anyone’s.

Dr.Paul E. Harrison | 1/25/2007, 9:55 am EST

Oh hell no! Not these two ego nuts again. They cant stand one another. They have been bitchin since they started. I hope Ticketmaster over rips me of for this one. Dave needed his old job back, Alex doesnt have anything to do and Eddie wanted to shine.Goodluck Wolfgang your going to need it! Running with Wolfie.

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/25/2007, 10:06 am EST

Give it up for the Rothband!!!Diamond Dave is the Joe Montana of VH, Sammy is the Steve Young, and Mickey well he’s the lead blocker that they couldn’t have done it without him.Wolfie may have inherited his fathers musical skill, but his lyrical skill will not be an equal replacement.Tha VAN HALEN brothers are a couple of fuckes and if they screw this tour up with Roth they should be HUNG!!!

MIKIE WEED | 1/25/2007, 10:07 am EST

YOU MIGHT REPLACE THE BASS PLAYER EVEN ALEX VAN HALEN ….BUT WITHOUT ED VAN HALEN & DAVID LEE ROTH ..ITS LIKE BACK IN THE DAY OF THE MOVIE FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH ….YOU SMOKED WEED EITHER IN A JOINT OR A BONG AND ON YOUR BONG WAS A STICKER NO BOZO’S ON IT DO THE WHOILE BONG HIT OR GET THE &%$@# OUT OF HERE ……NO BOZO’S JUST LIKE WHEN YOU WENT SURFING AND SOMEONE WOULD GET IN YOUR FACE LIKE THEY OWNED THE SPOT…WHEN YOU GOT BACK TO YOUR CAR ,YOUR WINDOWS WERE WAXED …SO THE NEXT DAY YOU WOULD SHOW BACK UP WITH BETWEEN 15-20 OF YOUR SURF TEAM MEMBERS AND DROP; IN ON EVERY KOOK IN THE WATER …..THEY KNEW WHAT TEAM YOU SURFED FOR FROM THE TATTOO ON YOUR RIIGHT SHOULDER BLADE AND THAT YOU WERE CORE TO THE BONE …..AS WITH ANY LINEUP ….NONE IS THE SAME AS THE ORIGINAL ……. VAN HAGAR WAS WANNA BE VAN HALENEE’S …..WHEN I SAW THAT I CANT DRIVE 55 IDIOT AS THEIR LEAD SINGER …,.ITS LIJKE A MAN GETTING CAUGHT WEARING PANTIES OR BARNEY UNDER WHICH BEST DESCRIBES VAN HAGAR …IT WAS A BUSINESS DECISION ….PAid off but put a bad taste in metyasl heads mouths around the world ..i saw Van Halen up to 1984 but when hagar was in the line …i did not want to know a thing as he is just pathetic ……and i can drive 55 and over …..

loudei | 1/25/2007, 10:08 am EST

Man… you can’t always get what you want… these guys sure know how to write a good novella… jesus… Michael Anthony can’t really play, but his presence and vocals it’s a big piece. I don’t know… Seing Dave and Eddie playing together is like seing Saddam and Bush dancing together…kind of hyprocritical…but its show business, right? I think they must record an album for it to be a real reunion, not a “take the money and run” deal….

they could have sammy and mike sing backgrounds on side of the stage too… LOL

G | 1/25/2007, 10:14 am EST

Ed, you suck for the way you have treated Michael Anthony.

Long time supporters to all eras of vh including III but this is the straw. Ed….you are outta your mind.

Allen | 1/25/2007, 10:31 am EST

No Michael Anthony! What a sad tour that would be. Count me out.

Gary | 1/25/2007, 10:40 am EST

It’s just so sad that one of the best rock bands ever have become this mass soap opera.Van Halen was my favorite band from Van Halen II-1984.Yes,I liked the Sammy Hagar years too, but I always seemed to like Sammy’s solo work more.Eddie was the best guitarist around, but then in came more keyboards and synths which was a bummer for me because I was so much a fan of the guitar playing Eddie provided.David Lee Roth had a few stellar moments in his solo career.I met Dave once and he was very cool towards me.This is all very heartbreaking to the old school fans.Michael Anthony is the man who should be on stage with this lineup.I have pretty much given up on most of the artists that I grew up listening to. Aerosmith in my opinion, sucks now,Kiss dressing other guys up to look like Ace and Peter sucks,Bonjovi on a country radio station? What’s next?Motley Crue touring with Justin Timberlake? I have no ill feeling towards any artist that have made the soundtrack to my life;I just wish that these people could get their acts together before it’s too late.

JT | 1/25/2007, 10:43 am EST

I dont feel sorry for Mike or anyone else. It’s music, It’s a R&R band. All the best one have conflict. Look at history.
If you dont like it dont go. Its that simple. Wolfie will be fine anyone remember Kenny Wayne Shepperd when he 1st started. He open for Vh at 16 years old. Def Leppard was 17 when they 1st started. He is Eddie’s son. Id want the same thing If I were him. Eddie owes us nothing and nor does he owe Mike anything. In fact I think Mike owes Eddie. Without Eddie & Dave or even Sam, Mike is a nobody.

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/25/2007, 10:48 am EST

Eddie said anyone is welcome to come over and jam with them. Anyone with common sense knows the world has been roaring for the great Rothman to walk back onto the bigstage with them since MTV 1996. There is but a short list of people who could even come close to filling Roth’s shoes right now. ELVIS PRESLEY, JAMES BROWN, JIM MORRISON, and oh yeah their all DEAD!!!!!!!!!

KEN VAIL JR | 1/25/2007, 11:13 am EST

I hope there will be a new lp of sorts…thought i bet it will be one of those ‘best of’s with 3 new songs…..it’s been over 8 years since the VH3 lp….eddie is too good a musician to be sitting around doing nothing. Kinda like Jeff Beck-the guy is amazing but he isn’t very prolific (unless you count all the session work he has done.)

Dan | 1/25/2007, 11:20 am EST

If they tour, it should only be with the original four. A kid on bass? Not Van Halen. You can’t just forget Mike and the past. A new album? No way. Roth and Eddie are not up to it.

Dan | 1/25/2007, 11:24 am EST

If there is a tour, it should be with the original four. A kid on bass? Not Van Halen. You can’t just forget about Mike and the past, he was always there. A new album? No way Roth and Ed are up to it.

Joel Selvin | 1/25/2007, 11:53 am EST

I’m really glad Camper Van Halen are reuniting; it was a shame that Eddie kicked Jonathan out of the band for wanting to play “Pushing the Norton.” Eddie really was great on “Take the Skinheads to Panama” and it would be geat to see the two of them doing those great old timely guitar/fiddle covers like the encores of old…

kline | 1/25/2007, 12:01 pm EST

How can you call it Van-Halen with out Mike Anthony? Ed needs to get over himself. I agree with Sammy Hagar, if Ed wants to control everything, why not just do a solo project?

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/25/2007, 12:21 pm EST

VAN HALEN MANIA is about to ensue. Like the MTV appearance with Dave was that awards shows biggest, and MOST classic moment, the HALL OF FAME cermeny and performance by ALL VH MEMEBERS will be watched by the entire world. The drama, and anticipation that is behind this is on matched in music post DEATH OF ELVIS, and BEATLE MANIA.Congragualtions to VAN HALEN fans everywhere this tour is about to make U2, and AREOSMITH look like a back yard picnic!

Atlanticcanuck | 1/25/2007, 12:39 pm EST

They should just cash in big time. What I would love to see is a reunion with both versions of the band. Roth and Hagar could split the vocal duties down the middle and even cover some of their solo material. Now that would rock! Genesis/Phil Collins and Peter Gabriel are planning the exact same thing. VH is a business at this point; get along for the music and then go home.

VH without any of the main 5 guys will be missing something vital. Michael Anthony seems like a stand up guy. And I think Roth would be better off joining The Other Band.
(Maybe they could change their name to the Ex-VH Support Group.)
At least they would be doing it their way and not at the whim of a once great guitarist.

charliemapleton | 1/25/2007, 12:40 pm EST

Honestly…I should’ve known better. You gotta realize that Fred and Wes alone(and i’m specifically not comparing them to any lead singer/lead guitarist duo),brought that flare and funk that glorified rap rock.I think Limp is one of the greatest bands ever especially to this day(and some-especially in this forum-would agree). The thing I realize,is that they’re always hated on here. Not that i’m concerned to that extent, but what’s the deal?Did rap rock die?If so,i’m just unaware, that’s all.I know they had their differences, but they’re hardcore just like any other band. But I was actually going with lead singer/lead guitarists PAST AND PRESENT.Plus,I apologize if I did use them in the same sentence.I ACTUALLY do think there are other lead singer/lead guitarists as great as both Lennon and McCartney and Dave and Eddie.Jim and Robby,Layne and Jerry…And you said I was a loser(laughs)! But in this case,Dave and Eddie are simply one of the best.

ct | 1/25/2007, 12:49 pm EST

why anyone pays to see what would essentially be a cover band (VH without Dave or Sammy) is beyond me! I don’t care if the singer sound identical… it’s not them! Why pay loads of cash for that when you can walk down to any local bar and see musicians playing classic rock hits for a $5 cover charge? The singer is 75% of it.
INXS without Michael Hutchence…
Journey without Steve Perry…
I’m amazed that these tours happen.

Mike | 1/25/2007, 1:06 pm EST

It’s wrong to leave Mike out of it. It’s a 3/4 reunion, and it’s lame. With any luck someone will shake Eddie out of his drug-induced stupor and tell him that the only thing the fans want is a classic Van Halen reunion.

Unlike you, I read books | 1/25/2007, 1:46 pm EST

Most of the people that leave comments on rollingstone.com are complete idiots (now I’m one!), but Jeff’s point is the most glaringly obvious and relevant: Michael Anthony is also the guy who sings those amazing back up vocals on every song they ever released that wasn’t a guitar solo. The Van Halen brothers come off badly in every news item that’s printed about them. It’s pathetic, especially when you’re sitting here listening to “In A Simple Rhyme”. VH brothers: you’re ruining the memories. Sammy seems to be the only adult in this sorry story. What a bummer. I’d much rather see a Montrose reunion at this point.

Lobsters | 1/25/2007, 1:47 pm EST

The more I think about this the more it troubles me – A fifteen kid on the road with David Lee Roth, Eddie Van Halen, and Mongo Van Halen? That’s just not right! Doesn’t Valarie Bertinelli have a lawyer? More importantly, does she have a boyfriend? I volunteer! Get the goddam kid out of the house, I’m moving in for the summer.

Kliffee | 1/25/2007, 2:02 pm EST

no wonder rap and boy bands outsell rock music.
when once greats like vh, axl and the likes can’t seem to write new songs and tour properly.

STR | 1/25/2007, 2:11 pm EST

No question it is VH MANIA at it’s peek, Diamond DAVE is the closet thing to an Elvis, or James Brown in modern rock music. His stage presents is matched in todays music world. This truley will be the most commercailzed hall of fame induction ever due to the caliber of all players involved, and the bad blood to fuel the biggest rock soap opera ever!

Joel Selvin | 1/25/2007, 2:29 pm EST

But I can’t believe Paul is actually putting Wings back together and getting Heather to sing and play keyboards. I guess art and marriage are two very different things! Looking forward to the new Wings Over America tour!

people wrote off carlos santana to mention one, look what he did with supernatural.. the van halens have always been the talent behind their band , eddie can do it when, how, and with whoever he wants, id still buy tixs and so would alot of other people,

Hey Ed, you are the greatest guitar player ever but it’s time to put Wolfie to bed and let Mike come out to play!!!

John | 1/25/2007, 3:01 pm EST

Eddie was a one time a “Good” guitarist, but he certainly was never Great. Santana, Clapton, Gilmour – those are Great guitarists. Can’t wait to see Van Halen at the local State Fair this summer.

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/25/2007, 3:06 pm EST

Put Jim Morrison, and James Brown in a blender, and you have DAVID LEE ROTH. Who in their right mind would wanna even consider filling those shoes. Dan Patrick interviewed Roth on espn radio, and noted the only music acts to sell more albums than VAN HALEN were groups like the Stones, ELVIS, LED ZEPPLIN, and The BEATTLES. The only difference is those bands have all had their grand finalle. This year will go down as VAN HALENS biggest.NEIL CAVUTO from CNBC interviewed him, and basicly said the world is screaming for you to get back with Van Halen. Look it up YOUTUBE.COM He’s been on LENO, JIMMI KIMMEL, FERGUSION ELLEN, THE VEIW all since this June when he released “strumm’n with the Devil” they all said “when the hell are we gonna see a vh reunoin!!!

Eddie and Alex have lost their minds! Replacing Mike with a kid is bad enough, then to say that they can just plug in any singer and tour, IS CRAZY! How about a REAL VH reunion. If you want to see a VH cover band, go watch the atomic punks!

My final comments of the day (atleast until late this evening)are this. With the polar icecapes melting out from under the peguins feets, lethal drugs wipping out an entire generation, and world leaders who seem hell bent of achiving armegedon. We could really use one last great escape from reality “RIGHT HERE RIGHT NOW” EDDIE there really may be no tomorrow. At least were this rock-n-roll soap opera is concerned.KEEP IT REAL WITH THE ROTHBAND!!!!

TenFingers | 1/25/2007, 6:05 pm EST

Eddie IS one of the great guitar players. Who since him has changed the instrument as much? Or for that matter, who before him other than Jimi? With all due respect to Clapton, Beck, etc…they stood on the shoulders of previous blues masters, and expanded the language. Jimi, Santana, and Eddie created their OWN language.

Matt C | 1/25/2007, 6:12 pm EST

As a guitar player, Ed is one of the best ever bacause he can do it all….
Shred a wicked solo – check.
Play great rhythm – check.
Write a great song – check.
Blow your mind live – check.
Be innovative/original – check.
AND he’s a hell of a keyboard player!
There are many GREAT players who can’t write songs – see Steve Morse (not one memorable riff in his career)
There are great songwriters who can’t solo – see Keith Richards.
There are great players who just aren’t very original – See Joe Perry.
To get to the point – Eddie is one of the best ever because he has no weaknesses…he does it all.

MegaSudz | 1/25/2007, 6:19 pm EST

The VH shipped sailed when they brought GC on in 96, instead of DLR.
Mikey was not the best bassist, but his backing Vocs. were so key to the VH sound. Oh “F” it. The Police are getting back together, the can have my money.

champeroo | 1/25/2007, 6:39 pm EST

ummmm, no weaknesses? You mean the booze, coke and meth don’t count as weaknesses?

Frank Dean Sammy | 1/25/2007, 6:47 pm EST

Ridiculous. To the people who agree that VH should go on without Dave and Michael Anthony, I pity you. VH was a BAND, not a Pro-tools project some schmuck created in his bedroom. The distinct sound you fell in love with was the combination of efforts from the original members on Analog Tape. MUSICIANS PEOPLE! NOT SOUNDS! This is why music has gone to sh*t. People are into the idea/hype of a band, but don’t really listen to what’s happening musically. ROCK IS DEAD! Thanks for the clarification…

Cletus | 1/25/2007, 8:34 pm EST

Matt C! You must totally be on drugs! Steve Morse has written more quality and memorable stuff than Eddie ever dreamed of! I love Eddie. But Steve’s music is VASTLY more intricate and complex. I’ve been playing a guitar for 25 years and you just flat out dont know what you’re talking about. I can play anything Eddie has ever done. There’s stuff by Steve I can’t even begin to play. You need to think before you speak.

E | 1/25/2007, 8:44 pm EST

‘Can’t wait to see them with DLR again – THE VH frontman whose schtick, persona and vision drove the band to the next level with it’s unique character and mystique.

It’s too bad Eddie’s emotional development didn’t keep pace with his musical development. I just wish he would “get over his ego”, grow up, sober up, suck it up and include MA. The “Other Half” isn’t and was never a real “band”. Sour grapes are stupid for a person of Eddie’s age and tremendous talent.

The new version of VH might be good, but it won’t be real VH if it’s not the original 4 members.
VH without DLR = so-so.
DLR without VH = pretty good.
MA + SH = so-so.
VH + SH = so-so.
DLR + VH brothers + MA = perfection.

Include Wolfie for part of the show if you want, but all 4 original members are what will make it VH and what will really draw the fans.

Matt C | 1/25/2007, 9:16 pm EST

I never said a word about “intricasies.” Intricate and complicated doesn’t always mean better. Is Steve Vai better than Paul McCartney?

Matt C | 1/25/2007, 9:24 pm EST

Again…Morse – GREAT player. Not a great songwriter.

VH can play great, AND write. Intricate doesn’t mean “good.”

stan the man | 1/25/2007, 9:39 pm EST

Wolfie, I feel for you son…run.Mike couldn’t take it anymore so he left.Alex maybe the greatest drummer drunk or sober but what the hell is going to do without liitle brother Eddie.Eddie sells the tickets! What the hell kinda haircut does Ed have? It looks like Rosie O’Donnel cut it. Know wonder the Donald makes fun of it.Then little wolfie there’s your uncle Dave.(here is where the shit hits the fan). With Dave it’s rock, pussy, dancing, pussy, screa ming over the note, pussy, well you get the idea. What a hell of a tour.

Cletus | 1/25/2007, 9:40 pm EST

Matt C! So you’re going to hang on a single word I used and totally evade the argument? In fact you are your own best example of why what you say isnt’ true. Eddie is an inspired player no question. And I dont mean to detract anything from him. He was a great inspiration and teacher. But just b/c you happen to like him doesnt mean he is the best guitarist that walks the earth. By your reasoning we’d have to classify people like Pat Metheny and John Mclaughlin as 2nd rate hacks simply b/c people dont’ go around humming their music. And beign without a singer seriously limits your airplay. Morse writes inspired and infectious music. And just b/c you dont’ have the capacity to appreciate it doesn’t mean he never wrote anything noteworhty. When was the last time you heard Eddie write Baroque music that made you want to cry? Simply put Eddie doesn’t have the bredth or depth of Morse. Neither does he have Morse’s extensive musical training. But to say that Morse hasn’t written anything you can tap your foot to or hum while driving flat out tells me you haven’t listened to very much of him. Now let’s talk about Steve Via. ANother inspired player. But his sound is thin (if you dont’ believe me how about Frank Zappa?) and I’d like to stick his whammy bar up his a**. Or how about Iggy WhaleSpleen? He’s incredibly fast but you’ve heard everything he can play in the first 30 seconds and then you get to hear it over and over and over again. So I have no beef with Eddie (other than his seemingly out of control ego). But your apraisal of Morse is just… well… wrong. He’s one of the few that has a real chance of going down in history as a genuine *composer*. Morse, while spellbinding on the guitar, is an even better composer. And just b/c you dont’ see it doesn’t make it false. How long have you been a musician by the way?

BOB | 1/25/2007, 9:42 pm EST

Cletus | 1/25/2007, 9:50 pm EST

Yes I agree. Tits are an eternal thought in the mind of the creator. :)

Matt C | 1/25/2007, 9:59 pm EST

Cletus – First, you are the man…I am sincerely enjoying this debate.

I NEVER meant to disrespect Steve as a musician, OR composer. He is fantastic. As I’ve said, a GREAT player. However, in the realm of Rock and Roll, and OVERALL guitar playing…I still think Ed’s ahead because he is like Willie Mays if you will…he does it ALL. Having written toe-tappers is not some silly trait..it is important. I’m sorry, Ed will be remembered long after Steve.

And as far as my musicianship, I’ve played guitar/piano for over 20 years. But when guys like us start boasting about our musical prowess, we come off like gym teachers talking about what wonderful athletes we are.

Cletus | 1/25/2007, 10:19 pm EST

Well this is where we disagree. IMNSHO Morse is hands down a better composer and will be remembered long after Eddie. I mean.. Johhny Cash was popular and could write a hit song. But in the annuls of music, a brazillion years from now, who do you think stands a better chance of being remembered? Johhny Cash or Charlie Christian? Cindy Lauper or Duke Ellington? A Flock of Sky Crabs or Led Zepplin? (and I do think VH *definitly* belongs in the R&R hall of fame, btw)
I think Eddies style is more appealing to the masses. I’ll happily conceed that. In fact I’ll go onto say that I was into Eddie WAY before I was into Morse. But to show you that it isn’t just my own opinion… Guitar player magazine voted Eddie into the Gallery of the Greats for getting “Best R&R guitarist” 5 years in a row. Steve Morse was also inducted into the Gallery of the Greats for winning “Best Overall Guitarist” for 5 years in a row. So it isn’t just my opinion. Who listens to hits of the 60’s these days? People thought Jimi Hendrix was turgid and confused but you’d be hard pressed to find any guitarists today that don’t recognize his brilliance. Like I said.. I think Eddie is great. But I think you are wrong about Morse and those who elected him to the GOTG as best overall seem to share my opinion.
Let’s hope we have time (and beer) to find out. I have to go now… my wife (who also has great tits) wants to check her mail. :)

Laurens from Indonesia | 1/25/2007, 10:19 pm EST

Slash and Eddie Van Halen. Both come from Europe.

tambo | 1/25/2007, 10:27 pm EST

This is a message to all fans of Eddie Van Halen. I am almost 50 years old. I have already gone thru David Lee Roth. Not that he didn’t have his day. Just like Super Nova, why not Van Halen. Search the whole friggin world for the right volcalist…….this is the 21rst century…..get new blood. Van Halen deserves to keep on rocking thru to the next century.

Matt C | 1/25/2007, 10:49 pm EST

Cletus…sorry you can’t respond…I fully get the value of great titties.

The prob with those guitar mag awards is I think you are only eligible in years that you have released an album. I bet years Steve won, there was no VH release.

Also, there were probably more intricate (sorry for that word again, but it was the basis of your original point) piano players thanin Mozart in his day, but he is remembered for WRITING songs that people loved. In other words, “the toe tappers” of his day.

Now, going back to Eddie…not ONLY does he write great toe tappers, but his playing IS intricate, maybe not quite as intricate as Steve’s, but Ed is a true original. Again, he does it all. The only thing Steve does better than Eddie are, well, the intricasies.

PEACE, and next round is on me.

Additionally stating Anthony, and Hagar are slated to attend but not tour, or perform with the band. Apparently there are no more invitations avialable at any price through the Hall of fame. Tricky to play, cool to see, but not real memorable. It don’t stick in your head. more people will pass his shit down thru gemerations than VH tunes??? that’s like sayin people will remember David Lynch flicks more than Steven Spielberg, because Lynch was more “artistic” or “deeper” BULLSHIT!!! Marty – Just cause Ozzy Osbourne can’t sing worth a nickel anymore doesn’t mean he isn’t one of the great front men ever. I saw the Stones on the last tour and they were not even close to how good they were even a decade ago. So I guess they aren’t one of the best bands ever? Just cause EVH may not be as good as he was in 1984, doesn’t take away the fact that he’s one of the greatest guitar players ever.

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/26/2007, 9:19 am EST

EDDIE VAN HALEN doesn’t matter to the younger generation, they don’t know him like they do some others including DIAMOND DAVE who choose not to go into obscurity. DLR toured with Hagar just a couple of yrs ago, and it was huge with a VH1 documentary, and ended the tour with an appearance together at (once again) the MTV AWARDS. they toured for 2 months and it was one of the top grossing tours of the entire yr. Even though his HOWARD STERN take over was short lived he was in many major city’s up, and down the eastern sea board, with tv advertisment, and billboards everywhere with DAVID LEE ROTH in everyones faces stuck in city traffic to see, and listen to.Not to mention he got paid 4 million dollars, and appeared on literally every major talk show on network TV in the aftermath. They all had the same question now that radio is behind you,are you going to bring VAN HALEN back from the dead?EDDIE’s been a porn loving drunk hermit for most of the past 12 yrs now.

I like the comment by Ed about Mike being with Sammy (you can’t be in two bands). What did you expect him to do all this time? Sit around like you have been? And do you think if Mike left Sammy that Ed would welcome him back with open arms? No way. As a big VH fan it kills me to say this is only for the money. But it has to be to have Dave back (who Ed can’t stand). Oh well, should be fun to watch the train wreck in the middle of the tour.

btm | 1/26/2007, 1:09 pm EST

Hey Eddie and Dave , come to Brazil in this Tour !!!!!!

champeroo | 1/26/2007, 1:14 pm EST

Sammy and Mike tour together and have a great time in the process. Their fans have a blast and isn’t that why you go to a concert in the first place – to have a good time! I have no desire to see three old drama queens trying to revive careers that died out years ago. I’m sure the tour will do well, but most likely people will buy tickets to see how the drama unfolds!

former VH fan | 1/26/2007, 1:20 pm EST

Give it up Eddie. The ego on this guy is ridiculous. I was a longtime fan, but continually kicking out your lead singers and blaming them for all your troubles is pathetic. The fact is your an a**hole. As much as I’d love to see the old school Van Halen, it’s just not right without Michael and David. And the fact that you are just doing this for money…well, you ain’t getting my dollar. I’m sure you’ll get plenty of cash. But I’ve lost all respect for you.

Kevin | 1/26/2007, 1:37 pm EST

You think Derek Trucks is sick with Clapton? Do yourself a favor and see him with his own band (The Derek Trucks Band) or sharing guitar duties with Warren Haynes in the Allman Brothers Band. You will walk away with new a appreciation of what mastering an instrument is all about. Derek and Warren “splitting heads” is down right amazing….Trust me!

Jon | 1/26/2007, 4:39 pm EST

This apparent “reunion” is an absolute travesty! The Van Halen brothers haven’t done much for the last decade, except to disgrace the band’s legacy. After VH fans have waited all this time for a reunion of the original foursome (with several failed attempts to do so along the way), they finally reunite without Michael Anthony? He is the only original band member who hasn’t made a complete a-hole out of himself, and yet he is excluded in favor of Eddie’s teenage son? Give me a break! Eddie had a problem with Mike doing a side project with Sammy, when Van Halen has done very little for the last eight years (besides the 2004 tour). What is Mike supposed to do – sit around and stare at the wall while he waits for Ed to pull his head out of his butt and record a new album (with Sammy, Dave, Gary or anyone else as lead singer)? If you ask a thousand VH fans, probably every one of them would rather have Michael Anthony as bassist than Wolfgang Van Halen (nothing against him – this is all Eddie’s fault). I have been a Van Halen fan since 1983, and I will always love listening to the old albums, but this is a total joke! I have been waiting for a DLR reunion tour for a long time. It finally happens, and Eddie still manages to screw it up. I imagine the tour will still make a lot of money, but they won’t get one dime from me.

#1 The fact that EVH’s son, is now in the band creates even more of a media frenzy to a situation that if hollywood tried to duplicate the perfect rock soap opera they couldn’t top this.#2 He will already be accepted as a musical protege. The name alone(WOFGANGE+VAN HALEN)infers musical genuise. #3 He’s going to be in the company of three people who happen to be considered legendary in there field, one who he probably still calls “DADDY” when he’s had a bad day.#4 I’m sure he’ll be in attendance at the NYC festivity’s but will get ZERO CREDIT were any past achievments are concerned. As SAM, and Mike should have there shining moment. #5 It seems to me Mike, and SAMMY would rather be JAMM’N at the CABO WABO anyway!!!

Robert | 1/27/2007, 9:50 am EST

I won’t go see that train wreck. I saw them in Dallas in 2004 and eddie was so drunk he couldn’t even play his solo. I want to remember them for what they were from 1978-1984.
Eddie son is not that great of a guitar player and Roth hasn’t been able to sing for over a decade. PLEASE !!

Me Wise Magic | 1/31/2007, 11:20 am EST

I don’t know about you, but I just finished listening to “Me Wise Magic”, with DLR, and it kicks a##.

John | 1/31/2007, 12:05 pm EST

I agree with some of the earlier posts. After all this time waiting for a reunion and then Michael Anthony isn’t included what a waste. if all the original members aren’t there then forget it. We should all protest by not buying tickets.

Lance in Iowa | 1/31/2007, 4:22 pm EST

Eddie:

I hope you do read these. I’ve been a fan since 1980. I saw you with Dave on the Fair Warning tour in Cedar Rapids Iowa and with Sammy on the 2004 tour in Moline Illinois. I’ve liked every one of the versions of Van Halen. Dave, Sammy, and Gary(I listened to this CD not long ago and it’s severely underrated. Not what we expected at the time but still one awesome CD).

I’m excited to hear that you’ll be working with Dave again. I’ll buy the CD if you guys make one. You really should put Michael back in the bands line up in my opinion (not that it matters for much). I’m sure your son is top notch for his age and maybe beyond but Michael Anthony contributed to Van Halen’s sound that made it a stadium selling act. Produce a CD for Wolfie, have him open the show and bring Michael Anthony back.

Glad to hear of your clean bill of health. I wish you a successful 2007 tour. You and Dave play nice together.

Knuckle Bonez!!! | 1/31/2007, 7:54 pm EST

I think Mike, and Sammy make a good team, because they are tight, and the CABO WABO is all they need.DIAMOND DAVE, and Eddie need a medator, and from all reports, WOLFGANGE has always favored the DLR era music, and is a major reason DAD broke down, and swallowed his pride to bring the DIAMOND ONE back in the mix.Dave is quoted recently stating how much he, and wofley boy get along, and what a great kid he is. He also said he refers to him regularly as UNCLE DAVE!!!All I can say is KEEP IT REAL WITH THE ROTH/WOLFGANGE BAND!!!!!

Stinkfinga | 2/1/2007, 1:50 pm EST

Eddie you Bitch! VH is nothing without Roth.

Roth, you need to learn to shut that friggin hole in your face except when your singing!

Screw Wolfgang, it’s Mikey or nobody!

We are the public! You are nothing without us, so give us what we want……….or you’ll end up as a circus sideshow!

Nicole | 2/1/2007, 3:51 pm EST

I am so excited about the possibility of seeing Van Halen live again with Dave. The addition of another Van Halen (Wolfgang) makes it even better. From what I hear, we won’t even miss Anthony. I can’t wait to see the list of cities and hope I can make it to more than one of the shows. Definitely going to one of the shows. I’ll travel anywhere to see this reunion! Make it happen. It’ll be a historic moment in rock n roll.

Thunder man | 2/3/2007, 6:48 am EST

Rock ‘n’ roll is not just music; it’s attitude. VH without attitude is Hagar / Cherone VH; only Dave can add the attitude, the chutzpah, the charm, and the spark.

pimpanzee | 2/3/2007, 7:06 am EST

I thought Van Hagar was an amazing band, but only Diamond Dave, Eddie, Alex, and Michael Anthony is VAN HALEN!

Eddie, it is nice that you are trying to make it up to Wolfie for lost years on booze, blow, and passing on mom for the sake of cheap sex with arbitrary women…but c’mon, for once just put your ego in a box, let your kid have a normal life, and bring back Michael Anthony. Wolfie on bass will be the reason why this reunion falls apart as it reveals the absolute contempt that Eddie Van Halen has to the fans that made him what he was.

David Leee Roth back in Van Halen is amazing…as I never thought it would happen after the 1996 blowup. But with a Eddie’s kid on bass, it just reaks of Eddie and Alex’s own “LSD” problems.

Dr. Mary Pat Jordan | 2/3/2007, 7:18 pm EST

I’m certainly not interested in watching some fat 15-year-old kid play bass in Van Halen.

derek trucks is the greatest guitar player of our generation. y’all should do yerselves a favor and either go see him play with warren haynes in the allman bros, or with the derek trucks band. i mention trucks only to correct the record on this board. derek is butch trucks’ nephew, not his son.

That’s really cool that he’s good enough and can play with Daddy. Thanks guys for working it out for all of us fans who have been waiting. I’m sure it won’t hurt the old checkbook either!

Far too much nonsense, and cry baby b.s. coming from a group that has attained this level of success. No original line-ups-NO Reunion, I’ll spend my $ elsewhere

enceladus1 | 2/5/2007, 3:21 pm EST

Been following VH since the first album, revered the band as Gods for a good chunk of my youth, learned all Eddie’s licks, even endured the early Sammy albums a bit, and prayed for a Roth reunion for years, BUT:

I’m beyond caring about a reunion at this point. Even with 10 years of downhill trajectory and professional embarassments, they still tip-toe around any concern for the care of their rock music or their fans if it means sacrificing their petty sense of themselves.

I predict a quick Suckfest for Dollars before the inevitable collapse. Not bringing Micheal into the mix throws more fuel on the notion the Eddie is the biggest agenda-driven pissant on the planet. Nice facelift bro – now if they could just get you into a soul overhaul program somehow we might just hear some good tunes…

Top Eddie !!! | 2/6/2007, 3:17 am EST

To VH lovers this Reunion simply will not, cannot have the High Impact of any of the past VH Lineups Roth,Anthony,or S.Hagar performance era’s .We know now that they will be missing some vital music components. Even DLR? he might still be up for grabs.. Please Note :The Unfairly Snubbed
Ie. Bassist-back up singer Michael Anthony, Sammy H.- Fast lane only Vocalist,Guitarist. Now as we speak this is fresh news but it is not written in stone there is No Guarantees this will even happen now as there’s still plenty of time for Eddie VH to mess this up too ? .. Eddie you truly are loved as one of the world’s top lead guitarist. Please start your healing process today and put all your pride aside for a minute and also send your dear son Wolfie back to The Munster Maison where he really belongs. Then with open arms Welcome all the True VH members back for your Special Reunion Tour. You really do need to include all the members whom have contributed to VH’s sound and Van Halen’s Succe$$. Do it 1ST for yourself and then do it for all the True VH fans around the globe. And Right Now!!!…

Music and Fans First | 2/6/2007, 11:19 am EST

I’ll go se them if I see a real turnover in their attitude. They still act like they’ve got the clout they acquired shortly after 1984’s release. They’ve fallen waaaaaaaaay off since that time – and you’d think they’d have relaxed and humbled up a bit.

If I saw a real arm-in-arm charge in the creation and performance of some tunes by ALL the original members, then I’d be very interested. But right now all I see is Eddie subconsciously rooting for yet another opportunity to be offended by SOMETHING.

R.I.P. Van Halen | 2/6/2007, 10:42 pm EST

In what could have been Van Halen’s finest hour, once again the nightmare continues. Instead of giving the fans the most anticipated rock tour in years, VH once again falls on its face and tries to sneak by with a watered down version of what made them a “Rock n Roll Hall of Fame” band.
It’s like watching a “over the hill” boxer, getting his brains beat in, not knowing its time to retire. As a fan, its hard to watch.
If the music still meant something, not to mention the fans, the four original members would put there egos aside and make this tour happen.
Forget the tongue, has anyone checked EVH’s his brain for cancer.
What a terrible press release. I always thought it was DLR holding VH back, now its apparent that is not the case. Can you blame MA for joining another band. The one he was in hasn’t done anything for 10 years. Maybe he wants to do more than sit home and collect royalty checks.
I’m sorry, Wolfie is not the answer. Either do the tour right, or just don’t do it. Same with the band. Let the Van Halen name be remembered for great music and incredible concerts. Not for constant line up changes and senseless bickering.

Retire “Van Halen” and let it be remembered for what it was.

R.I.P. Van Halen

*yawn* | 2/7/2007, 3:09 pm EST

Dave will push Eddie (and his evil twin sister Alex) too far in an attempt to get Mike back in the band for the reunion. And because it’s a good idea that’s faithful to the fans, Eddie will throw a hissy fit (again) and call it all off, citing Roth as too obnoxious.

Mark my words.

A big fan | 2/7/2007, 9:42 pm EST

Dear Ed,
We know you don’t want to hear the same shit over and over…but we’re pleading with you – save yourself, save VH…make this work. We, the fans, have always been there for you…It’s your turn to return the favor. We don’t just want the tour – we want new songs, a revitalized “OLD” Van Halen – take us back to somewhere between 1978 – 1984…and show us Where all the good times have gone. It’s not too late, but even for the ultimate fans – the sun is going down!

Doesn’t Eddie realize that it is the chemistry and sum of all the parts that made Van Halen what they were? Sorry but without Michael it ain’t the same. And what about all the classic vocals and harmonies from Michael? That’s a big part of their sound.

David in Colorado | 2/10/2007, 3:00 pm EST

When I heard Van Halen was hitting the road I was pumped. I got disappointed as quickly as I was excited when I heard that there would be no Micheal Anthony. I’m sure Wolfgang is a great kid, but putting him in the line up is like Donald Trump hiring his kids to run his company.

brian | 2/11/2007, 2:53 am EST

you know you always dream of seeing bands of the 80’s in 2007 weather or not it is to reunite or just jam together yes it would be nice to see the old line up of original member but what about some new blood.Vh had there time when DLR was the front man then when Sammy came brought some new sounds good songs. The dude from Extreme should have stayed with Extreme. now wofie as he is called will play if he can rip it up like Mike then let it rip and let the younger generation see what we seen back in the day

Finally looks like Dave is back! Edward is having a “Michael Andretti” moment. Andretti came out of retirement to race in last year’s Indy 500 with his son Marco before Michael got too old an fat to race. Edward probably realizes this is the last/only chance to share the BIGGGGG stage with Wolfman…at the expense of Anthony. Dave’s presence will guarantee the $$$$$. But there are still 1,000 ways for this to fall apart.

Are any of you nay-sayers in VH? Are you friends? Acquaintances? Have you heard WVH sing or play bass? Did you ever think to check these things out before you spout off at the pie-hole? They’re all human and allowed to not be as great and godly as we expect them to be but if VH (with DLR/WVH) can put out more stuff like Me Wise Magic on CD then I’ll fork out the $$$ to say I saw VH with Dave. So my point is you all bash but you don’t know every nuance that influences the way people act. Did you ever think Eddie might have sacrificed his sanity/health to be able to produce the kind of stuff that made him a legend? Second there’s no such thing as bad publicity. I would be worried if there were no comments, but like em or not we’re still talking about the single greatest band from 78-84. The more you trash the bigger the two-handed slap you deserve.

Big Mama G | 2/21/2007, 7:58 pm EST

That’s no way to treat Michael Anthony!!! His background vocals rule, and so does his bass. I’m sure Wolfie is a great kid and all, but that’s no way to treat someone who’s been in a band with you for 30 years!!!!

What a bunch of assholes Eddie and Alex are, and Dave too if he joins w/o Michael.

Having allways thought the world of Eddie, it is very sad to see him gradually loosing it. I’m not only talking about this whole reunion/new-lineup deal, but the signs are even in his playing. I know this is allmost illegal to write and I am no critic, but for a second forget who he is, and just watch and listen to his latest appearences on the net. He allways was THE one, but this is some drunk trying to emulate VH. Something is completely wrong…

80srocker | 2/23/2007, 2:32 pm EST

what the F%&* is wrong with Eddie VH? How can someone be so arrogant and egotistical as to completely ignore what all of his fans are saying? Sorry, dude, you might be an excellent guitar player, but the singer IS the band. And to repeatedly disrepect the singers and other guitar players is so wrong. WE, the FANS, want to see the REAL VH. Have a concert with Dave and Michael or don’t have one at all. Better yet, play half a set with DAVE and half with SAMMY. Otherwise, stay home. You will FAIL with your shitty attitude.

Eddie and Alex–”has beens”. I’ve been listening since the very beginning and you just get more arrogant and egotistical as the years go by. No wonder you can’t keep bandmembers. Eddie says he picks up 15 year old Wolfgang from school everyday and the “just jam”. Shouldn’t a 15 year old boy be focusing on education instead of sex, drugs and rock and roll? Don’t let him turn into you. Valerie, where are you?? Certainly you don’t agree with this!!

“Report: VAN HALEN Tour ‘Postponed Indefinitely’ – Feb. 20, 2007

According to Pollstar.com, the VAN HALEN tour that was never officially announced is now officially postponed indefinitely. The rumored tour took on an air of reality after a trade magazine announced that original singer David Lee Roth was about to sign on the dotted line, and that was soon followed by a press release via Eddie Van Halen’s spokeswoman-slash-girlfriend. Unfortunately, the worldwide frenzy of a VH reunion was too good to be true, at least for the present day. However, there was a lot of paper getting inked and Pollstar states that a tour announcement might not have been far off.

Sources also tell Denver’s Rocky Mountain News that VAN HALEN’s performance at next month’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony may also be in jeopardy too.”

BIG SURPRISE coming from these goons, huh?

If you’re all done, I’ll remind you of another 70’s band that has survived the ages with one core member – Boston.
Tom Scholz is Boston, in much the same way that Eddie Van Halen is Van Halen. It’s ideal to have the original lead singers, but each incarnation has good qualities.

I am sorry to say but they have missed the time to call it a day. It’s a much better idea to retire at the top of you’re game and not clutch at straws. Over the last 10 years, it appears the Van Halen brothers have made enemies of all their friends and former bandmates. It’s just really sad to see. This band is what started it all for me and now it’s left a sour taste in my mouth.

I mean no disrespect to Wolfie, Sammy, Eddie or Alex, but AAAARRRGGGG ALEX, EDDIE, MICHAEL & DAVID YOU GUYS ARE THE PROS – DO IT RIGHT OR DON’T DO IT AT ALL! How can you can have Van Halen without Michael’s sick bass lines and melodic backing vocals! HOW!!??!?!? It’s just not Van Halen. INCREDIBLE that this is the absolute best & worst music industry news I have heard at the same time! It’s like claustrophobia in reverse. I would have and had planned to pay any amount of money to fly where ever I would have to around the world to see just one of these shows. Not now. No way. THE WHOLE REST OF THE WORLD OUT THERE FEELS THE SAME! GIMMIE A BREAK. GIVE US A BREAK. DAMN WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN…

cpmiller64 | 3/30/2007, 6:22 pm EST

vh’s star hasn’t twinkled since vh-4 anything after that was sellout pop crap and to sell albums to preteens i think my mother got on board after the pretty woman butchery and thats when i abandoned ship. makes me glad i stayed with rush and now toolrule!!!!

cpmiller64 | 3/30/2007, 6:26 pm EST

talks about whooo????

vbeck | 4/1/2007, 9:18 pm EST

Time marches all over our ass’s. Eddie, honey I wish you the best. Stay focused on your recovery and everything else will fall into place. If it doesn’t, it wasnt meant to be. I would love to see Van Halen with DLR as front man. I loved SH, but when he joined VH, It felt like Sammy got a new band-VanHagar. Yikes. Anyways, If you all can pair up with DLR as front man, MA or no MA, WVH or no WVH- Hell I think the best idea is to include them both-Wolfie is kinda young to be on a big tour like that anyway(thats the mom in me speaking), I will be there with bells on!

G-Man | 4/12/2007, 9:08 pm EST

I am 15, but I know what I am talking about. We need Sammy Hagar!!!!

Steve.M. | 4/18/2007, 5:31 am EST

Man, I was a teenager back in the early eighties when Van Halen was at its peak. Every guy wanted to play guitar like Eddie, and every guy wanted Dave’s women. Haha.
I chucked VH when Hagar came along. Trust me, it just wasn’t the same band.
At any rate, I do think there is room on the stage for everyone. I say, start the concert with the ORIGINAL four members, Dave, Eddie, Anthony, and Alex, then bring Hagar out to do the Van-Hagar stuff. Then bring the kid out to play a few songs that were obscure on the albums (but that die-hard fans would know). And in the end ALL members finish the show like they always use to: by taking their bows in a single chorus-line of embraces. That’s how you do it.

van halen fan #1 | 4/21/2007, 2:32 pm EST

i think that eddie can get his life back on track and kick all the other bands asses!

bryan fan #1 | 4/21/2007, 2:35 pm EST

thomas rassmusen the fat ass | 4/21/2007, 2:39 pm EST

I saw Dave a few years back
solo at the Beacon in NYC

he was great I’m sure he can still rock.

Hope it happens!

Arod | 5/6/2007, 10:34 pm EST

Joe M | 7/6/2007, 2:48 am EST

I undoubtedly agree with many comments on this board. But, it’s my opinion that this reunion may very well be another joke. Eddie has a very long history of self-centeredness and he is very pretentious. He brags his ass off about his son because he is prejudice. I feel sorry for Wolfgang because he won’t be his own person as long as daddy surrounds him. I spent years idolizing Eddie’s licks but finally grew out of it. He’s just too damn nutty. He should spent the last years of his life trying to be more normal.

Salsbury stake | 7/6/2007, 2:53 am EST

Ed’s growing old before his time. Alex still looks like the transsexual drummer.

John | 7/12/2007, 4:50 pm EST

Michael Anthony was very lucky to have met the Van Halen brothers. His playing(?)was horrible. The tone, that bit that was called a bass solo…please.
His harmonies did add a lot however. People should judge Wolfgang once he’s out there in the spotlight. Then you can either praise him or bash him.
But Van Halen will be fine without Michael Anthony. He can open up for Sammy Hagar and his loser tour.

I was even hoping for a album with just alex and eddie…..as a classical………anything!!!! ! love you guys

Mama Kin | 8/7/2007, 2:10 pm EST

Watching Eddie wheel his oxygen tank onto the stage outta be worth a laugh or two.

I have three words for Eddie:

Joe F**king Perry

SingNLady | 8/7/2007, 2:38 pm EST

Marc….if no one talks about them…

1- they are
2- they will be
3- so are you :P LOL

Oddjob darlin….

We’ll see how much drama happens verses rockin!!!! Go guys and good luck…from a “friend”

Dave | 8/8/2007, 7:26 pm EST

Eddie looks bad? OK, you be a rockstar all of your life, beat cancer and alchohol and tell me if you are even still alive.

Rock On Eddie!

yassine | 8/9/2007, 7:16 pm EST

Good luck to Wolfie, except I’m going to miss Mike Anthony’s background vocals terribly.

I hope Eddie doesn’t die in the meantime…those who get tongue cancer, recover and continue to chainsmoke and booze everyday obviously don’t have a vested interest in living

Ronnie | 8/11/2007, 3:50 pm EST

a long awaited reuninon tour is not a reunion tour without all the original members!
still it will be great to see david and eddie on stage again
but it wont be the same.Regardless of what people may think of his playing for one reason or another he was solid and there from the start

zoso | 8/14/2007, 5:28 pm EST

Gonna be awesome, even w/out Anthony. He doesnt sing live all that well, sounds nothing like the album anyway. Eddie is one of the elite from his era. Probably the best. Moma-kin- are you serious??? Joe Perry!?!…he couldnt shine Eddies penis let alone shoes!!!You obviously have no incling to guitar playing. Good or Bad, i’ll be there.

KEN PITTMAN | 8/15/2007, 9:55 pm EST

These guys had a chance to be as big as the Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys but fell from the stratosphere over egos. As their biggest fan, they owe me one concert. I’ve put them in their mansions, flew them in their jets and just want to see them rock!!! YAAAA Welcome back boys!!! 19th biggest recording artists of all time earning the band the Guinness Book of World Records title for the most number one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock List.[5] According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is #19 on the list of top selling artists of all time (having sold more than 56 million albums in the U.S.)[6] and is one of only five rock groups that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S. The band and its best known former members were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 12, 2007.

SEE YOU IN BOSTON OCTOBER 30 !!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

eddie | 8/18/2007, 5:05 am EST

eddie you sad sad man

Steve-o | 8/21/2007, 5:44 pm EST

With all that Eddie and the band have accomplished, it’s easy for us to put
them on a pedestal, and to judge them harshly if they
steer themselves or the band in a direction with which we disagree.

I give Eddie credit for enduring hardships – even if some of them were-self-inflicted –
that might have KO’d others, and for moving forward in spite of them.

Personality conflicts and disagreements over direction plague every band.
Having been in many bands over the past 30 years, I can say that you either deal with
conflicts (of interest, direction, or personality) or you let them destroy what remains.
I have regrets over how I dealt with some of my own (small-time, local) bands’ conflicts and that
impact – on me and on the band – was hard enough at the time.

Having millions of fans, tour promoters, record companies, sponsors, publicists, media, etc.
second-guessing and publicly judging your every move would be enough to send all
but the most stable and secure of us packing for the outback.

It’s not my place to defend what EVH has or hasn’t done. It’s also not my place
to judge him, since I don’t walk in his shoes. Clearly, Van Halen is and always has
been Eddie’s band. Eddie’s had to fight through some personal issues over the past
few years and, accordingly, the band seems to have drifted more recently.

However, Eddie has found a new direction with this lineup. Whatever you may think of
Wolfie’s involvement, I can understand Eddie’s (and Wolfie’s) enthusiasm
for it. As far as goes the “he’s not old enough to deal with it” card,
put it away and get over it. I’ll miss Michael Anthony too but the guy has been busy
working with Sammy. Seems like both he and Eddie just moved on – maybe everybody else
should too!

By all of the comments – pro and con – it’s obvious that most of the writers here
care enough about Van Halen to register some fairly strong opinions. After all
the years that have passed since 1978, that says a lot about Van Halen.

For those of you who look forward to seeing this latest Van Halen incarnation on the
upcoming tour, I hope you enjoy it. I know I will.

ALL YOU THAT CLAIM THIS IS A REUNION SURE,THE VAN HASBEEN BROTHERS ARE BROKE BY NOW I AM SURE SO HOW ELSE CAN THEY GET MONEY START A REUNION TOUR WITH A NEW MEMBER SURE, CHARGE $100 TO SEE EGOS CLASH ON STAGE EDDIE IS A BIG IDIOT JUST LIKE AXL ROSE. GO AWAY AND STAY AWAY VAN HASBEEN.
WHY WOULD SOMEONE REPLACE A CLASSIC ALBUM COVER LIKE VH2 WITH HIS SON AND NOT MICHAEL ANTHONY THAT JUST GOES TO SHOW YOU HOW BIG HIS EGO REALLY IS.

Saw VH in 2004 and Eddy dragged wolfgang out on the stage and did a BIZARRE guitar solo while they were laying on the floor with their legs intertwined. Creepy. Everyone around me was just stunned. Does Eddy really think putting a fifteen year old kid on tour in a hard rock band of 50+ year olds is appropriate? Eddy himself admits wolf has only been playing for a couple years. This thing has disaster written all over it.

Rosie from Dallas, TX | 9/27/2007, 7:20 pm EST

Eddie, don’t fret over these ignorant comments. True fans are with you, win or lose. A Van Halen reunion is what I have been waiting for many years! I have been a Van Halen (not Van Haggar) fan since I was 12 years old! I am so excited and can’t wait to see all of you in St. Louis on Oct 27. And please ignore all the negative comments about Wolfgang, afterall, he learned guitar by the best guitarist of all time! His dad. These fickle fans need to give Wolfgang a chance. They probably haven’t even heard him play. Anyway, you have my support all the way! I can’t wait!!

Love you guys!

FedUp | 9/27/2007, 10:12 pm EST

Ten years ago I was the worlds biggest Van Halen fan, sadly now I just don’t care any more. The respect that I have lost for Eddie is huge – he remains one of the greatest guitarists of all time, but I feel that as a person he has allowed the worst of himself to dictate his life. Michael Anthony IS INTEGRAL to Van Halen, and to leave him off the bill is not just an insult to him, but to all Van Halen fans – get over it Eddie. If I want to see Spinal Tap I’ll watch the DVD – sadly Van Halen have become a living joke, with Eddie the punchline!

snowboy | 10/5/2007, 4:15 am EST

“I heard you missed us…we’re back” is being belted out and shredded through out the land. And no problem for all of you that won’t go because MA got booted. Plenty of people are sounding like they are having a great time at their shows.I’m sorry for Michael A., he sounds like a total class act and deserves much better for being 1/4 of the VH legacy.

TerraC | 10/6/2007, 8:29 pm EST

Sorry FedUp…..they were absolutely awesome last night!!! I saw them at Mohegan Sun in Ct., and to borrow a line from “Hot for Teacher”…. OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVH is a legend in his own time and if he wants his son to play with him instead of MA, more power to him! Be real, wouldn’t you!!!! They sounded as great as ever with WVH!!!!…and why not?!? You’ve got the best guitarist who still has it despite all his issues, the best drummer whose stamina is unsurpassed, the original voice of the band who still hits the notes AND the screams, and you think you wouldn’t go for the vibes of your son next to you!!!! Man, every band should be so lucky as to have those stars in alignment! Sammy couldn’t cut what we saw last night!!! He is not, and never will be DLR!!!! I’ll tell you, the whole audience was happy for them….and the whole band felt it! My advice is to anyone who hasn’t seen them on this tour, save up and buy that ticket!!!!….yes, the ticket issue is a scam but, get beyond it on this one or you’ll miss out…….stop your whinning because you are going to get to see a legend…..Listen to Snowboy….I’m telling ya, talent like these brothers have is rare!!!!! Go enjoy them!!! It won’t last forever……..

mike | 10/10/2007, 1:37 am EST

ohh van halen… at one time they had a chance to join the legends of legends like zeppelin, beatles, stones, pearl jam… then mtv came along and 1984 spawned the keyboard pop bullshit album from the once mighty rockers. money fame and fortune took over and the music went down the drain. sure it sold tons but it wasn’t the kind of stuff legends are made from but all the albums they made before 1984 were great and that’s why people are showing up for this tour. they’ve been wanting this since eddie and dave took it away 20+ years ago. will they make another album? gosh i hope not, i can’t see any of them making any new music that would be relevant today. well maybe wolfie he’s young he should get into a band his own age. as for the rest they should all retire with the money from this last jaunt….it’s over!!

davidshow | 10/16/2007, 8:39 pm EST

What cracks me up are those people posting comments who don’t know what they are talking about like I do.

Van Halen rocks. Eddie, even with his ego is the hardest working member of the band on stage and off.

DLR is and old school entertainer who still knows how to be young.

Wolfgang is not Micheal Anthony. He is one lucky atomic punk!

Did I pretty much speak for most normal people out there?

I went to the Van Halen concert last night and I was so disapointed! They sounded terible! There was so much static in the music you could not hear what they were singing! David Lee Roth looked great and still had his kicks in the air. Wolfie was pretty good and you could tell that Eddie was so proud of his son! I wished I could of seen them in the 80’s, it would of beed so much better! Eddie wasn’t as good as he used to be. I know that last nights concert was probably the last time they toured and I am glad to see them! I think Wolfie should be in a band with Nick Simmons! That would be cool! I am glad that Sammy Hagar was not there, I like David Lee Roth better!

brian | 3/21/2008, 2:13 pm EST

put dave and mike back in van halen
with sammy on guitar and some vocals and kick edward out.

zeprules | 9/21/2008, 7:07 pm EST

see these guys eddies a cry baby great guitar player indeed but was his strengths are his weakness no sammy no dave no michael… van halen is done. i seen em in thier day they did kick ass but all good things die. especially when you kick your band members to the curb.

Lance | 10/26/2008, 9:25 am EST

Sammy and Anthony are incredibly level headed, laid back, down to earth, and mature about all the Van Halen nonsense they have to put up with. F**k Eddie and Dave. They are egomaniac idiots.

Wishfull thinker | 10/27/2008, 6:26 pm EST

Some of us from the old days will always remember the ass-kicking Van Halen we came to love. As many of you have said, all the real members or nothing. I couldnt agree more. Its apparent that the love of making music has eluded some of these boys. Just look at todays artist, I can piss longer than their on the air. I saw Van Halen open for heart in Md. WAY back in the day. So I do remember the real deal. DLR could never be replaced, ever, it’s just that simple folks. Have you seen Valerie lately Eddie boy, licking those wounds now huh, lol. Overall I’d go see ‘um, but hell, I’ve seen DLR solo, just as good.
