File Under: Multi-Media Time Suckage

1/23/07, 3:43 pm EST

We’ve all puffed doobs and watched The Wizard of Oz synched up with Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon. And as rad as it was the first dozen times we did it, we’d have to say the novelty has worn off. Like, seven hundred years ago. Which is why we were excited to learn that some stoner genius discovered a new way to while away the hours using a DVD player and some sweet-ass tunes. It seems that the last chapter of Superman Returns links up astoundingly well with the Flaming Lips’ 1999 album The Soft Bulletin. We’ve yet to try this out, but we have a nice fat spliff waiting for us at home and a couple of brain cells to spare. In other words, it’s imminent. That said, we’re trying to be pragmatic. We know that in time, we’ll tire of this party trick as well. So we’re asking you, dear readers, to suggest other marvels of music-film synchronicity. Consider it a public service.

Try these, they work extremely well…

The Eagles’ “Hotel California” & “The Shining”

Radiohead’s “OK Computer” & “Hackers”

Find your own syncs:

Look for the “Rainbow Connection” beteween the album and movie. ie: “The Wizard Of Oz”, with the song “Over The Rainbow”, goes with Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon” with the rainbow on the cover…

Look for connections in the titles of the movie and CD, album and cover art, song lyrics, etc.

That’s my secret!

Radiohead’s OK Computer and Disney’s Fantasia DO go perfect together, just start both at same time (start the music with the start of the conductor scene)

rouh nikmke ya tarma

Spoony | 8/15/2008, 4:38 pm EST

Alice and Wonderland and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

Start the disc right when it shows the Cardmen holding up the “RKO Radio” sign. :D

dan headrick | 5/31/2008, 11:50 am EST

fantasia and siamese dream is the best synch
cue the pumpkins record and when the conductor raises his hand brings them half way down and then up and all the way down..you want to drum roll of cherub rock to start when his hands are all the way down

key moment bang bang your dead hole in your head lyric…right when it shows all of the dinasours dead

The DeVille | 5/9/2008, 1:09 am EST

If you want to see some honest to goodness jaw dropping syncs, try Peter Jackson’s “Fellowship Of The Ring” with Led Zeppelin’s “IV”, or Memento with Nirvana’s “Nevermind”… there’s a whole long list of them. In case you missed the Rolling Stone article, you can find it here:

http://www.rollingsto ne.com/rockdaily/index.php/200 8/04/18/meet-the-king-of-stone r-rock-movies-just-in-time-for -420/

If you can’t get that to copy and paste into your browser, just search this site for “Meet The King Of Stoner Rock Movies”. Oh, and if you’re NOT a troll, leave a comment! LOL hahah… hahahaha… haha…

Try my “Jaws Like Swimming” featured synch on The Synchronicity Arkive. It uses Jaws (1975) & Morphine’s “Like Swimming” cd.

I’m currently working on “Halloween” sync’d to “Queens Night At The Opera”. Half through it works great!

The DeVille | 3/2/2007, 7:48 pm EST

Woops, bad link. Try www.SyncMovies.com

The DeVille | 3/2/2007, 7:45 pm EST

How about “Ziggy Stardust” with “The Last Starfighter”… or “Toys In The Attic” with “Toy Story”… the original “Black Sabbath” with “The Exorcist”…? Somebody with waaaay too much time on their hands has put THIRTEEN of these bad boys on DVD. (That would be me.) You can watch previews, and even buy the DVD’s already sync’d up at www.SyncMovies.com. But it’s a secret. So don’t tell anybody! LOL… hahaha haha hahahaha

Red Eyed Blues | 2/28/2007, 9:51 pm EST

Try Radiohead’s Kid A and “The Wizard of Oz”. Have the album ready to go on pause and start it at the same time you would start “Dark Side of the Moon”…the third MGM lion’s roar before the movie begins.
If you subtract the last song from “Kid A”, the length of the album is exactly the same as “Dark Side of the Moon”. How convenient it is that the final track’s title on “Kid A” is Motion Picture Soundtrack.

j cuz | 2/6/2007, 10:45 pm EST

chris, i been looking for that sunch queue for sometime, thanks.

Chark Docolate | 1/27/2007, 1:04 pm EST

Start Mr. Bungle’s Disco Volante at the same time as Alice starts “tripping” in the cartoon Alice In Wonderland. It should be when the water spills I believe.

N Robertson | 1/24/2007, 10:38 pm EST

I know of two: Pink Floyd’s “Meddle” with Kubrick’s 2001- start the song right after the third “ding” in the third part of the film (after HAL’s demise). Also, and I’m not positive of the timing, but Nolan’ “Memento” synchs up with Hendrix’s “The Wind Cries Mary” well.

trent | 1/24/2007, 4:50 pm EST

Nine Inch Nails “pretty hate machine” with Frankenstein (1933?). Not tried it but for some reason they seem like peanut butter & jelly

Ross | 1/24/2007, 4:40 pm EST

I stumbled upon this one cloudy nite in college five years back

Cue Disney’s Fantasia to the beginning of the animation (there is like 10 minutes of intro with the orchestra & mickey) with…
Radiohead - OK Computer

It is quite impressive, right away the animation is rolling hills and its quite mesmerizing with Airbag
All throughout its pretty cool
Once Lucky hits the Dinosaurs begin their extinction.

I always held this one dear to my heart.

ryephunk | 1/24/2007, 1:37 pm EST

Titan A.E. and Moby’s Play, but you have to play the second disc of Play first.

Citzen Kane and White Blood Cells’ Union Forever.

The Grubby 1 | 1/24/2007, 10:19 am EST

In torontonia, there’s a place that plays The Wall synched up with Alice in Wonderland. That works beautifully but you gotta leave out “comfortably numb”. Kid A and Ok Computer synch up with Nosferatu, but I wouldn’t say its that amazing.

Chirs | 1/24/2007, 10:09 am EST

Suprisingly, nobody has mentioned “Alice In Wonderland” and Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of Moon”. Has anybody tried this? It’s much better that Floyd and “The Wizard Of Oz”. If anybodys’ looking to check for themselves, just press play on “Dark Side” as soon as Alice touches the water in pond after seeing her reflection. Guaranteed good times.

Francisco Valdes | 1/24/2007, 9:55 am EST

Ashlee Simpsons album syncs well with the exorcist in the sense that they both make you wanna barf

krose | 1/24/2007, 8:31 am EST

Beck’s “Midnight Vultures” synchs with Transformers the Movie (the old animated one extremely well. Don’t ask.

Chuck G. | 1/24/2007, 12:13 am EST

“Vegas” by Crustal Method and The Dark Crystal go together so well. An under appreciated album together with a movie that anyone 25 and 35 has to love.

Rob | 1/23/2007, 11:27 pm EST

Casablanca and Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut. They don’t really sync necessarily, but work well together moodwise.

Jon | 1/23/2007, 10:53 pm EST

Pearl Jam’s No Code & Superman (the original one)

pretty cool shit

Ragman | 1/23/2007, 10:13 pm EST

I read that the Flaming Lips’ new album, “At War With the Mystics,” synchs up perfectly with the nature documentary “Baraka.”

dennis | 1/23/2007, 10:02 pm EST

Ive been told that coheed and cambria’s “in secrect…” matches up with lord of the rings “two towers” and although ive never tried it, it very well may cause coheed is a bunch of dweebs and probably tried to do it.

Brian | 1/23/2007, 9:42 pm EST

like someone said earlier QOTSA’s amazing Lullabies to Paralyze is in sync with Snow white and the seven dwarves. Just thought i’d spread the music and word of Queens of the Stone Age. The Flaming Lips’ sync seems like it would be perfect for Superman.

pole | 1/23/2007, 8:59 pm EST

who’s got the Cheetos??

rustyshackleford | 1/23/2007, 8:55 pm EST

I have also heard that Echoes by Pink Floyd syncs up really well with the final chapter of 2001: A Space Odyssey, which is trippy enough by itself.

B-Rett | 1/23/2007, 8:46 pm EST

I heard about Dave gilmour’s new album ‘on an island’ and “cast away” sync

Nate | 1/23/2007, 8:12 pm EST

2001: A Space Oddysey and Mudvayne’s L.D. 50

Lennox | 1/23/2007, 8:07 pm EST

nine inch nails’ The Downward Spiral synch’s up perfectly and creepily with David Fincher’s Fight Club. More fun than oz and floyd. trust me.

You | 1/23/2007, 7:50 pm EST

guys should smoke less reefer.

Phil | 1/23/2007, 7:40 pm EST

I’ve heard the white stripes get behind me satan matches up with citizen kane. i always get to stoned to remember to try it. good luck.

Ben | 1/23/2007, 7:01 pm EST

Try the Queens’ ‘Lullabies to Paralyze’ and Snow White and the Seven Dwarves. Start the album about two minutes into the film, and with a minor adjustment here and there, you’re off on a serious one. Anyone else tried this?

some | 1/23/2007, 6:53 pm EST

anight mare befor x mss
and tools lateralus

TheDude | 1/23/2007, 6:50 pm EST

Pink Floyd’s song Echoes and The final chapter in 2001: A Space Odyssey, “Jupiter And Beyond The Infinite” sync up perfectly; they actually both end at the exact same time. Additionally, Kubrick stated his only regret was not having Pink Floyd score 2001 and Floyd has also stated they regretted not getting the chance to score the movie as well. Coincidence, or Intentional? Smoke yourself a fatty and you be the judge.

Jaime M | 1/23/2007, 6:40 pm EST

Tool’s “Undertow” and Gladiator

Matt | 1/23/2007, 6:21 pm EST

I’ve heard that Aerosmith’s “Toys in the Attic” album syncs up with Toy Story. sounds like a bit of a stretch to me though.

Brian | 1/23/2007, 6:12 pm EST

Yeah this doesn’t work. The only thing that does is Waitin’ For A Surperman and that doesn’t even work very well.

David | 1/23/2007, 6:03 pm EST

“Gone With The Wind” & “Hotel California”

Grawp | 1/23/2007, 6:00 pm EST

Built to Spill’s “Perfect From Now On” syncs epically with “2001″. the album is something like 55:20, so you have to set the DVD player to start with that much time left in the movie…

To see the birth of the starchild, my friends, whilst the last chiming guitars of “Untrustable (Part 2)” are ringing out will blow the mind and bring the goose flesh.

Hernandez | 1/23/2007, 5:45 pm EST

i don’t like superman and I don’t like flaming lips, so that’s not something i willing to do
nevertheless, miami vice synchs with Army of Anyone if you put it on the final hour of the movie

Marc | 1/23/2007, 5:41 pm EST

Genesis’s Selling England By The Pound and Toy Story.

Matt | 1/23/2007, 5:41 pm EST

The Streets “A Grand Don’t Come For Free” + Aladdin: perfection.

Hollur | 1/23/2007, 5:19 pm EST

If you sync up “Revolver” with “Basic Instict”, you’ll be refreshed to know you’re a douchebag.

Anonymous | 1/23/2007, 5:06 pm EST

Try the Pink Floyd tune “Echoes” with the movie ‘Contact.’ There is a specific start point but you can look it up on the net. Its better than the Oz/DSOTM imo.

Lobsters | 1/23/2007, 5:03 pm EST

Listen to “In Color” by Cheap Trick while watching “Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?” with Jayne Mansfield and Tony Randall - WHOA!!

i really hope its true | 1/23/2007, 5:00 pm EST

that would be so cool, the flaming lips are after all, influenced largely by pink floyd. GOing to try ALL the experience out right now…

JudasConstant | 1/23/2007, 4:59 pm EST

Wille Wonka and The Chocolate Factory and Low by David Bowie.

... | 1/23/2007, 4:37 pm EST

I did the Pink Floyd and the Wizard of Oz, and that was pretty cool. Too bad I dont really like the Flaming Lips…

Sweet Leaf | 1/23/2007, 4:19 pm EST

If you smoke a big enough hog-leg you can pretty much get any album to sync up with Tom and Jerry cartoons.

Joe | 1/23/2007, 4:05 pm EST

The album “Rattle and Hum” syncs up rather well with the movie “Rattle and Hum”, if you press play simultaneously on both machines.
