- The Oscar nominations are in! Dreamgirls received the most nominations (eight) but was left out of the money categories like Best Picture and Best Director (mostly because it’s a terrible movie, we’re guessing). Meanwhile, dark horseRyan Gosling was nominated for Best Actor alongside more predictable picks (like Leonardo DiCaprio and Forest Whitaker. Quirky feel-good indie Little Miss Sunshine got some love with nominations for both best supporting actor (Alan Arkin) and best supporting actress (Abigail Breslin). Martin Scorsese was again nominated for best director (this time for The Departed) alongside other category regulars like Clint Eastwood (Letters From Iwo Jima).
- LCD Soundsystem’s James Murphy wants you to be part off his plan. The band is putting out their new (and extremely excellent) record Sound of Silver on March 20th, and Murphy is campaigning to score the Number 1 spot on the charts. His argument: If everyone who will eventually buy this album does so in the first week, anti-Hinder glory will be theirs.”I’ll be able to move on to my other life as a mailman after that,” Murphy reportedly explained, “because it would be all downhill from there for me.” Won’t you help make this man’s dreams come true?
- The comforting thing about Dancing With The Stars is that, with one show, the creators have answered all of our ‘what ever happened to …’ questions. Billy Ray Cyrus, Joey Fatone, and Ian Ziering will all be guests on the new season.
- We had made our peace with James’ “Laid” being nothing more than the best karaoke jam ever, we never dared to hope that we might once again hear it live. But according to the band they are reforming for a string of UK dates. “James are back. Still fresh as a daisy. Ready to be the bride not the bridesmaid,” a statement by the band reportedly read.
- If you’re gonna sell out, perhaps it’s good to go all the way. Motorhead have apparently launched the Motorhead Mobile Store where the committed fan can purchase one in a series of ring tones and matching cell phone wallpaper.
- Mandy Moore has told Jane Magazine that she feels ashamed fans wasted money on the “trite, blah pop music” she previously made. She also claims that a battle with mild what-does-it-all-mean depression has informed the writing on her new album. Angst = the new blah pop.
- Marilyn Manson’s marital problems (and new post-pubescent girlfriend) are not keeping the rocker from moving forward with his career. He has announced that the next Marilyn Manson album will be called Eat Me, Drink Me, though no release date is currently set.
