Every Cool Band Ever To Play Summer Festivals, Marilyn Manson Becomes Hollywood Douchebag? Paul Settles With Heather

1/22/07, 9:08 am EST

rage against the machine

  • Here’s what’s gonna happen this summer: Just as we suspected they’re going to pull Zach de la Rocha out from wherever he’s hiding and put him onstage at Coachella for a Rage Against the Machine reunion. The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bjork, Sonic Youth and The Smashing Pumpkins are also rumored to be potential performers. Then, a few months later, Bob Dylan, The Police, and Pearl Jam will rock Bonnaroo. John Lennon, Elvis, and James Brown will rise from the dead to play encores at both events.
  • We expected more from Marilyn Manson than a year-long marriage, a midlife crisis, and the refusal to pay spousal support to soon-to-be-ex-wife Dita Von Teese. It all seems so … disappointingly normal.
  • Travis Barker will apparently be leaving +44’s European tour due to an unhealed fracture in his arm. Travis and his broken arm were so fall 2006.
  • We were getting exciting about the witness list for the forthcoming rapper-profiling law suit, but the collection of people supposedly testifying at Jacob the Jewelers’ trial is equally compelling. Jay-Z, Mariah Carey, Diddy, and David Beckham all may reportedly be called upon to testify to Jacob’s fine character.
  • Paul McCartney has settled out of court with former wife Heather Mills. The Beatle has reportedly given Mills a $32 million divorce settlement after six months of extremely bitter back-and-forth between the two.
  • Justin Timberlake is producing a song for former ‘NSYNC bandmate JC Chasez’s new solo record? At least it’s not Timbaland.

holy shit! I love rage! I saw then in 99 at the El Rey and it was one of the best things I’ve ever seen!

Danny | 1/22/2007, 10:21 am EST

Alright!! Rage are back, well for the concert maybe but hey, it could mean a great beginning.
(Cool! first comment!)

RushFan | 1/22/2007, 10:38 am EST

I’d personally like to see Rage and Audioslave both coexist. I think they are both great bands with something different to offer. It would be great to hear “Bulls On Parade” again.

baba o riley | 1/22/2007, 10:40 am EST

Sweet, does this mean audioslave can finally stop making horrible horrible music?

Sam | 1/22/2007, 10:41 am EST

It is quite interesting that no one has heard from de la Rocha in these last six years of corruption, deception and warfare. Why now? More importantly, why not?

Dare To Hear A Fool | 1/22/2007, 11:02 am EST

since when was it OFFICIALLY announced that the pumpkins were playing coachella!? i know the idea has been thrown around but if you go to the coachella site theyre not even posted as being on the bill…

CurtMayfield | 1/22/2007, 11:21 am EST

So whats up with Audioslave then?

RushFan | 1/22/2007, 11:26 am EST

Rage back together again?HALLELUJAH!New noise, new issues-it’s going to be like a no holds barred war report!

Ender | 1/22/2007, 11:48 am EST

Hopefully this will lead to a full scale tour. I am not sure about a new album. Just like the Pixies, I would just be happy to see them live again and don’t care much if they record new material.

Gurjit | 1/22/2007, 11:52 am EST

Bring the Noise..Bring the Rage… This could be great. But ‘Sources’ say it’ll be a one off reunion, which aint good.

vince | 1/22/2007, 12:03 pm EST

B-digs | 1/22/2007, 12:39 pm EST

where are you seeing the Smashing Pumpkins will play? Who gave you this information??! They’re not on the official lineup releases anywhere.

And those Bonnaroo headliners aren’t happening. Or at least, they’re nothing more than rumors at this point.

Do some fact checking, rolling stone. Stop getting us excited for stuff that won’t happen.

Jake Burns | 1/22/2007, 12:50 pm EST

Bears are in the Super Bowl!

Betta Recognize | 1/22/2007, 12:51 pm EST

RushFan | 1/22/2007, 2:49 pm EST

Thanks for the positive feedback WARHAND. I appreciate it.

fixtheglitch | 1/22/2007, 2:51 pm EST

I just hope this is enough to draw Zack out of seclusion. Hopefully they can put any bad blood behind them and go out for a full scale tour!

Kyle Orton's Drunken Beard | 1/22/2007, 3:40 pm EST

Rage re-uniting. Bears in the Super Bowl. No words.

matt | 1/22/2007, 4:39 pm EST

Hopefully Rage reunite for good. The music industry needs them

Blinked | 1/22/2007, 4:43 pm EST

Let’s all say it together now: Audioslave was an alright band, but nowhere near as good as Rage Against the Machine. Is it fair to compare Audioslave’s music and vocals to Rage’s, no, but we all know who we prefer. Cornell, make like a stone, Zach’s here to leads the bulls on parade!

sean iron maiden | 1/22/2007, 5:03 pm EST

RAGE ARE BACK! this is the best day in music history

I Am The Walrus | 1/22/2007, 5:38 pm EST

What are you talking about RS? Elvis is not dead! I saw him last week when I was down in Tennessee!

Rachel | 1/22/2007, 6:07 pm EST

I’d kill to see Rage live again. Hopefully this will blossom into something more.

Dylan | 1/22/2007, 6:32 pm EST

I hope that the RATM one-off show is just the beginning. Hopefully they decide to reunite and make four more awesome albums. I want some Sasquatch Festival line-ups released! I assume they’ll be out sometime in February. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a similar line-up that Coachella is boasting.

The Wolf | 1/22/2007, 6:54 pm EST

God Bless The Dead! Rage are back to save music and i pray to all gods that it isn’t just a one-off.
Is Coachella the best festival anywhere? Honestly the line up is amazing. A re-united Crowded House as well! What a magical few days it will be.

hey joe | 1/22/2007, 7:23 pm EST

Rage is back, but panic gets the cover? Doesn’t RS realize that Panic at the Disco and Fall out boy are just today’s n’sync and backstreet boys?

frank | 1/22/2007, 7:58 pm EST

rage against the machine is for people who hate their parents

rollo tomasi | 1/22/2007, 8:34 pm EST

i dont think rage coming back is a good idea. they were really good but they did the same album/song over and over again for years

AARON | 1/22/2007, 9:53 pm EST

ROLLO TOMASI U DON’T NOW CRAB ABOTH MUSIC RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE IS THE BEST BAND OF ALL TIMES. AND THIS IS ONLY THE BIGINING.

thank god two of the best bands of the ’90’s are back!! Go the Pumpkins and Rage!!

cheesecrop | 1/23/2007, 7:35 pm EST

All of these acts on tour this summer? The cynic in me is telling me it’s too good to be true. No let down’s please!

REUITE RAGE | 1/25/2007, 3:41 pm EST

Hopefully that will keep them away from Cornell.

REUNITE RAGE | 1/25/2007, 3:43 pm EST

But I say that only because RATM SUCKS and I wish Cornell would make better songs without them.

Is there an Audioslave song that’s as good as SUNSHOWER? I don’t think so. GO CORNELL GO!!!

Anonymous | 2/9/2007, 12:19 pm EST

Pearl Jam have been confirmed as not playing Bonnaroo. Bob Dylan will be there, but like Beck last year will end up playing a pre-headliner slot after rumors of being a headliner. The Police are now believed to be bypassing Bonnaroo to play Glastonbury a week later instead. The actual headliners will be The Eagles, supporting their first new studio album of original material since 1979, Coldplay, and String Cheese Incident. Other acts playing include Dylan, Latest leak:

With their first new studio album since 1979 coming out this year, The Eagles will make a huge splash headlining this summer’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. Coldplay will be the Saturday headliner, and the festival will close with an epic String Cheese Incident set as part of their farewell tour. The reports of The Police at Bonnaroo have turned out to be another Pearl Jam, widely assumed to be true but not happening.

Other major acts- Bob Dylan, Ratdog, Willie Nelson, John Mayer, My Morning Jacket, Rush, The Arcade Fire, America, Blue Man Group, Medeski Martin Scofield & Wood, Ludacris, O.A.R., Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams, Taylor Hicks, Peter Frampton, The Wailers, 311, Keller Williams, Korn, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Snoop Dogg, The Hold Steady, Cold War Kids, Chemical Brothers, Fountains of Wayne, Jonny Lang, The Fray, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Joanna Newsom, TV on the Radio, Violent Femmes, Garage a Trois, The Roots, Ozomatli, Konono #1, John Butler Trio, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Lily Allen, Charlie Louvin, Snow Patrol, Neko Case, Girl Talk, and others.

Michael | 1/26/2008, 8:18 pm EST

Yeah, that’s great.
I saw on MSbands.com there are some other rumors for Sasquatch than that. Cat Power for instance. I am so excited for it.
