- Just as Lily Allen prepares for her rumored invasion of America (said to feature appearances at most of our major summer festivals, an appearance on SNL, plus a string of heavily publicized shows) her home country has honored her with four nominations for Brit Awards including best British Female Solo Artist. Will we love her like they love her?
- Gambling movies typically breed good soundtracks and the upcoming Drew Barrymore vehicle, Lucky You, looks to be no exception. The soundtrack will apparently feature new tracks from Bob Dylan (”Huck’s Theme”) and Kris Kristofferson (”They Ain’t Got ‘Em All”) plus Bruce Springsteen’s “The Fever” and “Lucky Town,” and additional contributions from Ryan Adams, Bonnie Raitt and Drew Barrymore herself.
- If someone told you Death Cab’s Ben Gibbard was going to star in a film adaptation of a book, we suspect that — even without any other info — many of you would have picked something by egg-head angst purveyor (and total genius) David Foster Wallace. We except Gibbard to do a fine job in the forthcoming remake of Wallace’s Brief Interviews With Hideous Men, directed by similarly literary-yet-hot John Krasinski.
- Are Apple Inc. and Apple Corps finally to make up? Will iTunes become the first online distributor of Beatles albums? The two companies are reportedly near resolving their much-discussed rift. It’s all so exciting.
- Hilary Duff promises she’s co-written each song on her new album with Kara Dioguardi and that all tracks are therefore extremely personal. In other words there’s a song about loving Madden, one about hating him, another about the pain of tabloid scrutiny and a radio-friendly gem about being young and hot and just wanting to have fun before getting, like, old and stuff. Bleh.
- Pink backs down from her former (vitriolic and disturbing) attack on the Australian wool industry saying that she “doesn’t want to hurt anyone, she just wants the animals to hurt less.”
