i jumped off my chair when they announced he won that. and i cringed at every moment of that speech lol. that was fun to watch all of the celebrities’ faces as he went on. hahahhaa

He’s overrated. I didn’t laugh one bit during his pretentious speech. Just another example of how hacks can become celebrities in this country. This now is the land of “Nick versus Jessica,” “Let’s give Ashlee Simpson another break at lip-syncing” and the “Paris Hilton and Britney Spears Watch.” Who cares about these talentless, overpaid, overpraised nobodies? It’s a shame people like Christopher Guest and Eugene Levy can’t get 1/15th of the media attention the above-mentioned magically get each month….
Chris | 1/16/2007, 5:32 pm EST
Let Borat host the Oscars!

i like how scott considers eugene levy a talented actor. wow. his role in american pie the naked mile was breath taking i bet.
Green Bolshevik | 1/16/2007, 6:09 pm EST
Rolling Stone is getting pretty senile if it thinks that was the greatest acceptance speech of all time.
Sophomoric yes. Funny no.

I hate to do this,
BUT,
in 1980 when John Lennon was killed,
there was a local in australia being victimised by “Samantha” and his name was jerry cohen, just like this guy’s “real name.”
Where did Jerry Adams come from?

Scott you truly are an idiot, as a long time fan of sacha, I have no choice but to rubbish criticism of him by fools like you. He blends wit with the obscene in a meticilious fashion and now that he has made his breakthrough in film, he will go on to be a major comedic force in the US for years to come, so you can go lick his golden globes Scott!!

This was my very first time with Borat and now I can say I see what all the fuss is about. Reminded me of an SNL clip from the seventies.
rocknroll4life | 1/17/2007, 12:23 am EST
Now thats a speech.Witty, nonchalant and clever. Unlike the over the top stuff we are bombarded with. We need more Sachas.
shock value humor is all it is | 1/17/2007, 12:40 am EST
yeah, not “over the top” at all.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? “Witty” does not apply to jokes about a fat man’s testicles on your chin. This IS THE DEFINITION of over the top humor, and it is sort of funny but let’s not kid ourselves and consider this guy some sort of comedic genius. He talks about dicks and vags in a funny accent to offend people and laugh at their reactions. That is all.
Brian Fantana | 1/17/2007, 1:22 am EST
i liked borat but that speech wasnt funny at all.
charmlounge | 1/17/2007, 1:49 am EST
Wicked. Anyone who says this ain’t the best GG speech, better link to a better one.
PT | 1/17/2007, 2:16 am EST
this can’t be the best aceeptance speech ever.
john | 1/17/2007, 2:17 am EST
that is the greatest speech ever? it may be funny if you crack these jokes among friends but kinda cheap and crass for such an event. And for all the irony that he has illuminated in his movie, he could have gone for something poignant.
marky | 1/17/2007, 2:18 am EST
greatest speech ever? am i on mad magazine’s website?
ellie | 1/17/2007, 2:20 am EST
only people with unfunny friends will find this speech funny..
Joe | 1/17/2007, 2:26 am EST
For all you people bitching and moaning about how this isn’t funny seriously find something constructive to do. It is better than most acceptance speeches, and I’d rather he 30 secs of someone talk about fat, balls on their chin then cry and have trouble breathing as they try to thank every person they ever met on their way to win whatever award they just won.
Frutt | 1/17/2007, 7:34 am EST
That’s quite funny. Not his best material, obviously, but in this context it’s brilliant. Have we not had enough of the run-of-the-mill acceptance speeches you get at all these brain dead ceremonies? They’re stuck in the bloody 50’s. I’d like to have seen Peter Cook or Spike Milligan do one of these today. That would have been superb, and certainly no less rude than this.
john | 1/17/2007, 3:00 pm EST
i would not use the word brilliant to describe Cohen’s humor…I mean he is funny, but it is more in a shock-jock way…The fact the most of America laughed their asses off at his movie proves it…because the average person in this country if of little to no intelligence….
Yadier Molina | 1/17/2007, 4:03 pm EST
You know what made his speech especially effective? You can just imagine that when he started off so seriously and said “I’ve seen the dark side of America, blah, blah, blah…,” a whole lot of sanctimonious cause-mongering ninnies thought he was about to blather on about the injustice of Katrina, or the bad SUVs, or the evil people who earn good livings, etc – and then he talked about balls – beautiful
Scott Rolen | 1/17/2007, 4:05 pm EST
“I like how scott considers eugene levy a talented actor. wow. his role in american pie the naked mile was breath taking i bet.”
Give Scott a break – it’s not easy being old and out of touch

Cheap and carss for such an event??? The golden globes? The only thing tackier than those people would be the daytime emmies or the peoples chopice awards
uhhh | 1/17/2007, 5:36 pm EST
its not that funny. i hear those kind of jokes at school everyday. real humor is stuff that isn’t planned, but thanks
LA FLUNKY | 1/23/2007, 6:26 pm EST
That was a way-cool “in your face” acceptance speech spoken by a man who has the “balls” to practice what is most valuable in any Democracy. And that would be the freedom to say what you like, regardless of how many people may be offended. If you can’t stand a little “dirty” talk then try to only watch “Oprah” or the 700 club, so that your fragile little candy ass doesn’t have to be offended by those who understand what true freedom is all about!
