Farrell & Friends to Release Best (or Worst) Album Ever

1/12/07, 3:41 pm EST

Nuno Perry

Question: What do you get when you put unnaturally serene rocker Perry Farrell together with Nuno Bettencourt, Flea, Peter Hook, Fergie and the ghost of Jim Morrisson? Answer: Ultra Payloaded, the first album from Perry Farrell’s new band Satellite Party, which comes out May 15th. Farrell has been working on the record for three years, and though a smattering of random collaborations seemed probable, nobody could have predicted this craziness. According to the press release, the record is produced by Farrell, co-produced by Bettencourt and executive produced by Steve Lillywhite. It’s a concept album that “tells a story through a collaborative brain trust of artists, musicians and environmentalists called the Solutionists, who seek to redesign and come up with solutions for the world.” And the lead brain-trust-revealing track is “Woman in the Window,” an unreleased Jim Morrison vocal played against a backdrop of Farrell’s music, featuring lyrics like “Just try and stop us, we’re going to love,” which is apparently the Solutionists’ mantra.

This entire project is beyond mockable, and we haven’t even told you about the “Ultra Payloaded is more than just an album, it’s a wake-up call” line. But part of us buys this as a potentially cool (if hopelessly wacky) album. What do you think? Could this rock…or is Fergie’s presence a dealbreaker?

I don’t see how any project featuring Perry Farrell, Nuno Bettencourt and Jim Morrison could be anything BUT amazing.

Scott P | 1/12/2007, 4:00 pm EST

If Peter Hook and Nuno are together on a majority of the tracks, that could be pretty interesting. Maybe they’ll cover “My Humps” with Fergie, that could solve the world’s environmental problems, right?

adam | 1/12/2007, 4:05 pm EST

down to hear the unrealesed jim morrison vocal but as for the rest we can’t really know until we hear it now can we

Axl Rose | 1/12/2007, 4:09 pm EST

Hopefully Farrell will release his farts in a jar.

doing something about everything is better than doing nothing…

Can’t wait! Saw them at Lollapalooza in 2005. Good stuff!

PS | 1/12/2007, 4:41 pm EST

i’m beyond stoked for this.

Ishmael | 1/12/2007, 4:58 pm EST

Honestly, Perry Farrell has not done much worth listening to since the (first) breakup of Jane’s. He’s had a good track or two here and there (”Cursed Female,” “Pets,” “Tahitian Moon,” “Hardcharger,” “Meija,” and arguably “Just Because”). We all keep hoping the next album will be the return to form we’ve all been waiting for, but at this point, those hopes are, at best, tempered with more realistic expectations. I’d like to think that this album will be a late-career masterpiece, but in all likelihood, it will be just another chapter in the sad hangover that has become his post-Jane’s career. Kinda like expectations for the new G’n'R. Hope for the best, but expect the worst.

tom wieler "hip hop head" | 1/12/2007, 5:03 pm EST

an unreleased Morrison vocal? that’s fuckin crazy!
i assumed that Ray Manzarek had already released every sound ever to come out of Jim’s body, including farting and vomiting, and then slapped a $59.99 sticker on it.

Which is something i’m sure Mr. Morrison would approve of. It’s good to see that the capitalistic spirit of the 60s is still alive in the hearts of the remaining Doors. er, i mean Doors, Inc.

tom wieler "hip hop head" | 1/12/2007, 5:08 pm EST

wow, an unreleased Morrison vocal? amazing! i had assumed Ray Manzarek had released every recorded sound ever to come out of Jim Morrison, including farting and coughing.
it’s good to see that the capitalistic spirit of the 60s is alive and well over at Doors, Inc.

tom wieler "hip hop head" | 1/12/2007, 5:10 pm EST

sorry i posted that twice

George | 1/12/2007, 5:10 pm EST

Is it just me or does Perry Farell’s head look like someone took the eyes and cheeks of an 11 year old boy and attached them to the mouth and jaw of a 60 year old Italian man?

Killa | 1/12/2007, 5:13 pm EST

EXTREME are the best band ever! Nuno Bettencourt forever!

Ishmael | 1/12/2007, 5:16 pm EST

WTF? It would take More Than Words to explain how Hole Hearted-ly Extreme suck. Seriously.

yogurtu | 1/12/2007, 5:18 pm EST

They can solve some environmental issues just not releasing this crap in the form of tons of plastic and paper waste…

webegenies | 1/12/2007, 6:00 pm EST

Fergie will suck any goodness right out of this one.

Steve | 1/12/2007, 6:03 pm EST

I feel what Oddjob is saying just cause I love Perry Farrell and Perry’s heading the ship. If Perry Farrell is working with someone it’s cause Perry Farrell knows something. Dude, is awesome.

For example he said this once:
Came home fire and smoke on tv, Took off my clothes and came four times. Cause it was a Porno for Pyros
-That was genius.

He said:
We’ll make great pets. -Genius

He said:
I enjoy stealing. It’s just a natural fact. When I want something and don’t want to pay for it. -Genius

He said:
Ain’t no wrong. Ain’t no right. Pleasure and Pain. -Insight. Genius!

I don’t care if Perry Farrel is working with Hulk Hogan. Dude knows what he’s doing.

J.S. Wildhack | 1/12/2007, 6:45 pm EST

I’m going to wait and listen before I judge this one. Remember how good Panic Channel looked on paper?

cheesecrop | 1/12/2007, 7:55 pm EST

?????!!!!!

TheBonster | 1/12/2007, 8:27 pm EST

So, did I really just read something about Jim “Morrisson”?
Does Rolling Stone have some sort of a system to read over what people write in that place? What’s happening here?

charliemapleton | 1/13/2007, 2:18 pm EST

I don’t know about Fergie on the same album as Jim Morrison, but she would’ve made a fine hippie wife for Jim,only if she were to live in the ’60’s.

fan | 1/13/2007, 5:29 pm EST

elizabeth goodman you are so negative….”beyond mockable.” thanks for the newsflash. also you shouldn’t talk as “we” you should talk as “i.” i love rolling stone though.

Jimbo | 1/13/2007, 10:16 pm EST

Liz seems pretty pessimistic imo.

I could see it going either way. Depends on how much creative control Farrell had over Fergie’s role in the project.

nathan | 1/13/2007, 11:02 pm EST

It’s already dead, a massive subterranian death fart. Good stuff fellas. Christ, is this guy still around? When’s the last time he did anything even remotely credible besides refunding $$$ to 50 people because they were the only ones to buy tickets for Lola. Pack it in Perry, get medicated, spend some more time in rehab but when you get out… stay out of the studio. You’re wasting everybody’s time… sorta how I’m wasting mine currently.

RadioCheez | 1/14/2007, 12:51 am EST

Tolerence in 2007!If you can’t dig it, you don’t need to dig it, Man!!

max | 1/14/2007, 2:32 am EST

ok, this could potentially be sweet, but since when is fergie a “dealbreaker” with you guys. rollingstone, you put her on the cover of your fucking magazine. who are you trying to please? grow some balls. say what you believe, believe what you say, and stop trying to please every scene in order to be trendy to everyone.

Justin Ling | 1/14/2007, 7:38 pm EST

Lets all join in a collective chant that will raise Jim Morrison from the dead and take out every true rock fan’s unbridled anger at Fergie.

Bob | 1/14/2007, 9:28 pm EST

This is an embarrassment to Morrison.

sam | 1/15/2007, 12:46 am EST

I personally reckon ole Jimbo would be quite appreciative of Fergie’s lovely lady lumps.

Anonymous | 1/15/2007, 1:41 am EST

I view this as very simple. Personally, I think the album will be average. Meaning, half the songs will suck, half will be very cool. However, no matter how absured Perry gets with Morrisons productions, I just have the feeling the words and melody will be interesting enough. With a title like “Woman in the Window” we are off to a good start.

Johnny Marr | 1/15/2007, 10:10 am EST

Look on the bright side – at least it doesn’t involve those parasitic ghouls (e.g., Manzerek) who used to be in the Doors trying to make a few more dollars off of Morrison.

boo boo | 1/15/2007, 11:03 am EST

i think Fergie’s presence is more like a ballbreaker!!!

and where the hell did they dig up Nuno Bettencourt from, and Perry Farell looks like a queen!!

peter lacount | 1/15/2007, 11:52 am EST

fergie is quite possibly the the ugliest sex symbol ever

Neds Fresh Sisiter | 1/15/2007, 11:55 am EST

Perry’s Back, that’s all that needs to be said. Perry is awesome.

Love cup | 1/15/2007, 12:30 pm EST

Fergie is out of camera shot giving Perry a hummer, thus the child like smile. Maybe Nuno is a snake charmer. :)
Please leave Morrison along and give us a break from his crap music. He was a hammered poet, big deal. Perry should have been the lead singer for queens revival.

Love cup | 1/15/2007, 12:31 pm EST

Now Fergie should kiss Maddona on stage.

Getajob | 1/15/2007, 1:49 pm EST

What the hell happened to this website? Rollingstone sucks.

rudeness | 1/15/2007, 2:01 pm EST

first and foremost extreme extremely sucks!!!!!..all of these american rock bands now pretty much suck…the red hot chili peppers should have asked billy corgan how to write a double album…and finally the best american band rock band has to be PEARL JAM….brillant songwriters….can’t wait to hear billy’s and the pumpkins new stuff..can’t wait oh yeah and as far as this hip-hop stuff..the don’t even play instruments..mtv sucks..they don’t even play frikin videos…so how thw hell can they call it music television..they should change their name to ctv..crap tv …

hey joe | 1/15/2007, 2:35 pm EST

Hey rudeness.
If not America, then where is all the good music, it certainly isn’t in England.

Chuck | 1/15/2007, 2:59 pm EST

I saw Jane’s at the Hollywood Palladium during the “Nothing’s Shocking” tour and I was absolutely blown away, they were incredible on stage….until Perry threw a hissy fit and walked off stage after 4 songs. That really pissed me off and made me anti-Perry for several years…I still think he owes me $25 but I cannot dispute the fact that musically, the guy is pretty damn talented.

Brian Jones...Alive! | 1/15/2007, 3:21 pm EST

I dont like this at all. Farrell has no business using Morrison’s voice, I dont want pop/hip hop to do to jim what it eventually did to 2pacs vocal remains. You can now hear the same 2pac lyrics in different songs. Leave the legends alone, they are legends and should not be helping a person like Perry Farrell relaunch their careers. And fergie needs to do hustler and leave music forever

boo boo | 1/15/2007, 6:29 pm EST

i agree with brian jones,Fergie should just do hustler and leave music to the real artists!!!

JR | 1/15/2007, 11:28 pm EST

I love Perry Ferrell but Ishmael is right, he’s just limped along since Jane’s breakup in 91. I think he has more talent in his little finger than most the mass produced shit bands playing now but unfortunately the dude has just written kinda shitty stuff since Ritual.

Betta Recognize | 1/16/2007, 1:57 am EST

Divine, absolutely divine. What a fucking crock. And she earned this right, how? London Bridge? So damn mediocre to throw down an opportunity to resurect Mo Jo Risin by giving the ex-meth head privledge to sing his song. Wow, why don’t you just bring Kanye and Gwen into the mix, Perry and perhaps you can call them “the Whores”… the whores who exploited hip hop and rock n’ roll for the great materialistic mantra of Hollywood, USA.

Div | 1/16/2007, 3:02 am EST

Morrison must be turning in his grave!

JOHNNY SCHUNKE..... | 1/16/2007, 8:36 am EST

The ultra-loaded satellite party will be one of the best albums of the year. Perry Farrell is an inspiring visionary who will again surprise us artistically with this new music…..

westyhead | 1/16/2007, 2:26 pm EST

morrison’s too fat to turn in his grave

tessa backstreet | 1/16/2007, 4:12 pm EST

perry is the greatest singer in the world. i know this will be a success. he’s hot.

jo mama | 1/16/2007, 7:35 pm EST

Anonymous | 1/22/2007, 6:02 pm EST

Extreme officially split in 1995.
Since, Nuno has more than evolved with each solo effort he has released…
Listen to anything from

-Population-1,Mourning Widows,
or DramaGods

and the migraine from 1991 otherwise known as More Than Words
should finally be wiped clean from your memory.

There are a couple bits of media out there that have absolutely convinced me that this pairing of Perry and Nuno is going to be just
insane.

If you look at music nowadays, it’s stale and deriviative. Nuno Bettencourt was the brightest musical talent of the early ninties, although thousands will protest he hardly existed, look on the web to see all the worlds press articles for evidence.

retiredsuperstar | 3/5/2007, 3:57 pm EST

Look beyond his ability to play guitar well – Musically he had what it took to be a musician, and years on he’s still plugging away, proving how much music is in his blood. Remove him from the spotlight and let Oasis pave the way for the ‘future of music’ in the wake of Grunges death and we’re screwed.

retiredsuperstar | 3/5/2007, 3:58 pm EST

Rudeness: I agree, pearl jam are a great band, but play it safe statements like ‘extreme extremely suck’ are easy to say. After the event it’s easy to distance yourself from these ‘american bands’ and forget you bought their records, remember back then friend, these bands sold millions of records and were top of the pile, pretending they never existed is crazy.

Michelle | 11/11/2008, 8:17 pm EST

do not ANYONE dis on my Nuno, he is the ultimate musician, beautiful inside and certainly out….how does that ugly Fergie get to be even on same planet with him!!! i am jealous…he is the ultimate ethereal man.(for those of you dissing him you probably don’t know what that word mean, look it up!)

Nuno is my Portugeuse Guitar Adonis….much love to him…
