You are ignorant w0nderwall. This is what Bush needs to do. We live in such an “instant gratification” society. Look at the long term people! Pulling out now would be a disaster. Believe me, after the democrats gained some seats in the last election, the insurgents in Iraq were celebrating! They’re laughing at us….saying “The Americans are already starting to pull back, we just need to hold out a little longer” They’re laughing at us because the insurgents have lost way more than 3000 people to suicide bombings alone! This is a solid message to the insurgents and the Iraqi people that we are not giving up.

w0nderwall | 1/11/2007, 12:40 pm EST

To my good friend Bodi,

How can my opinion of Bush sending more troops be ignorant? What are they going to do with the political handcuffs they’re wearing anyways? What’s the point of sending more troops when from a militarily standpoint, can’t really do anything but point their M16’s to the enemy and say, hold on, before I shoot, let me call my lawyer? As for the political side of this war, yes, Bush IS an idiot, who can’t even get a grip on reality of what the situation is: the war is over and there is nothing left for us to do. Saddam is dead. Let the Iraqis run their own country however they see fit. If they run it to the ground, that’s on them. If they make it succeed, it’s on them. Not us. This war should not have lasted any longer than the capture of Saddam, if ever at all. I don’t think the war was worth it, too much money, and more importantly, too many lives. Al Gore, the rightful President of the 2000 election I believe would have gone into Afghanistan like Bush did after 9/11. but not Iraq. So Bodi, get over yourself. All Bush did and said in his pathetic 20 minute speech last night was let’s fuck it up more by spending more money and lives. I’d give Bush more credit if he actually spent REAL time there, not some 2 hour bullshit stop to talk to a few people, and then leave. How about actually spending time with the young guys in the shit, seeing what pointlessness they’re going though. How about giving Bush his own M16 so he can patrol Baghdad, actually PARTICIPATE in HIS WAR. But of course, he won’t because he is a coward. His war is over. There is nothing left. Let’s hope our play list speed up the rest of his time in the Oval Office.

Bodi | 1/11/2007, 12:48 pm EST

kidinthebay. I know more about this than you. I have been to both Iraq and Afghanistan and will be going back many more times. You will find servicemembers that disagree with Bush, mainly because they signed up for the wrong reasons. The truth is, the vast Majority of servicemembers agree with Bush.

I was in Iraq for ten months and look forward to serving my country again in the near future over there. This plan by President Bush is exactly what we have needed for a while. Most of the nay sayers are selfish and have yet to do anything for their country or fellow man. The critics talk about us soldiers like they care about us. If they cared, they would support us in our mission. Negative words said here reach our soldiers over there and bring their morale down. Thank God for President Bush and his constant support for us soldiers! And thank God he is not following the inconsistant and idiotic opinions of the Democrats. Democrats have no idea how to win a war, and if they lived in the Revolutionary War times they would have demanded Washington resign.

Let’s review for a minute, many top name Democrats including Hilary Clinton, voted and agreed in Congress to pursue the war in Iraq and against Saddam. But this is the thing about war in any part of the world, it is a performance-business. To the Bush loyalists, as entitled to that as you are, the war has not gone well. The majority of the country at one point supported the war, but since Bush, a moron, couldn’t live up to his own expectations and the expectations of the people, now the people are against it. They have spoken at the polls, they have spoken at the election. It is a vote of no confidence. Stop acting like anything Bush says or does or doesn’t do is doable. It is not. We know this not for a year or two, but four years now. Four years for a policy change, what a lack of respect this so-called Commander in Chief has for his own troops. It’s like he doesn’t want to accept the fact that it is over. We need to bring back our troops and let the Iraqis handle this. If they truly want their country to be a good one, they’ll do it. If not, oh well. You can’t help someone who doesn’t want to be helped.

As a country we should be careful to not confuse our support for politicians creating domestic and foreign policy with our support for the people charged to carry out those policies. As a society we have yet to lose our support for the men and women that put their lives on the line in the name of Freedom, Justice, and Liberty. However, we have clearly lost faith in leaders that have manipulated the efforts of those men and women in the Armed Forces. Fighting terrorism is one thing; Fighting Weapons of Mass Destruction years after we fail to prove that they even existed is a completely different issue. I am not in the military…but I respect what those men and women do every day, REGARDLESS of how little I respect our goverment’s insistence that putting their lives in danger is the right thing to do.

Joe | 1/11/2007, 1:56 pm EST

It’s really not the average serviceman or woman’s fault to defer to Bush; after all, he is their unquestioned leader. But he is NOT MINE. Anyways, keep on believing you are doing “great work” over there. Just come out front and say what the reason is. Americans need a steady supply of oil. Period. Point blank. If you shove a 12 inch knife into the guts of a country and then pull it out 6 inches, you aren’t doing it a favor. But America is “defending freedom” in an oil-rich country. What a coincidence that Halliburton’s (Dick Cheney’s) stock has quintupled since the war. Why aren’t troops standing in North Korea, if they and Bush are so concerned with “freedom”? Whatever. And so on. No one ever learns any different. Keep on believing that Iraq is “great work”. All the US did was silence a “dictator” who did his best work under the auspices of the CIA, Donald Rumsfeld, and George Bush’s daddy in the 1980’s. Saddam knew too much.

If we would have went into Afghanistan before 911 and prevented it, people would have been against it, not knowing what we had prevented. The problem with this war is we can’t prove what we’re preventing. We just know that we can’t sit back like we used to. If we pull out now, chances are, in a couple years or 5 years from now, we’ll have regrets. The whole region, including Syria, Iran, and Iraq would be a bigger safe haven and breading ground for terrorists than anywhere else, ever in the world. No matter how you feel about why we went to war in the first plance, we CANNOT pullout now. There may be a “symbolic” vote in the coming weeks, but if there was a no-shit vote that acutally mattered, most of congress would back the president. Most conservative dems that got elected, did so by expressing their dissapointment with how the war has gone so far. At the same time, they mostly agree that we cannot pull out now. It is a small amount of people in congress, on both sides that agree for an immediate pullout

Bodi | 1/11/2007, 2:13 pm EST

Joe, learn a little:

Oil: My advice, don’t use sources like RS mag for your info. All legitimate dems and republicans agree that it is a far leftist argument to use the term “war for oil.” Truth: we only get a small amount of our oil from the region (less than 4%)

Haliburton: Truth is Haliburton has a monopoly on what it does. Clinton was hugh on Haliburton during his presidency because no other corp. can do what Halibuton does. By the way, concerning Cheyney’s stock going up with Haliburton: He still gets paid by Haliburton, but they are deferred payments for work he did a long time ago. Cheney did not benefit at all by the administration’s work with Haliburton. He recieved all his gains with Haliburton during Clinton’s presidency.

North Korea: We are still in the deplomacy stages. North Korea hasn’t violated 17 UN resolutions yet.

Captain Repenning- your incredible delusion is frankly saddening. It’s obvious that while you may know what the situation on the ground is like, you know precious little else. “Nay sayers” (as you call them) are one of the things that makes this country great; they provide a diversity of viewpoints and foster debate. If you and the soldiers you serve with can’t deal with some criticism of the war then maybe you should serve in the military of a dictatorship where your sensitive feelings will be safe from dissenting opinions. It’s incredible that you could actually say that Bush supports the troops. Isn’t this the same President who sent you to Iraq with inadequate body armor and supplies, no plan for securing the country, and imposes involuntary tours of duty on you. Is that what you call support? Perhaps on your next trip over you should pick up a history book and look up your precious Republican party and its history. You might find out that the Republicans are the biggest bunch of hypocrites when it comes to the troops. They claim they’re the military’s best friend while slashing veteran benefits and measures designed to help current forces. What, also, is this delusion you have about Democrats and war? Have you ever taken a history course in your life? I know there are a lot of stupid people in this country who believe that the Democrats are weak on defense but the fact of the matter is that it was a Democratic president who oversaw victory in World War II while Republican presidents oversaw a stalemate in Korea and defeat in Vietnam. What a great legacy. I hope you have a chance to wake up before its too late. You may know how to lead a group of men, but you know jackshit about strategy, politics, or history.

Captain’s not that delusional. Lets face it, the dems are worse off if we succeed in Iraq. The reason for this is because they CHOSE to bash him in order to gain in the recent elections. They all supported him to begin with but when they could gain politically, they bashed him. It’s funny, most of the dems agree that we shouldn’t pull out yet. They gained in the election for no reason…..just for agreeing with the American people that they weren’t happy with how things were goin. They put politics first. Case in hand, today, everyone’s wondering about how Hillary and Obama should respond to Bush’s surge in order to put them in position in 08. It shouldn’t be about 08. It should be about succeeding in Iraq. More troops is what we need to succeed over there. We all know where McCain and Guliani stand. 3000 troops dead…….that’s a tremendous sacrifice, however, coming from a service member, I may change my mind about pulling out if nothing’s changed over there after 10,000. May sound harsh, but failure over there will turn thounds into millions.

Bodi | 1/11/2007, 4:48 pm EST

haaa likroper! The national debt? It’s funny how people try and point to that. Its just a number. Think about it. How does it affect any american’s life? Does anybody out there feel like they’re afected by a number? We’re at war folks. That’s expensive. By the way, the debt has been cut in half ahead of schedule. The national debt? I still can’t understand how anyone anywhere could still think any more time in Iraq is still a good idea, let alone going there in the first place? I’ll admit, I gave Bush the benefit of the doubt, I’m man enough to say that. But we’re talking 2007 now, and there is nothing to show for this war. No WMDs, a joke of Saddam’s trial, Civil War breaking out, insurgency out of control, and most importantly, Americans dead and dying, suffering, hurting. Where is the good? I’ll even recognize that the mainstream media in America IS left-wing biased, but when the President actually does say something, there is not a speck of confidence or an ability to convince anyone that this was ever a good idea. The people gave him his shot at getting Iraq to work out. It hasn’t, and sending 21,000 more LIVES won’t make a difference. Let’s bring our guys home, so they can party with us. Enough is enough Mr. President, if you really are one.

Joe | 1/12/2007, 10:32 am EST

No, “Bodi”, I don’t get my source from RS, thank you very much. I’m talking about the word “freedom.” Forget UN resolutions and all that nonsense. You didn’t hear Bush telling the American public we are “liberating” Iraq because they violated 17 UN resolutions. No, Saddam was a “bloodthirsty dictator” denying freedoms to his people. Is that happening in North Korea? It’s funny how you parrot Bush when that country comes up. “We are still in diplomacy stages.” Do you have a mouse in your pocket? At least you are smart enough to admit to Halliburtons’ role in all of this. Hey, what kind of work was Cheney doing long ago, by the way? I’m SURE you remember when the Iran-Iraq War was raging how great a friend Saddam Hussein was for the US. So great that he received a lot of weapons (chemical included, to commit his “atrocities”) from the good old US of A. Remember Rummy shaking his hand on the cover of Newsweek? How naive to think Cheney, Rummy, and the Bushes are not getting their asses wiped with hundred dollar bills right now. But go for it. Oh and another thing. How come we aren’t invading another dictatorship, Saudi Arabia? They deny freedoms as well. TELL ME THE REASONS THE US SELECTED IRAQ OVER NORTH KOREA, IRAN, SAUDI ARABIA, SOMALIA, ETC.

It’s a bloodlust over the brown-skiined Muslims, folks. That simple. Just admit it to yourselves and move on to domination.

Joe | 1/12/2007, 2:17 pm EST

Oh and by the way, if the “war on terror” is being fought in Iraq against “insurgents” (read: indigenous population reacting to being invaded), is that where Osama Bin Laden is? Anybody remember that guy? Public Enemy Number One? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? How hard is it to find a 6′8″ giant-bearded guy with a huge nose probably lugging around a portable dialysis kit? Nice bait-and-switch, CIA.

Bodi | 1/12/2007, 9:19 pm EST

By the way, there’s a whole lot more going on in the hunt for Osama than anybody knows. I like how people say that going into Iraq was a distraction from Afghanistan. Fact: There were more troops in Afghanistan AFTER we went into Iraq than before. We are pursuing terrorism on all fronts. The recent strikes in Somalia is an example of that. By the way, Saudi Arabia hasn’t had a history of killing hundreds of thousands of its own people with WMD’s. Saddam did. Who knows, maybe we should have went into Iran first……but both Iran and Saddam were actively pursuing more WMDs and we were going off the intel we had (that includes John Kerry, Hillary, etc). My main argument is for where we go from here. We cannot pullout. A lot of you guys believe in appeasement. That’s how Hitler got so big, because no one did anything about him before it was almost too late. Islamic fundamentalism, not Islam, is a growing threat, similar to what Nazism and Communism once were. We need to nip this early. Pulling out now would mean a terrorist strong hold, right in the middle of Iran and Syria. If we pullout now, we’ll be forced to go back there in the future. There’s a good chance when that happens, people will say “we should have just stayed a little longer back in 2007/2008.”

Joe | 1/15/2007, 1:52 pm EST

Wow, I can’t believe someone is still trotting out that old WMD misinformation. If Saddam had ANY WMD’s, there were DIRECTLY supplied to him by the Central Intelligence Agency, U.S. Division, back in the 1980’s, to use without reprisal against Iran. It has been proven over and over and over that Saddam’s capabilities for so-called “WMD’S” were non-existent OR DESTROYED in the first Iraq invasion. I love this “we” shit too. “We” are fighting terrorism on all fronts. The New Cold War gets created to bulk up bloated military defense contracts and everybody’s eyes glaze over and say “terrorism”. State-sponsored terrorism has been practiced by Israel, and funded by U.S. MORE THAN ANY OTHER COUNTRY, for decades, and no one here bats en eye. “The Palestinians are terrorists.” OK, sure. Kick down the door of MY house with a gun and see what I do. I put it like this. I was born free. I will defend the freedom of me and my family. Freedom IS free. No one is fighting for it in Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, or anywhere else. Believe what you want. I refuse to fall in line with anything they tell me to.

Bodi | 1/16/2007, 3:15 pm EST

Hell, we could do this forever………

Joe | 1/16/2007, 6:19 pm EST

Absolutely. Like I said, believe what you want, just don’t believe what THEY want. If you think the motives of our government in another country have ANYTHING to do other than lining their coffers with more green, then they have you. Like John Lennon said, “Follow the money.” I’m done here.

Bodi | 1/16/2007, 9:32 pm EST

What the fuck dude, Cmon. What’s this THEY shit? Like our govt is this evil empire. Gimme a break. What a waste! On another note, John Lennon is overrated.
