Not technically a live show…but the filmed stage performance single-handedly pulled Soul Brother Number One’s career off the mat. Brown and the Flames floored filmgoers with the killer single that would become his final charting hit while Apollo Creed dances his way to the ring to be beaten to death by Evil Ivan Drago.

Always was a good song. Living in America was written by Dan Hartman, who a couple years before that had a top ten hit,I can Dream about you, from Streets of Fire movie, and he also wrote and sang Free Ride for the Edgar Winter Group back in the 70s. I feel good!.

Dan originally penned and recorded the song for himself, then decided to give it to James Brown. If you’re curious, listen to it on Dans greatest hits album. I miss Dan…he was so overlooked and underrated…a true American pop song genius!
