Flying Burrito Brother Pete Kleinow Dead At 72, Morrissey To Rock For His Country? And More

  • Pete Kleinow, who co-founded the Flying Burrito Brothers with the Byrds’ Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons, has reportedly died. The rocker, who also recorded with John Lennon and Joni Mitchell during his career, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s several years ago, and was living in a nursing home. He was 72.
  • Morrissey is reportedly so appalled by his country’s poor showing in this year’s Eurovision songwriting contest (the UK apparently came in 19th out of 24 countries, despicable) that he’s considering writing next year’s entry himself.
  • Just cause he’s been indulging his literary ambitions doesn’t mean that 50 Cent has lost his edge in the music making department. The rapper is reportedly dead sick of detractors who claim G-Unit is OVER. “One project doesn’t work and G-Unit is over?” he fumed. “What about 50? I’mma smash their head as soon as I come back.” Haters: Expect your heads to be smashed sometimes this spring, that’s when 50s new album Before I Self Destruct is due.
  • When asked what keeps him interested in the music business, Noel Gallagher responded by saying, “14 million quid in the bank account.” Fair enough.

I guess Morrissey is going to make certain that England finishes last next year, good for him.

Eurovision is not a “songwriting” contest.

I wanna get high, read some Gatsby, and listen to some music.

nathan | 1/9/2007, 12:04 pm EST

I like that Noel is one of the few artists to actually admit the real reason he still loves music. I can’t see Mick Jagger or Paul McCartney ever being that honest.

I met “Sneaky Pete” when was playing with late Rick Nelson in Nashville circa 1973 or 1974. Very nice guy.

When asked why he still reads Rolling Stone, Noel responded, “Awe, simple. Elizabeth Goodman. She ain’t have a fuckin’ clue, I tell you. “

I think Sneaky Pete played on Frank Zappa’s Waka Jawaka album. A killer little solo, it is.

Everyone should leave Noel Gallagher alone. Nobody ever dreamed of being a broke ass rock star. GIRLS and MONEY. Fuck the whales, dolphins, owls…..

Neeple Socks | 1/9/2007, 5:49 pm EST

Has Peter Kleinow only reportedly died? Or is he actually dead? Is Morrissey reportedly appalled? Or is he actually nothing of the sort? C’mon, get your facts straight. Report! Or maybe you can only reportedly report. And what use is that to anybody?

Lobsters | 1/9/2007, 9:36 pm EST

I remember the hippies who worked in our local record store when I was a kid loved The Flying Burrito Brothers. We’d come in to pick up records by Kiss and Aerosmith and they’d look at us like we were monkeys. We thought they were old farts. Think I’ll go to the store and pick up a Burritos CD. Nah, I’m gonna get Fall Out Boy.
