Participate In The Swirling Of Police Reunion Rumors!

1/3/07, 4:41 pm EST

The Police

Billboard reports that people ensconced within the Police camp are indirectly confirming the recent flurry of Police reunion rumors. This year mark’s the band’s 30-year anniversary (what is that, pearls?) and last month a representative from the band’s label coyly commented that the long-hoped-for Police reunion tour might finally take place in honor of this occasion. “It is our intention to mark the anniversary by doing something special with the band’s catalogue of songs,” the statement read. “Needless to say, everyone is hopeful the band will support our plans and while early discussions have taken place, nothing has been decided.”

That started the frenzy, but now that sources in the know are reluctantly saying the rumors legit (without actually coming out an confirming anything publicly), we have a feeling we’re gonna start seeing tickets for theoretical concert dates up for sale on eBay. What would you pay to see the Police at Madison Square Garden or the Hollywood Bowl?

Why are people calling The Police money-grubbers? Many bands (Yes, the rock band KISS included (to the poster below)) charge way too much money for concerts. But don’t take it all out solely on The Police. Look at The Stones for godoness’ sake. $1,500 for Las Vegas tickets about five years ago? Give me a break!

DEAR ROLLING STONE MAGAZINE: PLEASE DELIVER THIS MESSAGE DIRECTLY TO STING AND THE POLICE IF YOUVE GOT THE GUTS !!!HEY AGHAST: YOU ARE A COMPLETE LEGEND AND I WOULD LOVE TO CONGRATULATE YOU MATE ON BEING 100% CORRECT. I WENT ON ONE TICKET SITE AND ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK FRONT ROW IN FRONT OF THE BAND DEAD CENTRE MADISON SQUARE GARDENS $6000 U.S AND OTHER SEATS AROUND THAT WERE AROUND $2500. OTHER GIGS WERE $450 TO $1500+ FOR REALLY REALLY GOOD SEATS. BUT FOR $ 140 TO $250 WERE CRAPPY SEATS. SO WHAT STING WAS JUST SITTIN AROUND ONE DAY AND THOUGHT AFTER 23 YEARS MAYBE I WILL RING STEWART AND ANDY AND SEE WHAT THERE DOING WHAT I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE GREAT ROCK N ROLL SWINDLE WAS THE SEX PISTOLS.IM NOT TELLING PEOPLE NOT TO GO SEE THEM FOR THOSE WHO WILL FORK OUT BIG MONEY I ASK YOU TO JUST REMEMBER ONE THING WE THE PEOPLE MADE THE POLICE GREAT. WE THE PEOPLE BOUGHT THE ALBUMS THE T SHIRTS. WE THE PEOPLE WENT TO THE CONCERTS AND WE THE PEOPLE WERE THERE RIGHT FROM THE BEGINING 1978. DOES STING HAVE SO LITTLE DISREGARD FOR THE PEOPLE WHO MADE HIM WHO HE IS. I DONT THINK HE CARES LESS ABOUT ME AND YOU BUDDIE AND AFTER 23 YEARS HE DOESNT CARE LESS ABOUT THE POLICE FANS. I HAVE LOST ALL RESPECT FOR STING AND THE POLICE I WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER OFF LISTENING TO KIZZ AT LEAST THEY LOOK AFTER THERE FANS. AGHAST | 3/11/2007, 5:47 pm EST

Anyone that would pay 100.00 to join The Police Fan Club to get “exclusive presale” and then turn around and pay between 90 for crappy seats to 250 for ‘good seats’ not to mention the Stings own fan club you get to shell out 65.00 to kiss his feet DESERVES TO GET F***D. The Police have into just what Sting predicted himself in the 1980’s just another “megaband reunion tour because they need the money” The Police already got my money when I bought their vinyl & CD’s dont need to give them and the RIAA more

Big Al | 2/16/2007, 12:26 am EST

To A:

To suggest that The Police could have gone the way of The Beatles is ridiculous! Band morale was very high at the end of The Synchronicity Tour and Andy Summers has himself expressed his disappointment in the fact that the band did not continue. He believes they had many albums left in them and was even more annoyed they did not do a final tour for their fans. Don’t get me wrong, I love The Police but I wouldn’t spend $500 to see them! Maybe it’s best left to the man Sting himself who quoted in an interview in 1980 “The only time a Megaband get back together is when they need the money. And the minute The Police are no longer useful to me I’ll will drop them like a rock”. Enjoy your $500 concert!

A | 2/15/2007, 9:37 pm EST

Regarding the comment directly below, would you rather they went the way of the Beatles? In 23 years, if they had been together and toured, would you have spent a total of $300 to $500 dollars to see them over the years? I, for one, am elated they are back.

Big Al | 2/14/2007, 7:57 pm EST

To Matt:

I don’t think it really matters when they formed - there was a few months in both bands. I agree with what you said about The Police jumping on the punk bandwagon to get early gigs and also with a hint of reggae which created space in their sound especially stuff from Regatta De Blanc. Technically Andy with his atmospheric guitar sounds and Copeland the machine driving the band - they couldn’t lose!! As a fan of The Police I’m not sure how I feel about them reforming. I think if Sting was truly genuine about The Police they would re-record. But why tour now, why now??? In 1990 I’m there, in 1995 I’m there, in 2007……I don’t know! I’ve been sitting here for 23 years waiting for them to reform, and now I’m an old man. Their last concert was March 1984 - Melbourne showgrounds - which I was at. And I lived and breathed The Police - but to walk away like Sting did and for so long sucks. Andy & Stewart have been trying to reform the band for 10 years. Apparently Matt,Sting is gonna get his truck licence to drive the dump truck with all our money in it back to England!!! I feel sorry for Andy, Stewart ’cause they obviously have a real love for the music and I’m a little concerned that us suckers are going to pay $300-$500 for a good seat.

PS I take back the ‘retard’ comment.

Sheriffsposse | 2/13/2007, 5:31 pm EST

First saw the Police, Sept 1983 - Day On The Green #3 - Oakland, CA.

I like the Police (and definately would love to see them again), In some ways I’d much rather see a reunion of all those who headlined with the Police that day; The Fixx, Madness, Oingo Boingo & The Thompson Twins. It was a great day!

Back then, we played hacky-sac 20 feet from the stage (Yes! there was that much room even with the a full stadium). I still have my ticket stub, the cost of entry was $27 to see all those bands

There are many ticket sites already selling tics for the Police concert dates. Additionally cities (per Bestbuy.com site) include:

Chicago, IL
Columbus, OH
Detroit, MI
Edmonton, AB
Hartford, CT
Los Angeles, CA
Miami, FL
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN
San Jose/Oakland, CA
Tampa, FL
Washington, D.C./Baltimore, MD

I guess the day of affordability is out the window these days. Tickets ranged from $190 (nose bleed sections) to $2,892 (floor sections) per ticket. OUCH! Most average 3rd floor seats are $250. All venues appear to be big stadiums.

There have critics & music industry blogs, estimating over 1 Million will seem them, if in fact they perform. Estimates are at an average of $500/ticket, it would bring in in excess of $500 Million in ticket sales alone. How much money do all these musicians need?!

I fear many a Police fan, new & old, will not be able to afford the prices.

Maybe we could name the tour “The Police - Highway Robbery Tour”

Mike | 2/13/2007, 1:47 am EST

Who’s more obnoxious than Sting? W. Mott Hupfel III.

A | 2/12/2007, 8:51 pm EST

Saw them in 1983 - first concert I ever attended. Happy they are back…now if only Joan Jett will be the opening act again.

Hey Big Al @ 2/10/2007, 7:14 pm EST

Re:
>Matt, you are obviously a complete f**king >retard!!! The Police were around well before >the Clash.

Wrong. The Clash formed in 1976 - the Police formed in ‘77. While I agree with you that the Police were far better technical musicians than just about any punk band, I would say that the Police were punk for those afraid of punk and they were reggae for those who knew little about reggae. They were a very good pop band that knew how to incorporate just the right amount of both (musically and visually) without offending anyone (except those into reggae and punk rock).
Hopefully they won’t try to produce a new album. Most of the Police’s albums were Sting penned and we all know where he’s gone since the band’s breakup. Maybe Sting should finally let Copeland take a swing at it (and him).

DC | 2/12/2007, 1:06 pm EST

I thought I had died and gone to heaven when I heard news of an Eagles reunion. I guess now that the Police are planning a tour, you’ll have to dig me up out of the grave and get me on my feet to be in the first row. If SC is not the greatest rock drummer of all time, he certainly deserves a face on Mt. Drum-More with Moon, Peart and Bonham. Can’t wait. They were supremely tight on the Grammy’s and didn’t play it simple either.

stilts | 2/12/2007, 12:03 pm EST

I snuck out and watched the Synchronicity Tour from outside the gate in Foxboro back in ‘83. It was killer! Definately like a hard drug, though, because I’m still having withdrawals 25 years later. Later on in May of ‘04 saw Sting at Mohegan for the Broken Music Tour- didn’t realize he would be opening up an old closet full of Police stuff- check out what he had to say:

“It’s fun to revisit the past, as long as you don’t go back permanently,” he says during a day off in New York. “I’d actually forgotten about some of those songs, but I’m very proud of them.”

Regarding his decision to play campuses, he adds, “I thought it was an interesting idea, to play to general-admission houses and a younger demographic. It’s been exciting — it’s brought out a side of me that’s been buried for a while…”

We’ll see?
BTY- Saw Copeland with Oysterhead-SICK!

I’d sell car to get tix to Police Reunion

CNS | 2/11/2007, 8:18 pm EST

Saw the Police in Montreal during the Synchronicity Stadium Tour and also remember all the hype when they played “Le Spectrum” (a small famous venue) on Ste. Catherine street the day before.

It was a private taping event for Cable TV and people around town were scrambling to get a ticket. It was all over the news and unexpected. Sort of like when U2 filmed “Where the streets .. ” video in LA and all the hype.

Unfortunately I never got to see the Spectrum show, but managed to tape it when it aired. The city loves the Police and they certainly have strong ties to La Belle Province (Quebec). They recorded material for there last two albums here. Without a doubt we’d welcome them back with open arms.

They truly were a great band. It was all about the sound and chemistry. Sting got a swollen head and well the rest is history. I’ve never been a true Sting fan since. I’ve always had great respect for Stewart and Andy. I’ve met Andy twice in MTL on his solo tours and am hoping to meet him for a third.

I would certainly pay to see them again.

They were an inspiration to lots of their fans and many bands including U2.

Bring on a tour!

Big Al | 2/10/2007, 7:14 pm EST

Matt, you are obviously a complete f**king retard!!! The Police were around well before the Clash. The Clash were known as a bunch of top guys but they didn’t know a 4th chord. And for Clash music that’s ok but don’t compare them to the Police as technically they are miles apart. What next - the Beatles sound like the Village People?????? Lol

mike | 2/8/2007, 9:20 am EST

The Police: when the incredible ex-Curved Air drummer plays with the adventurous and pioneering ex-Soft Machine guitarist and hires a pop-singer/songwriter for his songs and ‘refuckulates’ those songs into stunning 80’s progressive rock loved even by pop fans. Copeland and Summers, welcome back…you are the true Police. Yes, if they lay off Sting’s pop songs and play the masterful works of Regatta, Zenyatta, and Ghost…you should sell your left testicle to get a ticket!

Pee in the Sahara | 2/6/2007, 11:33 pm EST

Don’t count on anything beyond the Grammy’s on Monday. Enjoy one last glimpse.

Rick | 2/6/2007, 9:25 am EST

I saw Sting’s “private show” at Irving Plaza, NYC … Broken Music; may 17, 2005. It had some good energy. I know andy, stewart, and sting can make it happen again. If you were at that show .. you’d believe. Bring it on . . .

Henri Matovani | 2/5/2007, 3:51 pm EST

I would see the Police even if I had to eat chineese food first.

I hope they play Fenway Park in Boston, which is a wicked good place to see over the hill acts for the big money, wannbe hipster, old foggie-set (The Boss, Jimmy Buffet).

PS: Gordon Sumner is a right aunt.

Alabaster Master | 2/5/2007, 1:45 pm EST

I have only one regret in life - I never got to see The Police live.

The release of their box-set was an ear-gasm for all Police fans, but rumors of a runion tour really has everyone buzzing!

A Huge Police Fan | 2/4/2007, 12:38 pm EST

The first Police album, let alone album I ever bought was Synchronicity. The Police are my favorite band, hands down. While Sting might have the tendency to play slow, he quickly became my favorite solo artist next to P. Gabriel. I have long hoped I would once see the Police live. To hear the news that one of the greatest bands ever to record, ever to play, might soon be touring again was just about the best news I could hear i nthe world of music. Sting, Andy, Stewart, it’s time to ROCK again!

Stewart's Band Ruled | 2/3/2007, 11:52 pm EST

The reunion will be great as long as Sting puts his ego down, speeds up the pace, and plays the songs the way they were meant to be played. Watch old footage of them live and notice how much animosity Sting showed when Stewart would speed up the tempo. Sting deserves the big finger. His solo stuff is fine musically, but he is weak.

message from a fan | 2/1/2007, 10:21 am EST

I cannot believe all this hype! I opened the paper yesterday and saw a small blurb about The Police reuniting for the Grammys and I leapt to my feet. I went crazy! Then I looked on the web and saw all the rumours and it got me thikning. Why would The Police do the Grammys as a one off show if it did not lead to something bigger? The appetite is whetted and the television audience will be huge, so it is a perfect opportunity to announce plans for an impending tour. I was 9 when I bought my 1st album: Synchronicity. I am a HUGE Police fan. Anyone that knows me at all knows that. I never had the chance to see them. I wonder if those guys really know the impact a tour would have on their fans. I started to get all teary-eyed a little bit ago. Seeing them live will truly be a highpoint for me. And if not, at least I still have the music and all this talk has been very exciting. Please come to Cleveland guys! You are enshrined here as immortals! And please remember to rock out like you know you can. Remind the world of the power of The Police onstage!

Kevin | 2/1/2007, 1:15 am EST

I was lucky enough to see The Police in 83′. They were a great live band in that they jammed on and expanded their songs. It’s amazing that 3 guys could play with such restraint and subtlety and then turn on the power on command. With all such reunions I think about all the what could have beens? The Beatles, The Clash etc. What the heck. Play some shows, make some money, and make a lot of fans really happy. Andy is at retirement age and could certainly use the cash.

Greg McGuinness | 1/31/2007, 2:48 pm EST

Who’s the sponsor going to be?
Microsoft Vista? Apple?

Who thinks it will be arena only in the US, multiple nights to keep costs down and the ticket price up? I’m betting $180 min. ticket.

Hurst Olds | 1/30/2007, 8:14 pm EST

If they do have a reunion tour….. LET’S SEE THEM IN TORONTO!!!!

potter | 1/29/2007, 3:35 pm EST

I saw The Police on their last tour. It was so much more than I expected, professional, tight, a ton of energy, joyful. Even though I stood on asphalt at a big outdoor show, I’ll never forget how excellent they were and the good time I had. That show stands out in my memory. If they do it, hopefully they still got it.

the joel | 1/28/2007, 2:16 pm EST

saw them in 80 and 83. met them. played in a police cover band. huge fan. still angry with sting for calling it.copeland and summers are back in shape (andy never stopped) it will probably only be a few shows- i have no interest in seeing it, however as the music hasn’t aged that well.

eegnuts | 1/27/2007, 9:39 pm EST

Saw ‘Water-less” Pink Floyd reunion in ‘87, Eagles reunion, 2 Who “farewell” concerts, but this would be the best one of them all…

Sting should have gotten off his pompous tantric nutter ass and did this 10 to 15 years ago. Anyway you slice it… it’ll out gross any Beatles or Who, or Pink Floyd Reunion.

what? | 1/23/2007, 11:39 am EST

As someone just young enough to have missed The Police live, but old enough to realize how great they were at the time, I’ve wanted to see them for the last 25 years. I bought the first 5 Sting solo albums, then finally had enough distance to realize that the there was a clear downward trend in the quality of his output. the best tracks on dream of the blue turtles (by FAR his best solo work) sound like Police songs without Andy & Stewart (it’s not a stretch to imagine “Love Is the 7th Wave” was rejected from “Ghost in the Machine” or that “Fortress Around Yourr Heart” would fit very nicely between “King of Pain” and “Wrapped Around Your Finger”).
Having said all this, I’m a little bummed about this reunion. It just feels like Sting’s career has cooled off (his last tour had the most Police music of any in his career) to the point that the only way he can make a pop culture splash is to get the boys back together. I don’t think this is about $$ for Sting (even though I’m sure they’d each clear $25-30m on a world tour), it’s about his ego (what else is new?).
The greatest thing about The Police is that in their 6 years together, there is not one second of them being anything less than awesome. I hope a reunion tour doesn’t change that.

ET | 1/22/2007, 4:13 pm EST

Do Dublin! Do Dublin! Do Dublin!
Theres nothing as good as an irish audience!! Having said that, i’m flying to wherever in the world they play - if they do - wouldnt miss it for the world. Please, Please, Please, do it for us one more time.

Chippy | 1/22/2007, 3:08 pm EST

Well i went to all the Police Picnic’s in Toronto, and have seen Sting Live. I kinda felt like i aged with Sting, Maybe getting back with Andy and Stew would be what he needs to get some of his youthful energy he used to have. The man used to jump on stage like no tomorrow! I have been listening to alot of today’s music, then listen to the Police Song “Landlord”. Mmm yep thier music still rocks. What I wouldnt give to see them do “Peanuts” Live!!!!!

I began my musical career playin Police tunes on the bass. I recenlty saw Rush on their 30 year reunion tour and they were great. I know if Sting decides to do it, it will be worth all the money I can afford to see them live again.

Stingbee | 1/17/2007, 10:27 pm EST

Thos post of you guys not respecting Sting’s solo career tell me that you don’t know much about music. Sting’s solo material encompassed music from all corners of the world. His solo stuff was complex: listen to “Nothing like the Sun”…Sting’s first solo album didn’t sound like anything else on the radio at that time. You should respect a musician that goes and tries something that he believed with his heart. Please stop comparing him to Phil Collins: Phil Collins music is cheesy and one-dimensional. And above all, Phil Collins doesn’t have the intelligence or the creativty that Sting had with his music.

As for the Police, One of the greatest bands, and by far, the most important reunion.

Slak | 1/16/2007, 2:31 pm EST

Stewart Copeland is the best percussionist in the world. The Cops did it all. Reggae, punk, pop, etc. They made album-oriented music that defined a generation but The Police were even better on stage.
How many bands today touch upon subjects such as the JFK assassination (Born in the 50’s), technology’s inability to solve all problems but instead create new ones (Driven to Tears) and finally, religious faith in a higher power (Invisible Sun and My God)?
Whether or not the Police reunite is not important. What matters is that people are talking about the Police again. And in my opinion, that is a very worthy topic.

"SOUTHIE" | 1/15/2007, 10:22 am EST

I’ve seen the Band many of times “IN THE DAY”. I was never disappointed. I’m sick of most of the music that is put out today.Hip Hop, BEE bop, you can have it. I maybe old as my kids say, but I love to ROCK.Without sound effects the bands now don’t have shit!!! 3 guys in a band, Bass,Guitar,& a Drummer.Hall of Fame-2003. Lets get back to basics.I say let’em ROCK.

Dave | 1/13/2007, 7:36 am EST

Would hate to see a reunion, I have much more respect for the band as they were, I would rather remember them as they were. I never saw them live though and that is a great shame.
Having said that, I would be first in line to buy the tickets though. I just couldn’t stay away.
I don’t see any chance of those small intimate venues, they would come back as they left, HUGE! Stadiums would be filled and prices will be high. Still I don’t think that Australia would be on the tour list EVER (We only get about half of the Sting tours, and I’ve only heard of one tour by Andy).

I’d just be happy to have the memories - and by the sound of it ANOTHER box set in my collection.

Main | 1/11/2007, 5:22 am EST

Sting’s solo Police remakes don’t represent the originals too well. For one thing, they’re about half the speed.

airhead | 1/10/2007, 2:45 am EST

screw sting, bring back oysterhead, Stewart is the real heartbeat inside the Police! stop and think about what you like about them, you’ll discover it’s the drums and the guitar, who needs sting anyway

Swivelhead | 1/9/2007, 6:50 pm EST

I’ve been a huge Police fan since they started, but was never able to see them before they broke up. Sure, I bought the first 3 or 4 Sting solo albums, but lost interest in his continuing watered down brand of Phil Collins-esque middle age rock. Years later, I attended the Live 8 concert in London during the Summer of 2005, mainly to see Pink Floyd. If Sting wasn’t such a head case, he would have had the decency to invite Stuart and Andy to join him onstage for this special day. I’ll never forget watching Sting’s set that day in the Gold circle area thinking how bad the other 2 guys must have felt, wherever they were, while Sting and his Generation Y band ripped through all Police songs in their set. Needless to say, I split for the restroom. I will, however, be there when they reform. With the Police, the sum is truly greater then it’s parts.

I would pay any amount of money to see them anywhere! I am a big Police fan & their music is incredible. They still have their chops & I think that they could put egos aside this time & just have a great time together.

colchesterguide | 1/6/2007, 5:32 am EST

The Police were awesome and much better live than in the studio where the music had a real edge and came alive! If this is true it would be fantastic.

sfc | 1/5/2007, 6:34 pm EST

If they do… when they do, do, do… hope the boys remember their minimalist core. How they loved to fill the open spaces with their own instruments and not a myriad of “others.” Stewart’s cadence and machine gun backfill was amazing.

Glenn | 1/5/2007, 12:20 am EST

Sting is not a dick - I have met him 5 times over the course of 8 years and he was nice every time and remembered me. He’s human and allowed to be in a bad mood sometimes. That being said ticket prices will be extremely high but for a good seat I’d pay.

MsRed | 1/4/2007, 9:33 pm EST

I won’t pay the the obscene prices some tours want these days. $60 is about my limit. But this is one show I’d pay big dollars for and go just about anywhere in the country to see. Bring it on!!!!

cari | 1/4/2007, 8:10 pm EST

That reunion would be great!
I also would travel to China to see them!

maven | 1/4/2007, 7:41 pm EST

I have been into rock and roll for over 40 yrs and I am just sick to death of white pimply faced punks over several generations insisting that it’s not rock and roll unless it’s only guitar and drums.

Keyboard and sax have been in rock and roll since the beginning as well as back up vocalists. (that’s all Sting added at least at first–and they didn’t say Springsteen wasn’t rocking with the same thing) And I have loved the fuller sound in rock and roll for all of that time. Okay, so Sting has an ego–most creative people do–but foray into lute aside, he has always been able to rock with the absolute best of them. So he wanted more and he wanted to direct and arrange–why make it a character flaw when it was musical growth. I like Police albums, but you know damn well that many of the tunes had other instruments and overdubbing and other studio tricks.

Summers and Copeland were absolutely great and and I’m sure still are. Sting is a great bassist, songwriter, and singer. Do remember rock screaming gets a little harder after 30-40 years.
Ask Daltry and Plant.

So get ready for a Police reunion–bet there are other musicians on stage–and appreciate it for what it is and what they all added to the musical lexicon. No band will last forever–but rock and roll will never die.

POLICE FAN 4 EVER | 1/4/2007, 5:19 pm EST

FINALLY!!!! I’ve been waiting 22 years for this…dont let us down.
I saw Sting 6 times, Andy twice, and Stewart with Oysterhead in Cleveland….I dont know if im dreaming right now, but please dont let it end!@

Sum Young Guy | 1/4/2007, 4:10 pm EST

I’d go see them if I had to travel to China.

beds too big | 1/4/2007, 2:38 pm EST

I think all three still have their chops. (especially Andy and Stewart)….I think STing is capable of incrediable live performances….I have always defended sting and his solo work….until Brand New Day and Sacred love….I got excited by his new medival music (maybe this would energize him out of muzak? I foolishly thought)…Sting it sucked, I always support an artists muse…but it didn’t work. Ditch the ego and reunite for the fun of live shows with your great songs played by the original band (no keyboards, horns or back up singers please!) back to basic’s jamming. Gordon you do that and you will make another soul cages when you go back to solo (great record)

Philbee | 1/4/2007, 2:31 pm EST

Should have happened 10 years ago….oh wait, they should not have broken up at all. His Lordship Sting is such a pompous ass that he successfully alienated he biggest fans. Gordo, no matter what fool instrument you pull out…nothing you do as a solo artist will equal the greatness that was The Police.

IMightBeWrong | 1/4/2007, 2:29 pm EST

Being in my mid-twentys, and the fact the these guys haven’t toured together since ‘86 - it’s pretty evident I have never seen them play. However, while not exactly a Police fanatic - I’d jump for joy at the opportunity to see them. I have a wealth of respect regarding these musicians and the songs they crafted. Probably the best pop music of the ’80s. Seeing as how we’re almost surely never getting my Talking Heads reunion (David Byrne = ass), this is as good a reunion as any to get on the bandwagon with. I say go for it - and Sting, if you’re out there… have a word with Mr. Byrne if you could - I’d appreciate it.

Mr Gradenko | 1/4/2007, 2:05 pm EST

I think they should sign on the dotted line and go for it.. I’d love to see them play live and Sting’s Broken Music Tour shows the old classics are still fresh.

steveo | 1/4/2007, 1:55 pm EST

i saw them when i was a freshman in college (Zenyatta Mendatta tour). Have an autographed album from all 3 still and many memories of a very intimate concert at the Paramount theater in Seattle. I regularly play thorugh their catalog (bass player) and marvel at not only the innovation, but the voice, like no other before or since. I’ll go for sure.

Rees | 1/4/2007, 1:13 pm EST

I’m sorry if you don’t like Sting as an solo artist or his lute…But the point is, he truly is a musical genius in all sense of the word. Continue poking fun at one of the greatest musical artists of our time, I can guarantee he’s wealthier, more intelligent and rock’s harder than your mom in the bedroom.
The point of a Police reunion would be to give final closure to the fans who never got one. Remember, the Police went on “sabbatical” in ‘84 and never returned. One of the Greatest rock bands ever, period. Pay your money and enjoy the hell out of them.

Maccreate | 1/4/2007, 12:58 pm EST

Without any new material, what would be the point? The Police were a great, late 70’s band. I agree Sting is an a-hole. Met him once backstage in Cleveland during his first solo tour, what a jerk!

Pete | 1/4/2007, 12:45 pm EST

What? Sting has said on several occasions that rock music is “unsubstantial” and embarrased by his music with the Police…and then the Rock and Roll Hall induct them! Look, I think they’re great and deserve their place in rock history, but I also think what Sting did by breaking up the Police sucked. Certainly for the other two guys in the band, the crew, and of course, their fans. Sting is so “over” with rock and roll, I have zero interest in him anymore.

PAOLO | 1/4/2007, 12:33 pm EST

Would love to see a tour, but would really want some new material out of these guys. Would pay $1000+ for a show at MSG.

Rumple Stilskin | 1/4/2007, 12:19 pm EST

Ahh..go ahead and pour the drink in my hand then.

Rumple Stilskin | 1/4/2007, 12:18 pm EST

How much for a one rib, then?

Rees | 1/4/2007, 11:42 am EST

The Police reunion tour will be one of the greatest events in rock n’ roll history of the past 20 years. Let all these current bands see what a REAL band sounds and plays like. True talent gathers once more to give the final tour to the fans they never did back in the 80’s. This is monumental!

DaveB | 1/4/2007, 11:23 am EST

Read Andy Sommers new book. It reminds us what a a-hole Sting turned into, without really slamming him. A good read

Fritz | 1/4/2007, 11:21 am EST

At least, get the reunion itseld over with for God’s sakes. There are great songs to play, money to be made. Everyone’s happy.

jungleland | 1/4/2007, 10:40 am EST

They are about the only HUGE rock band not to reunite. I’ve been watching Stewart’s movie “Everyone Stares” and they were so damn good in their heyday…but would I go see them?

I’d pay $50 to see them at an arena or smaller venue.

I saw Sting at The Fox Theatre in Atlanta, twice at Hi-Fi Buys Ampletheatre and once at Six Flags Over GA (!) and he does a great show and tons of Police stuff. can the old band do as good a job? I doubt it, but it would be fun to watch the train wreck.

That said, I would respect them even more if they don’t reunite.

It’s kinda sad to see the 80’s bands as oldies acts (Blondie, Go-Go’s, Cars, Romantics, Poison, 38 Special) yet I’ve gone to see all of them…so there are plenty of suckers out there.

mikeky | 1/4/2007, 10:38 am EST

i’d pay about 3 dollars CASH MONEY.

Butch Cassidy | 1/4/2007, 10:26 am EST

Actually I’m really afraid Sting will pull out a lute.

Having gone to see Cream in NYC last year for $150 and sit all the way in the back and watch it on tv screens I guess I’m not as enthusiastic as I should be.

Sherry | 1/4/2007, 10:12 am EST

These huge venues with the astronomical ticket prices have ruined rock n roll!! Who wouldn’t love to see The Police? But who could afford what they will charge and then it’ll be in some huge place where no one can see. Save it, boys! We love you - but I won’t go.

Matt F | 1/4/2007, 9:37 am EST

LOVE the Police, but I hope they don’t do this. First of all, tickets will probably be $999 apiece, so I won’t be able to go anyway. Secondly, Sting is too high falutin’ now, so they won’t rock. We’ll be “treated” by New Age-y versions of all the standards, and no one needs that. Put out some cool DVD of the glory days instead, a la Led Zeppelin and KISS.

STRATCAT | 1/4/2007, 9:24 am EST

This is the only chance for Sting to regain his cool and balls in rock so let’s support this GREAT band.

STRATCAT | 1/4/2007, 9:23 am EST

The Police were the best band of the 80’s and as musicians were incredible.
Stewart Copeland is one of the most original and stunning drummers and Andy Summers incorporation of jazz runs mixed with rock were mindblowing.
Sting is no sluch either.
These guys were simply the bomb and albums like Ghost in the machine and Synchronicity are masterpieces.
If these guys get together..everybody should try and see them because after the Clash, The Police along with U2 were the bands of the 80’s that truly mattered.

Cheers!
Stratcat

Carlo | 1/4/2007, 8:38 am EST

I hope they will come to Stockholm (Sweden)!!!! I would go and se them even if they played on the other side of the world……

An for you who speaks about Clash, every f..ing band thats around has their influences!!! Only that The Police is far more better than The Clash!!!

coemgen | 1/4/2007, 8:30 am EST

If they do reunite, they need to take Mute Math on tour with them. It’d be perfect.

Kevin | 1/4/2007, 6:59 am EST

That would be so cool to see a Police reunion.Even if it is just a once-in-a-lifetime event,it would still be amazing.I saw Sting a few years ago-he was great. To see the Police reunite would be incrediable! And,for those who say the Police suck,Sting sucks,etc.etc.-don’t you losers have anything else better to do?What knd of music do you losers listen to?You wouldn’t know rock and roll if it bit you in the ass.And “emo” is not rock so why don’t you losers go and play with your razor blades and leave rock and roll to us?-the people that know, live and breathe rock and roll.

Hopefully the alleged reunion will NOT include a stupid lute player. A lute! What is Sting thinking??

matt | 1/4/2007, 1:25 am EST

The Police are the biggest Clash imitation band ever (and there were LOTS of Clash imitation bands in the ’80s). To Sting: get your own musical ideas!

Mike | 1/4/2007, 1:23 am EST

I’d give someone my dick in a box for tickets to The Police

matt | 1/4/2007, 1:22 am EST

Let’s hope to God they don’t reunite.

LIKROPER.COM | 1/4/2007, 1:01 am EST

stuart copeland turned drumming upside down in the 1980s…absolutely brilliant…he was almost as influential with drummers as jimi hendrix was with guitar players…his basic drumming style is very simple and easy for most beginning drummers to pick up, yet very difficult to play correctly, and that’s what is so cool about it…

JLI | 1/4/2007, 12:19 am EST

Sting has been a joke for a long time. The Police were a great band. The music they made has withstood the test of time. But I could care less about some reunion tour. I am sure I won’t be able to afford a good seat anyway.

James | 1/3/2007, 11:05 pm EST

I’ve waited my entire life for such an occasion…it would be huge.

Soren | 1/3/2007, 10:53 pm EST

How about seeing them at a Real Venue like Red Rocks , who would want to see music where the Rangers play?

Laurens from Indonesia | 1/3/2007, 9:59 pm EST

I would go just to watch Sting.

ken vail jr. | 1/3/2007, 9:47 pm EST

man that would be awesome to see this. though andy summers will be 65 this year which is kind of hard to believe.

Michael | 1/3/2007, 8:50 pm EST

The Police are a definate possible Coachella Music Festival act. It’s the perfect place and historically the best place for any band with such a loved catalogue of music to show off after years of hiding….except for Sting. He’s sooo much better with The Police!

Aaron | 1/3/2007, 8:44 pm EST

I happen to know, for a fact, that this is indeed happening. And anyone who cares at all about the current state of “rock’n'roll” should stand up and pay attention.

cheesecrop | 1/3/2007, 8:40 pm EST

No Police reunion!!! I have no doubt they could once put on a great show, but Sting has been on cruise control for the past 20 years. Everytime I hear him his vocals sound paler and sleepier than the last time. It may be the first concert that is halted because the singer fell asleep at the switch.

Jeff | 1/3/2007, 7:37 pm EST

I’d pay almost anything. I’ll be at every SoCal show.

Only request I’d make to the band is please, if you’re gonna do a greatest hits set, at least do 3 or 4 random/non-single tracks every night so that I can go to more than one show!

They’re gonna be fuckin’ bagillionaires when this is over, and they deserve it.

What a great, great band.

Isaac | 1/3/2007, 7:29 pm EST

This sounds like a great idea except for one little snag: they absolutely hate each other.

Donald | 1/3/2007, 7:24 pm EST

The Cream reunion correlates to a possible Police reunion in the sense that there’s one member in each respective band whose celebrity heavily outweighs the other members.

Obviously, Cream’s stature and place in rock music history doesn’t equate to that of the Police.

The logistics of a reunion are similar, though.

Richard | 1/3/2007, 7:07 pm EST

For most rock scholars, the Police do not hold the same value or are held in the same esteem as Cream.

The Cream reunion was something most rock fans believed would never happen, while a Police reunion as been brought up every so often over the last 20 years.

If this indeed happens (and history points at the fact that it will), it will likely be more than the few dates at MSG that Cream played in 2005.

Nothing less than a limited stadium tour or a limited arena tour with dates scheduled in only the largest classic rock markets.

Sting is not going to do this for a few shows. He’ll likely do this for charitable reasons and will want it to be as lucrative as possible.

In a way, I kind of hope this band does NOT reunite - but if they do, I’ll certainly be there to see them.

Sophie | 1/3/2007, 6:34 pm EST

I would love to see the Police in concert! i dont care where (hopefully New York) and i would pay any amount. They are awesome

CurtMayfield | 1/3/2007, 6:10 pm EST

For Some Reason, I think this is a long time comming. The Police should play again. I think that unlike a lot of other bands, they are still very much capable of playing a relavent show in todays world. Plus, I think they all realize that the money is in the bag with this one. I mean, they would gross hundreds of millions of dollars.

Donald | 1/3/2007, 6:07 pm EST

I don’t see them doing a tour (because of Sting and his ego, primarily).

I could see them doing what Cream did in 2005, playing some shows in England and a few in New York.

TheLawyer | 1/3/2007, 6:03 pm EST

One last thing, I don’t know what’s bigger, Sting’s ego, or the potential venues that they would play.

TheLawyer | 1/3/2007, 6:02 pm EST

If they do a reunion, I hope it’s at smaller venues and not just a few shows at monster stadiums with no soul. I’d rather pay more for a ticket to see them at a smaller venue. For us in the New York tri-state area, how about a 4-night run at the Beacon Theatre?

gordon | 1/3/2007, 5:57 pm EST

Holy cow….I would fly to central China to see them do one song.
Go boys go!!!!!

elfshu | 1/3/2007, 5:52 pm EST

I had my tonsils taken from me in 1980. Nothing good has happened to me since.

Star Carlton the 3rd | 1/3/2007, 5:30 pm EST

Why don’t they post their grievences on employeedirt.com and move on so we can hear them live again.

Mott the Hoople | 1/3/2007, 5:20 pm EST

The Police suck.

GAFF | 1/3/2007, 5:05 pm EST

Saw the Police in 1980 at the Civic Theater in San Diego and they were outstanding. I’d pay to see them again, but only in a small venue.
