If it weren’t for us, you little whiny pricks wouldn’t have RS to bitch too! If you don’t like the list, don’t read it, it’s not for you! I do wish that they would have let him live, I am against the death penalty, but for someone like him, I would be all for torture! May his 70 virgins all give him syphilis and may he rot in hell!!
I think this one is appropriate, cause he did:

thats right rolling stone..the guy underneath me is right, you do have a reputation to maintain…to slant the news as left as you can without ever giving the opposing sides view…GO ROLLING STONE!!

Tasteless | 1/3/2007, 9:46 am EST

RS, you have a reputation to maintain. You can’t publish whatever pops in your F%$&ing heads!

Strolling Bone | 1/3/2007, 9:40 am EST

This is unbelievably tasteless. Rejoicing in anyone’s death, no matter how evil they were, is crude and savage. We’re supposed to be better than the people we execute, right? Not this time, apparently. Shame on Rolling Stone for stooping to the level of thoughtless reactionaries. This used to be a good magazine.

To Samuel,

My pick of Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis was not for the play list of Saddam’s execution, but for the people who are against his execution. The song is just so they can get over themselves, stop thinking there is a such thing as a perfect world where everything is fair for everyone, and rejoice in actual justice. Not sure if your comment is really in agreement with mine, but hopefully this will clear things up. Saddam got what was coming and I applaud Rolling Stone magazine for a very clever use of the First Amendment. Rolling Stone, I salute you!

For those of you who seem to keep speaking for us in the military guess what we are an all volunteer force this is our job and if you have seen the people who have suffered under Sadaam like I have hanging was to good for him. Imagine having 22 of your family members have their throat cut in front of you. Stomach that for the rest of your life. The world is a better place without him. Let freedom ring

Beaufighter | 1/2/2007, 4:25 pm EST

Comforting to see that the predictible Right and their apologists never fail to label those who aren’t in lock-step, or even merely disagree, as “liberal”. Maybe do some “free thinking” of your own and come up with something more original that wasn’t spoon-fed by your ideological masters.

Samuel | 1/2/2007, 4:17 pm EST

How dare someone namecheck “Don’t Look Back in Anger” by Oasis for the execution of Saddam Hussein. Rather, the combative Hussein looked dignified (”Everything in its Right Place”) in the face (”Kid A” of an execution (”The National Anthem”). Meanwhile violence continues, (”How to Disappear Completely”) and the U.S. continues to dance around in the dust (”Treefingers”), while claiming everything is all right(”Optimistic”). U.S policy is (”In Limbo”) jumping from policy to policy, scaremongering (”Idioteque”. When we wake up from this mess (”Morning Bell”) we will realize that the album KID A from Radiohead was the “Motion Picture Sountrack” for the Iraqi invasion, as well as Saddam’s execution.

john | 1/2/2007, 4:08 pm EST

My opinion is that “poor little readers who had thier feelings hurt” should A)served under or been a victim of any sadistic person AND B)quit coming to this site and posting! Putting your ’save the world’, ‘finger-pointing at the US govt’ and ‘I hate the US’ bullshit online is no way to ’save the world’. Do something about it other than post your comments!

David F | 1/2/2007, 1:22 pm EST

I can’t believe people are whining about this list being in poor taste. Saddam Hussein was a first class shithead who deserved exactly what he got. We have “evolved” into a society of pussies when it gets to the point where we can’t celebrate and rejoice at the death of our enemies. I’m sure this type of thing happened in Rome, too, right before it fell.
By the way, “Killing An Arab” by the Cure is my pick.

DGG | 1/2/2007, 12:35 pm EST

Hey alec mylovepump, I think it’s safe to assume that in a hundred years nobody’s gonna care that you weren’t offended by it or that you were at least the third person to suggest a tune by The Stranglers, either.

Judy | 1/2/2007, 12:05 pm EST

This list is in very poor taste. I condemn RS for this act. Fatwah on RS!

alec mylovepump | 1/2/2007, 11:22 am EST

What an excellent thread, it has evoked the very essence of RS, be controversial and let everyone take sides.
I, for one, am against the death penalty, even for the most evil and guilty. But I am also for keeping a firm grip on my sense of humour, and to get all pansy and offended and write in saying as much is a personal failure on your behalf, in 100 years time the history books will state that Saddam Hussein was executed for his crimes and no one will give a monkeys that Spod from Ohio was offended by Rolling Stone.

To codynixon,

You’re right, execution of any kind is no laughing matter. However, this punk Saddam “a chump-chicken shit” Hussein got what was coming, and he deserves to be laughed at up until the his final moments. And with the video in full momentum around the internet, people will get to point their fingers at him and say what goes around comes around motherfucker! Enjoy the necktie party asshole!

codynixon | 1/2/2007, 6:32 am EST

i hope that on your funeral, and i certanly hope that will come soon

how about celebrating the death of your young boys dying there

G.W.B. finally got what he came for… got him hanged for only one of the crimes he commited after a more than sketchy trial. Taking to the grave countless other actions he should have faced in front of a real court of law.
Strange that this should happen only a few days after Pinochet died. I wonder if people are trying to cover up who they had ties with and who they supported with tax money?
This is a brainwashing war where people use “facts” for their own benefit.

w0nderwall | 1/2/2007, 5:09 am EST

To all the self-proclaimed liberals on this issue, I have a song for you as well-Don’t Look Back in Anger by Oasis. You need to lighten up and celebrate the death of a horrible monster. If you do not agree, then you are probably a Saddam sympathizer. Anyways, the year 2006 ended with a bang, or a hang?! Ha! Happy New Year liberals! It looks like it’s going to be a long one, as long as Saddam’s neck is now anyways! Ha!

God | 1/2/2007, 3:36 am EST

Rolling Stone should just throw in the towel. Their lack of taste is more than insulting to any credit this magazine may have once deserved.

Doug | 1/2/2007, 3:30 am EST

Sad that Rolling Stone doesn’t give its readers credit for being able to think beyond the death of this man as more than a joke.

This Ain’t No Picnic - Minutemen (just wait to see how “peace” comes now!)

Santiago | 1/1/2007, 6:44 pm EST

Let’s be clear - what’s missing here is a concept.
First off, Saddam has killed thousands of people, that’s a fact. That he should had been punished, that’s another one! But the real punishment, the real justice, doesn’t come with the death penalty. That’s eye-for-eye, a pedestrian law created several millennia ago, which is absolutely obsolete… He should had been left to rot in a prison, having all the time in the world to pay with real pain, to blow his brains out from the burden, to suffer without a chance to die and end it all. Dying was just a fast escape for him. He should suffer like rapers do, when they get to prison, other inmates don’t forgive these kind of crimes and they get raped! But for that, he needed to be in prison - unfortunately, you killed him. Now Iraqis (who, by the way, are not celebrating like you like to think) who suffered him have no justice, just another open scar.
Do you think that, maybe let’s say, he’d never regret all that he did? OK, but even then, he would have spent the rest of his life without a chance to live it like a human being. Just as he did with his victims. That’s true punishment, true justice for such a reckless monster.
He killed thousands of people, he was indeed a monster! But who let the monster appear? First blame it on Great Britain and France, back in the 1920’s, who divided Arabs for the sake of imperialism and created Iraq. Then blame it on the US, supporting the monster in the 1980’s (yes, when he committed his crimes!), giving him weaponry (did you really think he could produce it all by himself??) and all for battling the rising influence of Iran in the Middle East - Cold War stuff back then!.
But of course… one day he had that silly idea of getting Kuwait’s oil, and then the US got really scared and quickly did a fast war… what a quick change of mind!!! And then, when Bush needed someone to blame for the terrorism, he did quite a great job - Iraq having nuclear weapons! Fantastic idea for a sci-fi film… but it wasn’t true at all. And for all of those war-bearers, who do you think you are to go to another country to do what you think is the solution? Since when you can do that? No, no, morally that’s impossible… The US Army didn’t go there for the people, but for the oil. I don’t care how patriotic you think the war is, it simply isn’t, it’s just another lie.
By the way, great way to bring peace to the region… it’s the Middle East, gentlemen… hanging that monster is like a throwing a lit match into a jar filled with nitroglicerine!
Considering all that I’ve said before, it is clear that RS really screwed it up as a magazine… and they are liberal!

Marcos | 1/1/2007, 2:49 pm EST

I don’t think Saddam should die, i think he should live long enough in prsion to be punished for his crimes. He got the easy way out.

Nimrod | 1/1/2007, 2:12 pm EST

I up for a good laugh like anybody…but this isn’t even funny–Did a hacker sneak in and post this? or was it an idea of an intern on ‘I’m from RS?’
From a journalistic stand-point, for a publication with the historical significance of RS to post something like this is really an embarrassing sign of the times…Essentially, you are mocking the life-works of artists like Bob Dylan and John Lennon who represent your audience. Why not find a story of inspiration to publish and reverse this endless cycle of negativity. Use your power to change the world for the better instead of ‘Raving and Drooling’ over this act like a bunch of ‘Dogs.’

Most people think he might have killed up to 1 million people and horribly tortured, burned and deformed thousands more. Could you like in the eyes of a poor dead childs mother and say Saddam should live? Why don’t you ask the Iraqis how they feel. They are CELEBRATING! Human death should be avoided at all costs but it is sometimes necessary. And as for you Rolling Stone, you guys are retarded. What kind of stupid playlist is this? What were you trying to do? We are allowed to have an opinion, but when that opinion becomes judgemental against that person. then it’s no longer an opinion but an act that brings division, not peace. If we took the energy we put into being angry, and channeled it into positive thought, We’d witness change for the best. But first we need to experience what being truly loved means. So we can pass it on. Let’s make 2007 a year of healing and pray for our leaders that have their own agenda!Prayer changes things… God Bless everyone that posted.

Saddam is an asshole (we know that)
Bush is an asshole (we know that)
RS are assholes (who knew?)
Making lists is for assholes
I am opposed to the death penalty, but out of the few people in the world who DO deserve it, Saddam is one.
Guess what. You are all pious assholes who are far too concerned with being politically correct. Listen to yourselves - you are defending the life of a cruel, evil dictator! Like, we know. You don’t want to offend anyone. Everybody’s opinion is valid. But seriously. He killed A LOT of people. Brutally.
Get over yourselves.

How disgreaceful and disgusting sort of act is this? RS is not realizing the tremendous pressure builting within the Arabic world after Saddam’s execution. If Saddam killed 148 Shiites some 20 years ago (1982), what did Bush do in 2001 by invading Iraq and mass killing more than 300,000 innocent iraqis. Its Bush who should be hung instead, if Saddam was hung. Too shameful to act such inappropiately on the demise of one autocrat as Saddam. Shame on you Rolling Stone. Why everything is a matter of ranking for you parachial minds.

To Ryan,

Remembering and honoring those who died? Please tell me you are not directing this to this thing called Saddam Hussein?! Honoring someone worthy of being honored, for example, James Brown, is something worth remembering and honoring, not some horrible and pathetic excuse for a leader like Saddam Hussein! Your post is just as disgusting as the face of that monster!

The problem is that you are making light of a man that killed thousands of people. There is a much larger picture you should look at before posting something disgusting. Having people think of songs that are funny or serve as puns is insensitive. We should be honoring or remembering those that died instead.

I read some of the liberal-bashing comments here. I agree that this guy deserved to die. But what gets me is all the condemnation of his crimes without any mention of how we supported him and enabled him to commit them. We helped him take power in the first place. We supplied him with weapons and chemicals and continued to support him when he gassed the Kurds, when he attacked Iran and used chemical weapons to kill tens of thousands of their soliders, when he put down the Shite rebellion after Gulf War I, again killing thousands, etc etc. Once again, yes he committed the crimes he was charged with but WE SUPPORTED HIM! Discuss that ROLLING STONE!

Sure Hussein was guilty, but these crimes were committed while the US and Britain were supporting him! Our leaders are just as guilty as he is. Why not devote an article to this, a topic completely ignored in the Western media? Or an article discussing the illegal invasion and occupation of the country which had led to over 600,000 deaths in the last 3 years, more people than Hussein killed in 30 years of dictatorship! What you are doing here is stupid and I have lost respect for your magazine.

By the way, US Bombs Killed more innocent Iraqis in one year than Saddam in over two decades. Make a playlist about that.

Iván | 12/31/2006, 1:25 am EST

so, this hangin’ is gonna bring even more dead to Iraq, and you’re doing a list to poke fun at it. This is just Wrong and you people at RS lack of the much intelligence i thought you had.

Saddam was an evil Bastard that’s a fact. You’re stupid A**holes. Hey, there’s another fact.

Bill Foster | 12/31/2006, 1:06 am EST

I really don’t get this? If one believes that the death penalty was deserved, is it so hard to understand that one should still carry it out with dignity and understanding and not gloat and joke about something so serious?

I am a “liberal pansy” because I believe serious matters should be treated seriously? And … by the way … when Saadaam Hussein was gassing people I was writing letters like this protesting. My government was selling him more weapons and sending Don Rumsfield to shake his hand.

As for all the people who died in the Iran war … again, I seem to recall my government supporting him then.

And as for the people who died “on our soil”; Iraq had nothing to do with that, as anyone who is paying the least attention to anything should know.

Die with dignity? Die with dignity?… I;m shocked at you people? Did he let any of the Shitte’s die with dignity by throwing their bodies in a mass grave? Did he let any of the Iraqi people die with dignity by starving them to death while he bathed in his gold-plated tubs? Did he let a Kuwaiti of Iranian die with dignity in a war he started for his own pride?
As far as I’m concerned we did lethim die with dignity… we only showed the pictures of his death that contained no blood or gore. At least we didn’t televise the event like it was the Superbowl! Great joke Rolling Stone… I’m with ya!

If ur so anti-everything, what about all the people who died trying to rescue the people who died without dignity at this man’s hands! Not to mention on our own soil! If they died without dignity, why the hell should he? I served in Iraq twice and will again!

Hanging a dictator who at the very least made the lives of his supposed enemies a living hell, subjecting them to lives of constant fear, or creating a soundtrack for his death? Saddam is dead, thank god. I hate Bush, Cheney, the Republican Party, and any other bastard who supported the pointless fucking war, but in a battle of lesser evils, I’ll take them over Saddam.
