Disneyland Gobbles Up Chili Peppers, the New Godfather of Soul Is…Uh, Chaka Khan?, Morrissey Seeks Knighthood

red hot chili peppers

  • You know your career has taken an odd turn, when you go from shooting heroin, wearing socks on your dicks, and singing misogynistic anthems about Catholic-school girls to having two of your biggest hits used at California’s Disneyland Resort. The mouse-friendly resort have licensed the Red Hot Chili Peppers hits “Higher Ground” and “Around The World” for two of the theme parks most popular rides, Space Mountain and California Screaming. Isn’t this a wee bit like the Army using Liberace’s music?
  • B.B. King Blues Club & Grill have announced that Chaka Khan will fill in for the late Godfather of Soul’s New Years Eve performance at B.B. King’s in New York. Not quite the same, is it?
  • Have System of the Down broken up? Not even vocalist Serj Tankian is sure, but let us hope not. The music world needs their brand of hyper-political protest metal.
  • The man who titled an album The Queen Is Dead is probably the last person you’d expect to complain about his prospects of being knighted, but Morrissey is indeed in a tizzy about this exact subject. The Mozzer now feels he is more deserving, and, in fact, would be delighted to accept such an honor. My, oh my, how people change with age.

RHCP on Space Mountain too cool. Why not some Smashing Pumpkins in the Haunted Mansion during Jack Skelton days at Disneyland (I love Zero).

I remember all those people who were in to dark/alternative college music back on the 80’s & early 90’s, they used to made fun of popular artists, stuff like:

“Prince is a wus, he thinks he’s a princess”
“Duran Duran pop music for Bond movies”
“Madonna is a media whore”

But it’s amazing to see how things change, with time. Scott Weiland is making christmas music, Chris Cornell is making James Bond music, Pearl Jam has more tv appearances this year then Madonna and Morrisey isn’t happy yet, he want’s to be royalty.

Even Thom Yorke need it to outshine he’s Radiohead pal’s going solo, (Somebody say EGO?)

the chili peppers refused to give “under the bridge” to mcdonalds some years back and i respected them for that, i thinkthat if they did for the money then it was wrong but if they did because they thought that it would be funny then thats ok plus i could see them doing that

I don’t get why people freak out about bands licensing their music for such uses. It is not like they re-recorded around the world with lyrics mentioning Disney…and they aren’t appearing in a Disney commerical. Personally, I’d rather hear a Chili Peppers song at Disney than the crap they had been playing before.

sussy | 12/29/2006, 2:58 pm EST

ha, I’m with you Genio, all those late 80’s and 90’s SERIOUS ROCK acts sold out big time.
I remember my “rocker’s class mates” laughin at me couse i listen to Prince or MJ etc.
Now the Peppers music goes Disney! ha, it will be playing with the reopen of Michael Jackson’s “Captain Eo” ride.

MJ | 12/29/2006, 2:49 pm EST

the chili peppers shouldn’t be letting their classic just go to kids rides where the kids dotn even know how important these songs are. now i have been a chili peppers fan from birth and i think that they should have just passed on the mickey mouse offer

“The world needs THERE band of hyper-political protest metal”???

Jesus Goddamn LEARN TO SPELL!!

Why the hell am I not working for Rolling Stone instead of these 9th grade dropouts??

funksayer | 12/29/2006, 1:11 pm EST

chaka khan is great. different. great though. there was only one JB- the club couldnt try to replace him with another godfather of soul- there is none. chaka is gonna give those folks in NY a killer show im sure.

Lobsters | 12/29/2006, 12:54 pm EST

Don’t worry about changing the “Higher Ground” sentence. Stevie Wonder can’t read it either way.

god | 12/29/2006, 12:34 pm EST

music reflects the times. what do you think of the times when bob dylan and foo fighters etc. are making shitty music playing corporate festivals, the melvins actually have a nike shoe and morrissey is looking forward to being knighted. shiiiiiiiit

Austin | 12/29/2006, 12:06 pm EST

??? sooo weird. BTW: its their (belonging to them) and not there (a location lacking a being of here)

Zachra | 12/29/2006, 11:52 am EST

Could you guys please, please change the sentence from “… the RHCP hits “Higher Ground”and “Around the World…” to “… the RHCP hits “Around the World” and their version of Stevie Wonder’s “Higher Ground”.

Chuck | 12/29/2006, 11:39 am EST

wow, a $180 sweatshop manufactured shoe….thats so not punk

Donald | 12/29/2006, 11:24 am EST

Chaka Khan is great and all, but no, it’s not the same.

It’s went from “I Feel Good” to “I Feel For You”.

Lobsters | 12/29/2006, 10:50 am EST

There’s one consistant thread throughout The Red Hot Chili Pepper’s career from their beginning to their present - They are assholes.

rockstrsbaby678 | 12/29/2006, 10:15 am EST
