- On Thursday, the public will be able to view the body of James Brown on the stage at the Apollo Theater, the site of his debut, and say their goodbyes. News is also trickling out about a James Brown biopic directed by Spike Lee. Reports say that Brown played an active role in the project’s development and granted access to his music rights.
- Today, our nation mourns the loss of former President Gerald Ford. He passed away last night at he age of 93. Ford swept into office following Nixon’s resignation, where he famously announced that "Our long national nightmare is over." During his two-and-a-half years as president, he oversaw the withdrawal of troops from Vietnam, pardoned Nixon, appointed John Paul Stevens to the Supreme Court, vetoed a bail-out of an economically strapped New York City and survived two assassination attempts.
- You can talk shit all you want about how much Kid Rock’s music sucks, but you can never question his patriotism. The Detroit native and one-time Rolling Stone cover-boy spent his Christmas holiday in Iraq entertaining our troops. This is his second U.S.O. tour of the war-torn country, meaning he has been in Iraq as many times as our current president.
- If the producers of the U.K. version of Celebrity Big Brother want to sign Lil’ Kim, they’ll need to hook her up with a £500,000 payday. I think the producers definitely should give her the money and meet all her demands, which include a two-week vacation following filming and 24-hour access to make-up and hair stylists. Spoiled midgets with huge fake breasts make for great television and high ratings.
- George Harrison’s sister sold a copy of Meet the Beatles that was signed by the entire band at an auction for more than $115,000. The sale was believed to set a record price for a signed Beatles album purchased at a public sale. Meanwhile, that beyond-rare Velvet Underground recording sold for $25,000. Which is about a hundred thousand less than the initial offer that turned out to be a fake.
