All this week we’re featuring the dream covers we didn’t have a chance (or the balls) to run this year. We’re asking you for suggestions — and you’re doing a pretty good job. (See Day One.) But with today’s cover, we wanted to open up the dialogue a little. Remember: These are fake covers, so feel free to nominate — not just rad dudes and gals who almost snagged the top spot in 2006 — but all the weirdo’s and freakouts that never had a chance. Have a little fun, we’re listening . . .

Savage | 12/26/2006, 7:41 pm EST
I know this may not be up to the task for Rolling Stone mag, but why not extreme commentator and radio personality, Michael Savage? I know Rolling Stone has its left wing liberal tendencies, and there is nothing wrong with that (to each his or her own in America as it should be), but since the mag does like to have cutting edge topics and unique interviews, why not this guy? He presents his point of view, however radical or logical it is, and maintains an entertaining show as well. Plus, this could help out with Rolling Stone’s critics who may feel it’s not fair to both sides, liberal and conservative. If anything else, it’d be a risky move, and Rolling Stone has succeeded in many of its risks.

Dude | 12/26/2006, 8:20 pm EST
I’d say Axl but he probably would’ve just used it as an excuse to delay the album for 3 more years.
Mykl | 12/26/2006, 8:53 pm EST
Honestly, there really should have been a cover story for CBGB
SoWhat451 | 12/26/2006, 9:23 pm EST
Who still fuckin cares about Axl? Honestly, he’s over-rated and that CD is never going to come out. Give up. Listen to some decent music for a change.

What are we talking bout?
Art Vandelay | 12/26/2006, 9:51 pm EST
A retrospective of zeppelin including info on bonham that noone ever gets to read about because you guys are too busy reporting on shitty rap and britney spears or some other ass-clown who plays catalog, preprogrammed casio-keyboard music
Art Vandelay | 12/26/2006, 9:53 pm EST
…After all, i think you guys owe it to Zeppelin since you slashed everyone of there albums and only after they broke up and you noticed the incredible power of the band did you “report” on them. Most of the time it wasn;t even about them, just plant

TV on the Radio, no question, or Ghostface Killah. Is anyone really waiting for a new guns and roses cd, anyways? lets stick with what relevant.
Anon | 12/26/2006, 11:24 pm EST
Tool should have been on the cover. I agree with Ghostface too. He’s been dropping heat for years. How about some love for Timbaland? He found a way to make Justin Timberlake mildly listenable. Ditto for Scott Storch. The Coup would also have been interesting.
D-train | 12/26/2006, 11:25 pm EST
Tool is waaayyy overdue.

Tool should of had a cover a while ago. I love that you did a fake weird al cover (he deserved one as much as Tool). I also agree with anon that Timberland should have his own cover. There wouldn’t be that many hot beats this year without him. Even though I know he’ll get one, I’d have to say James Brown. Without him we’d not have hip-hop.
SHiN | 12/27/2006, 3:36 am EST
2pac! he just “released” an album so he deserves a cover, despite bein supposedly dead. r.i.p. mr shakur.
Dan | 12/27/2006, 3:48 am EST
Weird Al never has had a cover, huh? Yet, the Spin Doctors did, and so did Tom Green (and probably a hundred other flavor of the weeks). I think you folks SHOULD give Weird Al a real cover. The man has been the song parody king for 20+ yrs now.
Kevin | 12/27/2006, 4:11 am EST
Weid Al has NEVER had a cover and has never had a full length interview.I think it’s time to give Weird Al his props.I mean-come on-he’s been doing paradies since late 1979/early 1980.
Kevin | 12/27/2006, 4:13 am EST
Another one that comes to mind with the no cover is Queen. It would be interesting to interview Brian May and Roger Taylor and find out what made them get Paul Rodgers.
Kevin | 12/27/2006, 4:15 am EST
How about the Olsen Twins?I know they got a cover a while back but interview them now and see if they are still “innocent”

The Dixie Chicks. They have had an amazing year, with their album, the tour (which didn’t go as well as planned, but was still a success), and the movie “Shut Up and Sing”. I was really hoping I’d see them on the cover this year.

What’s with the rip on Minnesota???
We are number one in health care, and top 5 in education and jobs.
Oh… and Rolling Stone forgot that we are also one of the nation’s top music producers (3rd or 4th, I forget). Our local bands are second to NONE!!
Minneapolis is second only to New York for its theater industry. We even have some of those art museums that a handful of people sometimes go to. In short, we have more culture than you can shake a stick at.
The only thing wrong with Minnesota is the cold and snow; and I assure you, global warming has lessened that considerably.
We have cheese curds, beer, chubby blondes, brats, and lakes.
Rolling Stone has Elizabeth Goodman writing for its internet. (Like a totally wow, crushing teen beat writer!)
We win.

Jon B. | 12/27/2006, 3:34 pm EST
It’s true, you guys have paid very little attention to TOOL, even though they’ve made some of the best rock records of the past two decades. Then again, they hate the spotlight, so for all I know you guys offered and they declined. But I doubt it.
Aphex Twin would’ve made for a fascinating story, but he too holds contempt for the spotlight. Ah well.
But if Joni Mitchell actually releases a new one like she said, I expect you guys to react appropriately.
Digity | 12/27/2006, 4:27 pm EST
Minnesota ’s population is just fine….It’s the way we like it….Screw city slickers
