I have a few karaoke war stories. A few years ago during my birthday I got a bit too drunk and did a particularly heroic rendition of “Dead or Alive” by Bon Jovi. I started throwing articles of clothing into the audience and kicked off my shoes into crowd. One of my Birkenstocks connected with my bosses right eye and he dropped like a sack of potatos. I ended up giving him a huge black eye. Luckily he has a good sense of humor.

I was also kicked out of a bar in Montana after my friend and I made “Margaritaville” our own. We did a rap version and I was the hype man. “Where the fucking salt shaka!?” The guy running the karakoe machine didn’t go for the “blue” language and had us removed.

Tenacious D’s “Tribute” is a good one, too. Especially, “NAY! WE ARE BUT MEN!”

-Bohemian Rhapsody (no matter what circumstances, it does NOT sound good)

- “group” karaoke. It sounds like nothing but chaos amplified by a couple of microphones. It’s irritating for anyone who isn’t up there with you.
- any rap if you aren’t absolutely fucking positive you can keep up
- any song longer than five minutes is no fun at karaoke

Year before last around Christmas we were all at the bar on karaoke night and there was probably a hand full of folks there. As I was walking out Andy Dick and his 2 assistants walked in. I had to turn around and walk back in. By the time I got back in, he was on the mic and started wailing to “Life in the Fast Lane” by the Eagles. He was adlibbing the crap out of the song and for some ODD reason NO ONE had a cell phone with a camera on them! Anyways, we ended up throwing him out for grabbing dude’s crotches and stuff.

I try to stay away from what I call ‘over-done’ songs. I try to pick things that I’ve never heard anyone else do. And the crowd likes that too.

I love to go to bars and do karaoke. I don’t seem like I would be able to sing so when I get up and NAIL Jack and Dianne people start paying attention.
I love to follow that up with a little Mambo #5 to get the girls dancing, then I’ll do Heaven by Los Lonely Boys. Depending on the crowd and the mood I might do a little Walking in Memphis or The Way You Do the Things You Do by UB-40. If it’s an older crowd I might do Light My Fire and if it’s a counrty crowd I might do Thunder Rolls. I just recently found a place that has Crazy by Seal. I will admit I kinda messed that one up but, give me some time and I’ll NAIL that one too. Crazy Bitch usually gets any crowd going too….Smooth by Rob Thomas is a good get up and dance song. I’ll also sing She’s Like the Wind by Patrick Swayze but one of my favorites is I’ll Be by Edwin McCaine. I also like to sing Cherry Bomb by John Mellencamp. Bob Marely’s Stir it up is always a crowd pleaser or No Woman No Cry….
All I can say is people that get up and sing, no matter how bad you sound, unless like one person said before, unless your just piss ass drunk and slurring, I give you all credit because it’s not an easy task getting up in front of strangers and singing.

i fail to see how these are the best Karaoke songs, yes the majority oar classics… but in my book what makes a great karaoke song is the combination of difficulty as well as fan appreciation…

Now if you have the ability to crank out some Phil Collins, Heart, or Fleetwood Mac you will have the audience on your side. Moving songs are really the most entertaining.
Some people like to hear what they haven’t before in awhile. A lot of people (from small towns mostly) go to karaoke and think nothing of hearing the same 50 songs done over and over as a sort of ritual.

also, stones, killers, beatles, kinks, Bowie is kind of personal for me.

Rappers Delight is even longer than Bohemian Rhapsody. Paranoid Andorid is absurdly long. Is anyone else completely bored with Hotel California?

Everyone needs to stop saying Bohemian Rhapsody! Life isn’t Wayne’s World and the song lasts for days. It’s probably the best song for karaoke if you want to kill the room!

Last week we came to the Uk and sang born to be wild, half way through we took our shirts off and had born to be wild written on our chests. we then chugged a beer for the crowd. It was EPIC.

why is everyone hating on Bohemian Rhapsody so much? look, i know most people cant sing it as well as Queen, but so what? all that matters is having fun, laughing and enjoying your night out with your friends. so when everyone joins in and starts singing it together, who cares if its butchered? some of my favorite memories ever is getting the whole room singing Bohemian Rhapsody because by the end theres a smile on every single persons face, and thats what Karaoke is about. having fun.

Went out to a family friendly bar in Puerto Vallarta Mx, Cafe Roma, last night. First time karaoke’ers, did Lonestar’s, Mr. Mom, with my wife and two kids. Had a blast.
