It was a great year for covers — Bob Dylan, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Borat — but we always wish there were a few more months in the year. Thusly, every day next week, we’ll be featuring the covers we missed this year. Take the weekend to let us know your picks. Stay tuned…

I don’t recall seeing a U2 cover this year.Since they’re the GREATEST Band in HISTORY,that’s CRIMINAL!!
Manuel | 12/22/2006, 4:02 pm EST
Has to be Shakira. Definitely

Britney in all her exposed-ness.
john | 12/22/2006, 4:29 pm EST
Axl Rose made a ton of headlines this year…but I can only assume you will have him on the cover when Chinese Democracy comes out in March….
Victoria | 12/22/2006, 4:36 pm EST
Fall Out Boy had a really awesome year.
alaska | 12/22/2006, 4:52 pm EST
Is Rollingstone daring enough to place Catpower on its cover? Nah.
She didn’t sell a boat load of records, but it is the best album of the year.
B-digs | 12/22/2006, 4:59 pm EST
I just want to see your covers setting trends rather than following them. The new Ghostface album is amazing? Put him on the cover! TV On The Radio has the 4th best album of the year? Where was their cover?
I look at your top 50 records of the year and very few of them got covers. Instead, popular, sucky, attractive artists like Fergie get covers. That seems backwards. This isn’t EW or People Mag. Go back to your roots, RS. I was looking through your book of covers in Barnes and Noble yesterday, and it made me sad.
Jeremy | 12/22/2006, 5:22 pm EST
Axl Rose and Robin Finck (together).
chowderhead | 12/22/2006, 5:30 pm EST
sufjan stevens: prolific, musical, Christian, and undangerously dangerous (or dangerously undangerous). Good cover material.
West Virginia | 12/22/2006, 5:52 pm EST
Here are a few that are cover worthy… Gnarls Barkley… Barrack Obama, Raconteurs, dylan with the foo fighters (since they toured together), pink floyd tribute w/focus on Syd Barrett, (it was done with zeppelin), Angels and Airwaves (life after blink 182), Emo leadmen (brandon flowers, and the leads for MyChemROMANCE, panic!, and fallout). How about Sir Elton? With his new record? I almost forgot…how do you guys forget about WOLFMOTHER?
Vertigo | 12/22/2006, 6:05 pm EST
U2
Mykl | 12/22/2006, 6:07 pm EST
Tenacious D
Delbert | 12/22/2006, 6:13 pm EST
The Who. It was their year, but for some reason you decided to put Fergie on the cover. Even the illustration of congress could have been substituted for a Who cover. Your a music mag Rollingstone, stick to your guns
DAN | 12/22/2006, 6:32 pm EST
MAY NOT BE FLASHY,BUT CAN ROCK TOT TO TOE WITH ANYONE,BOB SEGER
DeadHorse | 12/22/2006, 6:43 pm EST
RS covers were not good in 2006. In 05 we had Paul McCartney, White Stripes, Weezer etc. I vote for a huge miss on the Raconteurs!
Graham | 12/22/2006, 6:53 pm EST
Fergie looks like Shakira after about one beer…it would take 50 beers however to make her do-able.
I applaud you for not doing a Green Day/U2 cover, seeing as how they both suck it may just make your magazinge bias enough to piss me off. Wolfmother all the beyotches!
Ragman | 12/22/2006, 6:58 pm EST
Tool definitly deserved to be on a cover of RS in 2006
little jimmy | 12/22/2006, 7:10 pm EST
i was waiting all year for a Raconteurs cover… instead i got Fergie. and the American idol hosts, and Pearl Jam and RHCP(AGAIN). RS, you guys really suck now. Next year resolve to put relatively NEW, non-shitty, artists on the cover please.
rockandrollgirl | 12/22/2006, 7:10 pm EST
For music, The Killers. They deserve a cover.
For for film or tv, how about the cast of Heroes?
I personally could see you skip the half-nude covers of Lindsay Lohan, Fergie and their kin.
cheesecrop | 12/22/2006, 7:33 pm EST
I am wondering why certain artists keep getting placement on the cover of the magazine, namely people such as Dylan, the Stones, McCartney, etc., as well as starts like Jack Nicholson. I am aware that they are still doing stuff, but it seems as though you have something of a double standard here. When these people were starting out you gave them plenty of press, and through the years you followed them, even giving them press when they weren’t doing anything of relevance. It seems a pity that there are so many modern acts out there that could use the coverage your giving them still. It would be nice if you devoted at least one full issue to all rising talent. I guess I’m saying spread the love to those who could really use it.
GoTerps | 12/22/2006, 7:35 pm EST
The Who should have been on the cover this year, and Pete Townshend should have been on the front row of your 1,000th issue–instead of way in the back. What a slap in the face to one of rock’s greatest composers, innovators, performers and contributors!
RedSG | 12/22/2006, 7:37 pm EST
Definitely the Who. Their first album in 24 years, not to mention their best in 33 years, and their touring again. After all the build up RS has created with them, they didn’t do any major articles. Also, try to get Axl on the cover when Chinese Democracy comes out. If you don’t, that would be an even bigger crime.
RedSG | 12/22/2006, 7:39 pm EST
In fact, adding to the Axl thing, how ’bout a cover with him slugging it out with Tommy Hilfiger, who whoever it was he got into a “fight” with.
drew | 12/22/2006, 7:53 pm EST
tv on the radio(for giving true black soul and rhythm for what radiohead aspires for), dallas green (look him up, a canadian mastermind, responsible for the superb “city and colour” solo project and alexisonfire, amazing releases in ‘06), mastodon (for doing everything metallica couldnt, rock)… get informed, if your not. rollingstone could you a few good writers and ballsier editors. stop regurgitating crap you schlock rag. predictable rollingstone. http://www.myspace.com/drewtrudeau
drew | 12/22/2006, 7:54 pm EST
and i could use a spellcheck and another hit from my bowl.
RCS | 12/22/2006, 7:56 pm EST
Drew…since when does Radiohead aspire to “true black soul and rhythm
drew | 12/22/2006, 7:56 pm EST
i think we can all agree we love rollingstone… or at least what it was. its just a real shame its not worth subscribing to anymore. you’ve become a shit rag rollingstone. grow some balls. sell some magazines.
drew | 12/22/2006, 7:57 pm EST
who playing rock music doesn’t aspire to what music its roots are so very much buried in. rhythm and blues my friends. don’t argue.
drew | 12/22/2006, 8:10 pm EST
gnarls barkley… damn that must have been a tough choice… them or christina aguilera. come on now. don’t leave the artists behind the summer’s most hottest track, an instant obvious classic. and they’re left for my verbal fodder. in this silly “afterthought” gimic!
jeff | 12/22/2006, 8:19 pm EST
WOLFMOTHER- Best album of the year
The Who First album in 24 years, come on!
Rolling Stones Biggest tour ever.
Elton John
Marie | 12/22/2006, 8:32 pm EST
Incubus
BonJovi | 12/22/2006, 8:52 pm EST
Tenacious D… come on, in the movie they were idolizing the guys from the covers of rolling stone, and they didn’t even get on it? how lame is that?
HipsterScienceAlgebraEquations | 12/22/2006, 9:20 pm EST
U know Rolling Stone u know what u did. Don’t try to make up for it now. Just kidding… no umm…is this really a we didn’t put ur band on the cover thing or is it just getting ideas for next years covers. Let’s think about this… obviously the Katrina victims needed one, Martin Scorcesee w/the cast of the Departed, My Chem and alot of the dudes from the New Rock scene, Panic!, Killers,Gnarles,Oprah: cause she just needs one please put her on one, Madea: that was some funny stuff, and a Punk tribute cover, would have been rad to see one.

Muse. One of the biggest bands in the world that RS loves to hate and now they’re cracking America. Show some respect for the best live band in the world!
Aaron D. | 12/23/2006, 12:28 am EST
Ummmm….to whomever said Axl Rose, I can guarantee he’ll get the cover once the album finally materializes.
As for artists that should’ve got the cover: Regina Spektor and Gogol Bordello. The first a Russion-American who pours more emotion, eloquence and subtlety into single verses than most artists can summon in entire albums, while Gogol Bordello is a collective composed of European nationals that mix punk, folk, and world music with uncontainable energy. If you’ve yet to see them live, you’re missing out on not just a great show, but an experience.
Kliffee | 12/23/2006, 2:10 am EST
Screw axl rose. even if the album is good, it took him how many years to make it that good? big deal!
put the Scissor Sisters on the cover.
Kevin | 12/23/2006, 4:22 am EST
A few people that come to mind of who should have been on the cover…Axl Rose,The Who,U2,John Lennon-when I say him,Rolling Stone could have done something on the 26h aniversary of his death and I think maybe Paul McCartney & Ringo Starr together to talk about the days of the Beatles,John and George and to discuss the musical “Love”
Amanda | 12/23/2006, 5:24 am EST
Ryan Adams
he’ll be around for ever you may as well put him on now and make it a classic…
Achtung Bono | 12/23/2006, 6:29 am EST
Who the fuck are “Shakira,”and “Fergie”???? What do they have to do with Rock ‘n’Roll?????

Scarlett Johansson.
Rusty Shackleford | 12/23/2006, 8:25 am EST
I was gonna say the D, but someone convinced me that it’s clearly Fergie’s penis.
Brian | 12/23/2006, 11:49 am EST
am I the only person who don;t understand all the Tenacious D love?? I mean there not even a real band and their movie was horrible. There are far more bands and people who deserve covers then them like catpower or gnarls. I do have to respect the fact that i didn;t have to see any emo band covers.
T | 12/23/2006, 11:58 am EST
Bob Seger definitely, The Who also, how about Ray Davies. and nobody needed another Zeppelin cover

little devotional | 12/23/2006, 2:46 pm EST
You guys over looked TAKING BACK SUNDAY, one of the greatest bands to come along.I think its time to give them the recognition they desirve!!!
Rock God | 12/23/2006, 3:24 pm EST
Dude, the chili peppers should have had been on the cover every month. They always do the best covers anyways. Best band in the world since the mid 80’s blokes.
Sam | 12/23/2006, 4:20 pm EST
Raconteurs, Gnarls Barkley, Daniel Craig, Wolfmother.
Jeremy | 12/23/2006, 5:21 pm EST
Thom Yorke
T | 12/23/2006, 6:28 pm EST
How about the other four (or technically five, if you count Boom) members of Pearl Jam? I think Rolling Stone missed the story of Vedder wiping his ass with their magazine on stage because the rest of his band wasn’t included on the cover.
Socrates | 12/23/2006, 6:55 pm EST
I was very disapointed to not see a mega cover with Lindsay Lohan, Nicole Ritchie, Britney Spears, Paris HIlton, Jessica Simpson, Ashlie Simpson, and the Olsen Twins. You should have labeled it this: “Please stop enabling us”

The Who should have made the cover at least once. Slap in the face as usual. Then not to make it on the top 50 albums of the year? I think you guys gave “Endless Wire” four and a half stars. Where’s the love?….
JR | 12/23/2006, 9:34 pm EST
How about My Chemcial Romance?!
I hope to see an upcoming cover with them on it in 2007. I don’t need to see another cover with Fergie ever again.
JR | 12/23/2006, 9:36 pm EST
How about My Chemical Romance or Gnarls Barkley?! Both, had two of the best albums of the year. I sure don’t need another Fergie cover, plus too many actors on the front this year.
Hopefully, I will see MCR or Gnarls Barkley on the cover in 2007.
BRI | 12/23/2006, 11:12 pm EST
Thanks for the White Stripes, but how about the Raconteurs?? Come on! You named them #2 and #28 single, and #28 best album in 2006…but no cover

After 24 years and all the turmoil they have gone thru the WHO record a new studio album and a world tour. One of the biggest rock bands of our time. Rollingstone’s choice for a cover John Stewert. Rollingstone has forgotten it’s roots. Where is Cream magazine when you need it.

Tool, although they probalbly wouldn’t do the cover and it seems rollingstone doesn’t give two shit about the band because they didn’t start in the sixties.
Aaron D. | 12/24/2006, 12:43 pm EST
Damone does rock the casbah! Give’em a cover! “Get Up and Go” rocks your houses!
steelah343 | 12/24/2006, 3:08 pm EST
GOLDFRAPP……hands down.
Have you SEEN the Supernature album cover???….Alison would have done an awesome shot for RS.
She’s a damn sight sexier than Fergie (Meth-ilicious) or Christina
Will | 12/24/2006, 3:09 pm EST
For whatever reason (and I’m sure there is one), Guster barely got any attention from RS with their release of “Ganging Up on the Sun” – not even a review. That said, especially since it was an overlooked great album, a Guster cover would’ve been nice.
he | 12/24/2006, 3:10 pm EST

garbage. but that would be the same response in any year since they’ve never had a cover story in the u.s. the title of the story could be “the best band in the world that your not listening to.”

AXL ROSE
Aaron D. | 12/25/2006, 12:50 am EST
There were maybe four RS covers with deserving, worthwhile subjects this year. Plenty of real, more exciting artists were overlooked.
Regina Spektor, Gogol Bordello, Butch Walker, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the Decemberists, My Chemical Romance, the Dresden Dolls, Lady Sovereign and plenty of other real artists deserved covers this year.
But what did we get? Christina and Fergie. They’ve got about as much edge as a bowling ball.
me | 12/26/2006, 11:27 am EST
MCR!!!!!!!!!!!
Please give them a cover in ‘07!!!

Krantus | 12/27/2006, 6:16 pm EST
I think the Arctic Monkeys should’ve been represented more this year. Yes, RS loved them, but no cover? Please.
