Rolling Stone’s Best Bands on MySpace: Winners Announced Tomorrow!

12/21/06, 3:12 pm EST

MySpace, Rolling StoneWe’ve made our list, we’re checking it twice and tomorrow we’ll finally reveal our picks for the 25 Best Bands on MySpace. It’s taken countless hours of buffering, listening and deliberation, but we think our list makes it all worth it. Just because this is the end of the contest, that doesn’t mean our MySpace page is going away. It will still be a forum for you — our new friends — to get breaking music news, talk and meet other RS fans, harass us to listen to your band and get exclusive RS content. Will we host more contests? Well, should we? So stop by, talk back to us, be our friend, join the party. As for our 25 Best Bands on MySpace contest, any predictions for tomorrow?

I agree Melbourne Chick. Eon Automatic is great to listen and even better to watch. They have been a little quiet lately though. :(

You haven’t lived until you’ve seen THE VIRGINIA CITY REVIVAL!

Saw them for the firs time last week in LA at a club called Safari Sams. I’ve never seen anything like this: Some crazy “revival” setting with a real reverend leading the crew & singing. Something in a dress rockin’ like AceFreely mixed with Angus Young on one guitar, some rabid rocking dude on the other. Both WAILING! The most most amazing bassplayer I’d seen in a long while, rockin & funky like he was born of Iron Maiden and James Jamerson (!) and not one but TWO hard hitting drummers, playing like they just got out of jail!

Don’t believe me, HA! : www.myspace.com/thevirgin iacit yrevival

I hear they are putting music into the new Jackass video game too.

If any Best of MySpace doesn’t include THE WISH YOU WERES “Sick Friend” then the contest is void. There is a reason why Sick Friend has dominated the MySPaceCharts.com Punk chart for so long. Its good stuff. And Ryan Neal English. Thats where its at.

Bryan Scary at just 23 years old is the next musical genious to appear on the scene. his new C.D. is getting rave reviews across the country and he’s is being compared to a mixture of ELO, Queen and the Beatles.A MUST listen. Of course I expect to see him on your list of 25.

Melbourne chick | 12/22/2006, 8:13 am EST

They don’t spam their friends begging them to vote for them on this site, but a genuinely good band is Eon Automatic.
www.myspace.com/eon automatic/

Seriously, I have seen them live about 8 times and they are really cool.
They are not the sort of band to seek a massive amount of self-promotion, but they are sensational.

No contest, Five Times August. Not only is Brad’s music phenomenal, but I saw him perform at The Lion’s Den in NYC and not only was he more then willing to do pictures and autographs after the show, but he also called one of my friends and left a voicemail saying he wished she could have made it to the show. He’s amazing and so is his music. An exposure like this in Rolling Stone is definately something Five Times August deserves!

Kaitlyn | 12/22/2006, 12:49 am EST

I heard Better With You and Save It For Later on some show on the Oxygen channel a couple nights ago…Brad sure is getting out there a lot for being an unsigned artist!!! I love you Brad (aka Five Times August!)))

Plus, look at all the fans who are supporting him! We’ve shown the most support out of all the bands, FTA owns!

Fans = Money :)

Go FTA!!!!

Five Times August should be in the Top 25 because they are an amazing band! Not only are they an amazing band, but the music is not like all other bands, they have their style of uniqueness and thats what makes them so good. “The Most Uncommon Thing” is a great song and alot of people seem to relate to alot of their music they write…

Went to a concert, heard the songs and they are amazing. Better With You is just one of his many great songs by a great artist. Can’t say enough about an artist who hangs out with his fans for hours after the show. He signs everything for each fan and loves it. Great music, great guy.

Five Times August is by fay one of the greatest bands that i have ever heard. even now that it is just Brad, it is still unbelievable. he has suck a great voice. and he has so many songs that a lof of people can relate to and can listen to when they are in love with someone. u cant find many singers that do that anymore. so that is y u shoud choose Five Times August.

I LOOOVE | 12/21/2006, 11:17 pm EST

FIVE TIMES AUGUST! I had the pleasure of meeting Brad himself in Laguna Beach when he played a show here (it’s all done by one guy even though it’s a band name.) He was humble even though he rocked my face off with his UNBELIEVABLE guitar skills and slighly scratch, soo sexy voice! Come back to LB Brad! I love ALL the songs, and RS you should put him as #1!!!!!!

I’m forever a fan,

If there is any decency in this world, “Long Since Forgotten” will make the cut… If not, I’m sure we will read about them within the year anyway. I just like to think that Rolling Stone has a good ear for this stuff!

Best of luck to all the bands!

mz.rae | 12/21/2006, 10:21 pm EST

Matt Williams… he is already on my top 25 ..Rolling Stone he needs to be on yours!!!!

That’s, “you will HAVE reserved a spot…”

Raymond S. Pieinnersky | 12/21/2006, 9:19 pm EST

If you’ve any sense, I’m confident you will reserved a spot for the literary, lilting sounds of Ash Valley.

turtledove | 12/21/2006, 8:47 pm EST

I hope Night Driving in Small Towns makes the list.

Jim | 12/21/2006, 8:23 pm EST

Circa Survive. Hands down.

Dannie Sawyer | 12/21/2006, 8:23 pm EST

Art of Chaos didn’t make it to the list, I know tons of people voted for them, I totally think they should get a spot. I don’t think I’ve ever come across a band with so much heart and dedication to their fans on Myspace, they really make use of the online world and connecting with people, not only through the net but through their music. Truly inspiring. They deserve a spot!

musicguy101 | 12/21/2006, 7:53 pm EST

Five Times August certainly had a lot more fans post comments and show their support than any other band on the list. My vote goes to FTA.

Good luck to all of you. I think Kolja or Five Times August is going to win. But I wish
Grandma Vs. Pancake would win with Giggle Water.

BRYAN SCARY and The Shredding Tears will for sure be on the list! Scary is the master of music and it would be a sin to leave him off the list.

Hopefully Matt Williams makes the list…this guy is really talented and deserves the publicity

i haven’t seen the list yet, but I already know it sucks.

Andi | 12/21/2006, 5:42 pm EST

I think Killola will be on the list. They are absolutely amazing. How could they not be?

Max Maxfield | 12/21/2006, 5:31 pm EST

Archives Of are have my vote!! Their music is wonderful.

Oh and the URL for Alex Arrowsmith’s myspace is www.myspace.com/alexarrowsmith

Hey! Buffering sucks.

Anyway… Rick Parker (BRMC, Von Bondies, Dandy Warhols) worked on Killola’s debut CD.

Its an immense record. I predict they’ll make the list.

Alex Arrowsmith really deserves to make the list. He is consistently making great off-kilter pop music. “Coldplay Got Eaten By Piranhas” is a great example of his talent.

I’d be suprised if you didn’t put Archives Of in your top 25. So my prediction goes to a band who stands out and sounds nothing like the other bands mentioned on the boards(and I’ve looked at quite a few). Don’t miss out on this band you might as well be the people to break them…or someone else will.

IF you were looking for fresh new music that makes your head nod, toes tap and ass shake, SLOWEARTH should be on that list!

SlowEarth is the business!

You KNOW I’m predicting David Paul Campbell will make the list. That’s the best guitar I’ve heard in years.
