Pink Becomes Most Common Focus of Australian Farmers’ Murderous Fantasies

12/20/06, 5:38 pm EST

PinkWe will not be watching Pink’s controversial, and apparently pretty gruesome anti-Australian wool PETA video. (We’re total animal freaks who cry at the mere mention of Gorillas in the Mist.) But you might want to. The pop star is so convincing in it that Australia’s treasurer, Peter Costello, has reportedly responded to Pink’s comments and invited the singer to meet with (the soon-to-be-starving presumably doe-eyed and cherubic children of) Australian wool farmers whose livelihood she’s condemning. “Pink is entitled to her views but at the end of the day would Australia’s farmers take advice from Pink?” he reportedly said. Of course not, dude. No one expects that farmers will abandon mulesing (the procedure to which PETA objects) based on the whining of an American pop star, but if all of Pink’s fans boycott cute little merino wool cropped sweaters this winter, the industry could really feel it.

Does it annoy you when artists pick a pet cause and tout it like this, or do you respect the idea that they’re using their celebrity for a good cause?

it’s total BS!

How much leather does she own?
Where and how do you think diamonds come from pink?

Why wont all these pop/rock stars shut the F**K up about all of this… and who the F takes pop stars seriously?

Coxy | 12/20/2006, 7:23 pm EST

The lack on any serious rain water in the region will…make for a worst death then at the hands of the local farmers..

She can buy all the sheep..bingo put your money were you mouth is.
I would worry about China and the crap that they dish out to animals then sheep in Oz

brad | 12/20/2006, 7:37 pm EST

I for one applaud Pink on her compassionate decision. Do you guys seriously think PETA just jumped at the chance to cripple the industry by asking Pink to narrate the video? PETA has met with wool growers for years and years but they still say mulesing isn’t cruel. Mulesing is in fact the most crudest, cheapest way possible to handle flystrike, and so if the australian wool industry is so scared of Pink crippling their costs, why don’t they just use alternatives.

And I suggest you guys all watch the video before you post any negative comments. It really opens your eyes on how much these animals suffer for a wool jacket.

Dave | 12/20/2006, 9:35 pm EST

I grew up on a farm where mulesing was a reguler season practice. No farmer likes doing this to stock, and a number have moved to alternative options. The problem is that it is easy to say that you should “ocasionally remove the wool around the rump”. Sheep farms run on low margins and the time and cost often outweighs the benifit. At the end of the day these are family businesses, and while mulesing is a prick of a thing to do, I think that the industry should be allowed the four year adjustment period it agreed on before PETA starts destroying thier livelihoods. Currently Aussie is in the grip of a massive drought, with people being forced to walk off thier property and a farmer commiting suicide on average every four days.
the industry will change, it has to, but it cant happen overnight. The fact is that PETA is also seroiusly damaging the wool industry of New Zealand, where mulesing is a rare occourance. Operating such a broad spectrum approach without fully under standing farming systems runs the risk of undermining practices of agriculture on which these countries base thier primary GDP income.
Perspective on this issue needs to be sought and proactive solutions based on a transitional basis need to be implimented to bring change, not rants by non indusrty based outsiders who have little understanding of the industry as a whole.

What a load of crap.

Another b-grade pop star jumps on another band wagon. Get a life!!!

Sings some songs, get some more tats but leave your opinions to people that work in or know something about that industry.

How would she like it if farmers starting becoming CD & concert reviewers!!!!

jenny | 12/21/2006, 12:14 am EST

i just wish they had a better way to kill the animals instead of cutting them up alive. and its not like a pop star is only capable of thinking of entertainment. i think you got the wrong idea…your assuming things by thier label. telling stars to shut the * up isnt a good argument. normal people are against this smack too. we all know its cruel.

Voice of Reason | 12/21/2006, 1:06 am EST

I’m willing to bet that Pink has testicles and a penis. Anyone agree?

tristan | 12/21/2006, 3:03 am EST

Ahem..I’m very curious to know where Travis watkins thinks diamonds come from. He seems to think some animal is killed for it…I expect he’s referring to miners who aren’t vegetarian.

Michael DSA | 12/21/2006, 4:25 am EST

I totally support Pink and her decision. She is one of the few celeberties that is using their image in a positive way to better the world and not their bank accounts.

Marsea | 12/21/2006, 5:49 am EST

The people telling her to shut the F**k up should take their own advice. I think that it’s great that she is using her celebrity to stand up against something that people know little about and that should be known. I appreciate the plight of the farmers, but their livelihoods should not come at the expense of their humanity. And yes, there are other causes, including but not limited to the sick things that are happening to animals in China, but that doesn’t mean that this one should be ignored. Anything that opens people’s eyes to animal (or human) cruelty is worth commending.
And travis watkins, she says at the beginning of the video that she has stopped wearing leather and now wears imitation leather and other non-animal clothing. Maybe you should actually watch the video before you condemn it and her.

Realist | 12/21/2006, 7:44 am EST

How much will PETA know make by elisting Pink as a spokesperson? I hope she is informed on the issue and not just another ignorant celeb looking to be cool.
We all can’t make movies and records to get rich, some of us have to work to support our familes in industries that are not “pop friendly”.

MrBrightside777 | 12/21/2006, 8:48 am EST

In case any of you have a fucking heart…read your comments!!!!
You miserable fucks were just probably on your way to masturbate your tiny dicks out to another porn video when you decided to see this…who in the world do you think you are?!? You think you’re life’s a shit so you just hate on everyone that actually tries to do something with their own…you’re sad! You want to know what a sad life is…go the nearest hospital and visit the cancer patients…they lead a crappy life….the elderly they lead a crappy life! You’re just to fucking affraid to live a life! You just take up space in the world!
I applaude Pink for voicing her opinion…i’s important to do so.
As a final advise get off the computer and do something!
Bye

Boner | 12/21/2006, 9:37 am EST

Fuck PETA

Hantz | 12/21/2006, 10:44 am EST

Travis Watkins? You better not be the Travis Watkins that took my 100+ NES games to San Antonio, only to bail and leave them with some room-mate that will likely never return them. If you are not the man known as T-Wat, Shaddy Watkins, Shadrach, Jabberwock, amongst other nicknames, then please pay me no mind.

But dammit, if this is Shaddy, I’m furious with your ass.

Orion | 12/21/2006, 11:03 am EST

I would like to think there are more important issues in the world today that celebrities can lobby for other than Australian wool farmers. How about the war in Iraq, genocide in Sudan, global warming, etc… Wake up and reprioritize people! Apparently people like Brad take this adolescent crap too seriously. Way to stand up for such an important global issue Pink – we’re all behind you – not!

LIKROPER.COM | 12/21/2006, 11:39 am EST

doesn’t rolling stone ‘pick a pet cause’ when they oppose war?…and if so; so what?…and too bad if i don’t like it!…

i say if you don’t like my opinions – don’t buy my music…it’s better to light one small candle than curse the darkne$$…

natec | 12/21/2006, 11:43 am EST

Personally, I hate it when PETA folks try to make me become one of those vegetarians. I like meat. If they don’t fine, but I don’t want them telling me not to enjoy a nice roasted chicken, or as in this case, a leg of lamb. Pink, go take a flying leap off a cliff you twit.

Kliffee | 12/21/2006, 1:06 pm EST

I love how people want stars to shutup when the stars say something they don’t agree with.
What’s wrong with sticking up for non-humans? Just because there are other horrible things going on, doesn’t make them worse than animal abuse or animal abuse a lesser issue. If the non-humans could speak our language, trust me, They’d think it was a big issue.

Kliffee | 12/21/2006, 1:09 pm EST

And another thing, why can’t you fight to stop bad things from happening if those bad things are what people make a living from?
Guess what? Slave owners made a living from slaves…well they still do in certain parts of the world, including sweatshops.
Just cuz you make a living doesn’t mean we can’t try to get rid of it.
Drug dealers make a living from selling drugs……’nuff said.

As a unknown freind of Mick Jaguer.,I would like to wish The Rolling Stones a good time for all, but especially for Mick. That is due to working for the same Band is not easy for such a time.
Come to think of it-For Such A Time, may be another song Title.

Ryan | 12/22/2006, 4:39 am EST

How about Pink mentions Canada exporting asbestos which kills people! She should focus on issues closer to home, Australia has enough to worry about drought wise without some pop star trying to be political.

GrammarPolice | 12/22/2006, 5:54 am EST

Pink, remember all those Flamingo’s that were killed for your hair dye. Oh, I’m sorry, that not an animal bi-product it’s just a toxic chemical spill that happened to find it’s way into your brain cells through your hair follicles! Let’s try consistency!

Doo doo doo doo, dah dah dah dah….

buckfutter | 12/22/2006, 11:45 am EST

When is pink going to get a sex change? Or did she already? She’s an angry dike!

Nut cracker | 1/9/2007, 8:31 am EST

I have to say muelsing is nasty and live export should be banned, but nothing is ever black n white… Do PETA & Pink really beleive farmers enjoy muelsing??Flys are a serious issue in Aus, maybe we could farm flys instead.

I agree with coxy, go to China or the middle east if you wanna see real animal cruelty or maybe even http://www.petakillsanimals.com. Pink and co, why dont ya’ll go kick some Olsen twin arse for wearing fur! I thought we were beyond that, bring back the faux, mo fo!
