Jeezy Outsells Prematurely Gray Idol, Coldplay Is Cooler Than Metallica, Tour MJ’s Neverland

12/20/06, 1:57 pm EST

Young Jeezy

  • Young Jeezy may be all about cred, but he’s now also all about big debuts. His new record, Inspiration: Thug Motivation, sold 352,392 copies in its first week on the charts, securing it the Number One spot, just ahead of Soul Patrol leader Taylor Hicks’ self-titled debut, which sold 298,199 copies in its first week. Also noteworthy on this week’s charts: Grammy-nominee queen Mary J. Blige came in at Number Nine with her new album Reflections: A Retrospective (which sold 171,093 copies in its first week) and Beyonce’s B-Day making a big show as a go-to last-minute holiday purchase with 20 percent more copies sold this week than last week.
  • A British court has determined that founding Procol Harum member Matthew Fisher is entitled to 40 percent of the copyright on “Whiter Shade of Pale.” Though he’s not being awarded the back royalties he requested, the song is a huge ringtone hit, so he and (now co-writer) Gary Brooker can duke out over this generation’s downloading dollars. Okay, that’s depressing.
  • Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler has confirmed the band’s new record will be titled Neon Bible. “I can’t wait for you to hear it,” Butler wrote on the band’s Web site. Neither can we, Win — it’s so cool when you talk directly to us like that. Kiss kiss!
  • It’s depressing to admit, but Coldplay’s Happy Holidays video is way more fun than Metallica’s. This is not the season to be cool, which makes it perfect for Coldplay, whose usually nauseating goofy sincerity really comes across well in this stupid, sweet clip.
  • Who wants to purchase Neverland for $50 million? Okay, how about a nationally televised tour of the place? All of us, even those over the age of ten, can check out Michael Jackson’s legendary love nest/theme park on Bravo, when the place is featured as a part of its series Million Dollar Listing: Hollywood. What horrors lie therein?

Good God, a greatest hits collection does not an “album” make. A Mary J. Blige album does not an album make for that matter.

Kiss, kiss? Who says stuff like that?

It is so easy for folks to be nasty hiding behind a monitor.

Elizabeth, you just keep freeing that free thing. You’re groovy, girl. Don’t let the bastards drag you down.

And Mr. Jones thought hip hop was dead.If that’s the case, then today’s lyricists reaching number 1 might as well represent immortality(no offense,my brotha).By the way, where did Nas rank on the charts?

tallicaforlife | 12/20/2006, 8:28 pm EST

hey. i really dig coldplay. clocks is a very mesmerising song. but, to say there better then metallica? I don’t know, no offence to coldplay, but that’s just not true.

Nas won’t be on the charts til next week but will probably debut at #1. Both Jeezy and Nas will probably drop down the charts very quick while Taylor Hicks’ album stays near the top for a while longer.

I bet Tito is secretly beside himself with joy at Michael’s current kid-touching troubles.
