
- Lou Reed has referred to the makers of Factory Girl as “whores” and stated that an early version of the script he read was “one of the most disgusting, foul things [he’d] seen — by any illiterate retard — in a long time.” Adding, “there’s no limit to how low some people will go to write something to make money.” When asked to comment, the film’s director George Hickenlooper pointed out that while those working on the film are working for scale, Reed would be making some money off the film, as they’ve licensed some of his songs.
- Finally you get the recognition we deserve, even if it does come via a Time Magazine cop out. The venerable news pondering publication named “you” as its person of the year, 2006. You were recognized in honor of your rampant, insatiable use of the internet, and you should be thrilled, even though everybody knows you only won cause they couldn’t secure exclusive covers with either Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, or Kim Jong-il.
- Were Air ever not “in a Zen mood” or feeling influenced by “classical music” on any of their records? Anyway, this time around, on new album Pocket Symphony (out March 20th) they are officially both.
- John Cale gets on the Bowie/Byrne bandwagon and starts mentoring young up and coming bands. His first project? Ambulance Ltd., which apparently did not break up but has only one guy still officially in the band.
- Stereogum notes that the Guardian have secured dentally challenged celtic punk Shane MacGowan as their new guest blogger. No idea how long this insanity will be going on, so check out his anti Scottish smoking ban rants here while you can.
