Lunchtime Poll: She Came in Through the Bathroom Window

12/15/06, 11:06 am EST

Marianne FaithfulMarianne Faithfull is your rock fairygodmother. You wake up one night and she’s sitting on the foot of your bed, ashing onto the dust ruffle. “I’m here to grant one wish” she moan/purrs. “You can travel back in time and witness the recording of any album you want by any band you’d like.” Who do you tell her you’d like to visit, and which album would you watch them record?

Revolver- The Beatles
easily one of the greatest cds ever. the ideas and creativity flying around in that studio would have been amazing. Finally being able to see George Harrison come out of his shell and write some amazing songs and watching John come up with “Tommorow Never Knows” would have been awe inspiring.peace

Shady Hoboken | 12/15/2006, 12:29 pm EST

Ya, ya ya….OF COURSE:

Revolver or Sgt Peppers, Exile on Main St, Pet Sounds, Layla

….But less obvious yet STILL would be awesome to see them being recorded …

Achtung Baby- Totally different direction for U2…basically the band pissed and heartbroken and wandering around Berlin in the late 80’s. I think the best rock album to come out in the past 20 years.

The Chronic, Dr Dre- I have an image that the recording of this
was a lot like the parties they have in thier videos. Extremely sharp yet loose, casual and fun.

Double Fantasy, John Lennon/Ono- Lennon’s rebirth from “retirement” would have been cool to witness.

Hon Mention:
Siamese Dream, Smashing Pumpkins
The Velvet Underground and Nico

Ouroboros | 12/15/2006, 12:42 pm EST

Radiohead-OK Computer, haunted castle magic at its best.

The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts club Band, world’s greatest band at their peak, revolutionized recording in all aspects

Electric Ladyland…Jimi Hendrix

Songs In The Key Of Life…Stevie Wonder

Fleetwood Mac-Rumors. Family disfunction at it’s finest. Everyone breaking up, sleeping with other people, the drugs. Yup.

Chuck | 12/15/2006, 4:56 pm EST

The obvious ones I can say are

Beatles – Sgt. Peppers…just to see what revolutionizing the recordig process would look like.
Radiohead’s Ok Computer and Kid A, both amazing. It would be fun because the band didn’t think they were doing anything that spectacular, so it would be fun to watch them accidently make two of the best records ever.

But one I haven’t seen mentioned yet is Smashing Pumpkins’s Melon Collie album. Not as revolutionizing as Sgt. Peppers, but with all that was flying around, and egos as they were, it would be fun to watch Corgan make one of the greatest albums ever while knowingly doing so.

if not, then ‘rumours’. i’d like to see if they actually had the nitrous oxide cannisters and the piles of coke. the tension in the air just had to be palpable.

‘murmurs’ to see if bill berry actually fell down the stairs while recording ‘perfect circle’ (i think that’s the story).

’sticky fingers’, out of pure curiosity.

‘hunky dory’ to see what bowie was wearing when he recorded ‘kooks’.
