Stooges Are 2007’s First Must-See Show, Paul Weller’s American Fan(s) and More

12/13/06, 2:32 pm EST

Stooges

  • We were seriously considering skipping this year’s indie-rock-peddling, week-long hangover known as SXSW but then the Stooges went and announced they’ll be performing at the event. As if our minds weren’t sufficiently blown by the fact that in March the band will release Weirdness, their first album in 30 years, now we have to refocus on going to Austin.
  • We thought Americans didn’t give a shit about Paul Weller? The reluctant icon of all Mod revivalists reportedly sold out three New York dates in less than three minutes. Now he’s added dates in L.A. At this rate he’ll overtake the heartland next week.
  • “Leaked Demos, weird me out to the max,” Karen O writes on the Yeah Yeah Yeahs Web site, in response to yesterday’s fury over a collection of unreleased O tracks put online. As per usual, the bowl-cut-sporting vixen is the essence of rational badassness. Our hero.
  • If you don’t already have your tickets for the Princess Di tribute contest then you didn’t really love her (but you can still go). The first tickets reportedly sold out in about a day.
  • It’s apparently no accident that Meatloaf’s upcoming Seize The Night tour starts out in California in February and ends up in New York City in April. He’s avoiding the snow. “I don’t do cold,” the temperature-sensitive rocker reportedly said. Good to know. Dates after the jump.

Canada and upstate New York are still pretty damn cold in March.

The Stooges will be awesome, I guarantee it.

I’ll be in Austin for that show.

Hopefully it will be at the Austin Music Hall and not Stubb’s or Emo’s.

paul weller is amazing…he is criminally underrated in america.

coopaloop | 12/13/2006, 6:10 pm EST

I’m with Ken, especially with the quality of his first three solo albums.

Kandyman | 12/13/2006, 6:36 pm EST

Steve | 12/13/2006, 8:30 pm EST

What is up with British acts like Weller forgetting there’s anywhere else in the U.S. besides NY and LA? I know the midwest sucks ass, but there’s still no reason he couldn’t pull the same size crowds in Chicago. Laaaaame.

boo boo | 12/14/2006, 10:20 am EST

the stooges fucking rock!

now thats a reunion worth seeing!

Loneshewolf | 12/15/2006, 4:41 pm EST

Iggy is the best. And I hope the remaining Stooges will live up to the high standard he set in his solo career. I can’t wait to hear their new album!
