Rolling Stone’s Best Bands On MySpace: Round Two

12/12/06, 6:06 pm EST

Rolling StoneWe have spent a LOT of time on MySpace in the last 24 hours. Now that we’ve promised to check out every band you nominate for our Best Bands on MySpace contest, we have to actually check out every band you nominate. Just to be clear: That means we REALLY notice if the same person nominates the same band 400 times. We notice, then we toss that band out of the running. So please don’t do that. (Full list of rules after the jump).

Anyway, today we present you with five more awesome nominees from the vast MySpace pool. Tell us what you think in our comments section, but if you want to recommend a band, remember that we’re only accepting submissions via our MySpace page. Talk here. Nominate there. Cool?

Today’s special nominees, in no particular order:

  • Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears - “The Ceiling on the Wall”: www.myspace.com/bryanscary
  • An Pierle & White Velvet - “How Does It Feel”: www.myspace.com/anpierleandwhitevelvet
  • The Fancy Claps - “Holly”: www.myspace.com/thefancyclapson
  • The Voom Blooms - “Thoughts of Rena”: www.myspace.com/thevoomblooms
  • Ultra Sonic Edukators - “Salle Green”: www.myspace.com/ultrasonicedukators

Remember, you only get ONE song to grab our attention. So choose the song that best exemplifies your sound. Here are the rules and regulations. READ THEM ALL BEFORE SUBMITTING:

1) To enter, go to myspace.com/rollingstonemagazine. Click on the top blog entry, “Rolling Stone’s Best Bands on MySpace, 2006.”

2) In the “Add Comment” box, type in your/the band’s name, the title of the ONE SONG you’re submitting, and your MySpace Web address. This is the ONLY place to submit your song. Any submissions via messages, comments on the main MySpace page, or RollingStone.com will not be considered.

3) You must submit by December 18th. After that, the blog post will be locked up, thus ending your ability to enter. So get your shit in gear.

4) When we say “Best Bands on MySpace,” we totally mean solo artists should enter too. Best MySpace Solo Artist has too many syllables, and it isn’t as catchy to say. But we love you guys, and you should submit your work.

5) You may only enter the contest once. Any artist that enters more than once will be disqualified.

6) Don’t submit a cover of someone else’s song. Only original songs will be considered. But if we like your submission and there’s a cover on your page, it’s no harm, no foul.

7) No HTML codes! It will be deleted, along with your submission.

8) Any blog comments not pertaining to the contest will be deleted.

9) Make sure the song you submit is loaded onto your MySpace music player and that it works. If it doesn’t work, you’re shit out of luck, ’cause we’re not going to check back later.

10) All submitted songs must have been loaded onto your MySpace music player no earlier than January 1st, 2006.

11) Only enter the contest by hitting “Add Comment” below. Any submission posted by hitting “Reply” to any other band’s submission will be ignored, then deleted. Don’t cut the line. We’ll listen to every submission.

12) No soliciting for your song or asking about the status of your song via messages, comments, e-mails, etc. If your song is among those chosen, we’ll let you know.

13) Other than those rules above, there are no rules!

The Fancy Claps suck! They’re posers. There is already a band named The Fancy Claps… Since 1 year ago.

ultra sonic edukators is definately the winner of this competition. props to [use].

Edukators are ridiculous..there is no competition here…vote them

alex | 12/21/2006, 9:05 am EST

in reading over these comments, the only the comments about bryan scary (for the most part) seem to elaborate on what is specifically great about the band. its hard to understand what people really like about the other bands? it feels like most of this other stuff has been done before and that bryan scary is the band that really stands out. after listening to their myspace page, i have to agree.

Jen | 12/20/2006, 10:49 am EST

the voom blooms are pretty

From Southside of Chicago | 12/19/2006, 3:27 pm EST

I think Kolja(I think that is the name) is the best band that I have heard on here. Chelsea has a beautiful voice though I think her other music selections are better. Also check out Bryan Scary’s Ceiling on the Wall, it is a pretty wild song. Any Billy Joel influence.

My personal favorite is my hometown’s demo.

“Salle Green” refused to work and Bryan Scary’s myspace page broke my computer. Therefore, my votes go to The Fancy Claps and An Pierlé.

I have seen the Fancy Claps on various occassions.
On each of these occassions I have had to bring extra changes of underpants.
It is better left unexplained.

fan | 12/18/2006, 11:52 pm EST

Fancy claps are easily the BEST band on this list, and would be foolish to think other wise. these other groups should be humbleed just to be put in thesame category as this band.

Garretto Manguito Moheto | 12/18/2006, 11:37 pm EST

FANCY CLAPS ROCK!!! style, skill, solos, they got it all!

Jerzy Lover a.k.a Travis | 12/17/2006, 1:48 pm EST

Jerzy Jung is by far the best solo artist around, not just on myspace. Her lyrics are original, meaningful, and profound w/o the pop-chart cheese — and they should be, because they materialize from her personal and collective experiences. Her words and expressive nature are tangible in a way that so few artists have a talent for. Jerzy pours her heart and passion into her lyrics and is equally as devoted to the music. Even if she doesn’t win this contest, she still represents (and will someday be recognized publicly) as one of the few, great solo artists of all time.

Thomas B] | 12/17/2006, 1:28 pm EST

An Pierlé & White Velvet for the win ;)

An Pierle & White Velvet are the best!!!!

Great songs, magical live

Randy | 12/15/2006, 1:05 pm EST

anyone who has seen Ultra Sonic Edukators would know that they are insane to watch live!! 2 drummers!! amazing piano/aux man! 3guitars! bass playing that would make sir paul proud. they have the energy of a BJM or Beta Band and the charm of early Blur. exceptional really.

Right Said Fred | 12/15/2006, 11:04 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators are better than Blur, SFA, and The Beatles…but they need a cool name, like the Oneders.

jaybees | 12/15/2006, 10:36 am EST

An pierle & white velvet are the best
see her on live it is magical
it’s the best!!

Merel Daemen | 12/15/2006, 10:14 am EST

The An Pierlé & White Velvet band are the best! i really hope they win this!!!!!!!!!!

Annemarie | 12/15/2006, 8:57 am EST

If seen live once, you’ll know your vote can only go to An Pierlé.

In every show she knows re-invents herself with the best on-stage wit, charm, fragility and power all roled in one.
And than there’s the men of White Velvet who are the right band to compliment An’s compositions.

If you’re not able to go to one of her shows, ook for some Pierle videos on YouTube and you’ll be convinced!

fred | 12/15/2006, 7:41 am EST

well i think that all of these bands are great and all bands are great because music is great but i also think that the ultra sonic edukators, while having a stupider name than the other bands, have the greater music. of course, that is only my opinion. and you would be quite foolish to value my opinion. but it remains that it is my opinion. that my opinion is the ultra sonik alligators (now that’s a name!) are the superior musicians and songwriters and therefore deserve fame, glory and success.

Ice Hockey Hair | 12/15/2006, 4:19 am EST

look- i think Edukators are def in the same camp as my boys SFA…. luckily they sit in a tastelful realm. if they didnt’ then i’d def. give my vote to Bryan Scary or Fancy Claps.

Laura | 12/15/2006, 2:46 am EST

An Pierlé & White Velvet absolutely stand out! Class song!

jack | 12/15/2006, 2:14 am EST

Every time I listen to “Salle Green” I get the same feeling that I got when I beat cancer….for the third time.

Pootie | 12/15/2006, 12:05 am EST

I think Ultra Scary Edukators should win….a hybrid of the two best bands…they should join forces.

MASTER OF AWESOME! | 12/15/2006, 12:05 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators rocks! I saw them at hedgpeth music festival and the Elbo Room and they were amazing. Salle Green is a great song along with all the others I’ve heard. Ultra Sonic Edukators definitely my vote. BOO YAH!

Anonymous | 12/15/2006, 12:00 am EST

yeah, like Night Moves

corn on the cob | 12/14/2006, 11:59 pm EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators sound a bit like Blur. Which isn’t really a bad thing. Salle Green is a really catchy song, sounds familiar.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 11:56 pm EST

yeah, the fancy claps are young-and it shows…

CousinLisa | 12/14/2006, 11:44 pm EST

Fancy Claps kick ass

Art lover | 12/14/2006, 11:15 pm EST

Scary sounds like Ben Folds? HMMM, I just dont see it, Ive heard about 7 songs from the Bryan Scary album now and I get more of a Peter Gabriel, ELO, Beatles, Flaming Lips vibe than a Ben Folds vibe. Seems to be a lot more theatrical and eclectic than Ben Folds. More musically gifted if u will. I love what I have heard so far of the Scary album and just ordered the album 5 minutes ago. Edukators sound like an exciting new band as well. Music is for enjoyment people, not competetion, enjoy them all!

Catbus | 12/14/2006, 11:14 pm EST

Of age in Ontario would be 19.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 11:08 pm EST

i like Ultra Sonic Edukators cuz they are HOTT!! the music is good too

Bryan Scary is amazing!!!!!!!!!! I love them!

Does it matter how old they are? They still rock!

JennyWOW | 12/14/2006, 10:34 pm EST

Underage? How old are these guys??

Al_Jegma | 12/14/2006, 10:32 pm EST

There’s so much hatred on here for some of these bands! Personally, I like all of them, but my top 3 would have to be (in no particular order):

Ultra Sonic Edukators
The Fancy Claps
An Pierle & White Velvet

Bravo, guys. Bravo!

Spark | 12/14/2006, 10:23 pm EST

Yay for Ultra Sonic Edukators with their song Salle Green!

T-Babes | 12/14/2006, 10:20 pm EST

Damn this thing and its not letting me post.

I think the Fancy Claps are more than decent for just a bunch of kids.
Not to mention explosive live…and by explosive, I mean underage.

jack | 12/14/2006, 9:30 pm EST

Every time I listen to “Salle Green” I get the same feeling that I got when I overcame leprosy…..TERIFFIC

Dear Dear USEr | 12/14/2006, 8:45 pm EST

I’m awful glad you like the Edukators, of course, but as for myself, I could only DREAM of being in a band that rockin’. Nope, this wanna-be USEr is a mere MySpace friend to the world’s coolest band.

(From the original “USEr”)

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 7:50 pm EST

HAHA he bashed you BRYAN SCARY or should i say BRYAN SCARED or BRYAN WHINNING! HAHAHA….don’t be so defensive in the future…its all in good fun! HAHAHA

hippotonomous | 12/14/2006, 7:48 pm EST

wow, somebody from Bryan Scary just got SO offended by the accusations of being a Ben Folds rip off that he finally got upset (woke up?)enough to make a fool of himself and his band by posting a defensive message…we’ll be real careful in the future not to hurt your feelings…so sorry…can i get you a tissue?

Autonomous | 12/14/2006, 7:31 pm EST

Wow, Somebody upset(woke up?) the cute little benny folds kids. Aren’t they sweet! We’ll be real careful in future not to directly criticize that whining droner in front of the children.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 6:15 pm EST

Super Furry Animals sounds eerily similar to Ultra Sonic Edukators…hmmm…coincidence ? I think not, Edukators wish they were Animals.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 6:12 pm EST

An Pierle is BORING

Janbonline | 12/14/2006, 6:04 pm EST

Although this year was a big disappointment in musical sense, there was one band who made me very happy by making the best album this year by far: Hail to An Pierlé & White Velvet!

AN PIERLE IS THE BEST!!!

hi

fred torphy | 12/14/2006, 4:06 pm EST

recently, i spent a few months driving around US of A w/ APOLLO SUNSHINE in a van that was converted to run on veggie oil. well, the van gave us some serious problems that were, at times, scary. yes, the new bryan scary record was with us the whole tour, and I listened to it several times. it’s juicy and weird.

Peter Swabe | 12/14/2006, 3:24 pm EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators… need i say more?

Gbat | 12/14/2006, 2:55 pm EST

I’m not sure I’m hearing the Ben Folds thing - I mean, both bands have pianos, but Ben Folds seems way more singer-songwriter-ish, heart on sleeve kind of stuff, whereas the Bryan Scary tracks sound more showy and bizarre. Totally different energy - only thing is the piano and the voice (a little bit).

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 2:34 pm EST

Bryan Scary sounds very pretentious….could he be trying any harder? Ben Folds is an authentic, pop guru. “Ben Folds WISHES he sounded that good”?-thank you for bestowing your ignorance upon us. Now we know how idiotic Bryan Scary fans are.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 2:22 pm EST

Except Ben Folds doesnt care cuz he is sitting on a stack of cash, and is laughing at this band for their pathetic attempt at sounding like him.

Lauz | 12/14/2006, 2:17 pm EST

Ceiling on the Wall (Bryan Scary) blows the others out of the water. Ben Folds WISHES he sounded that good.

Molly | 12/14/2006, 2:07 pm EST

All of these bands are pretty solid. Bryan Scary, Edukators, An Pierle, Voom Blooms are all great in their own way. And the Fancy Claps are incredible at aounding like crap.

Kaisar & The Captain | 12/14/2006, 2:02 pm EST

As belgians we are proud our friends are in this list! An Pierle and the white velvet bring a nice sound with a lot of inspired vibes! Off to round 2!

Murf | 12/14/2006, 1:09 pm EST

Edukators rock the pants off any band in today’s nominees and anyone else you put up against them. Word to your mother.

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 12:37 pm EST

edukators are pretty darn good

TRigger | 12/14/2006, 12:11 pm EST

Edukators are better than Blur, Oasis, and Ben Folds wannabes

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 12:09 pm EST

my point exactly

USEr | 12/14/2006, 12:08 pm EST

VIVA EDUKACION

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 12:06 pm EST

i think ultra sonic edukators and bryan scary are in on something….i think they have this contest rigged. this whole contest is probably some record execs scandal to promote these two bands. is it REALLY just a COINCIDENCE that these bands that have a similar british vibe are placed in a competition surrounded by a bunch of lesser talents? i know how the music industry works, i’ve worked in it. this is a scam to promote Ultra Sonic Edukators and Bryan Scary. The big rivalry on this message board between them is obviously rigged somehow and is probably actually a bunch of promoters sitting back and laughing while they type funny messages taking turns bashing Edukators and Bryan Scary to build some hype.

Katja | 12/14/2006, 12:03 pm EST

I’ll take Bryan Scary AND his Shredding Tears over Blur, Oasis, and everyone else on myspace any day.

Thanks RollingStone.com!!!!

Teenagerfan | 12/14/2006, 12:00 pm EST

BRYAN SCARY-Ceiling on the wall is pretty righteous. Edukators aren’t too shabby either.

Nele | 12/14/2006, 11:56 am EST

An Pierlé just kicks ass!!!!

Laura | 12/14/2006, 11:55 am EST

I think I like Ultra Sonic Edukators and Bryan Scary a lot. I think all the bands are pretty good though, except fancy claps. touch choice though…

I know best | 12/14/2006, 11:53 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators are good, but so is bryan scary. I think they will both be in the top 5. If they aren’t, this contest is stupid b/c they are obviously the two standout artists thus far..

Laura | 12/14/2006, 11:51 am EST

I just love An Pierlé and her White Velvet band!

Someone Who Knows Better | 12/14/2006, 11:45 am EST

Bryan Scary and the Shredding Tears have some interesting elements to their music. For that, I dig, but I have to say “The Ceiling on the Wall” sounds to me like Ben Folds meets the Chipmunks. My vote goes to Ultra Sonic Edukators. “Salle Green” explores elements of SFA, Blur, and Supergrass in an Americanized sort of way that, to my knowledge, has not been heard in the States like this before. Bravo!

K Sieja | 12/14/2006, 11:38 am EST

Ultrasonic is ultra cool!!

David | 12/14/2006, 11:29 am EST

Wow! Bryan Scary is like nothing I’ve ever heard before. Very Excellent vibe! Play on!

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 11:21 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators Pop’n'Roll. Pop on!

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 11:20 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators are cocky. Its obvious they think their band is the sh*t. They are good, but I don’t think I would buy their record b/c of how they act.

Dear USEr | 12/14/2006, 11:16 am EST

Let me guess USEr….you are a member of the edukators-posting comments about your own band. Get some real fans to do your dirty work….like me-you guys are actually really good. but its still stupid that you type about yourself.

Stimey | 12/14/2006, 11:14 am EST

Ultra Sonic Edukators are NOT better than Blur. They are the same. Bryan Scary is not better than Ben Folds. He is a LOT better.

USEr | 12/14/2006, 10:53 am EST

you’re right, Martyn, I couldn’t ask for more. In fact, I wouldn’t want to. Why waste my time on pleasant mediocrity (at best), when I could be listening to SALLE GREEN and the Ultra Sonic Edukators???!! (but hey, keep on rockin’, An)

gntcat | 12/14/2006, 10:53 am EST

An Pierlé is BORING!!

Clarisse | 12/14/2006, 10:43 am EST

Definitly An Pierlé & White Velvet. I’m a too huge fan of them to say anything else. And why? Because of their delightful melodies, because of her voice, because of her kindness, because of their energy on stage, because of what she tell us between songs, because she’s very sympathetic and band too. Yes their gigs are so wonderful and if you, people of America, want to know that inceredible experience, vote for them too. Maybe they will come to you.

Martyn | 12/14/2006, 10:33 am EST

An Pierlé & White Velvet amazing band really lush sound and just such a good vocal you couldn’t ask for more.

DizzyLizzy | 12/14/2006, 10:31 am EST

The Voom Blooms are my favorite band and I’m not even from England! Their sound is unique and they should definitely win best Myspace band of the year! Plus the bass player, Brett, is my hero :)

pearldays | 12/14/2006, 10:30 am EST

I’m so happy An Pierle & White Velvet made it, I really love their music!

Sander | 12/14/2006, 10:19 am EST

oh god, an + the white velvet should tooootally win this.
they’re amazing.

Pieter | 12/14/2006, 10:05 am EST

Wonderful to see An Pierlé & White Velvet in this list from the worlds leading music magazine !

You should actually see them live to feel all of the magic, but for those not willing to cross the ocean, i guess myspace is alright, too.

The Edukators!!! By far the BEST!!!

goodgiellas | 12/14/2006, 9:16 am EST

You think An Pierlé and her white velvet sounds great?
You’re absolutely right!!

lauren | 12/14/2006, 8:51 am EST

Apparantly, an An Pierle fan noticed that nobody cared enough to post any comments about them, so they decided to post a string of like 10 messages in a row under different names. nice try, but you should have been here earlier when it actually mattered…everyone already ousted An Pierle and decided that Bryan Scary and the Ultra Sonic Edukators took round 2.

Moonfeary | 12/14/2006, 8:50 am EST

An Pierlé and White Velvet are awesome! I saw them a few times live, and they rock. Not many times have live performances convinced me to buy an album!!!!

Rick Brands | 12/14/2006, 8:49 am EST

I’d say: An Pierlé & White Velvet, definitely. The other bands are quite okay in their genre, but this is like a genre on itself!

Anonymous | 12/14/2006, 8:32 am EST

AN PIERLé & WHITE VELVET!!! No doubt about it!
“Go Velvets Go Go!!”

caetano | 12/14/2006, 8:24 am EST

let’s admit it… An Pierlé kicks ass!

Hype studio | 12/14/2006, 8:09 am EST

Definitely :Ann Pierlé (and no ,it as not recorded at our studio)
I wish one of the upcoming albums we could work together,as she’s simply amazing on stage.Ann,you rule…

5!MON | 12/14/2006, 8:08 am EST

Her voice is like Heaven
and the white velvet is like Hell on a sunny day !
On stage they are like “what the hell is this heaven!”

the answer is : “it’s belgian”

Pastisan | 12/14/2006, 8:02 am EST

AN PIERLE & WHITE VELVET ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS !

If you want something different in todays music scene besides from the common mainstream “ImaRockStar” crap they play all the time…!

I would definitly say…

An Pierlé & White Velvet !!!…

Ken | 12/14/2006, 6:35 am EST

the an pierle and white velvet song is superbe. they definitely deserve to ‘win’ this round.
too bad they’re belgians though, they won’t stand a chance because of that!

jared | 12/14/2006, 2:58 am EST

ultra sonic edukators are definately the band to compete with. if there was an island pick out of the 5 of these- they would be it.

Travis | 12/14/2006, 1:21 am EST

Bryan Scary & The Shredding Tears ROCK!!! I can’t wait to get my copy of “The Shredding Tears”. Keep up the good work guys!!!

C-J-Whitney | 12/13/2006, 11:11 pm EST

The Fancy Claps hands down. They’re the most original of the batch! Nothing sounds better than a couple guys getting together in a basement to play quality rock!

mary rose | 12/13/2006, 9:37 pm EST

call off the contest, Ultra Sonic Edukators took the cake and ran with it! (be sure to check out their UK page for more fab music!) BTW–totally cool contest. Kudos, Rolling Stone.

David S | 12/13/2006, 9:20 pm EST

I go with The Fancy Claps on this one. I’ve been to two of their shows, and they’re intense live.

Sharp27 | 12/13/2006, 9:14 pm EST

THhe fancy claps are a bunch of wacky character’s especially their townsend-esk drummer.

The Grubby 1 | 12/13/2006, 9:03 pm EST

The Fancy Claps are not a joke man. They made it into round two without any studio polish at all, only the pure rockishness they naturally possess. Isn’t that what rocks about?

Ash Cash | 12/13/2006, 8:52 pm EST

The Fancy Claps are amazing and groovetastic… I have been to almost all of their shows and let me tell you, they can blow all of these other bands away with their music, their groove, and their crazy hair styles =P. They should totally win, no questions asked.

Ben | 12/13/2006, 8:32 pm EST

oh please, the Fancy Claps are a joke of a band compared to Ultra Sonic Edukators and Bryan Scary. Completely different level of talent. Not even comparable.

Higgo | 12/13/2006, 8:26 pm EST

all of the bands are pretty awesome but after checking out all the myspaces i think itsp retty clear that the fancy claps are definetly the most underground…theres some problems with the recording stuff but i have yet to hear a new band come up with a song so basic, simple, and catchy while still making awesome music

Laurie | 12/13/2006, 8:21 pm EST

I think Bryan Scary and the Shreddine Tears have to be heard to be believed. Great stuff.

Anonymous | 12/13/2006, 8:21 pm EST

Bryan Scary and the shredding tears is the only thing worth listening to on Myspace. They are beyond comparison, brilliant and amazing. If you don’t like them, you are dumb.

cappsfork | 12/13/2006, 6:56 pm EST

The fancy claps are the best for sure!

Kara | 12/13/2006, 6:42 pm EST

After to listening to all the bands I really liked Bryan Scary. The songs aren’t gimmicky. They seem like the kind of songs you won’t get tired of listening to. I even bought the album.

Psychedelic Mike | 12/13/2006, 6:41 pm EST

Wow those Fancy Claps sure are awesome!

Phoenix | 12/13/2006, 5:23 pm EST

I like The Fancy Claps and Ultra Sonic Edukators.

sammy | 12/13/2006, 5:20 pm EST

edukators are all d-bags. i know cuz i’ve met em. aside from that- they write amazing pop music.

dear losty | 12/13/2006, 5:17 pm EST

the fact that you are getting so stirred up about it reveals that you care so much about the band “bryan scary”-which you are OBVIOUSLY affiliated with, that you are willing to fight and defend an innocent comments on a stupid message board. The Edukators must have you scared silly.

losty | 12/13/2006, 5:01 pm EST

it’s pretty obvious the Edukators asked every friend/ family member they know to write in and bash everyone else. Edukators song is OKAY (at best)… actually pretty boring and repetitive… but all the stupid posts from them (or their friends/family) make them seem like a bunch of stupid children… actually it makes me NOT like their music before I had heard it. I think the Bryan Scary stuff is the best of the bunch… very original and complex. Reminds me of ELO…

newsflash — ROLLING STONE RECOGNIZES BRYAN SCARY AND THE SHREDDING TEARS — lush, majestic production, classic melodies/vocal arrangements, instantly memorable lyrics, genuine vision. Brian Wilson, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Roy Wood, Frank Zappa, Peter Gabriel, Andy Partidge, Paul McCartney, and Ray Davies had a love child. His name is Bryan Scary. This new band will steer pop culture in a new direction (whether or not he wins this contest). VISIT MYSPACE.COM/BRYANSCARY and www.BRYANSCARY.COM.

Pedro | 12/13/2006, 4:05 pm EST

Holy Maccaroni!?! Where did this Bryan Scary guy come from? This is am amzingly innovative song. I’m stoked that they are from NY so I can see them pull this off live… so awesome.

Katie | 12/13/2006, 4:02 pm EST

the Ultra Sonic Edukators are better than every band in the world. AND they are better than anything anyone else can say from here on. I win. nope, sorry your commment sucks, I win.

glowstick | 12/13/2006, 3:37 pm EST

everyone is entitled to their opinion…they can think bryan scary sucks if they want to. personally, i don’t think they suck-but they aren’t all they are cracked up to be either. Ultra Sonic Edukators have catchier songs-does that make them better? not necessarily, but that gives me a right to like them more. people can like and dislike whatever they want-let people say bands suck-and let people say they are good. its all subjective. anyone who says otherwise is just a self-righteous snob-which is fine-but own up to it.

Derelikt | 12/13/2006, 3:14 pm EST

Someone who listens to a brand new band as unique as Bryan Scary and dismisses them outright them by saying they “suck hard,” is either doing so because they just want to draw attention to their home band, or because they have limited taste and imagination. I listen to TONS of new bands everyday, and it’s rare to come across anything with even a hint of potential. Get off it, people.

Trevor | 12/13/2006, 3:09 pm EST

Brian scary sucks hard. But the Fancy Claps are so sick!! See them in Concert if your in the toronto area.

Stacy | 12/13/2006, 2:26 pm EST

The Ultra Sonic Edukators rock the stones off Rolling Stones magazine. best band by far

If Scary doesn't win this | 12/13/2006, 2:10 pm EST

Then this contest is rigged. The Edukators track was pretty tight too. But Bryan Scary’s song, while a bit self-indulgent, is so full and beautiful. There’s nothing else I’d rather listen to on a long car ride than a full album of songs like that. Probably wouldn’t mind seeing that dude live, either

Will | 12/13/2006, 2:07 pm EST

With all of the stale rock in the music world today, it’s exciting to hear a band like Ultra Sonic Edukators do something fresh!

Ludwig Van | 12/13/2006, 2:02 pm EST

Remember that early nineties movie “Beethoven” with Charles Grodin?? About the big dog? And then they made a sequel called Beethoven’s 2nd!!! Great band. Reminds me of a mixture between Tom Hanks’ “Turner and Hooch” and James Belushi’s “K-9.”

lauren | 12/13/2006, 1:57 pm EST

It appears that An Pierle fans are trying to make a run late in the game….TOO LATE SUCKERS-Ultra Sonic Edukators and Bryan Scary already romped you out of the game!

EUGE | 12/13/2006, 1:54 pm EST

Edukators… AMAZING. next big thing. ever. if this band doesn’t blow you away, I don’t know what will.

Que | 12/13/2006, 1:51 pm EST

Is there anybody who can tell me why we didn’t hear anything earlier from An Pierlé, such a song! Very nice!!

RONALD | 12/13/2006, 1:51 pm EST

Yeah, except An Pierle is BORING. Edukators and Bryan Scary make intelligent music that is fun to listen to.

Music Man | 12/13/2006, 1:51 pm EST

I am literally floored right now! Bryan Scary’s Ceiling On the Wall just brought tears to my eyes. Intricate, gorgeous, intelligent. The perfect song!! Where did this guy come from? Kudos to the other bands for trying but this song is in a completely different league than the others Although, the Edukators song definitely has some spunk.

Fancy Claps is a cool name. so i think they are #1. But Edukators sound the best, even though the name sucks. They should trade names and then the Edukators music under the Fancy Claps name would be huge

Chuck M. | 12/13/2006, 12:59 pm EST

The Ultra Sonic Edukators. They combine aspects from so many different bands. Blur, supergrass, bowie, super furry, beach boys, gbv… i think most of the great bands have a handful of influences

jake berlin | 12/13/2006, 12:38 pm EST

bryan scary and the shredding tears are ABSURDLY good. honestly, the songs sound like long-lost beatles tracks, arranged and executed with expert precision and attention. the songs are daringly complex, and yet entirely accessible. without question, i could see this band developing a HUGE following. just terrific. i want more!

Bryan Scary and The Shredding Tears are amazing. Musical genius that is captures the best of the past and makes it all new again. Very, very special band!!!!!!!!!

critics suck, who cares!?! | 12/13/2006, 12:24 pm EST

Great pop music is great pop music. The Edukators and Bryan Scary are both great bands if you ask me. I think they will both have successful careers. Critics can be bought and usually have agendas, let the listners decide. They both rock my world!

Old & Bitter | 12/13/2006, 12:18 pm EST

Bryan Scary is AWESEOME! WOOHOO!

G Bat | 12/13/2006, 11:50 am EST

Hmm…

In response to The Critic’s Choice - I’m not sure the contest is necessarily about commercial viability. Seems like blowing up and playing stadiums is what makes a good band to you. You sound like one of those music “critics” who is actually a “suit” wearing thick glasses.

sfdude | 12/13/2006, 11:49 am EST

oh man those bryan scary tracks kick ass. the dude is a crazy genius.

Jeff Gill | 12/13/2006, 11:48 am EST

man, that bryan scary’s got one hell of a musical mind!!!

The REAL Critics choice | 12/13/2006, 11:48 am EST

These 5 bands all seem poised to have great careers. The Edukators have great energy and sound like a poor man’s SUPERGRASS. They have great potential but need to find their own sound. The most exciting, creative, and musically talented out of the 5 bands is definitely Bryan Scary. The Ceiling on the Wall is one of only 15 beautifully arranged songs on his Debut album. His ability to teleport the listener to anotehr dimension is what make his music so engaging. The fancy claps and Voom Blooms also have some promise as well. “Holly” is a good one for sure

Tom Green | 12/13/2006, 11:46 am EST

THE VOOM BLOOMS are amazing! Forget best band on myspace, more like best band full-stop! One word, two syllables…. Awsome!

Charlie | 12/13/2006, 11:45 am EST

An Pierlé & White Velvet should definitely go to the next round!

the Critic's Choice | 12/13/2006, 11:37 am EST

Ultra Sonik Edukators appear to have a developed sound and audience by checking out their myspace. I wouldn’t be surprised if they blow up and are playing stadiums within the next few years. Salle Green is good, but I like On Our Own and Leisure Lane better. This band just has a huge sound. The Voom Booms appear to be trying to sound like the Killers, and Bryan Scary, while musically candid, sounds a bit contrived-and definately doesn’t sound like it could reach the masses-even in Europe, they’d need a radio song. The Fancy Claps would probably be my second favorite. They and the Ultra Sonik don’t sound like they are trying too hard. But Rolling Stone critics are going to pamper the Edukators, and rightly so.

Its funny how all of these posts are probably from friends of the bands. I don’t know any of them personally. My favs are the Voom Blooms and the Ultra Sonic Eduktors.

The Blooms - Flying the flag for good old blighty :D
Quite obviously the best band on a rather strong shortlist. Thoughts of Rena is a tune!
We love The VBs x

Being a Loughborough girl, obviously i looooooove ‘The Voom Blooms’. They are such a great band. Not only are the brilliant musicians with genius lyrics, they are totally hot too!

The Grubby 1 | 12/13/2006, 9:51 am EST

Hey, thanks everyone who commented on the Fancy Claps….all like….4 of you or something….just a side point, though it doesn’t count for much, “Holly” was recorded in a basement in North York, Ontario using Acoustica. It was never mastered or anything, it was completed mostly in one day and the bass was added like a week or two later. Thanks rollingstone for supported the most indie of all indie rock.

I love days off! It meant i had time to check them all out, but the one band that really grabbed my attention where The Voom Blooms, that opening guitar line has just stuck with me all day long, they just seem to have a really nice sound that edged out the rest for me, the fancy claps where nice too though.

ultra sonic edukators are amazing. i have seen them live twice and not a day goes by that i don’t listen to the album. if you pass up a chance to see these guys, you are an idiot. their gratitude towards their fans is as amazing as their music. these guys will be big.

The Fancy Claps are nice, but BRYAN SCARY is the most exciting thing to happen to rock music in years!!! His songs take you to another place, especially live when his theatrical bent is in full tilt and the entire stage is transformed into Scaryville! Beautiful beautiful beautiful stuff!!!

[Silly Name] | 12/13/2006, 9:14 am EST

[My Friend’s Band] is the best band on this list!!!!

Emily Riot | 12/13/2006, 9:12 am EST

The Voom Blooms are the most amazing band that have come out of the world since ummm sliced bread.

They should be respected by all.

Bryan Scary and The Shredding Tears are so fresh and exciting-concert pop, but cerebral. All ages get hooked-old Beatle fans, new indie rockers. Something for everyone. This band is going places.
