Lunchtime Poll: We Wrote “God Only Knows,” How Bad Can We Be?

12/12/06, 11:10 am EST

Beach Boys

You’ve been appointed to lead a bi-partisan group of cultural diplomats. Your first mission is to organize a summit of Iranian, Syrian and Iraqi insurgent leaders. At this sit-down you must play one song or album that convinces them we aren’t that bad. What song do you choose to play and why?

I’m really surprised no one mentioned that song “Why Can’t We Be Friends” by War

It’s cheesy but i’m going with Lennon’s Imagine album. Because in the beginning it advocates peace on earth and an ideological dream of everyone else abandoning their ideologies. After that it’s a very angry record that shits on McCartney, and in the midst of frustration asks the world for some honesty… that’s exactly how i feel right now.

Gotta be “Joy to the World” by Three Dog Night. Or lull them into a comfy nap with “Homeless” by Paul Simon and Ladysmith Black Mambazo and then crack some skulls before they know whats going on. WHAMMO!!

Ash | 12/12/2006, 9:25 pm EST

To people suggesting “Imagine”, why would we want to show the Iranians how great we are by playing a British album?

Arty Rivers Cohen | 12/13/2006, 2:55 am EST

This is a no-brainer. ”Isn’t She Lovely”[from ''Songs In The Key Of Life''] by Stevie Wonder could show the Iranians why they would ultimately lose the battle. Women are not slaves. They are lovely ”made from love”. This is not 1861-1865, yet this will be the war to free women when it comes. I’d love to ram this genius tune down their throats.

Jack | 12/13/2006, 3:30 am EST

On a serious note, I can only think of one.

“What’s Going On?”-Marvin Gaye

Martin | 12/13/2006, 7:17 am EST

“Smack My Bitch Up” by Prodigy. That oughta appeal to a country of women-haters still living in the Dark Ages.

Non American | 12/13/2006, 10:16 am EST

I’d agree with the guy who said RS should stick to the music.Stop talkin’ politics. Let’s face it;Your country sucks. You’ve been told before by another non-american that the only thing we love about your fucking country is your music and movies. That’s all.Jagger said it best about your goverment; Goliath’s Paranoia. ‘Nuff said

If our country sucks so much how come we have a million trying to get in everyday? I never hear about any other country’s illegal immigration problem. America owns up, and other people hate the fact we know it.

Hmmm how bout the music video for Beck’s Sexx Laws? Heh heh, that would get them riled up, especially if we put Paris Hilton in the room with them to really up the ante…but seriously, why don’t they just combine Iraq and Iran and call it Irate?
