Gwen Stefani Plans To Pack Lunch, Retire, Rare Velvet Record Still Rare, Still For Sale? And More

  • Gwen Stefani continues to pretend she’s going to choose family over career down the line. The singer, who just released her second solo album (a record she swears she thought she’d never make) apparently says that in five years – when her son Kingston is in school – she may retire. We think we all know what that shit is.
  • The dude who supposedly purchased a much-discussed rare Velvet Underground record from a vinyl-finding Canadian is possibly not for real. Some reports claim that the buyer known as mechadaddy was duped into purchasing the record by his friend logged onto his account and bid for him, but that he can “barely afford gas for [his] car.” [via BrooklynVegan]
  • Meanwhile, the ring Elvis Presley wore to marry Priscilla is reportedly going up for auction (at an actual auction house) and is expected to fetch about as much as the VU guy thought he got for his rare record. Rock auction related irony clearly knows no bounds.
  • Rappers: Stop traveling with assault rifles, truncheons, and ten-inch blades. Busta Rhymes is substantially closer to going to jail for assault and harassment charges now that there’s a weapon charge to go with them. He allegedly beat the shit out of some fan who spat on his car back in August, and police found a giant knife when they searched his SUV.
  • Diana’s boys – Prince Harry and Prince William – are organizing a concert to honor the tenth anniversary of their late mother’s death, held on what would have been her 46th birthday (July 1st) at Wembley Stadium in London. Sir Elton John, Duran Duran, Joss Stone, Bryan Ferry, and Pharrell Williams will apparently perform. Everyone will cry.
  • The holidays always remind us of sticky drug-and-booze-fueled southern rock festivals. Now is a great time to start planning for Bonnaroo 2007, which will be held June 14 – 17th.
  • Foxy Brown has apparently not been behaving while on probation. She hasn’t yet moved on to accosting innocent facialists or dental hygienists but she has apparently not been meeting with her parole officer or submitting to court-mandated drug tests. Now she’s back in court.

NO! SHE CAN’T! I won’t let her!

Plus…in all honesty. I don’t see that happening.

Truth be told... | 12/12/2006, 11:01 am EST

Hey, since it is painfully obvious that the suits over at RS don’t read this crap… and lord knows don’t read our comments — anyone want to start a letter-writting campaign to get this god-awful blog removed from the site?

And I’m not against blogging — the idea of a blog on here is fine… but ye who not be named again since it’s becoming obnoxious to even read her name could certainly be replaced by someone both competent in music and not nearly as indolent, smarmy, generally-unfunny and plainly idiotic in her editorializing.

I mean this thing is supposed to be the “Rock and Roll Daily: [My] non-stop music news source,” right? Well, lady — I don’t watch or listen to O’Reilly and I come to the web to get my news unfiltered (let alone filtered as badly as this). Here’s a thought — keep you rank opinions out of your reporting and let us, your humble commentors, make with the editorializing.

Cripes.

You people really are whiny jackasses! If you have such a problem with Goodman, don’t click on the link! It’s very simple! You know what it is, you (supposedly) know you don’t like it, yet you still read it. The more hits it gets, the more unlikely it is that she’s not going anywhere.

And who gives a shit anyway? It’s a blog on a website. Big fuckin’ deal.

WINGMAN | 12/13/2006, 12:41 am EST

Gwen Stefani stinks. She’s lousy. What’s she going to do when she runs out of second-rate songs from old movies to rip off? You suck eggs Gwen! I hope you get old, fat, and perpetually pregnant. I was unfortunate enough to see you on some apparently god-forsaken TV show. You act like you’re not ashamed at all to sing embarassingly stupid and meaningless lyrics. This leads me to believe that you are totally shallow and superficial. Why don’t you give your albums titles that reflect what they really mean to you. How about “My Vacation Villa on the Amalfi Coast,” or “Twenty Thousand Spa Treatments for Me and My Posse,” or “Down Payment on My Tacky Whore Wardrobe.” You must be totally brainless. What’s really sad is that people actually spend money to buy your music, and go watch you perform. Just remember Right Said Fred and a million others like them. People may rush in droves to buy worthless crap, but it doesn’t last. Your days are numbered, Airhead!

what is up with “WINGMAN” , chill man, gwen stefani is not that bad. i think ur from the generation before gen-x. or the beginning of gen-x. anyway im gen-y, we get gwen , we get her music , ur time has come & gone next generation is taking over. i think hip-hop will be more widely accepted. gwen will probably down in history as the premiere pop artist of our generation. i just did the jack spirral way of getting music and her new music is not bad. my highlight of the disc, “breakin up”. if u got worty speakers with alot of bass, throw this on, perfect.

K-Dog | 12/14/2006, 6:40 pm EST

I can’t wait!!! I wish it was last year, she should stick to selling the ugly clothes that manage to look good only on her

K-Dog | 12/14/2006, 6:48 pm EST

xxplosive: if u are the typical gen-y, then the world is f-ed… Gwen sucks. not that she doesn’t have talent somewhere, as in she’s good at exploiting people for monetary gain… hip hop more widely accepted ’cause gen-y gets her music? duh its been more than widely accepted since the 1980’s and it sure as hell is not what Gwen does… she is beating a dead horse and mocking hip hop not lifting it up, go rent New Jack City or something and figure out the roots of the sound
