How to Honor Lennon, B-52’s Get Back in the Game, Even Fake Sean John Is Ugly

12/8/06, 2:55 pm EST

John Lennon

  • Twenty-six years ago today John Lennon was shot to death outside his apartment building in New York City. Yoko Ono has reportedly commented via a newspaper ad, asking that those who wish to honor Lennon “make December 8 the day to ask for forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable.”
  • In April Bob Dylan will play his first British shows since the release of Modern Times. We will be jealous and wait patiently for him to come home.
  • The Roots will reportedly be playing a series of US dates this winter, with Lupe Fiasco (who has also recently announced a tour) and Jill Scott opening for a few dates. We guess Lupe Fiasco is officially hot, as he’s being mentored by the old guard.
  • Those who missed Trent Reznor’s beefed up Goth-Rambo look on tour this year will soon be able to amend this problem. NIN will release a 2006-tour-documenting live DVD on February 27th. Not convinced you care? Check out the trailer.
  • Andre 3000 is set to collaborate with Will Ferrell on an upcoming film, Semi-Pro, about an American basketball team in the 1970s. In a total stretch, Andre reportedly plays “a self styled ladies’ man who is the best player on the team.”
  • Diddy wants to make sure you’re wearing a 100 percent authentic (if ugly) Sean John sweatshirt. The rapper has reportedly launched an anti-counterfeit-clothing campaign in Canada, where lots of evil humans sell millions of dollars a year in fake Sean John Canada clothes. The campaign slogan? “Don’t Buy a Lie.” This is a serious issue people.
  • The B-52’s are recording a new as-of-yet-untitled album with New Order producer Steve Osbourne, Uncut reports. How will it sound? Like “Rock’n'Roll-Glam-Electro-Soul,” according to the band. The record also has a mystery theme, which according to guitarist Keith Strickland, can not yet be revealed. “About halfway through these sessions we noticed a theme developing,” he wrote on the band’s site. “However, I don’t want to spoil the experience. You’ve got to hear it to believe it.” Consider us baited. Are you? Tell us, below.

How do you HONOR John Lennon’s Death?
How about honoring his LIFE?
What do you want us to mail Mark David Chapman thank you cards or something?
The fact that the world was robbed of so much talent, and his family was robbed of living out their natural lives with him still pisses me off.
I am now 40 the age he was when he was killed… while 40 isnt exactly a teenager it’s pretty damn young.

Elizabeth Goodman isn’t a person, it’s a pop culture robot dressed up to look like a hip blogger.

Banjo | 12/8/2006, 3:23 pm EST

You’re not actually honouring his death, you’re honouring the person. chill out. and Fran, switch to decaf or something will ya?
I’m wearing my sgt. pepper’s shirt to work today at the National Library of Canada in Ottawa. i’ll go home tonight and listen to some beatles/lennon, watch the toronto raptors beat whoever they’re playing and drink. that’s how i’ll honour John.

The B-52’s are a great band and deserve to still be relevant, no doubt! Love ‘em.
I was in my twenties when John was killed and I remember the day like is was yesterday. Part of my heart went with him.

26 years? How is that a hallmark?

RS is filled with sentiment crap. Must we rehash his death and write about it over and over?

Lennon’s songs and poetry are well documented and we’re all aware of his lifes work as an activist.

RS drags it through the mud ever few years or so. Is nothing sacred?

The best way to honor John Lennon is simple.

Just play his wonderful music all day long!

So as it turns out I will be going to see Sean Lennon in Minneapolis on Monday night. Haven’t had the pleasure to see him live yet, and I was wondering if anyone could provide some insight into what his shows are like. Apparently Jim Noir will be a special guest. Any help?

“Ask forgiveness from those who suffered the insufferable?” All I can say to Yoko is “Here we go loop-de-loop.” What a weirdo. She needs to stop being a professional widow.

I come from Poland and here in my country in local radio stations John Lennon’s music was playing almoust all day… ..” You may say I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one…”

jill hives | 12/8/2006, 4:27 pm EST

john lennon wrote great pop songs – great pop songs are fun to drink to but don’t mean shit when it comes to stopping folks dying in places like sudan and iraq, regardless of their ‘deep message.’ and since his death, lennon’s only become a leading example of ethnocentric iconography as perpetuated by corporate media outlets like rolling stone. beyond sad.

Who said anything about honoring his death? Where did you read that?

nurserock1 | 12/8/2006, 4:39 pm EST

We should honor his birth day…and if you feel it necessary be pissed on the day of his passing…like I am…I’m still asking WHY?

AdmitI | 12/8/2006, 5:24 pm EST

I was 10 yrs old when John was killed. He was my hero…still is! There will never be anyone else like him. A true modern day Jesus……

fab4fan | 12/8/2006, 5:57 pm EST

I was only 15 and a half when John was killed by the still lunatic and I had already been a huge Beatles fan since I was 9! He and Paul were as Elton John,Brian Wilson, and classical composer Leonard Bernstein and so may others have said, were the two greatest song composers (and great singers too and John had such a unique beautiful voice!) of the 20th century.

One other note re: John Lennon 80s. The “go between” was Elliott Mintz. July Dalwitz, using the name July Ivy, “training to be a teacher of transcendental meditation” is the “set up.” They never let you leave. They like to settle real old scores. If you had any idea what really happened in the 60s/70s/80s etc, you’d, I wonder what?
Turn into a radical revolutionary and forget these reactionaries?
What are they against?
Seems Catholicism was the “main target” and etc etc. Bhagawan Soaham? How so? July Ivy?

www.heatherjeane.com | 12/8/2006, 9:17 pm EST

Further it was supposedly an IRA “hit” where the same people and organisation since 1972, blew up Lord Mountbatten too. You know? this woman called July Ivy. See the pop single, July Anne, with the one sail, sail thing as the logo.
Sorry, I can’t help you.

Unless that Yukon Ono quote is taken out of context I’d say she has written the joke for us…

Concerning the B52’s, saw them
@ Foxwoods casino in Conn. and they
are very much alive, they have some
wild new songs, still have much
to share with the current culture,
not sure if radio will give them
a break, music is so pathetic in
this country but who knows. We all
get older but not to many of us can still throw a party with a beat and kick up a nice jam session, and they make you feel
good, the B52’s are on their way back, looking forward to this
new cd and seeing where it takes them! They sure sounded great at
FOXWOODS. Favorite new songs, Juliet of the spirit, PuMp!, Funplex, Ultarviolet, Hot corner, great remixed funky Mesopatamia stared the show
to name some the new ones & older chestnuts, they
are currently playing out on the road here in the states and over in europe(doing some festivals and favorite cities, check em out, they still got it.
