Ron Wood Makes Faces Reunion Seem Simultaneously More And Less Likely

12/6/06, 6:11 pm EST

Ron Wood Rod Stewart

So, yeah. Maybe that vaguely rumored Faces reunion isn’t so likely to happen after all. Ron Wood has spoken out against his former bandmate Rod Stewart, saying: “With all the years he has been stranded away from that group thing, he’s been Hollywood-ified.” Was it the frosted highlights that turned him off?

Still, Wood’s comments also betray a certain sense of longing for his old friend and musical collaborator. “He’s got all this attention and all these poofs around him. He’s lost the earthiness I know he still has inside,” Wood reportedly lamented.

What would it take to restore Rod Stewart’s lost earthiness?

Rock is DEAD......... | 12/6/2006, 6:23 pm EST

Ron Wood is “dead on”, Rod Stewart has become Yanni…………WTF? It’s a shame too, because allot of the Faces and Jeff Beck stuff is awesome.

Who wants to hear another album of lame covers and tour at $125 a ticket?

The article in this weeks print version of RS made him sound like a big poofster.

He could start by singing rock songs like he used to. Getting rid of the belly would be a huge step as well. I can’t believe what a turd Rod has turned into. The Faces used to kick ass.

What he says is true. When i hear Rod Stewart’s name I wanna puke.

John Lennon commenting on the music of a popular British band once said: “I like the butch stuff and I don’t like the faggy stuff.”

Years later, the lead singer of this popular group responded to Lennon in an interview by saying “But I don’t think the R_____g S____s are only a rock band. They can be other things. They can be very feminine.”

Bollocks Sticky Stone Fingers!! Why not focus your greasy bar-stool social ethnography on tax-abating island dwellers like yourself!! Hollywood Hating Bastard!! A gin-sotted, gulfstream flying, ryhthm guitar player with a face like a catcher’s mitt shouldn’t fuck with Thorstein Veblen.

Two of the GREATEST ROCK GUITAR SOLOS in the last thirty years. RON WOOD on’You Can’t Always Get What you Want’ from the live Stones album “Love You Live- circa 1977-78.
Amazing grace/Stay with me – Ron WOOD ‘Slide on this- Live’.

Ron Wood must also have the patience of a saint. I believe History will be extremely kind to him and all his work. I didn’t see the current Stones tour but I always look forward to hearing this mans live playing. They don’t make outlaws like they used to anymore… Hope he wins the battle of the bottle in whatever way you count a victory?

Ellen or Rigby | 12/7/2006, 2:13 am EST

less poofs?

Don | 12/7/2006, 4:09 am EST

Look out Slipknot!

Some of us *ahem* are old enough to remember Faces and know what great music they made and the influence it had back in the day. Getting together again, on a collaborative level, would be good for both of them. It’s symbiotic. The time is right. Leave your egos at the door and create.

How about trying one concert in Las Vegas?

united poofs | 12/7/2006, 7:43 am EST

As long as Rod thinks he is Tony Bennett, there is no hope for him. Besides, why would Ron want to go down to the minor league??

jungleland | 12/7/2006, 8:00 am EST

Faces – Ronnie Lane = Rod Stewart Unplugged….OK, but not majestic.

I’d prefer a Jeff Beck Group reunion (Beck, Rod, Ron Wood + Mick Waller)

The Faces are better left as history. Even their mid 70’s reunion was crap.

Go find “Ooh-la-la” and “Nod’s as Good as a Wink” and see why they are one of the great bands of all time.

MegaSudz | 12/7/2006, 11:34 am EST

Love the Faces, but I think that boat sailed a long time ago. Ronnie has been a Rolling Stone longer than a member of Faces. Rod has been a rocker, popster, disco duck, and lately lounge lizzard. Best let the legend be.

ken vail jr. | 12/7/2006, 11:38 am EST

a reunion is pointless at this point in time…it’d be fun, i guess, but yes-let the legend be i’d say.

Bob | 12/7/2006, 12:22 pm EST

Ron Wood is correct from a musical purist standpoint (which I agree with personally), but you can’t blame Rod for taking a career opportunity when it came. Who would have thought when he was wearing leopard spandex that he’d become this successful crooner?

That said, there is no real Faces “reunion” without Ronnie Lane. Though I would love to see Rod, Ronnie, Kenney, and Ian (who lives here in Texas) get together for some shows.

facncypants | 12/7/2006, 12:26 pm EST

I’m sure they could both use the money.

Rod kind of pisses me off with his “Hollywood, south of France I’m so epic vibe.” You are not that big of a deal. You can sing, we should leave it at that.

I always liked Ron though. He was kind of the under dog in the Stones. I can see Mick and Keith playing pickle in the middle with Ron always in the middle and Charlie Watts sipping tea laughing with his old man sweater on.

Jacob | 12/7/2006, 12:56 pm EST

the faces rocked, though…..for seriously. too bad rod stewart is a dame now.

steveo | 12/7/2006, 12:58 pm EST

maybe they can call the tour the Face Lifts? sure to get the 50 somethings out there for the shows…:)

theworldsforgottenboy | 12/7/2006, 1:37 pm EST

Stewart hasn’t had a good album since ” Night on the Town”…. Wood is the worst guitarist the Stones ( who themselves have completely sucked since Tattoo You ) have had.. The Faces without Ronnie Lane will be hollow.. I will just keep listening to the Faces box set and avoid this trainwreck if it does manage to happen

David | 12/7/2006, 2:04 pm EST

If this thing does come together, does that mean that Mick Taylor could re-unite with the Stones?

Zachra | 12/7/2006, 2:20 pm EST

The second quote sounds like Ronnie is ripping off Luke Skywalker’s dialogue about his longing for Vader in Return of the Jedi.

MJ | 12/7/2006, 2:33 pm EST

Rod is the biggest waste of talent in rock and roll, but what’s Ron bitching for? He’s in the Stones (and lets face it, he was BORN to be in the Stones) and when’s the last time those guys really mattered? Some Girls? ‘Cause anything on Tattoo You that was any good came from the Some Girls sessions.

michael scott | 12/7/2006, 2:52 pm EST

faces died when ronnie lane died

michael scott | 12/7/2006, 2:53 pm EST

the faces died when ronnie lane died sorry

Bobby | 12/7/2006, 4:06 pm EST

At least with the Faces, Ron Wood is the guitar guy. Mick and Keith didn’t even make him an “official” memberof the Stones until the Steel Wheels tour when Charlie and Bill demanded it. Stingy bastards…

Tim Grant | 12/7/2006, 5:36 pm EST

Ron may be a stone, but in my opinion, he gave up his guitar god status by joining them. In the Faces he was a guitar master. One of the best slide players in rock. I recently saw a Faces gig on VH1 and it was a great reminder of how great they were. Also the Faces box set is an excellent reminder of thier greatness.

STRATCAT | 12/7/2006, 6:36 pm EST

Rod first needs a kick in the jimmy then he needs to be locked in a room with Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf playing 24/7 then he should be given a jug of Jack and chug a lug then maybe the hollywood plastic vibe will come off….
Cheers to all the midnight maniacs and if Carmen Electra wants to “Stay with me” i guarantee you that i won’t send her off with “My best cologne” in the morning.

How did Bob Dylan, and the great Bands he’s had for many years now, turn into what the Rolling Stones were supposed to turn into? I Just Heard “Thunder Mountain” from his new record …great! The Stones and Dylan seemed still locked in a battle for some kind of alltime greatest live show. I’ve seen both, and while obviously different, both just have “it”. Dylan’s decision to use these great bands in the studio is paying of in spades. Perhaps The “Henry Kissinger Of Rock’n Roll” can orchestrate the show everyone would very interested in…

I’d like to buy a vowel…

PjMacD | 12/7/2006, 10:33 pm EST

WAit! i’ve figured it out. That’s the name of the snake oil and caviar face cream I’ve been hearing so much about… NO?

Dalton | 12/8/2006, 1:10 pm EST

Very slightly off topic, “A Bigger Bang” was a damn good piece of work from the Stones. Too bad they didn’t put it out a few years earlier when it would have mattered!

And The Faces can tour without Ronnie Lane. If Pete Townsend found out Roger Daltrey was in a fatal accident, Townsend would glue his arm to a Manequinn and continue to tour under the name “The Who.” Nothing is sacred when it comes to rock gods and money!

a couple shots of somethin’ strong should do the trick…
