Thom Yorke Wears Maroon Pants, Fall Out Boy Want You To Want Them, Scott Weiland Founds Own Label

12/5/06, 3:19 pm EST

Thom Yorke

  • Radiohead have posted a series of charming photos (like this one) of the band hanging out in the studio while working on their new album. Go to their site, check out the cute pics, but don’t read any text or you’ll feel instantly shitty about the state of the earth.
  • Number One Best Reason To Form Label Of Your Own If You’re Scott Weiland: You will have a home for your inevitable solo album. Weiland’s new label “Softdrive Records” will put out albums by The Actual, Tommy Joe Wilson, and Mr. Weiland himself, beginning early next year.
  • Fall Out Boy want you to make sure your parents know a ticket to one of their winter shows is on your “holiday wish list.” Get on that.
  • We’re getting the distinct sense that it’s auction season. Every day someone is buying some new, absurdly expensive pop-cultural artifact such as Paul McCartney’s handwritten lyrics for “Maxwell’s Silver Hammer” ($192,000) and one of Jimi Hendrix’s guitars — a 1968 Fender Stratocaster originally housed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland ($168,000). Meanwhile, some pathologically obsessed Audrey Hepburn fan reportedly just paid £467,000 at a London-based auction for the infamous Givenchy little black dress the actress wore in Breakfast At Tiffany’s. What’s wrong/right with these people?
  • An L.A. Superior Court Judge overseeing the latest Michael-touched-my-child suit recently tossed out the following charges against the singer: molestation, plagiarism, conversion, breach of contract, accounting fraud, negligence, civil conspiracy, and unfair business practices. Still on the table? Assault, battery, willful misconduct, false imprisonment and sexual battery.
  • Was Frank Black feeling the Christmas in July vibe on last summer’s tour? Apparently the Pixies frontman decided it’s time he contribute to the Christmas pop music canon with Christmass — a collection of live tunes recorded this summer plus a few tracks … not recorded live this summer.

Please everyone, do your part , eat more babies

MONA | 12/8/2006, 6:27 pm EST

Cody, i think i love you…your eloquence and opinion were expressed with great beauty, much like Radiohead themselves.

Misterpress | 12/8/2006, 2:46 pm EST

Radiohead’s The Bends is a universal treasure. Everyone should give it a go.

Cody | 12/8/2006, 3:21 am EST

Radiohead is the only band I have been able to consistently listen to for the last two years. It’s hard to explain why, but the music sounds very “objective and concrete”… I don’t know if that makes sense, but that’s the kind of person I am, and for some reason their music works with me. Their music is one of the most important things in my life, which seems absurd, but its true. They’re a great inspiration.

RushFan | 12/6/2006, 3:22 pm EST

Hey Phil, you could argue that Vanilla Ice made the music that was in his head, too. Does that make him as good as Radiohead? It should, based on that logic. But…thanks for trying to explain it to me anyway. I do appreciate it.

Kev | 12/6/2006, 2:45 pm EST

Thanx thm, maybe if that happens I will be spared more guitar, screech and whine.

Who wants to get the logarithim tables out to enjoy rock n roll.
The Bends, some of Pablo and OK are great, the last 3 ugh.

Phil | 12/6/2006, 2:17 pm EST

I think what’s great about Radiohead is they do not care one bit what will sell or what won’t. they just make the music that’s in their heads. who knows if they pull it off because people “say” they’re great or if people “say” they’re great because they pull it off. either way, they pull “it” off everytime. Spend a week with Kid A and you’ll know what the fans mean.

RushFan | 12/6/2006, 1:03 pm EST

Ok, you say The Bends is one of the greatest albums of all time, but that still doesn’t tell me anything.

Jacob | 12/6/2006, 12:45 pm EST

the bends is one of the greatest albums of all time. everyone should own it…..and love it.

Jack D | 12/6/2006, 11:45 am EST

Watch my balls, please.

Banjo | 12/6/2006, 11:24 am EST

I’m looking forward to the new radiohead…as long as it keeps Thom Yorke from making another solo album. It wasn’t bad, but honestly, he was on auto-pilot. it’s like he took the music from amnesiac and left out all the good parts. boooring

RushFan | 12/6/2006, 9:26 am EST

What is so great about Radiohead? I don’t get it…

trigganometry30 | 12/6/2006, 8:54 am EST

Prediction…

Radiohead, new album, album of the year for 2007!

By the way, Thom Yorke, The Eraser is so sweet!

radioheadinjury | 12/6/2006, 2:46 am EST

ok computer was their best. Kid a was interesting but seemed devoid of good ideas after a bit. Same with amnesiac- thought-stimulating directions but not enough follow through. Hail to the Thief- better, a bit more meat to chew on. I hope the latest is a return to form…

thm | 12/6/2006, 2:14 am EST

kev
you are an asshole
hope you die before the
record is released.

since when did you decide people who use the word “pretentious” have zero credability?

mighty pretentious of you, don’t you think?

Kev | 12/5/2006, 9:03 pm EST

Radiohead, please be more aesthetically pleasing to the ear than the last 3 albums of noise please.

Revisit ‘The Bends’ era.

Jake | 12/5/2006, 7:46 pm EST

Anyone who uses the word “pretentious” nowadays automatically has zero credibility.

Brian | 12/5/2006, 7:32 pm EST

Radiohead is the best alternative rock band today and with every album they deliver the expected apex of their musical “muscle” of the time. No other band has as large of a following as Radiohead and their unique sound and outstanding performance are the reasons why they are the best alternative band today. Radiohead deserve their status and they are in no way pretentious. They got where they are due to the fact that they put on amazing live performances and create flawless albums nonstop.

That’s right kids, get your mommy and daddy to buy our tickets, we are fall out boy and cannot buy a coke without your teenage dollars to keep us going. God knows we cannot stand on creativity.

Kate | 12/5/2006, 6:18 pm EST

New Radiohead songs Down is the New Up and Videotape are available at iTunes.

Thom Yorke played them solo on piano for a Nigel Godrich internet broadcast type of thing and the’re pretty awesome.

And cheers for the pictures. Their recording locations have seemed quite cool.

Dizzler | 12/5/2006, 4:36 pm EST

Wow! Ever have deja vu?
