You know how reading off cue cards can really stimulate unnerving emotions? Well, Jessica Simpson was apparently a victim of such circumstances the other night when she attempted to perform “Nine to Five” at the Kennedy Center in honor of Dolly Parton. According to reports, Simpson “relied heavily” on cue cards, and became flustered when she missed a line, finally ending the song by shamefully murmuring, “Dolly, you make me so nervous. I can’t even sing the words right” and running offstage. Simpson has since been allowed to re-film her performance, so that a completely error-free version can be broadcast on CBS on December 26th. When Simpson re-sang the song Parton was reportedly backstage and hugged the pop star afterwards.
Anyone in their right mind would have requested a re-taping, but did Dolly have to HUG her? We are officially jealous, and we’ll bet that from somewhere within that surgically sculpted facade, little Ashlee Simpson is too. After all, when she fucked up on national television, she only had Jude Law to comfort her.
