Jethro Tull Frontman/Flutist Advises Kitten Owners, Curry Eaters

11/30/06, 10:56 am EST

Ian Anderson

There is certainly someone out there who longs to be advised by Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson. Now is a very good time for this person. Anderson is busy sharing his wisdom on a wide array of topics that include caring for abandoned kittens and the joys of Indian cuisine. No, seriously.

If you are a “curry novice waiting to get hooked” you’ve found the rockstar for you. “From New York to Brisbane, the robust delights of the Indian food revolution are now to be sampled and savoured,” Anderson writes. “But if you are a novice in the ordering stakes and the roulette wheel of gastric disorder threatens, what to ask for?” Check out those verbal fireworks. Hot. Shit.

So what’s up with the kitten thing? Apparently Anderson is concerned about the plethora of attempted kitten-rearing the holiday season may inspire. So to help educate the public about proper feline care, he’s put together a handy collection of “advisory material” that would really work best in the pamphlet form, but instead can be read online. Honestly, his letter to potential kitty owners is really sweet. “If you have any problems or questions regarding your new kitten settling in, don’t hesitate to call Ian or Shona Anderson …, in fact, please call us anyway” he writes. “Having been temporary mum and dad to these little guys …, we – like any proud ex-guardians – would like to know how they are getting on in their new homes.”

What topics should Ian Anderson to take on next?

He likes cats and curry, whats wrong with that? This one of the most talented music artist ever, whats with the needles gossip? Ian is eccentric, why is that a bad thing? It is what makes him great. And it is what makes him different from all the other stereo type rock stars you people whored to.

It just shows how multi dimensional and deep some of our rock idols really are. We get used to seeing the guy on stage as nothing other than what he appears to be. What a pleasant surprise! Seems like an article more suited to People magazine than RS though.

My fervent wish is that music could be reduced to sport and that ANY era of Jethro Tull, not just their ALLEGED heyday of 1971-74 could be placed in single combat against ANY of the acts that RS has asskissed throughout Tulls 40 yr career. So sorry his Lairdship had the temerity to choose wildcat conservation and curries over cocaine and hotel room destruction.

Hey RS—Tull have a new album out; it’s called “Aqualung”.

Get back to what you do best…I’m not sure what that is, though…

If he likes cats, if he is crazy, insane, if is true or not or just publicity, So What! he has given the world some of the greatest moments of well composed, educated, fine, sophisticated still simple and beautiful Progressive Rock Music Ever. He can be as crazy or as insane as he desires and still will be “Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull” for all of us.

curried wha? | 12/3/2006, 12:33 am EST

When I read the headline for this item, I thought Mr. Anderson was warning us about restaurants serving curried kitten. I was relieved to learn otherwise. Ian Anderson is not insane! JT totally rocked!

Once again the Rolling Stone is right on top of things, only 4 years after the above were posted on the sight, you have discovered them. I wanna let you in on a great tool for tools like you, don’t tell anyone, Google, you could have found this months ago. So what were you doing on the site anyways?

eikonktizo.com | 12/1/2006, 1:16 am EST

ian has been into cats - particularly odd and rare makes of the species - for decades (just look at the lyrics). if he happens to like cats and curry, so what? i can’t see as how it’s any more vapid than the BS the average rock star/actor/celebrity pumps out… at least ian continues to be earnest and active, no matter what anyone thinks.

That’s the beauty of the Internet, it levels the shit-talking playing field so that nobodies (me) can complain about the drivel that people who work at Rolling Stone (Ms. Goodman) are writing complaining about the drivel that rock stars are writing.

who are you? | 11/30/2006, 11:19 am EST

I was fortunate enough to see the TULL back in the day…….Ian was an awesome front man with crazy flute playing skills. Unfortunately now he appears to be insane. Here kitty,kitty………..?
