Dylan Invites Ricky Gervais To Join Him in Incomprehensible Genius Moment

11/28/06, 5:45 pm EST

Dylan Ricky Gervais

Ricky Gervais is the latest incredibly random famous person invited to appear on Bob Dylan’s weekly XM radio show Theme Time Radio Hour With Your Host Bob Dylan. When we found out that Dylan had extended this invite, we spent several hours imagining him in front of a TV watching The Office. Do you think he owns all the seasons? Or does Dylan rent the discs on Netflix? Does Bob Dylan have a fucking Netflix account?

Anyway, Bob has spent forty-some years giving interviews, but maybe he’s not as adept at being the asker as he is at being the askee. Perhaps he needs our help. Dylan could ask Gervais what it was like to write and star in his own episode of The Simpsons. Or they could discuss London’s best drinking establishments, or the weather, or Bob Dylan’s potential guest appearance on Extras. Or something. Putting potential words into Bob Dylan’s mouth is making us sweat.

What would you have Bob ask Ricky, and who else would you like to see make a guest appearance on the show?

I think Oprah should go on his show.
Or Howard Stern.

I’m sure gervais can handle it, he’s done a great radio show for years on xfm and then on podcasts.

some guy | 11/28/2006, 8:18 pm EST

I’d ask him if he has any thoughts on how dumb this rock daily site is.

trapper john | 11/28/2006, 10:10 pm EST

hmm, how about some word association games?

or maybe it could just be the two of them sitting around playing Boggle.

I’d listen to that

I’m just brainstorming here.

Bill | 11/29/2006, 5:13 am EST

He could get brave and invite Joan Baez.

Ann | 11/29/2006, 7:05 am EST

How about an ordinary fan…one of us…me???? Thing is, we would all be struck dumb, which would not make good listening!

Mike | 11/29/2006, 7:05 am EST

he should invite Donovan, be quite a reunion

Galway Jokerman | 11/29/2006, 9:24 am EST

I think he should invite his ol’ buddy, Liam Clancy

Amy | 11/29/2006, 11:47 am EST

Maybe Gervais will offer a cover of one of Bob’s songs. Imagine David Brent’s interpretation of “Lay Lady Lay” HAHAHAHAHAA!!!!

dufferdog64 | 11/29/2006, 4:40 pm EST

Bob should have an on-air seance w/ the ghosts of Jimi, Jerry, Richard Manuel, Rick Danko and JC (Cash).

Deenyc | 11/29/2006, 5:33 pm EST

I think he should invite Jon Pareles, the moron from the New York Times who wrote that horrible review on the Nov 20th City Center Concert; (which I loved). Reviews like that one may keep Bob from coming back to NYC or Manhattan. Pareles just shut up next time and do not write anything!!

Tony in Oz | 11/30/2006, 4:33 am EST

Bob should ask Ricky whether he ever got confused between the real him & the role he played in The Office or Extras.

Rocco | 11/30/2006, 8:21 am EST

How bout another elusive guy–George Bush? If anyone could figure out what’s happening in his head, it would have to be Dylan. (”..it’s jest my foolish pride..”

Micah | 11/30/2006, 6:34 pm EST

’cause even the president of the united states sometimes has to stand naked…

zeppyfish | 12/1/2006, 10:22 pm EST

If you’ve ever actually listened to Theme Time Radio, you realize that Gervais’ “interview” (like those already done by Charlie Sheen, Keb Mo, Billy Vera and many others) will consist of a short audio clip of the celebrity commenting on either one of the musical artists played on the show or on the subject of that week’s show. These are fun little snippets, rarely more than 30 seconds long, but nothing like an interview or a cover version of a Dylan song. Dylan doesn’t play his own music on his radio show.
