Exclusive: Fall Out Boy Album Deets

11/16/06, 10:51 am EST

Fall Out Boy are rolling out teensy snippets of information regarding their forthcoming album in a blanket marketing scheme so comprehensive, you’d think Martha Stweart was their manager. They leaked the album’s title, Infinity On High, to MTV News. They promised AbsolutePunk.net an exclusive leak of one of their songs, “Carpal Tunnel of Love” (though we found it here). And they are scheduled to debut their single, “It Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race” in a live performance for the American Music Awards on November 21st . But our Brian Hiatt was the only one who got to sit down and listen to six — count ‘em SIX — tracks at his leisure, thus allowing them to permeate his being. The full report is in our new issue, out on stands Friday, but you can read the highlights after the jump.

  • Lyricist/bassist Pete Wentz’s diary-like lyric style branches out from teen angst on the epic “Law & Order,” an unexpected return to the band’s roots in the politicized Chicago hardcore scene: The lyrics tell the story of Fred Hampton Jr., an African-American activist who was imprisoned for eight years on what many believed to be trumped-up charges.
  • Fall Out Boy chose the working title “Thriller” for the first song on their new album. (At press time all song titles were still subject to change.) “We were listening to stuff like Guns n’ Roses, the Beatles and Thriller,” says singer-guitarist Patrick Stump. “It’s not that I’m trying to make something that sells that many records — I just wanted to make it really good.” “Thriller” begins with Metallica-style chugging guitars before breaking into a chorus in the vein of “Sugar, We’re Going Down.” The track is self-referential, touching on the band’s Best New Artist Grammy loss – Pete Wentz calls it the “most narcissistic song on the album.” The chorus, “Fix me in forty-five,” is a nod to the length of a therapy session.
  • As promised, the album’s first single, “It Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” is a big departure from the band’s previous work: Verses are driven by a thumping dance beat that sounds like nothing in FOB’s catalog, complete with a sampled kick drum. The chorus shifts into a more typical punk-rock double time, and the song ends with a choir’s worth of voices singing the insistent, Gary Glitter-style hook. The lyrics, which include the line “Bandwagon’s gone, please find another,” express Wentz’s frustration at being king of the ever-growing emo scene. “There may be other songs on the record that would be bigger radio hits, but this one had the right message,” says Wentz, adding that the song-closing sing-along was inspired by Justin Timberlake’s “Señorita.”
  • Other sonic departures include the horn-and-piano-powered “Truth Hurts Worse,” and the Babyface-produced ” Thanks for the Memories,” which features the group sleekest vocal harmonies and most exotic arrangements to date. Not to mention some odd instrument choices. “I never thought I’d get a euphonium onto a Fall Out Boy record,” says Stump.

Patrick Stump and Pete | 1/2/2008, 12:07 am EST

You guys, you have to calm down.
This article was not written for some teenagers to debate how good we are or not, i know, it’s your opinion, but you gotta understand, everyone has a different opinion, and you have to respect that. Sure, i differ from a lotta people but i try to celebrate differences, cos God knows how fucking boring this planet would be if everybody listened to the same music.
Anyway, moral is, love us or not, we’re still here, so you gotta just deal man, give our fans a break. Let them decide for themselves. None of you guys have ever even met, so be nice. :)
Please keep the trash talk (about eachother as well as us) to a minimum, we’ll be watching ;)

Melissa | 11/11/2007, 9:28 pm EST

Okay, instead of wasting your time slagging off other bands, maybe you should get a more fullfilling life?!

Fall out boy and Panic! at the disco aren`t the same, they`re good friends and sometimes work together, that`s all.
I just wanna say leave them to live and make their music themselves, I wonder if you don´t like FOB, Panic or whichever you think, so…why are you here? >>>don`t waste your time

HI

None of yo Business | 2/11/2007, 2:59 pm EST

Look for those whole support FOB they can have an opinion, so can you guys that don’t but why go start trouble with those that do?! think what you think but you should just leave eachother alone and DON’T LASH OUT at people that say they do/don’t like fob. Just a band they are, to me a great band but like it’s been said before they so far haven’t even made a knick in comparing to the Beatles. this is music, not the revolutionary war, it’s not like winning an online fight will get you a medal or a country, it’s just a bunch of imature things that don’t need to be said. i myself am in love with their music. they aren’t a total strech from anything else i’ve ever heard but they din’t sound like other a lot of other thing i’ve heard. not all their lyrics are top of the line but some of them are really clever. some of their actual music isn’t the best but some is and that’s what i like. AND F.Y.I ANYBODY CAN COME ON HERE AND SAY THEIR NAME IS PETE WENTZ OR PATRICK STUMPH!! DDDDDDDDDDDDDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU UUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!1

Christopher | 2/11/2007, 2:10 pm EST

i love u too…

Christopher | 2/9/2007, 6:34 pm EST

ehh

That response actually makes me feel better.

And if you’re wondering, I do love the album.

:] | 2/7/2007, 4:11 pm EST

stop being an ass Christopher. If you don’t like it go somewhere else.

best album ever!!!! :D

Christopher | 2/5/2007, 8:51 pm EST

This is really annoying me. Why does anyone give a shit? I’m only commenting because I found this immaturity unbearable. Sure, the Pete Wentz vs. Patrick Stump comments are pretty comical, but people need to realize, that no one cares. I won’t say how I feel about Fall Out Boy, because I know that either the emo extremists will whine about it or the closed-minded butt-rockers will get incredibly angry.

Thank you.

hailee | 2/5/2007, 4:26 pm EST

this album is the shit

David94 | 2/4/2007, 4:50 pm EST

If you don’t like a band, don’t waste your time on it. Go support a band you do like… they deserve it more. And, for haters and lovers, no matter how much you spit your opinion back forth between each other, you are not going to change each other’s minds. Agree to disagree, and be done.

random chick | 1/25/2007, 9:14 pm EST

i luv fob even though they are crap

Pete Wentz | 1/24/2007, 6:34 pm EST

annoyed as hell | 1/24/2007, 4:24 pm EST

everyone just shut the hell up. you people are acting like little moron 10 year olds fighting over a band and their album that isn’t even released yet. all you metalheads shut up about bashing FOB, metal sucks anyway. and all of you fall out boy fans stop retaliating to what those idiot metal people have to say. let them talk their crap cuz at the end of the day, all that matters is that you listen to what you like and let everyone else listen to what they like.

P.S. the beatles are the greatest and most influential band of all time. FOB, while a great band, can not compare to them, and this is from a FOB fan.

FallOutBoyRocks!!'94 | 1/24/2007, 4:17 pm EST

Fall Out Boy ROCKS!! Whatever you fucking retards try to tell us… I’ve heard the album, and it’s fucking brilliant!! So wait ’til it gets out in the stores, cause you will really shit in your pants when you hear such great songs as Carpal Tunnel of Love”, “The Take’s Over, The Break’s Over”, “I’m Like A Lawyer With The Way I’m Always Trying To Get You Off”… Well, i could’ve written every track, but i got something better to do than discuss with you losers whether FOB sucks or not! (Which is kinda obvious.)

So long, cocksuckers!

Patrick Stump | 1/21/2007, 1:12 pm EST

OMG!!! PETE!!! PISS IN MY MOUTH!!!

j sizzle | 1/20/2007, 4:24 am EST

ok so i just wanted to say that panic! at the disco and fall out boy are fucking identical. i’ve never seen or heard two bands so exactly the same. first of all, the singers sound the same. second of all, the chords are all the same. the same four over and over that is. and talk about CROSS DRESSERS. wow! i ran into pete wentz at a shopping mall once and he was basically molesting 12 year old girls at abercrombie and fitch. the emo boys at hot topic were really jealous. and as far as his lyrics go…any twit with half a brain could write “…try to forget how it feels inside.” shit, get a fucking grip kids. they are no different than nsync or the backstreet boys. their just another mindless and produced boy band designed to ease pre teen girls into puberty. seriously, the bandwagons full. please catch another.

anonymous | 1/8/2007, 7:09 pm EST

Congratulations Fall Out Boy you have made it through another year of gossip, criticism, and yet ready to do it all over again! I live for your music and not a band comes to mind with lyrics as meaningful as yours!

Ok, if some of you guys hate fall out boy so much… why are you even looking at this page? i don’t go around looking for every pussycat doll page and post, “Oh my god, they suck so bad.” just back off and pay attention to what you like.

falloutboyrockss | 1/6/2007, 6:47 am EST

You guys suck!
Fall Out Boy rocks!

Danielle | 1/2/2007, 5:17 pm EST

I really love how people are bashing Fall Out Boy. If you don’t like them do not waste your time and write on something about Fall Out Boy. Obviously they do have talent if they are where they are. Stop being immature and act your fucking age and don’t write something about a band you don’t like.

Serenity | 12/29/2006, 8:14 pm EST

Y’know what, people? This is so stupid and immature for reasonable, ‘full well functioning’ adults (if you’re even over 18, which I doubt) to argue about whether or not a band sucks. (And a piece of advice? People will take you more seriously if you can SPELL.)

I like Fall Out Boy. I’m not a fanatic. I liked them BEFORE they were on MTV and Take This To Your Grave was the first album of theirs I owned. In my opinion, they were ruined when they got on MTV. (But what were they thinking, having ‘Sugar, We’re Going Down’ as a lead single?! Gah!)

I don’t try to force my viewpoint on other people, and neither should you. Just knock it off already. Please. For all our sakes.

Mark The Shark | 12/29/2006, 12:11 am EST

“Oh FOB sucks hard core… and yeah its a trend… like all of this 80 dance rock revival”

How the hell would you consider FOB’s music to be dance rock? I don’t dance to the music, I listen to it, and enjoy the poetry in their music. If you actually pay attention to the lyrics, they are genius. Just because you have “hair on your face and on your balls” doesn’t mean you know everything about music. I do too, and I love FOB, douche.

charlie | 12/28/2006, 1:45 am EST

Seriously, some of you guys need to grow up. Fall Out Boy are good, just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean you can blam it.
Panic! and Fall Out Boy have a different sound, everyone can tell that.

If you don’t like it, back off.
And where the hell did the refences to the Beatles come from? They are their own sound

Bry | 12/20/2006, 1:23 am EST

why do u guys fight over whether a band is good or not? its really personal opinion. i can tell you from first hand experience i listen to almost everything classic rock/rap/anything else and i like fall out boy. if a song is good, a song is good. what does it matter what genre u categorize it in to to determine whether its good or not?

Unicorn | 12/18/2006, 9:28 pm EST

Uhh… Sorry, but whenever I stumble upon people fighting over the internet… It just cracks me up… I don’t see why you guys who are bashing Fall Out Boy waste your time saying how much you hate them… and if someone has a different opinion than you, you freak out and then argue with the person until you “win”…
(Which isn’t really possible with fighting on the internet…) and plus that’s not going to stop them from making music because a lot of people like their music, including me. And why would you read an interview about a band you don’t even like??

jonny342 | 12/15/2006, 9:48 pm EST

jonny717

Chan-C | 12/15/2006, 6:30 pm EST

UMMMM, You really shouldn’t post if you don’t like them and most of the people who say they don’t like FAll OUT BOY have only heard Sugar We’re Going Down, and Dance Dance which aren’t even close to the greatness of Fall Out Boy. They aren’t as teeneypop as the singles make them sound. Not to bash them myself, but they could’ve picked better singles but I love those boys more than life, I’d die for them. I sleep on Patrick Stump’s vocal chords and my heart beats to Peter Wentz’s screamo. They are the therepists in my speaker. The chemists who found the formula to make my heart swell and burst. No matter what you say horrible about them, I won’t believe a word…

good stuff | 12/15/2006, 4:55 am EST

i dont care if fall out boy dosent change their chords
as long as they produce music that i enjoy listening to i wouldnt care if they were goats
thats what music is about
producing music that people enjoy
you cant make everyone like your music
so if you dont like fall out boy
its your personal preference
so everyone just needs to chill out

roisin | 12/14/2006, 1:12 pm EST

this is retarded. if i saw an article on radiohead or my chemical romance, i wouldn’t look at it twice, despite me being interested in all genres of music. why click on a article about a band you hate?
oh man, get a life please.

tHe GiRl tHaTs A pUnX rOcKeR | 12/13/2006, 3:45 pm EST

i think all of guys are right. We do suck. We use the same chords and change the beat a bit. i’m hot and that’s why tons of chicks like us. i hate Fall Out Boy. we aren’t getting along like a good band should. our new album is good but is isn’t worth buying unless you like bad music.

u know what i totally agre with the quote: don’t hate the bend just because they’re popular.
u know what they write songs and help Panic!at the disco a lot, they’re friends with a lot of bands and i LOVE their music. so don’t u argue about who likes them or not. leave people listen what tehy want. nobody should judge others’ opinion. my opinion: Go fall out boy and Panic!at the disco this world loves u!

ellllaaa | 12/5/2006, 9:00 pm EST

to people who are bashing….whatever. My favorite musical genres are all over the place but I love this band. can’t wait for the new album.

taylor osborne | 11/29/2006, 1:24 pm EST

you guys are all retarded. fallout boy uses the same old chords and beats over and over again, while they may be experimenting with “new” sounds, it’s only because they saw Pete Wentz’s other favorite band, P!ATD doing alot better, alot faster than FOB. I’m not justifying FOB’s music, I’m just saying you all should really broaden your musical horizons. Another thing, don’t go on about how little of a life other people do or don’t have because they’re reading this article, maybe they’re just interested in what a respected music magazine has to say about a shitty band. woopdydoo.

Jennifer Rosales From Oregon | 11/29/2006, 10:26 am EST

Hey I just wanted to say Fall Out Boy Friggin Rock And You dont See many Mexicans Listen to Emo Rock Which I love!!
So Stop Dissing FOB You Fuckers!!!
Jenny From Oregon!

Viv | 11/28/2006, 9:59 am EST

The first time I heard “This ain’t a scene.”I laughed. Not because it was bad, but because the band is experimenting with new sounds and I love the pop-ish sound it has to it. Music is all about experimenting with new things. How do you think instruments came to be? Experimenting with different things. I think they’re awesome for trying new things and going out of the line of what people call “pop punk” music. FOB never categorized themselves as “punk” or anything like that. Don’t be dissing them when you don’t know facts and when you yourself can’t come up with 1 single musical idea. At least these people have the talent to write something and that millions, yes millions of people all over the world like. Music is all different. It’s like a language. We all have our differnet styles and different tastes. Would you judge a latino for listening to salsa, meregue, reggaeton or others? No because they grew up with that and because it’s part of them. They like it, leave them be. Same here, if someone loves FOB then it’s their choice. You can’t control others’lifestyles. Thtas why there’s different styles of music. Because we’re all different people. You can’t expect everyone to like the same shit you do.

- Viv

P.S. If you DO judge latinos cause of what I mentioned…shame on you.

I have some advice for you people that are bashing Fall Out Boy. SHUT THE HELL UP!!! Seriously, why would you read an ariticle on a band you don’t even like. Is your life THAT boring to do that and then to comment on it. Grow the fuck up. They’re making music that means something to them just like any other band out there who cares if it’s not your taste they are still amazing. I’ve been supporting this band for 3 years and I’ve gotten so much shit and I’ve not once stopped.

allison | 11/23/2006, 11:40 am EST

THEY ROCK OUT FUCKIGN LOUD | 11/22/2006, 8:21 pm EST

yea they just fuckign rock!

Selin | 11/22/2006, 6:40 pm EST

you people seem to be spending quite a lot of your free time bashing a band you dont care too much about.

if you dont like them, here’s an idea:
dont buy their record.

everyone has different taste in music. respect my taste, and i’ll respect yours. walk the fuck out of these comment boards and dont look back, because honestly, i’m leaving a comment standing up for a band i love, so that means you’re the loser. i have you coming back and replying to what i’ve stated.

you’re jealous. you feel that there are bands with more talent that deserve more fame than fall out boy, but they’re simply not getting it, and thats causing you to envy their fame. i say suck it up. you sound like a complete moron.

they may not be the best band in your opinion, but they’re obviously loved. they’re famous, and you need to just grow a set of balls and accept that. screw you if you think that they’re not good. nobody cares. oooh brian doesnt like fall out boy, i think i’m gunna stop liking them too now.

idiot.

my comment on the article: i cant wait until the 6th of february when the album comes out. i’m definitely buying it, i cant wait to hear the rest of the songs. as for “this aint a scene..”, i love that they’re trying new sounds. and i’m excited to hear jay-z and ryan ross in their songs. i love fall out boy because they have so much heart, and i’ll forever be a fan.

fALL OUT boy are amazing and anyone who has ever been to a show - particularly a small gig would agree

alex | 11/21/2006, 10:51 am EST

so, i’ve heard the two songs. (Carpal Tunnel and This Ain’t a Scene) they actually are pretty good. Carpal Tunnel is more like their old stuff, and This Ain’t a Scene is a new thing. It’s very similar to the remixes of Sugar and Dance Dance. I’m excited for the new album. maybe it’s not breathtaking or the best thing ever, but i’m thinking it will be good.

Miranda | 11/20/2006, 5:59 pm EST

I personally have had enough of the bashing Fall Out Boy thing.I love Fall Out Boy..they are great people who really dont care about what you haters think. They make music for their fans not for the haters and it’s always going to be that way.Fall Out Boy is an amazing band and personally i am VERY excited to hear what they have in store for us.All of you haters need to get a life.K?.K.

Alimaria | 11/20/2006, 1:58 pm EST

Ashlee | 11/19/2006, 12:03 am EST

Kay, to totally steal everyone else’s line, Stop the figgen dissing!
If they suck so hard, why did the site crash from message board overload? Trust me, that was crazy. Why did we go from 200 members online tops at the begining of the Teen Choice Awards, to 400 at LEAST after they thanked us boardies because we asked? Why did so many kids hop the band wagon a year and half ago and diss us longer term fans? Why did the help bring a bunch of other bands around? How did they get me into some of those wicked bands?
P.S. They don’t like to label themselves as Emo, Punk, or anything else. And if you like anything harder from Chicago, chances are they might be tied together. They’re tied to figgen Rise Against!
P.P.S. Gay Isn’t A Synonym For Shitty!

fall out boy owns. take this to your grave was genius.

sure they are changing the style a little…but.. mix up a bit. music is music. you shouldn’t bash them just because they are changing. bash them because their fans are very loyal & are with them til the end.

beth | 11/17/2006, 10:41 pm EST

how can you guys say panic! isnt original. they arent my fav band or anything but i admit that ive never heard a band similar to them. and fall out boy. when someone finds lyrics as catchy and as well thought out as peter wentz’s please do tell. and its fall out boy not fallout boy. teenies.

where have some of you been?

emo is over. you can all go home now.

Carla | 11/17/2006, 9:57 pm EST

God you guys need to get a life and stop bashing bands that you claim to hate, but you are making it obvious that you’re jealous of them because they’re successful and you’re not. GET OVER IT! they aren’t a trend that will be fading anytime soon, so STFU and deal with them because they are going to stick around for a while

Chrissy | 11/17/2006, 9:56 pm EST

I think the fact that the guys are branching out and trying new things and succeding [sp] like they have just shows how talented they really are. All the true fans already knew that though. THe 2 songs released to the public so far have just made my anticiaption for 2-6-07 enormous!

It's not up to u what they do | 11/17/2006, 7:15 pm EST

right so ive only heard ‘this aint a scene, its an arms race’ and i love the popish style to it. alot of people are saying its not like fallout boy, pft they can be whatever the hell they want. it gives a new way for you to look at them. i personally like it and cant stop litening to it (my parents are getting pissed). i cant wait to hear“Carpal Tunnel of Love”, coz im open to any music. and i thin kits great that they can be inspired by JT… ~

Brian | 11/17/2006, 6:31 pm EST

Let’s just get one thing straight that is really bothering me. This whole deal about trends is complete and utter bullshit. Please, the music indusrty has been all about trends since it’s beginning. And since we are all bringing up the Beatles lets just start there. The beatles were part of a trend of music, they were the most successful and notable and carried on. PEARL JAM? they aren’t part of a trend? I think they were a product of the grunge scene, but were one of the most successful ones. You want to come up with anymore of your god-like bands that were so original that they revolutionized music. Why are there genres of music, because music has to be classified. No music stands by itself. The emo scene is the same way. Fall Out boy is just the most successful, so maybe if they had a huge album that did well and then fell off the face of the earth, you know like those sandals in the eighties called jellies. No they haven’t, this is FOB’s what? 4th album now, so someone’s buying it. You idiots think after teh Beatles 4th album came out people were like OHH don’t worry this will blow over? PLUS for FOB to have put out four albums that means that they would have been making this music for about more than 5-6 years now. Trend? No! Your all pompous idiots with no intelligence. Whatever music you like is part of a trend or a scene whether you like it or not, so face it. You’re just as gay for listening to your music as we are for listening to ours. No band transcends music. The BEaltles were good musicans. What difference is it that they wrote catchy pop songs about girls in the 60’s and Fall Out Boy does it now? Shut your dumb mouths for one maybe two seconds and think about what you are really saying before you actually do it it may save you and the rest of the world the time and aggrevation of dealing with your sheer stupidity.

Anonymous | 11/17/2006, 2:40 pm EST

I listened to two of the new FOB songs and Carpel tunnel of love was really good but i just don’t like the new single it doesn’t sound like them. I will still buy the cd and hope for the best on the other songs. I love FOB! Why do poeple leave lame messages about how much they hate Fall out boy! If you think they suck why waste yout time? Emo Kid | 11/17/2006, 2:48 am EST

hey guyz panic at the disco is the gr8tsest band i eva I love them ,a album full of songs with pretty much only choruses is the best thing to happen to music since the beteels who totally are not just a boy band. lolol i love it.

On a serious note. Fall Out Boy is not shit. I’m not going to ask you to not bag them out or ask you to write a better song or any shit like that but they definetly don’t suck. Sure it’s not punk, but anyone who thinks they are needs to be kicked in the testies, it’s punk pop and at the moment it’s the best shit out there. (excluding some more unknown bands like Say Anything)

And to those comparing it to Panic? Holy f**k. You need to start using you’re friggin ears more often instead of posting retarded wastes of time on the rolling stones forum. Panic is pure and utter crap compared to FOB, purely picked up by a label to cash in on the current trends , with their ‘unique’ use of weird old ass instruments and their complete failure to write a song composed of more thena chorus and a verse repeated ad infinitum. Eww.

Steve-0 | 11/16/2006, 10:48 pm EST

I do like some indie music, but bands like mychemicalromance and falloutboy really suck. Lets hear some Modest Mouse or NMH, or evensomething from The Zutons on RS once in a while. I may have lost hope for this magazine. Think I’ll go see what spin has to say.

jim | 11/16/2006, 10:47 pm EST

must agree with beelay on the “Radiohead= bad ass, emo bands=weak” comments. if you emo kids would stop crying for five minutes n’ actually listen to something with TRUE emotional depth and sonic diversity then maybe you’ll c why emo sucks sooooo bad.

just because they didn’t revolutionize the world to you doesn’t mean they didn’t for someone else.It also shouldn’t matter what age you are, you like the music that you like.DO NOT DISS ON OTHER PEOPLE’S MUSIC!Fall Out Boy rocks and if you can’t handle it then that’s your problem.I’m expecting great stuff from this next album and if it isn’t great that’s ok,because it will be better than great.

myhaloburns | 11/16/2006, 9:32 pm EST

some of you posters need to get a life. I know the band personally. They are completly down to earth individuals. Most of you draw your conclusions on what the press has to say about them or what your personal opinions on what your favorite music is. Pete Wentz is not this pompus asshole everyone thinks he is. He is just this dude from chicago that plays bass in a band. Ask anyone who has been a fan for long enough and you will get the idea that these dudes are normal people. I used to be able to go hang out in public places with the dudes, now that has all changed, and their lives have been interuped but this new found fame.
As far as musicians, none of them claim to be ground breaking or even good. They write songs that THEY enjoy, and fans apply them to their lives.
Music is like religion, everyone has their own opinions. Leave it at that.

I sometime wish Dillinger Escape Plan would be the next big thing. That would make too much sense.

But then I would just be another asshole leaving stupid comments LIKE YOU.

SceneQueen | 11/16/2006, 6:06 pm EST

Fall Out Boy is an amazing band, one of my favourite bands. I’ll continue to support them. They are one of the few bands out there that have always interacted with their fans, unlike other bands that develop elitist personae. And for travis.watkins who said ” i bet they or one of them were searching myspace for a “unique” instrument to put on there next pice of shit so as soon as Rollingstone came calling they could name drop it…” give me a break. Unlike other bands, Fall Out Boy is trying to evolve their sound and a euphonium is a type of tuba hardly unique. This is their third album (they dont count EOWYG as an album), since they’ve passed the sophmore slump, i guess they’re not going anywhere for a while. They have a huge fan base that will make sure of it. The album will go platinum. It makes no sense that some of you would come on here to post how much you hate Fall Out Boy, you need to find something better to do with your time

ashley | 11/16/2006, 5:57 pm EST

fall out boy pwns

Lex | 11/16/2006, 5:55 pm EST

People who have nothing better to do than trash a band they don’t like via the internet have some serious issues, in my opinion. No one is forcing you to listen to this band. In fact, if you dislike this band so much, why are you bothering to read and comment on this article? It’s quite childish. They make the music for their fans, and their fans enjoy it; they don’t make music to try and impress people like you. I’ve been a local fan since 2003 and I’m quite proud of them for going so far, I’m not ashamed to admit that. It just boggles my mind to see people that I presume are older than me[20] take such a hate-filled stance against a band in such an immature way.

Anonymous | 11/16/2006, 5:52 pm EST

I can’t believe people are reading and commenting on an article about a band that they don’t even like.
Don’t bash a band or the people who like that band.

For all you people saying that they’re a new band and that they will be gone by next year:They’ve been around for a while, this isnt their first cd. When you have people like Jay-Z as your boss there is no way you’re going to become an artist that leaves as quickly as they appear.

Helena | 11/16/2006, 5:46 pm EST

Ah, I love to read comments about Fall Out Boy. Because people seem to despise them just because of their singles. It’s sad, really. If you have songs that are popular, then you suck. It doesn’t occur to anyone that it’s the other way around? No, because most of you are a bunch of musical snobs that could not in a million years ever imagine listening to a band that more than 100 people like. Too mainstream, they must be talentless.
Oh well. I’m really excited about the new album.

kyle | 11/16/2006, 5:45 pm EST

Personally I’ve been listening to fall out boy for 5 years. They’re by far one of the most amazing bands I have ever listened to in my life. I’m not one of those teenybopper MTV listeners, I’m getting my degree in music business so I have to know at least a little about music. They have the best live show I have ever seen, and are the most personal band I have ever met. Panic! was found out by Pete, and they are two totally different bands. They play two totally different styles of music and Fall Out Boy has been around much longer. Don’t hate on an amazing band just because they’re popular.

Anonymous | 11/16/2006, 4:48 pm EST

dunnermon | 11/16/2006, 4:44 pm EST

I agree with Harry Balls, Fall Out Boy and Panic At The Disco should team up for a fiery tour bus crash, and, yes, I read the article for that chance Rollingstone would trash their new stuff

Erin | 11/16/2006, 4:15 pm EST

It’s sad that some of the people posting comments are only focusing on things they don’t like about their music. Fob is my favorite band, and I can tell you for a fact that they really don’t give a shit about what you classify them as. They make music for themselves and their fans, not for people to pick it apart until there’s nothing left. All four of them are really talented guys, so maybe if you stopped looking at what you don’t like about them you might find something you do like.
Also, Panic! and Fob are two different bands, maybe if you got took the stick out of your ass you may relize it.
And please, if you have this much time to be picking apart a band and having a ‘comment war’ get a life.

ryan | 11/16/2006, 4:05 pm EST

fall out boy isn’t music its just a trend, a trend that will soon end. i don’t even understand how some of you can listen and see this as music. I’m a young teenager and i much prefere the grateful dead or the beatles to this shit, so-called music. i don’t even know anyone in my HIGH SCHOOl that listens to this stuff, and im not being sarcastic

Esquire | 11/16/2006, 3:51 pm EST

in response to the note to me. I’m not sure how old you are whomever posted that incredibly biting remark about facial hair. Firstly let me address the most cringe worthy aspect of my post was the comment about liking fall out boy, granted it’s not to a significant degree. As for most of the passage it was a quote note the quotation marks, something you may not have noticed. I have a master’s degree and am working on my doctorate. I’m four years away from 30, and don’t forsee ever going back on what I said.

Guns N Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” is now odds on to his records shops in 2007 after the band’s label admitted this week they were none the wiser to a November release schedule.

Axl Rose had recently revealed his intention to get the $15m, ten-year-old project onto the shelves before the end of the year, and a press release for the Chinese Democracy Tour at the beginning of October 2006 also stated that “there are only 13 Tuesdays left between now and the end of the year” - dropping a hint that the album would be released on a Tuesday between October 3rd and December 19th.

However, it looks near impossible that the album will be released in time for Christmas as the band’s label, Universal Records, claimed this week that they had yet to received any information regarding a release date. With a likely four to six week turnaround required from GNR’s management delivering the masterwork (not to mentioned publicity and promotion) it looks extremely unlikely the set will drop now until February, with January a traditional dead-zone for big new albums.
In other news, a new live DVD is in the pipeline for February.
Guns ‘N’ Roses - Live In Chicago” will be released on February 5th 2007 (we’re sure of that), and was recorded at Chicago’s Allstate Arena.

Tracks included on the set are Nightrain, Mr. Brownstone, Live And Let Die, Attitude, Its So Easy, Wild Horses, Patience, Double Talkin Jive, Civil War, Welcome To The Jungle, November Rain, You Could Be Mine, Godfather Theme and Coma.

Allie | 11/16/2006, 3:07 pm EST

first of all this is an album review, not a “let’s trash the band that wrote this music just we got nothing better to do” session, so just for future reference, a reply to another article like this should be more likely to include comments on the upcoming album work, not a bunch reasons totally inrealavent to the matter about why you hate this band so much. But now that I’ve stepped off my soapbox, I’m really excited to hear this new record. I’ve been a long-time Fall Out Boy fan, and as much as I enjoy their current music, I’m interested to see what they’re cooking up that’s new and different. It should be a real treat for listeners, old and new.

Mark | 11/16/2006, 2:39 pm EST

The Euphonium is far from unique Travis. I played one from 5th grade until senior year of high school. They are found in almost every Symphonic band.

Hasn’t crappy pop music about girls and dances and smooching been around since the 50’s? And here were are in good ol’ 06 acting like this is something new. Get over it, it’s gonna be here forever, if it isn’t Fall Out Boy, it’s gonna be some other band four years from now…get used to it.

spiralmc13 | 11/16/2006, 2:01 pm EST

falloutboy has a bald lead singer..hahahahha with no talent to match but to make annoying sounds with his voice…just because its “catchy” doesn’t mean its good….fine, they had a couple of hits…now excuse us but we need rock bands that push music foward or songs that have substance. hey falloutboy..want to see your future…look at THE USED….thats where u’ll be when your new “album” comes out..

Harry Balls | 11/16/2006, 1:55 pm EST

like i said every one is all about them but cant really say why… i appreciate what they did in there time but how the fuck is that relevant to me now…
Oh FOB sucks hard core… and yeah its a trend… like all of this 80 dance rock revival… and i am not saying i listen to it… i am saying they suck.
I , personally, read the review because i am addicted to music… reading about it , listening to it, talking about it… even bands that i know are shit… I’m a loser

All this adulation over FOB makes me bleed for Chinese Democracy to come out.

Brian | 11/16/2006, 12:47 pm EST

Lets just face it, this genre of music is not a ternd anymore. Trends last for short periods of time and then are gone forever. Music changes constantly. I know of this band that played melodic punk music a logn time ago…The Ramones. And this other band Green Day and Blink 182. So stop saying that this is going to just blow over and Fall Out Boy sucks. Until you can come up with a catchy melody and play what Fall Out Boy plays then shut up. And if you don’t like Fall Out Boy then you don’t have to listen and if you don’t like them but are still listening then you’re an idiot. If you don’t like music you don’t have to listen to it, welcome to the free country known to many as America. If you don’t like their lyrics because they are about girls then you may have issues in the girls department. If you don’t like the lyrics because they aren’t deep or political enough for you, then loosen up before you pop a blood vessel. Music is music; it’s what the artist wants to make. Fall Out boy isn’t out to try and impresss you people who hate them, they make music for their fans. The sooner you all get and understand this stuff the better off everyoene will be. One more thing, a question. If all these negative comments are up here and you people hate Fall Out Boy so much why the hell did you read their album review….? Thanks that is all I have to say. PS Fall Out Boy rocks!!! and I’m 20 years old and a full well functioning adult.

dunnermon | 11/16/2006, 12:31 pm EST

Fall Out Boy is brutal…
Whoever said their music was “revolutionary” needs to be shot multiple times, “Dance Dance” and “Sugar We’re Goin’ Down” are two of the worst songs I have ever heard

While I don’t doubt The Beatles talent, I doubt that your feel for them will be quite as -fervant- when you are old enough to grow facial hair.

I want you to copy what you wrote and put it in a time capsule. Then read it again on your 30th birthday. Your face will be red with embarassment. I promise you.

Hey people…give Fall Out Boy a break. At least wait and hear the new album yourself. I am a big fan myself and can’t wait to hear what they have to offer next, and no I’m not 14, I’m 23. I saw them live in May and and they were awesome, they have so much energy on stage. I think they’re more pop-punk than full on punk rock but If you are in any doubt as to where their roots lie I would recommend that you listen to their 1st album, Take This To Your Grave.

People listen to Beatles Album’s and The Beatles still sell album’s. They will continue to sell album’s on whatever format exists long after fall out boy is gone, and I like fall out boy. I’m just saying. and this quote from a much better site sums things up nicely “Anyone– be that press agents, labels, critics, fans, or even the casual listener– who ever says “sounds like the Beatles” should be strapped to a chair and force fed mugs of Mersey water and green apples until they die of bowel disaster. The Beatles have transcended music. Duh. The Beatles make rock music criticism futile. Any album in the Pitchfork archive cannot touch any Beatles album. Sorry. We could simply write, “It’s not as good as the Beatles” for all records. Do I even need to tell you not to spend money on Wolfie or Gomez?

Every day of my life I listen to the Beatles. To anyone who loves music, it is your religion. (Note: One can model either a polytheistic or monotheistic worship. You can worship Marvin Gaye and/or John Coltrane and/or Robert Johnson, etc., but the Beatles have to be a god.) Want a simple method for destroying any credibility you might hope to earn? Slam Sgt. Peppers and talk up Deathray. It’s that easy. Find something else with which to compare contemporary artists. The Music Machine, the Seeds, Badfinger, the Zombies, and even the Kinks are begging to be referenced. Let’s not compare a kid who wins a paper airplane contest to the Wright Brothers.”

“I never thought I’d get a euphonium onto a Fall Out Boy record,” says Stump.

HAHAHAHA!!!
this little fuck never wanted to do this… i bet they or one of them were searching myspace for a “unique” instrument to put on there next pice of shit so as soon as Rollingstone came calling they could name drop it… and a bunch of other little fucks would be impressed, but only on the inside, if they were to show it they would quit being trendy…

An excerpt from an article from a guy who heard 6 Fall Out Boy songs… Jeez, rock & roll needs a shot in the arm pronto.

Mike | 11/16/2006, 11:33 am EST

Anyone who is over 14 and or male that likes Fall Out Boy had some serious issues. No, they have the whole subscription. Fall Out Boy is not Punk. Unless the only qualification is poor musicianship. Then they might be.

travis.watkins002 @ YIM | 11/16/2006, 11:28 am EST

How did they revolutionize music? Every one is always saying this… How? Does any one ever listen to a Beatles album? Honestly?!?! No one listens to the Beatles any more they just listen when every one else claims they were the greatest thing ever and just go with it…

Brian | 11/16/2006, 11:28 am EST

I really wish Fall Out Boy would fall off the face of the earth. This band will sell millions of copies of a shite album like this, but Pearl Jam puts out a great album and it doesn’t sell 1/2 of what this will.
Nothing like writing a song about losing the “best new artist” category, what could be more important than that? Oh wait, we’re in a fucking war I forgot

John | 11/16/2006, 11:21 am EST

eh. I always think how the Beatles started out as a boy band and then revolutionized music, but I just can’t imagine these guys ever doing anything great. People love throwing an instrument with a weird name on an album, gives a little street cred, but looking at the song titles it just seems like its gonna be the same old stuff. Fall Out Boy will be gone in a couple years when this trend is over, we should be looking for someone who really is gonna do something and give their albums a boost on these blurbs.

travis.watkins002 @ YIM | 11/16/2006, 11:17 am EST

WOW! Fall Out Boy! Gosh Rollingstone 6 tracks?! Your the best corporate rock mag around! Come on its fall out boy for shits sake! This would have been great if they didn’t suck… Oh and Rollingstone why have you taken on a personality? when did it become cool/ trendy/ hip to refer to your self as if you are saying the article? or acceptable to include your entire staffs opinions in a shitty article… such as… here at Rollingstone we… we have always liked…
To read a article in this fashion is … FUCKING ANNOYING!!!!!

Oh, PS: quit congratulating yourself on pointless bullshit… Interview with SBC, info on FOB… they are the same band as panic
