Check Out The New Cover, Gasp at the Latest MJ-Related Disaster and More

Borat Rolling Stone cover

  • We keep telling everyone that Borat is on the new cover of Rolling Stone (on stands everywhere Friday) and that the cover feature includes an interview with Sacha Baron Cohen. And people are like “yeah, so, he’s been everywhere” and we’re like no, Sacha himself is talking to us, not as Borat, but about Borat (and other things). We no longer have to explain, you can just check out our excerpt here and go get yourself a copy of the issue, use the handy image above to identify it.
  • Michael Jackson’s super anticipated appearance at the World Music Awards last night apparently turned into a total disaster when the singer announced, at the last minute, that he wouldn’t be performing. Then, when he sang a few lines of We Are The World but didn’t finish the song, he was booed offstage. Oops?
  • Whitney Houston is fighting to stay sober, in the middle of a divorce, and now the rumor is that she may be facing foreclosure on her New Jersey mansion if she doesn’t come up with $1 million in mortgage payments and local taxes.
  • We really like what we’ve heard so far from Nick Cave’s side project Grinderman, so we’re psyched to hear the band’s self-titled debut will be released next March-ish on Mute.

More or less nothing seems important. I’ve just been letting everything happen without me recently. I can’t be bothered with anything recently, but such is life. My life’s been generally bland today. Not much on my mind these days, but eh.

I really enjoyed Borat. I thought it was a very funny movie. I know that it comes off a little edgy but its just supposed to be a funny movie. How come Jackass 2 didnt get sued for the last scene in their movie, where they just up as people from the middle East? They also didnt get criticized. In Borat everyone who was in the movie signed a lease saying they would be in the movie. I mean my whole life i have been told,” read what yousign, you could be signing your life away.” These people need to just sit back and laugh about it.

shifty | 11/20/2006, 5:50 pm EST

I must concur with a few posts here. Firstly, Nickleback is manufactured pop music for the masses. When you have big record company money behind you, you can make a hit record. While they may, indeed, have talent, it is far from evident in their recorded output. It all sounds the same to me. Speaking as a professional musician I must plead that everyone go see an indie band and buy a CD from them if you enjoyed the show. Stop letting the radio and record companies tell you what to like. You’re not cattle. Secondly, Cohen has brilliantly presented the underbelly of America to rave reviews, even if we don’t want to admit it.

assyriangirl | 11/20/2006, 2:20 am EST

Borat was one of the funniest movies I ever saw and the messages that he was sending were powerful. It was beyond what I thought it would be, Sacha Baron Cohen is a frickin’ genius!!!!

Jim from Iowa | 11/19/2006, 2:12 pm EST

How Cohen grilled the waiter was most revealing of his ongoing complete disregard for others. His shitting on the people of Kazakhstan (calling their lives “backwater”) is the exact ugliness he professes to be cashing in on — as he continues to con audiences with his racism, laughing all the way to the bank.

FINALLY there is an interview with Sacha Cohen himself. very interesing, can’t wait to go out and buy my copy!!!!

Butch Cassidy | 11/17/2006, 10:42 am EST

Tonbo - Sacha’s comments were a ‘cringeworthy grammatical faux-pas’. Dude, you need to get out more and pull the plunger out of your very tight a-nus.

Sacha Baron Cohen went to Cambridge, not Oxford.

Tonbo | 11/16/2006, 5:30 pm EST

I certainly hope that the printed version of the interview doesn’t include cringeworthy grammatical faux-pas such as “I’ve been in a bizarre situation, where a country has declared me as it’s number-one enemy,”.

And I highly doubt that an Oxford-educated Brit would come up with a patently American high-schoolish mangling construction such as “I wish I would have been there at the briefing that Bush got about who I am, who Borat is.”

“I wish I would have been there?” If he actually spoke those words, he certainly didn’t deserve to be at Oxford.

Wahwahweewo. Borat I want to make sexy time with you. I love you and would love to live in your cage. Will you marry me?

Guns N Roses’ “Chinese Democracy” is now odds on to his records shops in 2007 after the band’s label admitted this week they were none the wiser to a November release schedule.

Axl Rose had recently revealed his intention to get the $15m, ten-year-old project onto the shelves before the end of the year, and a press release for the Chinese Democracy Tour at the beginning of October 2006 also stated that “there are only 13 Tuesdays left between now and the end of the year” - dropping a hint that the album would be released on a Tuesday between October 3rd and December 19th.

However, it looks near impossible that the album will be released in time for Christmas as the band’s label, Universal Records, claimed this week that they had yet to received any information regarding a release date. With a likely four to six week turnaround required from GNR’s management delivering the masterwork (not to mentioned publicity and promotion) it looks extremely unlikely the set will drop now until February, with January a traditional dead-zone for big new albums.
In other news, a new live DVD is in the pipeline for February.
Guns ‘N’ Roses - Live In Chicago” will be released on February 5th 2007 (we’re sure of that), and was recorded at Chicago’s Allstate Arena.

Tracks included on the set are Nightrain, Mr. Brownstone, Live And Let Die, Attitude, Its So Easy, Wild Horses, Patience, Double Talkin Jive, Civil War, Welcome To The Jungle, November Rain, You Could Be Mine, Godfather Theme and Coma.

Nickelback??? Oh Lord. That’s more offensive than a Borat religious slur.

Gimme a break these mainstream awards shows, miss all the actual greatest artists going…People need to get outta this mainstream lifestyle and Experience something new. Go check out some of your local bands, support live music in your area….You’ll find most local, relativley unheard artists to be some of the best stuff there is. But dont take my word for it.
“Turn off, your radios”

Rollingstone, FUCKKKKK!!!!!
Cohen has given interviews as Cohen before! Quit billing it as first ever!
I think this is close to the 137th time in the last week i have read about you promoting how cool/ elite it is to have him on the cover and doing a interview… being on your cover use to mean something i am sure, but any more you have whored your cover out… now any halfassed singer with a nice ass is sure to get a spot… but i should say, Choen it the first ugly person i have seen on the cover in sometime.
