Playlist of the Day: Yummy Tuneage For Cold Nights

11/13/06, 8:00 am EST

Our brains know that Thanksgiving’s still a couple weeks off. But it’s getting dark at 4 p.m. and the temperature is hovering just above freezing, and dammit we want to eat mashed potatoes by the fireside! We’re sure there’s good science to back up our insatiable need to consume rib-sticky food . . . probably something to do with circadian rhythms and food scarcity and evolution. So pass the mac n’cheese and let’s get ready for a Fat and Happy songlist full of hearty comfort food references. Dig in.

  • “Potato Mash,” Ike & Tina Turner
  • “American Pie,” Don McLean
  • “Soup Is Good Food,” The Dead Kennedys
  • “Hominy Grits,” Dean Martin
  • “Pudding Time,” Primus
