i think his comedy is genius..
in a couple years well all be annoyed as shit with him but for now, hes gold.

Chaste | 11/13/2006, 10:04 am EST

Sacha is even better than the hype.

But I have a sad feeling that Borat will never make it to home video, or at least, arrive on video in a heavily edited form. I don’t care how iron-clad the appearance waivers were for that film, if the producers willfully mis-represented their intentions when filming ordinary Americans, most judges will side with the ordinary people.

I’m sure Fox has a disgressionary budget to pay these people off, but their faces might be obscured.

BobbyRcofc | 11/13/2006, 10:08 am EST

yes
it was one on the funniest movies i’ve ever seen, but will not stand up to repeated viewings, like “stripes” or “family vacation” because of the lack of plot and documentary style

zac_attack | 11/13/2006, 10:17 am EST

it was a great movie but im sure it pissed off alot of people, but he doesent care. booya kasha!!!

Mokamaker | 11/13/2006, 10:43 am EST

Y’know, I can undrstand the producers “willfully mis-represented their intentions when filming ordinary Americans,” as Chaste said. But when it’s funny, who cares?!? Reality TV is fixed, too, and we all know it, but that doesn’t make it less entertaining. KISS’ “Alive!” album was doctored up, with overdubs and audience tracks put in, but it’s still one of the best albums of all time. And if I’m going to laugh my ass off, I don’t care what it took to make that happen. Sacha Baron Cohen is the Andy Kauffman of the 21st century, and he’s going to be remembered for giving America a swift kick in the ass and letting our so-called “politically correct” way of life fester in the sun like the disgusting thing that it is. We deserve to be mocked, and Borat is just the man to do it; he make sexytime all over us.

SATAN | 11/13/2006, 10:49 am EST

KISS SUCKS ASSHOLE

matt | 11/13/2006, 11:05 am EST

Sacha is a breath of fresh air in the comedy world. His characters are brilliant

Johnny B | 11/13/2006, 11:15 am EST

Hes always been funny as Ali G and other characters, it was just a matter of time before he developed someone that would appeal to main stream America. If you haven’t already I would check out clips from his show and watch the other film he has released.

DGG | 11/13/2006, 11:20 am EST

You had to wait for the film to become a surprise hit to give him the time of day… Shame on you!

Ken Vail Jr. | 11/13/2006, 11:31 am EST

That is cool he’s doing an interview as himself….I love ‘da ali g show’, and the movie was a hoot-’borat’.

austin | 11/13/2006, 11:32 am EST

borat is wowwa-weewahh!

shemp | 11/13/2006, 11:35 am EST

ya know, nobody forced any of the interviewees to say wildly offensive things. Whether or not they knew what was going on doesn’t excuse their lack or common sense in front of the camera.

ford | 11/13/2006, 11:49 am EST

dude is awesome, fresh, funny and original… good charecters..

CAPacelli | 11/13/2006, 12:09 pm EST

i really really really need to see this movie

MagazinesAreOldSchool | 11/13/2006, 12:12 pm EST

Rolling Stone lies | 11/13/2006, 12:25 pm EST

DangerousDaveHimself | 11/13/2006, 2:03 pm EST

Those idiot college guys are ridiculous….They’re just embarrassed seeing themselves the way everyone else has seen them many time no doubt. Borat is an amzing character and they shoudl be proud to have been a part of the funnniest movie of all time. And to say the producers tricked them or whatever….I smell bullshit. I guarantee this was all on the up and up legalley. We’ll see by the outcome of the lawsuit though, i guess

Skeetch | 11/13/2006, 2:19 pm EST

Complete excerpt? Dude.

Borat | 11/13/2006, 2:20 pm EST

Mr.Cohen’s is Jew, no?
He like the rest of them and just try and steal my money. He wear his hair like me to hide his horns.
I nevere even meet him and he make movie film of me and my beloved Kazakhstan.
I wish him dead.
But if he give me money for my next movie film, is ok.
I would like to do sexy time in his wife back door.

pflo | 11/13/2006, 2:23 pm EST

SMASH!

“I didn’t do it!”

Dizzle | 11/13/2006, 2:46 pm EST

I agree with pFlo. This guy has been around for years and has been hilarious the whole time. Now that everyone in America is doing a Borat impression…NOW’s he’s Rolling Stone worthy…Bollocks!

Dude | 11/13/2006, 3:08 pm EST

I’m sure I’m not the first person to say this, but Cohen did an interview on the Daily Show out of character in promotion for the second season of Da Ali G Show.

DrJ | 11/13/2006, 3:18 pm EST

2nd cover in a row with a comedian (or comedians) on it. Normally, I might complain, but in 2006, it makes sense since right now comedy is way cooler than rock n’ roll. Think about it: can you name five artists in the current music world who are as cutting edge and good at what they do as Cohen, Stewart, Colbert, Chappelle and the creators of South Park?

complete excerpt?? | 11/13/2006, 3:33 pm EST

Another post remarked on this . . .BUT this cannot go unchecked.
Seriously, Rolling Stone, get it together.

Gen-X | 11/13/2006, 4:29 pm EST

To those whiny drunk ignorant “college students” who are complaining they were “duped”: go back to your beer bongs — we all know you really meant every racist, stupid thing you said.

Make it Romance Please! | 11/13/2006, 6:21 pm EST

That’s a beautiful photograph.

R. Pennypacker | 11/13/2006, 8:09 pm EST

the dignity at the heart of Borat is clearly evident in the above image.

jessica | 11/13/2006, 9:43 pm EST

besides his out-of-character apperances on the daily show and letterman, sacha has also been interviewed out of character on jimmy kimmel live and conan.

i think rolling stone meant that this is his first out of character interview since the movie opened, but…i don’t know.

Red State Ted | 11/13/2006, 11:58 pm EST

I think it’s disgusting that we have this foreigner making the number 1 movie in america… a muslim no less! First off, Mr. Sagdiyev is offensive. Second, he completely does not fit in in the first world and belong back in the third.

I did like how he hates jews and queers though.

juan | 11/14/2006, 12:48 am EST

Suck on that!! Acknowlede the guys orignality the LEAST! comedy genius he is. and if you dont agree, your dead inside.

Jennifer | 11/14/2006, 1:04 am EST

That movie was hysterical. If your offended by his characters than you need to go to college and get an education

Jennifer | 11/14/2006, 1:05 am EST

I can’t believe this asshole’s comment below me “Red State Ted.” Seriosuly dude… wow

Jack | 11/14/2006, 1:34 am EST

I think its disgusting that a whole country of people is now seen as jew-hating, stoneage fools because of Borat. I know many people will see through the disguise and realise its a piss take, but exactly the kind of Americans who are made fun of in the film will fall for the joke, and probably agree with many of the things Borat jokingly proposes. I think the Kazahkstani people shouldn’t be subjected to this kind of racist treatment. The film does expose many horrfyingly unbelievable facts about certain parts of American culture and the actual belief system of many Americans, but singling out a former Soviet state as the butt of many of his jokes means Sacha Baron Cohen is really gulity of many the racist traits shown by some Americans in his film. I think the fact that many people are saying that “the film isn’t really about making fun of kazahkstan, its about revealing bad parts of American culture” is a cop out. Call me a politically correct stickler, but i think that it is unhelpful for a whole country to be labelled misogynists and anti-semites on the back of a film that, quite frankly, is made by a man who has a history of of using racist stereotypes to attempt social commentary (Ali G anyone). I acknoledge the fact that Baron Cohen is actually exposing other peoples racist and misogynist beliefs , but it doesn’t mean his character are not offensive to people. In attempting to draw them out of their shell and reveal their true colours, Cohen stands accused of actually fuelling the fire. It’s unfortunate but true that many people will take opinions shown in Borat and run with them. I believe that the premise for Borat is counter-intuitive, that when Cohen actually wants to expose racist views, he actually encourages them with his characters. I wish it werent the case, and I wish Cohen had invented a country for Borat to come from, but sadly this is not the case. The Kazahkstani people shouldnt have to tolerate being ridiculed in front of the world, for the benefit of a comedian to expose some American’s beliefs. I believe that no one person should be above parody, but the line must be drawn when racism and cultural intolerance poses as satire.

J Johnson | 11/14/2006, 2:24 am EST

It really is not THAT funny–would have made a better 20 minute skit.
I found myself looking at my watch.
Also–a bit johnny one note–I wanted
to like it but I was bored by the end.

cmberns | 11/14/2006, 2:26 am EST

Red State Ted: “I think it’s disgusting that we have this foreigner making the number 1 movie in america… a muslim no less!”

1. he’s british, in terms of internationalism, that’s about as white bread as you can get in the world.

2. this film is being distributed by an AMERICAN production company

3. this would not be the first time a foreign film topped the american box office even if the film wasn’t backed by an american company

4. HE’S NOT MUSLIM YOU IDIOT…HE’S JEWISH HIMSELF. -glad you like all the jokes about jews and homos tho you retard.

YOUR THE EXACT TYPE OF PERSON HE’S MAKING FUN OF IN THIS MOVIE AND YOU DON’T EVEN GET IT!!!!!!!!!!

noname | 11/14/2006, 3:47 am EST

People should not take the film that serious. it’s a great time to spend while watching and laughing. We should laugh at Kazakhstan, Russia, America etc. when it’s Cohen making jokes and not some politician. And to get offended by the comediant is stupid. When Bush does something like that, or Putin – that’s the reason to get offended.

Kiro | 11/14/2006, 5:46 am EST

People that think this film has a racist objective are intellectually challenged.

Kate | 11/14/2006, 7:18 am EST

Borat is amazing. End of story. Anyone who thinks otherwise needs to relax and realize that the Americans are bringing it upon themselves. Most of them are so ignorant and think they are so awesome but then along comes Borat and brings out the HILARIOUS truth about how closed minded, and insecure they all really are. He just plays it up, he doesn’t create the stupidity. Stop taking things so seriously all you Borat haters. Just be thankful it’s not you in that movie making everyone look even worse.

PC, shut up | 11/14/2006, 9:43 am EST

Look, if he had invented a country, the agreements they signed wouldn’t be valid, and many fewer people would have fallen for “Jackistan” or something. The movie isn’t for the dumb people who will believe Kazakhstan is actually like that; he picked that country because most of us in America pay no attention to the 9th biggest country in the world. It was the perfect choice, and if people are stupid enough to be fooled.. well, that’s just his point, isn’t it?

nyyfan178 | 11/14/2006, 12:46 pm EST

cmberns: you don’t understand that red state ted is totally foolin’ yo ass. check it, its obvious that thats the exact kind of reaction that he was tryin to get outta someone..and it was YOU
ha

and jack, wtf this isn’t an essay contest.

Milk Wood | 11/14/2006, 1:56 pm EST

BORAT for PRESIDENT!

PB | 11/14/2006, 2:05 pm EST

In a word – Brilliant. I have not spent so many minutes in a movie laughing in a long time. There may be funnier moments in other films, but I don’t even know if some of the Monty Pythons had me consistently so near to wetting myself. The best part – the nerves the movie seeks to expose are the same ones that cause moronic frat boys to spout mysoginistic and racist blather in front of a Camera and then complain that they were tricked. Point of note – the higher up the social ladder Borat climbed, the more weakness of character he was able to find.

If you were offended by Borat, you have that right – but look deeper and you’ll see he’s exposing bigotry, prejudice and social stigmas – not spreading hate.

Anonymous | 11/14/2006, 2:13 pm EST

could have fun with this

Maya | 11/14/2006, 2:32 pm EST

Anonymous | 11/15/2006, 1:48 pm EST

i completely agree with you cmberns and he is the greatest freakin comedian alive and he really did expose the racism in america and for that I thank you!
niiiiice!

Tim | 11/15/2006, 4:38 pm EST

Funny, amazing movie. But I do not agree that he “exposed the crassness of America” or any shit like that. He’s the one who was crass, and 90% of the time his interviewees were polite. There were many times when the car salesman, driving instructor, this person and that could have and should have blown a gasket, but they didnt.

Milk Wood | 11/16/2006, 2:09 pm EST

You shouldn’t need BORAT to expose “the crassness of America” when the likes of Dave Chappelle are on the scene. But the sad fact is you do.

sexytimeexplosion | 11/16/2006, 5:08 pm EST

this kind of racist crap should not be tolerated. this borat guy that you losers watch should go to a WWII nazi interment camp and see how he feels being raped and having his balls cut off

sexytimeexplosion_hater | 11/20/2006, 9:04 pm EST

he’s a jew you idiot!

The God | 1/9/2007, 7:01 am EST

Your all wrong, Borat is Christ Returned you fools.
