- Elton John seems to have some kind of thing against God? “I think religion has always tried to turn hatred toward gay people,” John reportedly told the Observer. “From my point of view, I would ban religion completely. Organized religion doesn’t seem to work. It turns people into really hateful lemmings and it’s not really compassionate.”
- The Who will reportedly be announcing new 2007 tour dates at 5 pm today. Oh, it’s all happening.
- Atlantic-signed nineteen-year-old rapper Fat Al will reportedly have his dreams of stardom quashed by Bill Cosby. Cosby alleges the moniker Fat Al is too close to his cartoon creation’s name Fat Albert, and the kid has been forced to change his stage name to the decidedly less cool Al Fatz. “I’m just trying to come up and Bill Cosby was hating,” Fatz reportedly said.
- The Shins joke/promise that their new video for “Phantom Limb” will be what their site calls “a remake of “Hot For Teacher” for 2007.” The post explains: “James looks awesome in his big David Lee Roth wig. God I wish I wasn’t joking.” Nice. Right?
- Procol Harum’s ex-keyboardist Matthew Fisher is suing PC lyricist Keith Reid and singer Gary Brooker for a portion of the proceeds from the band’s hit “Whiter Shade of Pale,” claiming that he wrote the song’s organ part. Reid and Brooker point out that he wasn’t even in the band when the song was written.
- We really like the video for Albert Hammond Jr.’s first single “101.” It’s plaintive and pretty and weird. Good work.
- Bono showed up onstage in Sydney to perform an impromptu version of Kylie’s “Kids.” “Here kitty, kitty” he reportedly called to her, as she was dressed in a leopard costume. That creeps us out just a tad.
- Kanye West was reportedly pushed by a Sydney Opera House security guard. West was just seeing the sites in Sydney when he happened upon a crowd of people surrounding Borat, who was being photographed at the Opera House. As always, there’s some suggestion that the push was racially motivated, but West doesn’t seem to be making that claim. Yet.
