Joni Mitchell’s 389th Honor, K-Fed Ceases to Amuse Anyone But Hates Evian and More

11/10/06, 1:28 pm EST

Joni Mitchell

  • Joni Mitchell will be inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in January of next year. Blood Sweat and Tears frontman (and fellow Canadian) David Clayton-Thomas apparently confessed, when commenting on the upcoming induction, that he had “an enormous crush on Joni Mitchell.” “She was 18 years old and absolutely stunning and sang like an angel and wrote pure genius,” he reportedly gushed. Cute, no?
  • Normally we would take a tour rider like K-Fed’s and make shameless fun of it (aromatherapy candles, no Evian allowed) but his fundamental idiocy and the disastrous current circumstances in his life make it hard to go there.
  • Fall Out Boy have announced that the first single from their new record will be “It Ain’t A Scene, It’s An Arms Race,” out, apparently, sometime in December. Also, check out a Spencers Gifts or a Hot Topic near you for those Fall Out Boy dolls we’re all secretly coveting.
  • Remember when that Hong Kong promoter cancelled Mariah Carey’s appearance due to poor sales and what they called her “unreasonable last-minute demands?” Yeah, well now the diva is apparently suing the promoter for $1 million for expenses she allegedly incurred planning the trip.

I never thought i’d be saying this…EVER,but personally I feel bad for K-Fed.Him and Britney seemed to be somewhat lo-key and conservative(in terms of settling down and developing family life)despite that they publicly and regualrly live in the lap of luxury.I guess their individual rebellious,overly-glamorous lifestylyes were too much to keep together privately and publicly.

Zachra | 11/10/2006, 2:26 pm EST

That’s one expensive trip.

I wonder if she’s ever realized she has 1/100th the talent that Aretha has.

Zachra | 11/10/2006, 2:31 pm EST

Low-key?

How can you have a television show about your bumpkin nuptials and be considered low-key? They brought most of it on themselves.

Joni Mitchell wasn’t already in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame?

She’s among the best songwriters Canada has produced.

Who have the Hall of Fame been inducting all these years, the Barenaked Ladies?

randy b | 11/10/2006, 2:52 pm EST

Joni Mitchell is without a doubt Canada’s (if not the worlds) most prolific female singer songwriters. It’s about time the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame recognized her contribution to both music and the 60’s counter-culter at large.

Borat | 11/10/2006, 4:49 pm EST

If inducting Joni Mitchell into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame will get young people listing to her albums, like “Blue,” than it’s a great idea.

I met a Canadian Hall of Fame songwriter though I think it was in “Country Western”. Mr. Green was/is the primary dulse dealer on Grand Manan Island and had worked in western films in Hollywood years ago. When I met him he gave me a tape of the song, he had come in second for, in the “Write a Province anthem for New Brunswick” contest back in 1988 when I there, and some dulse, which is a red seaweed high in minerals you pick and dry as a condiment I’ve seen on a restaurant table in Montreal. I once went picking it near Indian Beach across from Campobello Island, in the summer of 1967, only sun that summer. I’m glad Joni Mitchell is finally being recognized, and I don’t have to try to make a living “on the tides”. Maybe it means they’ll take Lightfoot out of the elevators

Well Zachra, even though they created a teenybopper version of “Pamela & Tommy Lee Uncensored”(also known as “Britney & Kevin:Chaotic”),they DID try to lay low because of the rumors and speculation that was accustomed to them(before and during their marriage). It just so happens their own personal conflict with each other and ever-continuous controversy was overkill. Now it’s all said and done.

In other matters than that overrated crap(I’m starting to feel like a teenybopper myself),let’s speak on Joni Mitchell. One of the most serene, sophisticated songwriters of our time-Jewel(partially)channels her,Janet sampled her-so yeah give her her props. In closing,I bid farewell to two of the most prolific, provocative men that ever lived,Ed Bradley and Gerald LeVert.Peace.

charliemapleton | 11/13/2006, 1:34 pm EST

And plus, show your love for another prolific figure-REV.DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING!It’s about time,it’s about time!

Bob Plunkett | 1/31/2007, 9:15 am EST

Joni Mitchell’s induction in Canada songwriter Hall of Fame–with a following of folks like Herbie Hancock, Chaka Kahn, James Taylor highlights what she has done for the world. I liked Hancock’s comments the best—something to the effect that she portrays the best of the human spirit…an ever exploring brave artist…you can look up his exact words. I also find it funny that people who were totally moved by her in the 80’s like Sting and Stevie Nicks didn’t say that publicly in the cold, dark eighties when Mitchell could have used a fair word for what she has done. Her momentum and the truth coming out…may make Rolling Stone be fairer. Wenner did not like her and kept her out of the US rock and roll hall of fame for years–he likes his own rock friends better.

CHARLIEMAPLETON—I LIKED YOUR COMMENT ABOUT MARTIN LUTHER KING—I THINK THE CONTEXT TO MINE ABOUT MITCHELL WAS SOME FOLKS EVEN THO THEY SEEM TO BE WELL RATED HAVE BEEN UNDERRATED. I BELIEVE YOU ABOUT DR. KING AND WILL EXPLORE. MITCHELL WOULD LOVE THE JUXTAPOSTION OF OUR COMMENTS–NOT THAT SHE HAS DONE WHAT MARTIN LUTHER HAS—BUT SHE DID CHAMPION BLACKS LONG BEFORE IT WAS CHIC. SHE HELPED PIONEER WORLD MUSIC —AFRICAN AMERICAN INFLUENCE WAS VITAL TO HER ALBUMS STARTING IN MID SEVENTIES.
BUT BACK TO KING–I BET YOU ARE SOO RIGHT ABOUT A WORLD OF STUFF HE DID THAT DIDN’T GET RECOGNIZED. I DO KNOW HE DIED A HORRIBLE SHOOTING DEATH IN THE NAME OF BLACKS AND ALL OF US—AND FOR THAT YOU ARE DEAD RIGHT AND I STAND UPLIFTED FROM YOUR WISDOM.
