Sebastian Bach: Axl Rose’s Semi-Articulate Wingman

11/9/06, 12:40 pm EST

Axl RoseSebastian Bach should totally be Axl’s publicist. After GNR chose to cancel a show at Cumberland County Civic Center in Maine, their fans raged. Guns N’ Roses manager has had lots of very professional things to say about the drama (it had nothing to do with poor ticket sales; the band and their fans were certain to be mistreated by the venue; the fire marshalls attempted to enforce all kinds of arcane rules, etc.)

But after listening to former Skid Row frontman and current GNR tour mate Sebastian Bach respond to the drama on a Hartford, Connecticut, radio show we’re thinking of hiring him to represent us the next time we need something spun. He makes frequent use of the word “dude” and his argument eventually (de)volves into a rhetorical sermon on the virtues of Dimebag Darrell. Read his comments after the jump. [via Blabbermouth]
“Basically what happened is that Guns N’ Roses has a huge pyro show — anybody that’s seen the concert knows that to be the case. And when the fire marshall showed up, they were not into it — they were like, ‘This is too much.’ Also, they have these laws up there in Maine now where they literally told Guns N’ Roses and Papa Roach and us, they said any fans caught in the building smoking a cigarette will be immediately arrested, any bandmember on stage with a beer in his hand will be escorted out of the venue and taken into jail. And it’s like,’ Dude, it’s a rock concert. It’s a ROCK show.’ Basically, it felt like they didn’t want the thing to go down. And I read on Blabbermouth where it said 3,000 tickets were sold for the show, which was a 5,500 seater. And I’m like, dude, it’s Portland, Maine. After 15 years, the guy’s never played there — that’s not unexpected, like, to come back into town… I think that there’s a real peculiar thing about human nature where people really appreciate people only after they’re dead. It’s like Dimebag Darrell — we all agree that he’s the most legendary guitar player ever, right? A friend of mine. Nobody really mentions the fact that when he was playing the night he died, there was probably 150 people in front of him. He was at the Alrosa Villa, which is a complete dump. And then he died, and now it’s like, ‘Dimebag’s my hero. Oh, my God… He was more important to me than anything. I’m the ultimate…’ It’s like, ‘Where were you when Damageplan was touring?’ So here Axl’s like, ‘Oh, you only sold 3,000 tickets.’ That’s after 15 years. We’ve got a sold-out Madison Square Garden the day after tomorrow. So, for me, it’s like… Dimebag used to say, ‘Those are the highs and lows of rock and roll.’ So, for me, if Guns can’t do their whole show… It’s like Kiss wouldn’t show up without doing their whole show. If you’re coming into a venue with a concert and a production, then you wanna give the full show. But it wasn’t for tickets, because that [3,000 people in a 5,500 seater] would have looked pretty good, actually.”

there’s just no arguing with that logic.

Sanchez | 11/9/2006, 1:19 pm EST

Man, not to mention it was the next stop on Elvis Presleys tour schedule – He died Aug 16th/77 with scheduled stops in Maine on the 17th & 18th – As soon as *the King* saw Cumberland county civic center on his next show list – He ate as many pills as he could. No need to go to Maine, ever. No excuses needed.

Lobsters | 11/9/2006, 1:35 pm EST

Maine is the same thing as Massachusetts only smaller. Who the fuck needs a small Massachusetts?

Cliff Burton | 11/9/2006, 1:41 pm EST

Sebastien Bach is dead to me.

Sebastian Bach | 11/9/2006, 1:44 pm EST

they call us problem child, we spend our lifes on trial, we stand and we wont fall, we’re one and one with all, we write things on the wall… WE ARE THE YOUTH GONE WILD.

Phil | 11/9/2006, 1:49 pm EST

What a celebutard!

Dan | 11/9/2006, 2:36 pm EST

Celebutard…good word. I’ll have to remember that one. GnR are dead, Sebastian Bach is dead, I wish Axl Rose was too but being in Maine is about as close as you can get and still have a beating heart. wtf does Dimebag D have to do with anything concerning GnR? Still looking for that remaining brain cell eh Seb?

heavyhitter | 11/9/2006, 3:18 pm EST

Dan,
go back to celebreating Britney’s divorice and impeding comeback, you leotard wearing ninny.

Stinky Zeke | 11/9/2006, 3:33 pm EST

The bottom line is 3,000 GNR fans were stood up. Canceling shows over anything other than a musical compromise is an insult to the fans.

Nobody cares about the pyro. It’s the music, Axl.

jebeal | 11/9/2006, 3:37 pm EST

A lot of Maine-hating out there! Good to see! Sure, it’s fun and everything…but lean in real close and listen…(Portland is not real Maine…It’s closer to Boston than up state where there’s truly nothing…and I have no doubt you d-bags don’t care…That might ruin your fun comedy jokes!) OK, hey, MAINE SUCKS! GUNS ARE STILL COOL, I SWEAR! AXL FEDERLINE ROCKS! THE CORNROWS, THE ALBUM NOBODY CARES ABOUT, TELL ME THEY’RE NOT THE SAME PERSON! ROCK AND ROLL!!!!

Toby | 11/9/2006, 3:54 pm EST

It’s not about where you are from it’s about GnR’s total unprofessionalism. Who goes to a rock show exclusively for the pyro? Apprently they need alot of who ha to cover up the lack of musical talent. The fans have every right to be pissed.

Aaron D. | 11/9/2006, 4:01 pm EST

I’m sure what happened is that they were told to reduce/remove the pyro, and Axl threw one of his hissy fits and didn’t play the show? He has a history of crap like this because he’s a washed up prima donna.

Tyson | 11/9/2006, 4:21 pm EST

The fire marshalls in maine threatened to arrest fans if they lit a cig, in addition to arreseting any band members that brought a drink on stage. That, to me, is a potentially volatile situation that was rightly avioded. GNR is still relevant, as witnessed by their sell out show tomorrow at Madison Square Garden. Once the new album comes out, alot of the naysayers will shut the fuck up and realize that Axl, in spite of his flaws, is a musical genius.

anti-skeptic | 11/9/2006, 4:53 pm EST

I dont get the point of this article. If she is being ironic here I am not sure why. Axl Rose has been a performer for over 20 years and delivers nothing less than 100%. He has he integrity to hold out for 13 years despite knowing fully well that anything he puts out will be the biggest selling thing that year. S Bach was telling it like it is without any B.S. He may be a washed out hair metal duuude and maybe thats the joke here. I am not his biggest fan but he sounded reasonable. If I wanted to see a band that put on a show no matter how crappy it was I would go see Creed or something.

SimonSez | 11/9/2006, 5:00 pm EST

Wow! Judging from all this hatred, Chinese Democracy will surely sell millions of copies

Haven’t the nay sayers heard T.W.A.T.? Listen to it and then shut the @#$! up.

(Sanchez – Good one!)

heavyhitter | 11/9/2006, 5:09 pm EST

You fools..theres something called being a perfectionist. Lots of great actors and musicians take this to the nth degree. Why do you think laid back Slash & co. left GNR? Coz Axl wanted to make GNR perfect. And they just wanted to lay loose. Sometimes that translates into not doing a show even if one minor thing is off and not as per specified. Why didnt the organizers not take care of it? They would have liked the cash GNR brought in for sure, later….

All you jokers who sit on your ass and eat cookies and dont have a job and dont amount to anything….shut up.

verity | 11/9/2006, 5:30 pm EST

I heard it. It is awsome. So is Catcher in the Rye. I play them on my mp3, like everyday. Better is good, too. They sound new, whereas, Madagascar, the blues, IRS, sound kinda dated, like illussions era.

peace

Aaron D. | 11/9/2006, 5:35 pm EST

You know, I’d expect a cancellation if someone was sick or the venue was unsafe for whatever reason, but because they couldn’t have pyro? 3,000 fans get ripped off because Axl MUST have pyro? That’s beyond stupid, and just proves how much of a jackass Axl really is.

I love these half-baked assertions about how visionary Axl is and how his solo album is going to change the world. It’s just too funny.

tim | 11/9/2006, 5:40 pm EST

Laurens from Indonesia | 11/9/2006, 10:19 pm EST

Sebastian has gone the corporate way. He’s sucking up to his superior aka WAR. Nothing wrong with that. He’s just trying to get by like everybody else.

brunswick | 11/10/2006, 12:40 am EST

been waiting since 1988 to see gnr i mean the [the axl rose project]and what do i get? socks for christmas i bet the new album will be just like a birthday card with no money in it aother big fat disappointment axl rose you are sad

JD Miller | 11/10/2006, 2:59 am EST

Critics are just frothing at the mouth in anticipation of Axl’s next mess up. He hasn’t stormed off stage, and there haven’t been any riots, which is only making them more bloodthirsty for material to slam him with. At this point it doesn’t matter if Chinese Democracy is better than Appetite For Destruction. Every review will give it one star for not having contributions from musical legends like Steven Adler and Duff McKagan.

207 | 11/10/2006, 10:12 am EST

Maine, a small Massachusetts??

Um, no. There’s a reason we call them Massholes. And also a reason why we’re the only state to only border 1 other state – easier to keep jackasses like Axl Rose out in the future. Yeah, I had a ticket – but after seeing what he thinks of us…to hell with him. I’m glad he didn’t show up, because I’d much rather have my money back. Shame on me for believing even for a second that he was worthy of performing for us.

SATAN | 11/10/2006, 12:47 pm EST

AXL WAS BORN A FEMALE

ry11 | 11/10/2006, 2:12 pm EST

Fine, buy the shitty Velvet revolver album, wait for their next masterpiece (lol), suck Slash’s “I was once a great guitarist but I’m obsolete now” dick and go fuck yourself…or play on a highway!

Sane Mainer | 11/19/2006, 12:44 pm EST

It was the fire marshalls that drove Axl to cancel the show, but, it was not about pyrotechnics however. The fire marshall mentioned a “no drinking on stage” law on the books in Maine to GnR’s management, Axl’s reaction was to cancel the show, before he even arrived In Portland, leaving 6500 fans (not 300 as reported) out in the cold. Other performers still drink at Portland, Maine concerts, I saw Chad from Nickelback do it in September. Chad stepped behind a curtain to be “offstage” and take a swig of beer. Perhaps Chad even paid the petty $250 fine for drinking on stage. Axl could have maintained his 24/7 drunken state in Portland if he had a normal personality, but instead he flipped out as he usually does and cheated his fans, cost his bandmates and opening acts a bunch of money …. No respect for himself, his fans, his bandmates, his opening acts, I’m truly amazed that promoters, and fans, still take a chance on this train wreck of a human being in 2006. Skid Row??? Sebastian Bach has been flogging a dead horse for 10 years … Everyone knows that he and Axl are hardcore alcoholics, so of course Seb is defending his brother in arms.

WTF | 4/28/2007, 5:52 am EST

Hey man, I am not for the rock-star/god acting image that some musicians choose to display but there are always factors involved that the public does not know about. I remember when Pantera came to Shreveport (not far from their hometown and they had played the Hirsch Coloseum before)and the firemarshall would not let them play because they didn’t have bolted seats in the floor area. Pantera offered to BUY chairs to place there but they had to be a specific kind. Now Shreveport is in the bible belt and Pantera is a fucking RIGHTEOUS act that said shit the way it truly was so the CHRISTIANS (same people that have and will kill Christ) had a lot to do with the band not performing. In fact now the Hirsch now only has rodeos and monster truck pulls.. I guess Christ is a redneck in the South, who knows…. but that’s the problem with people they always think they know what’s best for other people and cause big fucking problems, then the media gets ahold of it and we all know that nothing makes print unless it is twisted to the EXTREME negative of the true subject.
