Remember when Madonna used to be a trailblazer? When she had the cultural watchdogs following her every move? Sadly, it seems that in her dotage, Madge had fallen back on adopting other folks’ trends: First she adopts an African baby à la Brangelina, and now, as dozens of musicians (including Dave Matthews and Tool’s Maynard James Keenan) have before her, she’s started producing wine. Selling for forty bucks a pop, each bottle is signed by the singer and her dad, Tony Ciccone (who’s helming the project). The five varieties will feature grapes from M-life’s home state of Michigan. Mmmmmmm! We’re guessing they’ll possess a rich bouquet of exhaust, rubber tires and dirty snow, with a hint of Kabbalah water.

Mariah Carey is the true queeen of pop. She has sold more records than Madonna & has a WAY better voice. Mariah’s been around less time & still surpassed her record & single accomplishments.

I just paid 40 dollars for a bottle of wine that tastes like sweaty vagina juice! damn you madonna!

Surprise this journalist has a job at Rolling Stone. Not a Madge fan, but accusing someone of adopting to “follow a trend” is pathetic, especially saying that Anjolina (kiss my brother) Angolie started the trend. Then, she brings out a story from two years ago..do research.
Melissa | 11/10/2006, 11:54 am EST
Madonna needs to stop trying to always get publicity. Her music has gone down hill since “Ray of Light”. She will do anything to stay relevent & young. She looks so pathetic.

Um, Branjolina were not the first couple to adopt a baby. If Madonna wanted to follow a “trend,” there would be eaiser ones to follow than taking a lifelong responsibility of raising a boy. This “writer,” who reports news from two years ago as if it were present, seems desperate.
Johan | 11/10/2006, 9:35 am EST
Um, I heard about this two years ago. Get a clue!
Eric | 11/10/2006, 9:31 am EST
LOL! It’s funny how Rolling Stone “spins” stories. This wine thing was from, like, a year ago. The fact that Rolling Stone writers go out of their way to do research on Madonna proves how important she still is. If she wasn’t, you wouldn’t be waiting column space on her.
arger. | 11/10/2006, 9:17 am EST
isn’t this old news? it’s just so funny that some people spend so much energy writing about how “over” she is and you are still taking time and space to discuss her. if she was “over,” we wouldn’t be here posting or reading this piece.
also: her father own a vineyard. it’s his work. it’s not like she just went with some anonymous company. this is something her father does and she’s collaborating with him. i think that makes it a little different that just one more business/product addition to her empire.
Herman | 11/10/2006, 7:12 am EST
Come on. She’s past her prime. She’s become a joke and a send-up of herself.
Diva | 11/9/2006, 11:39 pm EST
What’s wrong with being a “publicity-hungry whore”? We all like attention, don’t we? At least, Madonna has never been so attention-starved as to post homophobic slurs on the Internet. Oh, the irony!

“Her new gay-danco disco stuff is crap though”
Derek actually posted this in 1984, but due to his extremely slow dial-up connection we’re only seeing it now.
I wonder if he’s still alive?
Nate | 11/9/2006, 7:20 pm EST
She can do whatever she wants and really what we think about is is of no consequence. It could be piss in a bottle, but if you’re buying gifts for that Madonna fan on your list, it’s a great stocking stuffer.
charliemapleton | 11/9/2006, 5:20 pm EST
They look tempting. She should put out non-alcoholic flavors-the “Like A Virgin Lineup” perhaps?
Arwen | 11/9/2006, 5:18 pm EST
I hope i look like that @ 50!!
MadonnA | 11/9/2006, 5:01 pm EST
I love it. We will never stop talking about her, and why should we? She is by far the most amazing cultural phenomenon the world has ever seen. You can’t deny it and if you try your just a stupid. The proof is all over the place. The facts are fact. Madonna is the bomb. Word.

the wine that is
Ryan | 11/9/2006, 3:24 pm EST
BTW, her decision to enter the liquor market was not made recently as this posting has referenced; she entered into this market about a year ago. So Lauren, please research the material you present since Rolling Stone is paying you for you latent dicussion.
Ryan | 11/9/2006, 3:21 pm EST
Derek, keep you homophobic comments to yourself you prick. When has Madonn’s music never been gay-dance. Go to any gay club, and you will here any song made by her in the 80’s, 90’s, and today. You are incredibly retarded and your comment has no merit.
Chris | 11/9/2006, 3:09 pm EST
I hope she at least has good taste when it comes to making wine.
Sean | 11/9/2006, 3:02 pm EST
I will have you know (as a state native) that Michigan’s wines are produced in the more sparsely populated western areas of the states. Unfortunately, I am specifically a native of the Flint area, which is very much in the ‘exhaust, rubber tires and dirty snow’ region of the state.
Derek | 11/9/2006, 2:49 pm EST
Madonna has always been & always will be a publicity-hungry whore. She will do anything to stay in the spotlight. She’s pushing 50 now & she’ll be damned if she is put out to pasture. Don’t get me wrong, I loved all of Madonna’s old stuff. Her new gay-danco disco stuff is crap though. However, she will always be a legend.
