When we saw this album cover, reportedly the official version set to appear on Gwen’s new record, The Sweet Escape, we were filled with a sort of girly joy that we typically experience in relation to all things Gwen. However, we are the first to admit that our Gwen crush is a little extreme and that our perception of her as fucking awesome isn’t necessarily shared by anyone else old enough to drink. Is anyone else psyched about this record?

i loved her with no doubt. i hate how she ditched them though. catchy songs though, and if i’m gonna have a guilty pop pleasure she might as well be it.
RushFan | 11/3/2006, 1:12 pm EST
I’ll watch her videos…as long as I can mute the tv…
the speakers | 11/3/2006, 1:12 pm EST
but p.s. no i am in no way psyched.
Richard | 11/3/2006, 1:13 pm EST
Nice cover. I’ve always thought she was a babe, even IF she isn’t carrying much up top.
I’d be more excited if there was a new No Doubt record than this.
I liked her last one OK, but it wasn’t all that either.
Looking forward to the next (and probably last) ND record.
Mike27 | 11/3/2006, 1:16 pm EST
Yep…but then again im not a “hipster” who sits in my room listening to terrible “indie” bands like Neutral Milk Hotel while eating vegan food. I know – Im horrible
John Bradley | 11/3/2006, 1:18 pm EST
If being a 20-year old hipster who secretly listens to “Love, Angel, Music, Baby” everyday in their closet so their roommate doesn’t hear and all indie-credibility be lost to likes of voracious black-haired, girl-pants-wearing scenesters, then I don’t want to be right! I think Gwen works great next to some Tapes n Tapes and Wolf Parade!
Amen | 11/3/2006, 1:18 pm EST
Yeah Gwen’s pretty unique and all but she was much greater with No Doubt.
RushFan | 11/3/2006, 1:19 pm EST
Call me an idiot…what is “Neutral Milk Hotel?”
baba o riley | 11/3/2006, 1:25 pm EST
maybe i’m just bad at music, but who the hell cares?
oh and she’s wearing elvis sunglasses.
RushFan | 11/3/2006, 1:32 pm EST
I’m with you Baba…I don’t really care…guess I’m not “cool”
SATAN | 11/3/2006, 1:36 pm EST
RUSHFAN SHOULD WATCH HER VIDEO FOR “RICH GIRL” WHILE LISTENING TO “SUBDIVISIONS”.
I LOVE GWEN, BUT I AM PISSED AT HER FOR SPAWNING THAT PANTS-PEEING RIPOFF FERGIE.
Michael | 11/3/2006, 1:37 pm EST
LAAAAAAME! Who is she trying to be? Michelle Phifer in Scarface?? I liked her better when she wasn’t derivative…oh wait…..
Lawrence | 11/3/2006, 1:39 pm EST
I’m spanking to that cover right after I hit the “post” button.
Angel | 11/3/2006, 1:49 pm EST
Is that a serious question? What kind of ‘rock’ is Rolling Stone at this point, anyway? Jesus Christ, why am I on this website? You’re pathetic.
Mrs.Morrison | 11/3/2006, 1:50 pm EST
yes!
RushFan | 11/3/2006, 1:54 pm EST
Hey Satan, are you being a dick, or would I actually like it? Subdivisions is a great song!

Couldn’t care less. But then again I don’t like today’s “popular” music. I think its official, I’ve turned into my father for he hated Nirvana in 1994. Music today sucks. Check out The New Lows – there is a band.

I would say I am indifferent….another case of someone who wasn’t satisfied just being in a cool little band like no doubt….she is cute and all, but I really could care less.

No Doubt’s Tragic Kingdom was one of the first real CD’s I ever bought. I’m 22 now, and I’m pretty convinced that Gwen can do no wrong. So, no, you’re not the only ones above MTV target demo who like her! I really prefer her stuff with No Doubt, but Love Angel Music Baby was good for what it was.
I’m still waiting for another No Doubt album, but I’ll take what I can get!
Brian | 11/3/2006, 3:02 pm EST
Good lord…she makes we want to find a good old tree, a stool, and about 4 feet of rope tied into a nice noose at the end and see what I can come up with so I don’t have to listen to her bollacks music.

Ever since ‘Hey Baby’ and ‘Hollaback Girl’ started polluting the airwaves, and started inducing chronic ear bleeding sessions; I’ve lost respect for Gwen Stefani, and am not excited to hear what excrement she thought up next.
jacob | 11/3/2006, 3:24 pm EST
Gwen is a joke. That “wind it up” crap is just noises and bleeps with her talking over it…..and the yodeling? it’s not even a song….it’s just some sounds put together that vaguely resemble something rythmic. Whoever is “looking forward” to this album is an idiot, and should be ashamed of themselves. Only in America!
Anonymous | 11/3/2006, 3:28 pm EST
hmmm. nope not stoked. not at all.
Carlos Dominguez | 11/3/2006, 3:40 pm EST
Oooh the album cover. Who cares! Let’s focus on the fact the music on the first one sucked! And let’s hope that there is music on this one.
ATTN GWEN: STAY WITH NO DOUBT.
Hugh Jakauck | 11/3/2006, 3:44 pm EST
Gwen Stefani make me do sexy time with my hand. I don’t care about much music from hers. If me could be spanking her bare buttocks when she milk a goat, and we listening to Twisted Sisters at same time, I could be making mine dreams come to be wet.
Is good?
Jake | 11/3/2006, 3:44 pm EST
Neautral Milk Hotel is much better than Gwen could ever hope to be. Hollabacl Girl is the worst thing ever. I can’t even get an erection while thinking about Gwen anymore, so…no, I’m not excited for this.
Douchebag | 11/3/2006, 3:53 pm EST
No talent bimbo. End of story.

Garbage! Thats G-a-r-b-a-g-e for you gwen fans.
now offense to actual garbage.
Bob-O | 11/3/2006, 4:13 pm EST
Gwen Stefani’s music = who gives a shit? She has never looked any better than on that cover and, oooh, that is some plump top boob there.
youtube | 11/3/2006, 4:19 pm EST
gwen’s hot! i love her, and the song, and that she’s using Elvira from Scarface as inspiration for the cover and LAMB. bitch is fierce.
J.LoLover | 11/3/2006, 4:42 pm EST
Sexy, am so looking forward to it, gwen has never looked better, love ya gwen, you’re the best, waiting for your single “wind it up”.
what i love most about this girl is that being creative an inspirational!!!
Klaatu | 11/3/2006, 4:45 pm EST
Gwen Stefani is an anagram for “Gee I want fans.” Really.
Studmuffin | 11/3/2006, 4:54 pm EST
She definitely has porn star potential… However, only if she got a boob job and swallowed on film, would I fork over the $14 to hear this cd.
anonymous | 11/3/2006, 4:55 pm EST
Ewww. The thought of more music (can it really be called music?) like Hollaback girl makes me want to scream.
Matt K. | 11/3/2006, 5:05 pm EST
For those still wondering Neutral Milk Hotel is a psychedelic folk band (mostly of which is run by Jeff Magnum) who put out the album “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” in 1998; an album that is generally considered a classic from the 1990s.
I myself do not jerk-off all over it like some might but I can at least see the distinction between that and what ever you would classify Gwen’s music as. Yeah pop is great and has its moments but when and why did the distinction of being an actual musician or a consumable one take on the labels of “indie rock” and “mainstream music” respectively.
There there guys its ok to try off-the-wall shit in music sometimes even if it doesn’t stick.
Also that has to be one of the most insipid and uninspiring album covers I have ever seen, even by pop standards.
matt | 11/3/2006, 5:06 pm EST
Hella fucking ya i’m ready for more gwen. personally i’d like to have new material from no doubt than just Gwen but i’ll take my fix anyway i can get it
Mike27 | 11/3/2006, 5:23 pm EST
Neutral milk hotel is better than NOBODY!
and to answer your question RUSHFAN…
They’re a bad indie band. its good you dont know about them – keep it that way.
Patrick | 11/3/2006, 5:29 pm EST
im extremely excited for the new gwen album! she is always innovative and original in her ideas, and i love everything she does. She just doesn’t throw out some crap some with a good beat that someone else wrote, she has some type of inspiration or vision that she wants to achieve with her songs, image, and or her album concepts. She’s amazing and i can’t wait for this album, plus the new no doubt album after this!
Rumple Stilskin | 11/3/2006, 5:34 pm EST
I’d do anything to take a stroll through her pumpkin patch. She is definitely “Blumpkin-able”!
auramac | 11/3/2006, 6:05 pm EST
I’ll skip the music- but definitely looking forward to more pics and videos!
Ale | 11/4/2006, 12:14 am EST
Much style, no susbtance; no thanks. Also 6!! singles from her last album and she’s back already?! God!
Mandela | 11/4/2006, 1:15 am EST
wait i gotta admit it, i didnt think i would be able to say it, but Madonna looks hot on the cover of her new album.
Mandela | 11/4/2006, 1:16 am EST
i mean really she did that whole retro revisit the 80’s thing, on her, last outing not so long ago, and here she is again, looking young and airbrushed.
Aries73 | 11/4/2006, 1:38 am EST
I was going to take a swipe at the losers that listen only to “indie” music, but decided it would have been a waste of keystrokes. Most of them are posers that put on an anti-establishment facade (witness some of the writers on this site).
I only need to say this: Good artists/bands who pay their dues and grow as entertainers tend to rise to the top and appeal to many demographics. This seems to be a mortal sin among “indie” fans, who seem to believe that an artist isn’t “cool” if their music gets airplay anywhere beyond low-power FM stations.
I’m not saying this from some high horse, believe me. I had the same attitude toward the end of the 1990’s. I used to think that all artists on commercial radio were prefabricated sellouts sold by corporate America. Eventually, I realized that commercial radio, while not perfect by any stretch, is to music what MLB is to baseball. While some good artists get frozen out stateside, a lot broke through after varying lengths of time in the “minor leagues”. Conversely, copycat groups tended to be exposed for what they were and faded into obscurity where they belonged.
Instead of bashing artists who found success at the end of a long road, true supporters of independent bands/artists should make sure the object(s) of their fandom reach that same destination.
JD | 11/4/2006, 2:06 am EST
I already know I’m not going to buy it. She’s turned into a skank. That’s probably the reason there’s a parental advisory on it.
PjMacD | 11/4/2006, 2:23 am EST
‘under neath it all’ is a great song… this is an interesting album cover.. Actually makes me curious about hearing whats inside of it..
marnr67 | 11/4/2006, 2:45 am EST
yeah i get the no doubt fan’s anger towards gwen… and then i don’t. Yes she has shed her ska punk history, but …. she did that back in ‘96 with Return to Saturn (while she was in no doubt). and lets face it No Doubt was producing madonna-esque girly bubble gum pop songs in between those ska punk numbers.
and let’s not forget.
90% of ska is awful.
most of the time its shitty 12 piece cover bands with maybe one good song in an album of 22 songs.
And that one good song is a cover of Ah-Ha.
i’ll take her experimental shit shows (that time she sampled fiddler on the roof) over any of Reel Big Fish.
moderately excited for this album– More old school Madonna and New Order the happier I am.
razmik | 11/4/2006, 7:18 am EST
I like Gwen very much and I admire her work and her videos!
Her debut solo album “love.angel.music.baby” was great… And I hope that this one “the sweet escape” will be similar!
The cover looks interesting and I can’t wait to see the new video!!!
Go Gwen & Good Luck for this album!
Jimmy Jazz | 11/4/2006, 11:35 am EST
i guess no one on this earth is suprised how quickly she dropped those three guys from No Doubt once it was apparent her solo career could work…. didn’t debbie harry try that in the 80s?
groovingkid | 11/4/2006, 1:06 pm EST
I’m 33 and guilty of being excited about the new album. Sampling Lonely Goatheard from the Sound of Music was cool but I don’t think Wind It Up actually needed the yodeling to be a good song. I’d rather see a new No Doubt album.
charliemapleton | 11/4/2006, 1:09 pm EST
Funky,b-girl image with no apologies, just attitude-I’m feelin’ it.
Mike27 | 11/4/2006, 1:23 pm EST
Well said Aries73
Nate | 11/4/2006, 2:39 pm EST
hmm, my faith in humanity is squelched by reading the majority of posts here. People who think only sub-mainstream music is worthy isn’t interested in music at all. If music is disposable and fun, it doesn’t negate its merit.
Rod | 11/4/2006, 5:30 pm EST
Fuck Yea!.. I cant wait- THats my mommi right there- and to those who think that she “dropped” Those three guys from No Doubt– Sad– Okay- Tony Kanal only produced a few songs on this album as well.. and No Doubt will be back!… 2007 baby!
The Gardener | 11/4/2006, 6:10 pm EST
i dont care who you are. Im 44yrs old & all i want is to treat her like a melting popsicle till she’s all goo in my tummy.
Artemisian | 11/4/2006, 7:56 pm EST
Yeah … crap. I’m no indie-lover, but I’m intensely sick of Gwen Stefani and the oddly pretentious oddity she presents herself as. The music’s pretty much crap (gods, how I miss No Doubt) and the image provokes nothing from me but a raised eyebrow.
Not psyched. At all. Even a freaking little.
vr. | 11/4/2006, 8:32 pm EST
I am 23…Gwen can do no wrong in my book. I’ve been anticipating this album for months now, and the cover is only making me more fucking amped!
Jello | 11/4/2006, 10:03 pm EST
Gwen is a hottie hottie hottie and her music as well as no doubt’s music is friggin unreal
RockGod | 11/4/2006, 10:37 pm EST
SELL-OUT.
GwenX | 11/5/2006, 12:53 pm EST
I am dissipointed in how the new cover looks! *sob* *sob* I was hoping for it to be more artsy like her former one, but I’m totally sure her music ROCKS! *Yay*
Fimpa | 11/5/2006, 1:45 pm EST
Holly shit! I thought I didn’t care, but read every single comment ’till I came to this cool input box and started typing.
Christine | 11/5/2006, 1:49 pm EST
I agree with the majority who seem to favor No Doubt more than Gwen. Why is she selling out to 12 year old sluts? No Doubt, please come back – w/o Gwen.
Scott | 11/5/2006, 6:33 pm EST
Well, I personally love the album cover. I first I didn’t recognize her, lol. But that’s what’s great about Gwen: she’s always able to reinvent herself through her wicked style. And as far as the music, this album is going to be a mega-hit whether any of you listen to it or not. Sure, as much as I love “Wind It Up,” it is a bit out there. But I’ve heard samples of other songs that are potential chart-toppers, especially the title song “Sweet Escape.” And for all you discouraged No Doubt junkies, fear not! They ARE doing another album, as they have stated on multiple occasions. I’m sure it will drop about this time next year.
BlueLightTickets.com | 11/5/2006, 6:50 pm EST
Her music and looks are sexy, but I honestly don’t see how this cover gets the blood flowing.
The wigs and “street bling” look just makes it seem as if she doesn’t know who she is anymore.
Melanie | 11/5/2006, 8:00 pm EST
She is my female crush…Im not a lezbian but if I was I would want her…She is sleek, sophisticated and a musical genius. I am so psyched about this record I cant even describe. I screamed when I saw it would be out in like 29 days…AHHHH…
Amabel | 11/5/2006, 10:45 pm EST
I disagree with Klaatu. The very last thing Gwen is, is an anagram for “I want fans.” Really, if she is truly that, she would have stooped as low as Britney Spears and done some nasty, sexual controversial gimmicks just so she could get on the cover of some tabloids. But as the case is, she has never done anything which bad like filming a sex video, getting married and divorced on the same day, kissing someone the same sex and all those things other celebs like Courtney Love and others do just to get attention.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I don’t hate Britney Spears or Courtney Love or other celebs I’m talking about, the names of some which I will no longer mention. Honestly, I don’t. I don’t see them as bad persons just coz they do those but I’m just glad that Gwen doesn’t feel the need to engage in controversies just so people could talk about her. That’s my whole point. How many years has Gwen been in business? More than 10 years and not even once did you read about her in tabloids or magazines doing something slutty or controversial just to get attention from the media!!! Gwen has always been decent.
Now while I like No Doubt and enjoyed their album Tragic Kingdom, I don’t think she should go back to it. First, they’re too old for something like that. Second, Gwen has true star potential. She has the X-factor, the star quality. She’s better alone, now.
I am turning 26 in two months. I have been a fan of Gwen from 1997-2004. By the time 2005 came, my love for her has greatly waned but you know what? I rarely buy CDs from Tower Records but by the time this CD is officially released, I’d make sure to get this one.
Zachra | 11/6/2006, 12:26 pm EST
Ugh.
I hate this style of photography.
Double Ugh.
ac | 11/6/2006, 12:38 pm EST
People need to chill. Yeah, Gwen is doing solo work now, but it isn’t at all like she “ditched” No Doubt. Tony still produces and writes with Gwen, several of the other bandmembers are doing solo work, and it’s obvious that there’s absolutely no bad blood between any of them. They all wanted a break and they’re all taking advantage of it in their own way. Check your facts before you bitch.
People also seem to forget that Gwen and No Doubt used to be “indie.” They had been together as a band for something like 10 years before they had real commercial success. I don’t see Gwen as a sell-out, at all. If you listen to her music, most of it is strange- not exactly stuff that you’d hear on mainstream pop radio. L.A.M.B. had several singles and a couple of them did get major airplay, but most of the album was very experimental.
One of the advantages of being a major star like Gwen is the freedom to experiment with style and genre. She’s a major artist so she basically has the funding and support to do whatever she wants. And what she wants to do right now is make fun, “poppy,” experimental dance music.
I would understand the criticism if Gwen was trying to say that she’s still a ska-punk artist or that she’s still trying to create heartfelt, deep, and complex music (as No Doubt did on Return of Saturn). But she’s not saying that, at all.
She’s creatively experimenting and she deserves some credit for what she’s doing. Not every artist in her position would risk a commercial flop to put out something that was totally different than what they had done in the past. L.A.M.B. was a good album if you took it for what it was worth and didn’t try to over-analyze it and tear it apart.
Let the woman do her thing. She’s practically the Elvis or Madonna of our generation. She bends musical genres and constantly reinvents herself, but hasn’t got caught up in the frenzy that has become her life.
You have the right to not like her art, but please don’t deny the fact that Gwen Stefani is a true artist.
LuvinGwen | 11/6/2006, 11:07 pm EST
I have loved Gwen since I first set eyes on the “just a girl” video and felt released like i had been trapped in a box my whole life, lol. (couldn’t help myself) Gwen and No Doubt equal perfection to me. Even if I don’t agree or totally “feel” her recent music, I completely respect Gwen. If she is having fun and making music that she loves, that is all that should really matter!! And to whoever says that No Doubt should come back without her. . . it was her brother’s band in the first place, she’s got there. . . omg. . . because she can actually sing unlike most “poppy” bitches out there these days. Everyone in the band is doing their own thing at the moment. Just because they are all in No Doubt, does that mean that they are stuck with each other, to only do anything if it is all together?? Who the hell are any of you to judge?!?!?! She is still around, doing her thing, that has got to say something! And to all you Gwen/No Doubt lovers like me. . . . . . . ROCK ON!!!!!!
Kate | 11/6/2006, 11:54 pm EST
Huh. I’ve never been a Gwen Stefani fan at all really, but that’s a pretty sweet cover. If the crazy spy look carries over to the actual songs maybe I’ll buy it. But probably not.
Derek | 11/7/2006, 1:09 am EST
I think she rocks. She’s gorgeous, weird, and she tries unusual things through music and fashion. The album cover is a nod to the Michelle Pfiefer (sorry about the spelling) character in “Scarface”. Awesome character and cool reference. Check that movie out if you haven’t seen it. Love to Gwen!
Willy | 11/7/2006, 2:20 pm EST
Wow what amazing airbrushing on that photo- could she look any more fake? Oh- I forgot- it is Gwen Stefani- ALL STYLE NO SUBSTANCE.

i won’t get into the debate because it’s always one ego against the other and no one ever wins and everyone thinks their always right. but i’m excited for the new gwen stuff, always am. i’m always excited for all of the band members with all of their new stuff that they do besides no doubt. but i’m ultra stoaked on adrian and theSTART! because yeah, theSTART gotta love them.
HOTT COVER! GHETTO FAB AND AIRBRUSH LOVED. it’s off the hook.
Gwen is fabulous. nuff said. and there was no ditching of the band, let me just say that much.
